Today, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele made an appearance in New Jersey to support GOP gubernatorial nominee Chris Christie. Noting that President Obama is going to be in the Garden State with incumbent governor Jon Corzine on Thursday, Steele launched into a criticism of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, asking those in the crowd how much stimulus money they’ve seen:
And where is the Governor on this? Does the governor like this bailout nonsense? Oh, I think he does. Does he like that stimulus check? How much of the stimulus check have you seen to create jobs in New Jersey?
According to Recovery.gov, New Jersey has been allocated $5,304,193,676 in recovery act money, which is already starting to work its way through the economy. The Newark Star Ledger reported that an “inordinate” amount of bids were made by construction companies seeking the $389 million in funding for roadway projects that the state has received, and work has begun on a $69 million project to upgrade I-95. A $6.7 million project to upgrade guardrails in Middlesex County has also been fastracked due to the stimulus. “We’ve just been shuffling out funds to do this work over a bunch of years,” Middlesex County Engineer John Reiser said.
What’s even more important is the fact that the election is still quite a long way off. By the time voters get to the voting booths in 2010, governors will have turned in the numbers to the GAO of exactly how many jobs have been created/saved and how much money has been spent. A good catch-22 question for the republican candidate – would he have rejected the stimulus funds?
July 13th, 2009 at 5:17 pmStupidity comes just as natural as the breeze to Michael “The Magic Negro” Steele.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:17 pmFacts? Why would the GOP use facts, when they think a lie would work better for them? Even when it doesn’t.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:18 pm“Facts” and “Steele” cancel each other out.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:20 pmSorry. I mis-pasted and posted a clipboard insert at #1. It should have read “The Magic Republican”
July 13th, 2009 at 5:20 pmYou da Man, Steele – You da man who don’t know shit.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:22 pmI wonder if Mikey ever listens to or watches himself after the fact and has the self-awareness to cringe.
Oh, who am I kidding?
PEACE
July 13th, 2009 at 5:23 pmThe GOP Governors are doing their part to make sure their States fail so they can blame it on Obama. Now most of the GOP Governors are not letting the Stimulus money go out as Sarah did in Alaska. When people say they don’t see improvement it’s because the States are not following the directions of the White House. Now few bothered to listen to Obama say it’s a plan with four legs. But with Rush Limbaugh in the lead the plan is to make sure Americans suffer and then say the Obama Administration did it. California has it’s own set of problems caused by the Terminator but the Stimulus money is working. Obama stopped the bleeding caused by Bush and now it’s to plan two. I do feel bad for the people of Governor Sanford’s State as he wont sign for the jobs and the people are told it’s the White House. But Americans believed Bush and Cheney lies for 8 years so I guess it still works.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:24 pmIs it possible to add a button in order to “Vote Down” just Michael Steele?
July 13th, 2009 at 5:25 pmSteele doesn’t just preach to the choir he hands out the songbooks, tunes the organ, sweeps the church and counts the money in the donation basket. Of course he then tells the true believers their donations were stolen by the “liberals” and redistibuted by the big bad government. What a joke.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:28 pmSteele and Palin seem to share a penchant for creative vacuity.
They just make stuff up out of thin air, with no rhyme or reason.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:37 pmRepublicans wiretap everybody. Republicans want to rule over everyone. Republicans snipe. Republican principles include assassination. Make no mistake. If we let bush and cheney go without prosecution we haven’t seen nothin’ yet!
July 13th, 2009 at 5:43 pmI agree, this is defenitely nonsense on the recovery act. Good someone makes it puplic. Is this stimulus money or will it go somewhere else?
July 13th, 2009 at 5:44 pmDoes anyone in the GOP even know what the word “FACT” actually means , anyway ?
Sure as shit doesn’t seem like it…………….
July 13th, 2009 at 5:45 pmMy questions is this: What gene in the DNA string
July 13th, 2009 at 5:48 pmmakes CONservatives SOOOOO Stupid?? The hardcore
30-40% of them are absolute Lemmings running off
the cliff! Did God forget to give the ability
to not to recognize Bu11$hit when it’s being dumped
on them?
Republicans stopped having use for facts a long time ago. They get in the way of a good talking point.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:49 pmAccording the the repiggies, a “fact” is what everyone believes.
Creationism is a fact. The superiority of the white race is a fact.
The success of reparative therapy for gays is a fact.
The sinfulness of poor people is a fact.
The virtue of wealthy people is a fact.

