Earlier today, conservative pundit Pat Buchanan suggested that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s husband should murder his daughter’s ex-fiance, Levi Johnston, for saying Palin’s decision to resign came down to “money.” While appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Buchanan said:
BUCHANAN: “Well, first, with regard to Levi, I think First Dude up there in Alaska, Todd Palin, ought to take Levi down to the creek and hold his head underwater until the thrashing stops.“
Time’s Mark Halperin then quipped: “That’s a reality show, right there.” The macabre humor was dark enough that MSNBC felt the need to follow-up with a disclaimer from Mika Brzezinski: “Just to clarify Pat’s incredible statement about Levi: Morning Joe does not advocate any violence against Levi Johnston, nor anyone else related to the Palin story.” Watch it:
Johnston, the 19-year-old father of Palin’s grandson, said in an interview this morning on NBC’s Today Show that he probably wouldn’t vote for Palin if she ran for president. (HT: Media Matters)
Now will MSNBC stop having Pat Buchanan on their shows?
Racism, sexism, homophobia, and now advocating murder. What is it going to take, MSNBC?
July 13th, 2009 at 1:01 pmOf course Mika was snickering when she issued the disclaimer. Kind of a double negative.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:01 pmBuchanan is just showing us a sample of that compassionate conservatism.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:03 pmI heard that this morning
They all laughed it off as “that’s just Pat being Pat”
Where the hell is that “liberal media” the right wingers seem to know about?
They always complain about it, but they won’t tell us where it is!
All I can ever seem to find is right wing biased corporate main stream media and far right hate radio.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:03 pmTodd Palin and Levi Johnson are two peas in a pod, separated by a generation.
Pat Buchanan has never had any children, biological or adopted. Yet he styles himself as an ardent pro-family guy.

I shudder at the very idea of Pat having offspring.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:08 pmI stopped watching Morning Joe because of Pat Buchanan. He’s outrageously offensive to me.
And the weird way in which Mika stares at the camera creeps me out, too.
It’s highly irresponsible for someone to voice sentiments like that in light of the governmental report on right wing violence. I wouldn’t put it past someone to try to act against Levi Johnston because of his perceived “attacks” on Sarah Palin.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:08 pmA right-wing REpublican advocating murder? Hmm, it would seem to be their mondus operandi (sic) when they get into power.
O/T: In December 2000, five right-wing Supreme Court judges staged a fascist coup by stopping the vote counting in the Florida Presidential Election and handing the White House to Bush. Not a peep was heard out of GOP Senators about this bit of “judicial activism” …
July 13th, 2009 at 1:09 pm“Pat Buchanan has never had any children, biological or adopted.”
Maybe because his voice is higher than his sister Bay’s?

July 13th, 2009 at 1:11 pmLevi has been the gift that just keeps on giving. Sarah should have been nicer to him, right? As for Pat, advocating violence against him is just awful.

July 13th, 2009 at 1:13 pmNot surprised, and I wont be surprised when Mr. Buchanan gets his own show. But what does surprise me is, how come everytime we see the Palin’s the youngest daughter is holding the baby and not Mr. “first Dude? I have seen Mrs. Palin walking down airplane stairs with one hand on the rail and the baby in the other, and where is the “first” dude, usually walking or standing in the background like an idiot.
So not surprised Mr. Buchanan said this, and I wont be surprised when it happens, but what will surprise me is if someone at MSNBC remembers that it was Mr. Buchanan that suggested it.

So when is MSNBC actually going to fire this racist, murder advocating excuse for a human being anyway?
July 13th, 2009 at 1:14 pmI dropped that earlier in the thread downstairs – just incredible, isn’t it.
He knocks up her daughter (actually, more than 1 time) and is held up as a model young man that is getting his life together during the campaign – buchanan defended him then.
Now it is throw him under the bus and KILL HIM!

July 13th, 2009 at 1:47 pmBuchanan has committed a crime, that being inciting violence. Why isn’t he under arrest?
Does anyone have contact information for the appropriate people to contact to request that Buchanan be prosecuted for this crime? Buchanan poses a clear threat to the safety of at least Levi, and who knows who else.
Levi should sue Buchanan for all the damages that have been caused. Not just the damage to his reputation, but Buchanan is now legally responsible to pay for 24/7 armed security, armored vehicles, and a bomb resistant home.
Levi, life just handed you a silver platter, and it’s time to cash in baby! Gotta be worth at least a cool mil.

