Bush Department of Justice blacklisted applicants from LGBT, immigrant advocacy groups.

goodling.jpgThe Washington Blade reports that, during the Bush administration, “applicants for Justice Department internships and honors programs may have been rejected based on their membership in LGBT” and immigrant advocacy groups. Pro-immigrant groups reportedly made up 25 percent of the list. Some other blacklisted organizations:

The Blade recently learned that among the blacklisted groups was Immigration Equality, which focuses on LGBT-related immigration issues.

Also blacklisted was the immigration project for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis. […]

Rachel Tiven, Immigration Equality’s executive director, said in a statement that her organization was “proud to be the only national LGBT organization included in the Bush Justice Department’s list of dangerous organizations” and that “opponents of equality and justice are right to fear us.”

A 2008 report by the Justice Department concluded that former Bush loyalists at the DoJ broke the law by allowing politics to influence hiring decisions. The Justice Department’s screening process was headed by Monica Goodling, a graduate of Pat Robertson’s Regent University who acknowledged that she “crossed the line of the civil service rules.” Goodling blocked the hiring of someone she viewed as a “liberal,” and she frequently checked the backgrounds of candidates for their views on “abortion” and “homosexuality.”

The fact that these people committed such acts & seem like they are gonna get away with it is disturbing. It means that any other Admin can come along & harm future applicants in just the same way & not be penalized.Eric Holder ought to stop imitating Michale Mukasey & Alberto Gonzalez & show that he is somewhat competent. So far Holder is a major fail & ineffectual at best.Holder still has Bush US Attorney Hires in place.Go figure.

OMFG! I flip back to TP and there is the face of Satan! Again!

Faiz, you should at least post a warning when you put something like this up near the dinner hour…

    PEACE

  5. spencers mom says:

Could we at least get a “vote down” button under future pics of loyal Bushies?

    Thanks.

    PEACE

Monica Goodling is what we’ll get if the repiggies ever return to power.

She is a dominionist evangelical nutcase who wants an evangelical theocracy in this nation.

She would have no problem carrying out internment orders or worse of a right-wing coup d’etat.

  7. Megaloptera McWars says:

    What a beautiful borgman.

  8. Lefty Liberal says:

Since there was deliberate discrimination in hiring practices, how about we have an affirmative action program set up to give preference to the groups that have been disenfranchised, and reduce the number of “conservatives”?

Seems fair given the blatant discrimination involved.

  9. Bobwurst says:

I hope this revelation isn’t covered by her congressional immunity…

  10. pags2 says:

This just more evidence of the lawlessness of the Bush administration. They had no respect for the Constitution and the rule of law. I am very happy I did not vote for Bush either time.

  11. Megaloptera McWars says:

No doubt, evangenital. We all have to keep at the ballot box and get out the vote, because every time republicans are voted out of office, they promise their own revenge coup against the american people once they’re back in. Attorney General Monica Goodling is not outside the realm of possibility in today’s GOP.

Thanks a lot! Now I will have nightmares for weeks!

There is a freeper several blocks away in my neighborhood, a 40-ish guy who is on Social Security disability, who spends every waking hour obsessed with these right-wing conspiracy plots. He is picked up a couple of times a week for a ride to an evangelical megachurch full of folks just like him.

We caught him trying to steal our Obama/Biden yard signs in October. He was not arrested, but a couple of neighbors have since obtained an injunction against him.

The cops picked him up for something else recently, and our neighborhood cop
told us that he admitted to having a list of names and addresses of the Obama
supporters “for when it goes down.” He has a history of mental illness, so he is in psychiatric custody right now.

For me, he is the face of the dominionist evangelical threat.

Don’t hesitate, vote that sucker DOWN!

Perhaps Monica could be Sarah’s running mate. They can PTL together.

  16. evangenital says:

Sarah Palin needs to produce the birth certificate of her “son” Trig. No one ever recalls seeing her pregnant with the last child.

In that respect, I am a birther, albeit of a different sort.

    Drill, Sarah, Drill.

    Produce that birth certificate now!

  17. pete says:

A little reminder that the DOJ other government jobs are still crawling with Bushbots. Monica is gone but there are hundreds more like her. Some of whom she hired. When we get impatient with the new administration and the Congressional Dems it would serve us well to recall that it’s still a full time job to weed out the die-hard morons Chimpy left to gum up the works.

  18. pastcaring says:

that picture of Monica Goodfornothing is enough to turn someone gay…sheesh…ugliness just seeps out of those people…

They are going to be a menace for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, there’s some evidence that we are going to see fewer hires by Faith and loyalty to dogma. At least we can hope our Representatives are taking that message to the floor and President Obama remembers that in his office.

  25. Rich H says:

    Scarry picture. Very very scarry.

How smart do you think her kids are?

  26. ElBruce says:

News item: Bush administration broke the law. No legal mechanism exists to prosecute them. Everybody twiddle your thumbs and forget about that “nobody’s above the law in a democracy” bullcrap you were raised on since age 3.

    Tim Vacuous,

    So?

  30. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I still say that Congress should go through formal impeachment proceedings against many of these Bush Administration officials, especially the two at the top (whichever order they were in). Impeach them, try them, convict them, and put a lifetime ban on any of them ever serving in an office of public trust under the United States again. And, best of all, an impeachment conviction can never be pardoned. I still think it is worth it to do this. Otherwise, as many have noted, these people WILL be back the next time the Republicans win the WH.

  31. SKdeAnt says:

Tim, it says “information and progressive views “, not “propaganda and right-wing whining”.
If you have anything factual and interesting to contribute, you probably won’t get voted off the island.
But that is asking an awful lot from a troll like you have proven yourself to be in the past.

  32. Mr. Sonia Herecomestheangst says:

So when McCain got his famous birthday cake from Bush, could he have asked to have had 25% taken out and replaced on the spot with better GOP pre-screened and approved birthday cake…just because?

  33. RUCeriousMaggot! says:

I hold Monica Goodhead’s degree from Liberty U in the same esteem that I have for Darlyy’s Oral Robert CIS rag.

Good for polishing urinals. Not much else.

  34. nofltwlt says:

Monica thought she was doing the Lord’s work; instead she will be going to hell for her actions.

  35. shoeless says:

I just wish someone would destroy her world by informing her that most of the homophobes she approved to be hired are closeted gays.

  36. WellstonesGhost says:

Monica Goodling is a Regents University Law Grad (note that she didn’t have ANY of her alma mater defending her) also the Oral Roberts U home of Michele Bachmann and Ted Haggard. Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs!

Monica, “all I ever wanted to do was serve this president” {{{sob}}} Goodling, married a Redstate co-founder recently.

  37. zedify says:

Don’t care what Monica did. I still wanna DO her! I mean, what a great RACK!

  38. zedify says:

*praying* please, Jesus, please, Jesus, please, Jesus. Please make Monica a porn star. Amen. *sign of the cross*
