The Republicans didn’t have anything to do with writing the Prescription drug Medicare Plan! They just passed it! The Drug Companies wrote it to their advatage by not permitting the government to negotiate lower prices! The Republicans just guaranteed they receive maximum ptofit on their drug!

One of the measuring sticks of a civilized society is the extent to which it provides basic necessities (food, shelter, critical medical care) for those unable to provide for themselves or their families.

God help you if you get laid off from your job and thus lose your health benefits, and then discover that you or a family member has a life-threatening health condition.

Well if you are gonna die, you’d better do so quickly to bring an end to the surplus population ? Plus wouldn’t more deaths decrease the amount of carbon going into the atmosphere ?????

But note the typical Blunt response in the update – Blunt denies he meant abolising the programs as that would be a stretch, “even for a democrat”. It seems like reality is the dems are for increasing healthcare – but he still implies the dems are further away from healthcare than he is.

Among those persons who are blindsided by the health care crisis are the 50-60 year olds who are out of work as they are forced out of work by either downsizing, or company going out of business. At that age, they are likely to have a pre-existing condition — sometimes, not a condition at all, but were treated for something in the past that has cleared up.
These people are too young for Medicare and can only get COBRA (no one else will take them). COBRA is enormously expensive, so the unemployed 55 year old is out of work, unlikely to find work, can’t get insurance, and may end up uninsured. When he has to go to the ER for an urgent problem, we all pay for it.
The example I gave is only one scenario — there are countless others where people are simply left with a Hobson’s choice or no choice at all.
What is so hard to understand?
Why are repugniscum so hateful and resentful of their fellow man?

[cough cough] Have you priced private pay insurance rates? By the time you are 60, the premiums I have seen are around $1500 for an individual and almost $3000 for a family.

Please don’t take this as an attack on you and I don’t want to disagree with your point, I’m just trying to say the reality is actually worse than what you describe.

We pay for our Medicare coverage. Half of all the FICA taxes we pay goes towards Medicare. And they system is fairly well run. The only real problem is that Bush has starved the physicians on rates paid over the last 8 years.

Dennis Kucinich did a study that showed that if we put all Americans on Medicare and upped the rates paid to doctors and hospitals, we would still come out way ahead monetarily over what we are not paying for health insurance in this country that leaves out 47 million citizens.
