Sessions claims Roberts and Alito answered questions more ‘crisply’ and with more ‘clarity’ than Sotomayor.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), who has been searching for excuses to vote against Judge Sonia Sotomayor, said on CNN today that Sotomayor’s testimony was “muddled” and lacked clarity. “I do think Roberts and Alito are far superior in terms of answering questions crisply and with clarity and having very little inconsistencies in what they said,” Sessions claimed. The Senate Democratic Leadership office quickly assembled a video reminding Sessions of how “crisply” Roberts and Alito dodged questions that they didn’t want to answer:

Ian Millhiser writes that Sessions clearly “doesn’t remember the Roberts and Alito hearings very well.”

What a friggin jerk! Any excuse, any comment and these Repugs will take it out of context because they can’t stand the fact a Hispanic woman is going to be a Supreme Court Justice. Oh, if she was a right-winger consevative like Alberto (Don’t have any intelligence) Gonzales, they would be fawning all oover her. But she is a Moderate Hispanic woman. These guys hate women in power.

  2. Marie says:

It’s more like Sessions has trouble understanding a complex answer coming from a Democrat.
It’s easier for his racist, little pea-brain, to absorb what a repugniscum is saying because he automatically knows he agrees with him, even as the repugniscum is evasive and off-topic. It doesn’t matter to little Beauregard; his small mind is already made up.

  3. raynman says:

Maybe Session’s can’t hear very well wearing the hood

the residents of alabama surely must be proud of their keebler elf senator everytime he makes a statement on a national news outlet. i know i would be.

  6. evangenital says:

Grand Wizard Sessions would rather offer Ms. Sotomayor a job cleaning his office.

  7. ralph the wonder locust says:

Excuse me, Senator Sessions, but the fact that Judge Sotomayor’s answers to your repetitive badgering didn’t register with your pre-programmed prejudices is not the same thing as “muddled”.

  8. Tired Of Fighting says:

I have finally figured it out, Mr. Sessions is testing the waters out there in DumbPhuckistan to see how well this plays to the “base”, and if all goes as he plans look out for him announcing a run at the Presidency.

It just never ends with these right-wing clowns, does it? After goose-stepping along with eight years of torture, treason and tyranny under the Bush gangster regime, the GOP doesn’t have anything to offer the American people except more lies, slimes, smears, distortions and obstructionism. Republican-run corporations have outsourced millions of American manufacturing jobs to China, India, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia and eleewhere in the last twelve years. As Republicans like to say, “That’s a real job killer.”

  10. pastcaring says:

Sessions is just pissed he never got to be a judge because he’s was a racist tool…sour grapes…and the Roberts & Alito confirmations were the most irritating, anger-inducing confirmations–other than Clarence Thomas’ that I’ve watched. The whole grandstanding crap with Alito’s wife’s tears was ridiculous.

    Sessions needs to retire….grrr

  11. spencers mom says:

Wow, what a surprise. Sessions, white male GNOP, prefers the tone of other white GNOP males.

They don’t call it The Old (White) Boys’ Club for nothing!

    PEACE

  12. P.D. says:

It has to be killing these guys that she will be confirmed. Good ole Pat Buchanan is telling Repugs to forget the Hispanic vote and attack. Yeah! Great advice Pat! Just go ahead and alienate the fastest growing demographic in the country.

  13. Bozo The Neoclown says:

    senator sessions,
we “get it”. sonia sotomayor could speak 15 different languages and be recognised by the pope as a saint and you’d still vote against her. now kindly stfu.

  14. evangenital says:

Grand Wizard Sessions’ life is a daily Civil War re-enactment.

  15. Helen Rainier says:

These guys (Sessions, Graham, Kyl) are all so freaking clueless that in their haste to obstruct they are showing their racism and sexism for all to see. This is not the way to win hearts and influence people.

  16. P.D. says:

Hispanics and women are not going to forget this. I’m tired of old white men ruling over everything from reproductive rights to equal pay. Most of the men on the SC are older men who grew up in a different era. Alito and Scalia and Thomas are as radical right as you can get.

