Does this mean that I don't have to pay the 50% of my taxes that goes to the Pentagon because they are killing innocent people in Afghanistan and Iraq?

mgparrish, you have the straw man.

If you're railing against Joe Six-Pack or the church pot luck ladies being FORCED to help the less fortunate find work, housing, etc. so they can maybe kick into the economy... what about being forced to pay for $40,000 an HOUR jet fighters that aren't even used in the theaters of war? Or giant bomber aircraft used for... defense. How is crushing a foreign city/target DEFENSE? Or government cotnracts to KBR... that have caused soldiers to DIE by electrocution due to wiring neglect?

Is our nation strong if 50 million or 100 million are much worse off (and still working to the bone if they can find a job)? The Fiscal Conservatives, most of them only writing or opining for their large pay, want to drown the government or deny unemployment that they didn't even pay for. They don't support actual people so much as an idea, the American Dream. But they're in the 1950s and their "options" are working at McDonald's (covers gas and food, already full of workers now), etc.

Now progressive and this web site do NOT equal Democratic party, but if some of the 20% chaff were voted out and the 20% very good public servants were bolstered, it would be a good center-right party by world standards.

I mean think about they've done (by majority, mostly) since 1992. Public option or single payer? No. Welfare cuts? Yes. Keeping tuition from exploding? No. Financial services "modernization"? Yes. Bailout? Yes.

When there's a REAL national security concern, like WTC 1993 or Afghanistan after 9/11, or McVeigh, they prosecute or support military action.

It would be interesting to have a much more pacifist, share the wealth party (like what Christ says) but that is not yet a major, over 20% voting option. I know that the Republicans are trying to form an all orthodoxy party but most opponents aren't.

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” The First Amendment, however, does not provide a right to refuse to pay income taxes on religious or moral grounds, or because taxes are used to fund government programs opposed by the taxpayer.

Just another excuse to get the underwear of their poor, uneducated base in a wad, in the guise of a "Christian" issue, on behalf of the trump card that big business has become accustomed to---having control over the lives and deaths of employees and their children.

The GOP hates bargaining power.

"Once you're outta that vagina, it's every baby for himself!"

That's what I've been saying for years..They love the fetus, hate the child. Once they're breathing on their own, they're just a drain on the gubmint resources. Just ignore 'em and they'll eventually die off and that will be that. Fits great into the selfish, greedy conservative mantra, "I've got mine; you go get your own".

"They" you mean some straw figure? Most of those people you seem to believe are "they" love the fetus and love the child.

We teach our children to be responsible and learn to be strong individuals. If we gave them "candy" every time they cried we would not be good parents. We teach this so they can be self sufficient and not be dependent on others. I call this TOUGH LOVE. Caring is not teaching one to be a burden on others.

Hard to grasp concept?

Greed? It's always greed when it's someone else's hard earned money being given up for those who have made poor choices in their life. Charity is different from forced collectivism.

What you call greed we call tough love. What do you call a person that DEMANDS that others pay their way instead of trying to improve one's position in society through self improvement.

With the exception of the those that are truly disadvantaged due to physical and mental disabilities, the "have-nots" are really "will-nots". Nothing wrong with a short term public system of unemployment or other assistance, however, a Nanny State only breeds irresposibility, laziness and lame excuses.

Stop being "victims" by blaming others for YOUR own induced misery.

Hope and Change is looking at you everyday in the mirror.

bitblt says:

More injustice foisted on responsible taxpayers to pay for the actions of irresponsible men.

Single women with children compose the fastest growing poverty group in the U.S.......
Must be that "individual liberty" that we'll all paying for. Could we fix it so that irresponsible men pay for their own "individual liberty?"

I know what conservatives are against but I can't think of anything that they are for unless it means more money in their pocketbooks.

It's not more money "in" their pockets, it's less money **taken** from their pockets, earned fair and square. A subtle difference.

Liberal supporters don't mind unless it is someone else's money.

First, unless one is self-employed, it is nearly impossible to stop paying your taxes. An employer can get into trouble if they allow an employee to make frivolous changes to their W-4.

Second, if you think the IRS cares about your politics, think again. Saying that your not paying taxes to protest abortion just shows that you knew you had to file and willfully chose not to. That puts the failure to file in the criminal arena if the amount of tax owed is sufficiently large.

Third, even if not charged with a crime, you're still going to pay your taxes. You'll just do it the hard way instead of the legal way.

Bottom Line: Just pay your taxes and find another way to protest.

<em>bitblt says:

More injustice foisted on responsible taxpayers to pay for the actions of irresponsible men.

Single women with children compose the fastest growing poverty group in the U.S.......
Must be that "individual liberty" that we'll all paying for. Could we fix it so that irresponsible men pay for their own "individual liberty?"</em>

I know what conservatives are against but I can't think of anything that they are for unless it means more money in their pocketbooks.

The "I don't want to pay taxes for abortion because it violates my religion" crap is just that crap. I've heard it for years.

My response is, "Yeah, and I don't want to pay taxes to fund factory farming and foreign wars and bloated military hardware production, but when you live in a republic you get stuck with sometimes paying for things you don't approve of. Get over yourself."

<blockquote>Badger says:
Who wrote the software for the vote up/vote down feature???

Diebold???

My ups are being turned into downs???</blockquote>

I don't know if you're having the same problem as I'm having, but three or four times now I've hit the "Vote Down" button when I meant to hit the "Vote Up". Was the old "Recommend" button red or something? Sometimes it feels like it, but I don't recall clearly.