With the new voting system here (Up/Down) shouldn’t we have a Bottom Rated beside the Top Rated selection at the top of this blog page?
I have no problem with my comments showing up in the Bottom Rated when (not if) that happens…
July 13th, 2009 at 6:07 pmMichael Steele is a man on his way to “JAIL”, and he knows that. The FBI has been “INVESTIGATING”, this man for months..
July 13th, 2009 at 6:10 pmHere in Minnesota we have a “road construction season” in place of “summer”. Severe winters really take a toll on roads. Stimulus finds are being put to additional road projects.
Guess what? The local papers are looking for construction workers.
July 13th, 2009 at 6:31 pmHi the Great GOPsby
July 13th, 2009 at 6:38 pmPlease define strong republican leadership. I can get you back to zero if you do a nice job…
Some readers may wish to do some in-depth reading about how President Franklin Roosevelt (FDR) and the Democrats moved to end the Great (Republican) Depression back in the 1930s. I found an excellent resource in a book called Freedom From Fear by David M. Kennedy, published in 1999 by the Oxford University Press. I was particularly interested in the administration of the Works Projects Administration (WPA), since Senator Obama talked last summer about using some same sort of plans to deal with our present severe recession. Perhaps the second stimulus plan can include some direct federal hiring of the unemployed to rebuild the still devastated heart of New Orleans, for example.

While I do not doubt your claim Austin, I think you should provide a link to this story. It’s good form to require the wingnuts to link to their propaganda, so it’s good form for us to do it as rule of thumb.
I should like to know more about any criminal investigation aimed at Steele.
July 13th, 2009 at 7:02 pm#24 Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre,
I hope for the same.
However, it’s sad to say that unions in the north and racism in the south will stop that from happening.
July 13th, 2009 at 7:04 pmI don’t think a poster can “get back to zero”. As far as I can tell, each comment has it’s own karma rating.
I don’t think individual posters accumulate positive or negative karma associated with their account. I think it’s just a way to rate individual comments to give people a reason not to read comments with strong negative ratings.
July 13th, 2009 at 7:04 pmStampede88:
Well, it’s pretty simple. Building roads demands that people be employed to build them. I suppose it’s possible that the evil New Jersey legislature will only hire workers from outside the state but, such a claim would require documentation.
July 13th, 2009 at 7:09 pmTime seems to be running out the GreatGOPsby….
July 13th, 2009 at 7:21 pmIsn’t everything North of Tom’s River paved anyway…
@ Chris LeJeune – New Jersey’s governor race is for 2009, just like Virginia. The only two this year.
July 13th, 2009 at 7:23 pmSteele knows his audience is too stupid to question the Hive Mind.

Steele knows his audience is too stupid to question the Hive Mind.
Steele, and his audience, ARE the hive mind. Self-examination would make them disappear in a poof of logic.
July 13th, 2009 at 7:56 pmApe man says,”If we let bush and cheney go without prosecution we haven’t seen nothin’ yet!” Ape man, is that a threat or a promise? You have heard of the DHS report? Aren’t you afraid of being arrested for being an extremist, or do you have immunity? Lucky ape!!
Stampede88, now why bother reading the article for facts? That would be an inconvenient truth, now wouldn’t it? Gregor Samsa and MCMetal seem to agree. They both stopped having use for facts a long time ago. They (facts) get in the way of a good talking point. 21 austininc4 also doesn’t like being inconvenienced with facts. He is too busy sniffing out conspiracy theories. Both austin and the ape man suffer from paranoia. They believe that the Republicans want to take over their brains. Even evangenital agrees that they seem to share a penchant for creative vacuity. They just make stuff up out of thin air, with no rhyme or reason.
Dixie blood just doesn’t want us to know that she is a racist by quickly covering up her remark about Steele’s race. She claims it was a bad cut and paste job? Like Sotomayor, they both feel that the standards need to be lowered for African-Americans tp succeed. But Sonia chalks up her bloops to misspeaking not for plagiarizing!
July 13th, 2009 at 8:39 pmHippyLicker. You ignorant piece of filth. You are stupid. VASTLY stupid. Far too stupid to understand posts by intelligent posters like Samsa, McMetal and Dixie blood. You are a moron. Stupid beyond human comprehension. That fact you are too stupid to understand, well anything more complex than a mudpuddle doesnt mean those posters arent making good points and sense. You are just always going to be too stupid to understand them. Face it. You are a moron. You were born a moron, you will die a moron and you will be a moron every day between.

Its amazing, did you people even read the article? Steele asks if the people of New Jersey have seen any of the stimulus money, and then its reported that NJ gets 5.3 billion in money. Go to the links in the report, articles from the New Jersey papers, with every comment complaining about great roads but no jobs..
Go ahead with your talking points about how much money was given to the people, if they never see it, it doesnt count…
If you’d read the article, then I’m assuming you also read the NJ.com article they used as source they used that stated the money was preserving jobs in New Jersey. Hence, the people *are* seeing the money, so it *does* count.
While yes, there is still an issue of lack of jobs, the money given to the states for the stimulus package is at least not making the problem worse. As quoted in the NJ.com article, the stimulus *is* at least preserving jobs, even if it is not yet able to provide an overabundance of them. NJ’s unemployment rate would be much worse off without the money the US Government is giving them.