  18. majii says:

Sessions is just pi$$ed because he couldn’t get under Judge Sotomayor’s skin. He wanted her to refuse to answer questions like Roberts and Alito did repeatedly. She bested him by anwering every question in a clear unruffled manner. Sessions is the type of person who sets boundaries for minorities and gets upset when they prove themselves capable of trancending those boundaries. In his mind everyone has a “place” in society and should stay in it.
    Stay classy, Beauregard.

  21. Winski says:

As has been clearly demonstrated too many times to count, OFFICIAL Racist and keeper of the Alabama KKK flag, Sen. Jeff B. Sessions once again proves he is a dirtbag.

  22. 5th Estate says:

You know the Daily Show is going to work their ‘magic’ on this.

At what point do you suppose the GOP is going to wake up to the fact that there’s this thing called YouTube and Google Video, and that more people get their information from the Internet than anywhere else?

  23. mild_bill says:

Let’s hope the people of Alabama can find someone
else to vote for the next time Sessions runs for
office. They need someone “wise” of any ethnic
group, sex, or party. This bozo has to be an
embarrassment to most of the people of Alabama.

  24. shoeless says:

Where is backup to tell us that Jeff Beauregard Sessions isn’t an assh0le because of the context of his life?

  25. shoeless says:

Did John Roberts answer any questions at all?

  26. evangenital says:

We need more dirt on the Grand Wizard Sessions.

  27. linkwray says:

What Southern politicians “can”t remember” would fill a large swamp in Mississippi with the bodies of civil rights workers, oh say, in the 1960’s. What they can’t seem to remember was the vote purging of minorities in the last several elections. What they can’t remember would fill up hell and may well sooner than they can recall why they deserve to be there.

  28. laprofesora says:

Why don’t Sessions and his cronies all crawl back under whatever rock they slithered out from? As I have said on other sites, these Neanderthals would be slobbering all over Judge Sotomayor if she looked like Sarah Palin. But the poor Judge only has brains and integrity; she doesn’t know that to win over these morons all she has to do throw a few wink-wink’s their way. PATHETIC.

  29. dasm says:

These Repub guys are idiots & liars– watch the video, you stupid propagandists!! Sotomayor was attacked by Repub hysterics, context-twisters, & liars; Roberts & Alito were given the professional courtesy they didn’t even deserve by Dems. Analayze that.

  30. amish_edison says:

If the GOP wasn’t so racist, greedy, and corrupt (morally and fiscally), I might actually feel pity for them after watching their repeated pathetic displays.

You can at least say this about the GOP, their party is publicly dying in the same way it lived…without class, without dignity, and without regard for anyone but itself.

  31. glogrrl says:

Is it just me, or does Sen. Sessions just exude stupidity? Never before have I looked at someone and said to myself, “God, that guy LOOKS like a stupid idiot”! Teh Stoopid just shines out of his hangdog face.

  32. evangenital says:

The treatment of Ms. Sotomayor by the repiggies is conclusive proof of their racialist bias against non-whites.

Please keep this in mind whenever you go to vote. Please don’t vote for any of these repiggies, even for local office. They are all in on this stuff, no matter what they may publicly say.

  33. Dr. Insouciance says:

It’s great that the Democratic Leadership was ready for this little maneuver, and responded so quickly.

  34. P.D. says:

The reason why Sessions is in power is because of the stupidity of the people in Alabama. I feel for progressives and Democrats who live there. You couldn’t PAY me to live in a Red State. Just look at the grade performances in Red States. Those poor children are being cheated out of an quality education because people like Sessions calls the shots.

    shoeless says:

I think b-cup was treated harshly by the new “Vote Up/Vote Down” protocol and may have been taken aback by it.

  36. pbeeg says:

Sessions claims Roberts and Alito answered questions more ‘crisply’ and with more ‘clarity’ than Sotomayor.

    And in a deeper voice!

  37. shoeless says:

I think he was also surprised that he couldn’t defend racists without getting himself covered in bigot poo.

  38. ranus69 says:

Sessions racist bigoted past speaks for itself. He’s upset that Sotomayor has the integrity to be confirmed to SCOTUS and she out witted his dumb a$$. I’m sure Sessions is probably over at the Committee for Justice putting together another racist and baseless attack ad. Geez!!

BTW has anyone notice that most of the southern red states with Arizona included are trying to eliminate any and/or all ethnic cultural classes from the public curriculum since Obama was elected?

