McConnell declines to offer support for Ensign’s re-election campaign.

ensign-mcconnell-webSen. John Ensign (R-NV) told the Las Vegas Sun yesterday that, despite admitting an extramarital affair with a staffer and that his parents paid the woman and her family nearly $100,000 in hush money, he would not be resigning his seat and will be running for re-election in 2012. According to the Sun, Ensign said “his support is coming from his fellow senators as well as those ‘on both sides’ of Senate leadership.” However, it appears that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is not part of that group. Today during a press conference on Capitol Hill, he declined to offer his public support for Ensign:

QUESTION: Senator McConnell, Senator Ensign has said that he will remain in office (inaudible) reelection. Do you support him in (inaudible)?

MCCONNELL: Well, I think Senator Ensign will have to speak to those issues himself. And you can ask him about it.

Have a little sympathy It’s a tough time to be an out-of-work Senator. Just ask Norm Coleman.

  2. SP Biloxi says:

Well, well well… Mitch the b*tch won’t offer support to the sinful Ensign’s campign. Throwing his pal Ensign under the bus. With friends like McConnell, who needs enemies?

  3. krystalview says:

Typical evasive non-answer. How STUPID does Ensign think his constituents are? I can’t wait to see him get voted out of office!

  4. Fred says:

I’m thinking mitchy knows he may lose his seat too…..heh.

Do these people have no shame?

  7. Zooey says:

Ensign, when you’ve lost the chinless one, you need to think about your next career.

May I suggest driving one of those nifty port-a-potty sucker trucks?

  8. Pernell says:

Harry Reid will gladly campaign for him.

  9. Wiz says:

I guess someday we will witness the last Republican kicking the next to last Republican out of the party.

  10. rastaman says:

because if there’s anything that’s holy to closeted homosexual Repuglican, Mitch McConnell, it’s the sanctity of marriage…..just ask his beard

  11. Doom Siren says:

Why is anyone asking this chinless moron from a bassackwards state any frickin’ questions? He’s not about to buck the party line on anything, and certainly not for a “family values” candidate like Ensign.

  12. Buckie Boy says:

Ensign said “his support is coming from his fellow senators as well as those ‘on both sides’ of Senate leadership.”

Yeah, right…I’m sure when the Dems are giving him support they are snickering as they do…thinking, “Good luck with that fella.”

And of course the Republic Fascist Party are in full support, it’s what they do.

  13. Pachydiplax de St. Augustine says:

Maybe John should ask his father, formerly a casino owner, what the odds are that he’ll be reelected.

Poor John, the odds always favor the House, unfortunately he’s in the Senate!

Instead of Lady Luck being his lover he ended up with Miss Fortune! :)

Yeah …….The Dems sent him a congratulatory note that read :

“Thanks for the chance you have given us for your Senate seat , jackass”……….

  15. RantingTommy says:

would the last republican please remember to turn out the lights on your way out?

    your cooperation is appreciated

  16. marcella says:

Yep. I bet the Dems are saying “hey! go bang that chick again. We are totally with you…” Then snicker behind his back. Loser.

  17. Mr. Sonia Herecomestheangst says:

I’d like to see Ensign succeed.

In serving me pancakes and waffles from a buffet on the Las Vegas strip after a well deserved prison sentence.

Oh that would be juicy irony.

  18. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre says:

    Ensign, Ensign, No. 96000.

  19. Mr. Cobb says:

Family Values Ensign likes it doggie style.

  20. pags2 says:

Las Vegas is very heavily Democratic because there are a lot of service employees. Maybe the Dems can cross over in the primaries to vote for Ensign to set him up for defeat in the general election. The Dem candidate can talk about family values and watch Ensign squirm.

  21. Jim Wolf359 says:

    Page 2 says,
Is it an open primary? If it is, I’d be okay with that.

  22. pags2 says:

I am not sure about the primaries. But usually you have to declare for one party to get the primary ballot (at least in Illinois). But that does not mean you have to vote for the party in the general election.

  23. stormy says:

I know, too late. But….Dina Titus in 2012. She already took out Jon Porter. Just hope actually trys to help Dina.

  24. austininc4 says:

Well, I Se. Ensign better look over his shoulder for any ‘BUSES’ coming his way.

He may find himself ‘HOMELESS’, as well. They may throw him out of the ‘C-STREET CHURCH’.

  25. Jane E. Schneider says:

“They may throw him out of the ‘C-STREET CHURCH’.”

I’m gonna guess that McConnell doesn’t live there, otherwise he’d probably be more than happy to support Ensign.

  26. Leftside Annie says:

I suspect that at heart, Mitchie McChinless is just plain pig jealous.

  27. wisdomofwords says:

Well Mitch, lets just wait and see what Rush has to say about your not supporting a fellow repub in need. I also think the boys on C street will be giving you a call too.

  28. Virtual Pebble says:

Nice to know that Senator McConnell supports the Nixon Ploy; hang the toad out to dry, and leave him twisting, slowly, in the wind. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, either. Now if Senator Graham could be convinced to go forth and do likewise for Governor Sanford, we’d be makin’ some progress… small steps, but forward.

  29. Mike Hunt says:

My prediction for the next Repignofascist Party scandal will be the discovery of a love triangle involving Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell and former Senator Rick Santorum. They’ll be caught doing a three-way under the stands at the Kentucky Derby. More at 11.

  30. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Don’t be fooled by the Turtle from Kentucky’s lack of public support for the adulterer senator John Ensign. You know damn well these rethuglicans would support Adolph Hitler as a senator if he were a republican. I’m sure behind the scenes McConnell and the rest of the republican party are quietly supporting one of their own.

  31. Virtual Pebble says:

    31. Uncle Fester Lurks says

Yes, indeed, quietly supporting, while franticly searching for a really quick replacement who doesn’t appear to be a complete dolt and a adolescent with uncontrollable surges of happy time hormones…

  32. pags2 says:

McConnell isn’t going to say anything that might come back to him in his reelection. He will wait to see which way the wind blows and that is 3 years away.

  33. blood1 says:

The real question is: Will all his “senatorial” supporters be linked to him thru their affiliation with the C Street Family address?

The “little known” religious group may have deep pockets, but Ensign may have trouble hiding the origin of campaign donations. Now that the public knows about this group and at least some of the members, “follow the money” will be quite agressive when looking at his campaign contributions. I don’t think mom and dad can bail him out of this entire mess!