July 13th, 2009 at 1:54 pmI don’t want to see Buchanan tossed off MSNBC. He is necessary for people to see and hear how far out the radical right is from the mainstream. Every time he makes a gaffe he shows how little forethought he puts into his statements. The fact that MSNBC had to come back and retract the statement shows how far out Buchanan is. I want Buchanan, Limbaugh, Hannity, et al, on the air. They make easier targets for the Dems.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:54 pmNot his kid…
July 13th, 2009 at 1:54 pmpags2 – one perspective, but propaganda does work.
Remember, they don’t need a majority of voters they just need to:
1. Disenfrachise enough voters and strike hundreds of thousands of Americans from voter tolls.
2. Create the lie of the “highly energized base”
Elections can (and have been) stolen and propaganda the group you refer to plays a vital role – it enables the media to ignore the theft and endlessly chatter about that “highly energized base”.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:57 pm“To be honest, I always have that little neanderthalian urge to knock someone’s block off on the rare occasion my wife is publicly disparaged”
The only problem with your little bit of “insight” is that Palin isn’t Buchanan’s wife, and he’s the one who made the statement. I’m sure that Pat would like to do a little butt-bumpin’ with the Barracuda, but, Bay won’t let him.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:58 pmWhat I would like to see is Levi showing up and giving Patty-boy the opportunity to try and drown him. I’d pay to see it, and I’d bring popcorn.
In all honesty, I wouldn’t miss Levi all that much. Just kidding, TP!!!

Pat Buchanan. Christian. Republican. Vocal public advocate for premeditated 1st degree murder.
THIS is the hideous intelligence that I keep warning everyone about. This is what the GOP has become. Why?
Pat will have no shortage of cameras and microphones to defend his statements of criminal behavior. Neither will he lack for defenders from “his side of the isle”.
Need proof? Where was the outcry from his side of the isle when murder was committed in churches in the name of the politics from “his side of the isle?” Answer: there wasn’t any.
July 13th, 2009 at 2:40 pmZooey, You are absolutely right. It’s time to “retire” Pat Buchanan.
July 13th, 2009 at 2:46 pmComments like that are too often emanating from his mouth, and since he obviously can’t help himself, then he must not be allowed on television.
“Buchanan: Todd Palin should drown Levi Johnston.”
File that under the title: And where did the valet park my brain
Buchanan has been and always will be an idiot, bigot, and sexist. Had Buchanan been Democrat making that comment about Levi Johnston, he would have been tarred and feathered and proably investigated for making a threat. Buchanan’s mindset and mentality is still back in the Nixon era and still hasn’t reach the 21th century yet.
July 13th, 2009 at 2:58 pmIt’s not hard to imagine the outcry if someone like Olbermann had suggested that Palin drown Johnston.
July 13th, 2009 at 3:10 pmIt’s always OKIYAR,
Even as a joke, with the Republicans, it always comes down to death or destruction. It is all they know. Everyday someone in that party brings the need for destruction into every conversation. It does not matter what the subject is. Nasty language and a call for violence is there. What must it be like to see the world in such ugly terms. And to make the world a more hateful place.
July 13th, 2009 at 3:10 pmThats right..Pat…its perfectly okay to drown (kill) some one when you disagree with them….their “first” amendments don’t count if you disagree with them..you (and people who think like you) are the only ones who have rights to the first amendment….when would it be convenient for you to meet with a bunch of us (hateful, leftist) “progressives” and go fishing with us…(down by the creek…?)
July 13th, 2009 at 3:29 pmIs he serious?!!! The? morally righteous, “Catholic” Pat Buchanan, once a candidate for POTUS, advocates the murder of a teenage boy by the grandfather of the boy’s child with his daughter…not to mention that the suggested murderer is the husband of a former vice-presidential candidate. The Republicans must be so proud! And Mika says, “you’re so funny, Pat!” These people are shameless! And possibly criminal.

July 13th, 2009 at 5:57 pmI e-mailed Scarborough and asked him how low Buchanon has to go before HE gets embarrassed. MSNBC must have an appartment for Buchanon at 30 Rock. July 14th, 2009 at 1:35 amWhen is Kenneth the Page going to drown Buchannan?
July 14th, 2009 at 1:45 amAfter all, this is MSNBC where this type of comment is standard. People are just upset that it is not a liberal making the comments. For example, Ed Schultz recently said:
about that dirtbag Dick Cheney . . . Dick Cheney is, he is an enemy of the country. . . I just think the guy’s such a freakin’ loser. You know, Lord, take him to the promised land, will you? See, I don’t even wish the guy goes to hell, I just want to get him the hell out of here.
Or go back and look at all the hate and death wishes against Bush and others whose politics are not of their liking. Typical MSNBC with Schultz and Olbermann leading the pack.
And for those of you that have no clue whatsoever, just take a cheap shot at Palin. After all, it’s what the MSNBC people do when they can’t argue the politics or the facts.
And I see several of the clueless people have already left comments . . .