  39. PissedOffVeteran says:

I here the Latino media says the repubs aren’t going over too well with the Latino street. Seems Sens. krackers don’t know that in Latino culture it’s not polite to pick on Wise Latina Women.

  40. pete says:

Just because GOoPers don’t know all those big words doesn’t mean we can’t figure out what she’s saying.

  41. RUCeriousMaggot! says:

Perhaps she wasn’t speaking in a drawl that Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III could understand.

I read a story the other day from Texas, as one would imagine, that the school board is considering a motion to remove Ceasar Chavez and Thurgood Marshall from a civics textbook.

  43. Mr. Sonia Herecomestheangst says:

    RUCeriousMaggot! says:

Perhaps she wasn’t speaking in a drawl that Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III could understand.

If Sotomayor spoke like the Balladeer from the Dukes of Hazzard, she’d not only have his vote but he’d be her new BFF.

  44. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Crisply and with clarity. Translated: she didn’t agree with Sessions and bow before him as a slave would to a master.

  45. katy says:

they just keep asking the questions in hopes of throwing her off,
hoping for “inconsistencies” in her answers…

    “gotcha!”

  46. Wiz says:

Sessions sees through the lens of his racism. Of course he understands an old white guy better. It is part of his disease.

  47. cage free brown says:

I hope when a lot of people hear the word “Republican” that the image they get in their minds is the image of Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions during these proceedings – his eyes shining with bias – looking like Dobby from the Harry Potter movies only stubborn, thin skinned. it CAN’T be taught!

  48. rdn says:

“I can’t answer”, “I won’t answer”, “I poo-pooed in my pants” are VERY, VERY crisp answers. The clarity is amazing. What an effing moronic bozo Jefferson (figures) is.

  49. Megaloptera McWars says:

Where is Alabama is a great place to raise a family?

  50. pags2 says:

If this doesn’t embarrass the Republicans, then nothing can.

  51. labman57 says:

Another example of revisionist history coming from the GOP.

  52. KayInMaine says:

Funny that Sessions is only hearing mumbling when Sotomayor talks. That’s because he’s a typical reich winger who listens with his fingers in his ears!

  53. nellre says:

From what I can tell, for the GOP insanity is the norm.

  54. margarine says:

Sometimes there’s nothing better to say than “this guy is a piece of crap”. I wish I had something more insightful to say, but that’s really all there is to it.

  55. Doc Rock says:

Sessions has proved himself a not too bright, unrepentant racist supported by a less than competent staff.

  56. questioneverything says:

Roberts and Alito were clear alright–clearly fascist, right wing Christian nutjobs. And the Democrats did nothing to stop them. Unlike Sessions and Kyl and Graham and all the other wingnuts on the judiciary committee who are trying to create such a stir over a basically conservative choice by a basically conservative president. Give me a break.

  57. Game of Life says:

I don’t know why these repug crooks are still in this process. We all know they are crooks and are just there to obstruct and grandstand. The more they talk the more racist, sexist, and stupid they sound.

I do wish mooseyak and steeley damn were in the stupid-mix.

  58. pluege says:

if I want information on science I go to a scientist, not a clown.

if I want to hear honest, reasoned judgment on an issue, i go to an honest, reasonable person, not a republican

i don’t understand left blogostan’s obsession with the insane idiocy of republicans like sessions. Who gives a flying f**k what ignorant, bigoted, disgusting vile senator shit for brains sessions and his fellow cretinous republicans have to say about anything.

  59. christopher wiwi says:

Well Sotomayor clearly has more Federal Bench experience than any other nominee in how long………..man is his tin hat way to tight.

  60. Constant Weader says:

I don’t know, I think, “I refuse to answer,” is right crisp. What the Southern Gentleman is complaining about is the wise Latina’s good manners in politely demurring. Evidently Sen. Sessions has hit on “an excess of civility” as grounds for rejecting the nominee.

Of course, for Sessions, the real problem with Sotomayor is that the Senate voted some while back to let her wear a black robe & they told Sessions he would have to stick with his white robe — the one with the hood.

  61. Wannabekool says:

I have big news! The one who is befuddled and muddled is Senor Sessions. Now that that is settled, we can all be at rest.
