I say this as a democrat and an african american who couldn’t be more proud with where the country and by extension the world is going right now, but who realizes that we suffer as a whole when there is no credible debate in our two party system.

Steele is “colorful”, but the republicans need heft, critical thinking, policy alternatives that aren’t laughable, and a coherent strategy to maintain some semblance of a balance of power.

At some level I understand that it’s better this way although I’d say I wouldn’t give a hoot if the current brand of conservitism would go the way of the wigs. If Obama get’s education, energy policy and health care done in his first term, that’s a possibility.

If Democratic spending is far more than Republican spending, then why is spending with a Republican president and congress far more than with a Democratic president and congress? Bush used a gimmick where he gave corporate America a one day break on paying their quarterly taxes. What this means is that a projected $30 billion was booked on October 1, 2001 rather than September 30, 2001. That means that the actual budget surplus for FY 2001 was $158 billion and the actual budget deficit for FY 2002 was $188 billion. This one year $346 billion swing is the largest on record (before FY 2009) and can be traced to the first round of Bush tax cuts. When there was a second round of tax cuts the deficit swelled by another nearly $200 billion. The rest is history.

The right-wingers seem to think that, in order for it to be worthwhile, a public plan has to be free of all problems. If that were the case, then you’re damn right it would kill private insurance.

But it’s not the case. It can never be the case. Still, the problems inherent in a public or government plan will generally be ones of incompetence, while the problems inherent with a for-profit program will always be ones of greed, compounded with incompetence.

What you should do is:

1) Stop assuming darwinism is true just because you want it to be true.

2) Stop lying all the time by saying that evolution is fact, science, and has evidence; it is not, and is not, and has none.

3) Repent from your ungodly lifestyle and behaviours.

4) Stop pretending that you would ever discard darwinism; because you darn well know that you will always believe it is true, no matter what, period and you and your kind spin any and all evidence that destroys it as ‘evidence for it [[roll]] ‘. Put more simply, stop trying to fool the naive into believing darwinism is science and you are open-minded enough to discard darwinism one day; because everyone knows that is just more lies from you (you must be taking lessons from ken miller who told similar lies at the Dover trial…or maybe its just all part of the standard darwinist playbook).

I can see any of our pet trolls trying to make the same demands while never seeing the irony.

I can’t speak about Massachusetts but I’m on Medicare and, despite the confusing forms, it’s the best insurance I’ve had. Private insurance was always hard for me to get because of a pre-existing condition. Many of my friends are vets and, the ones I know, are very pleased with their VA health care.

No one’s saying their aren’t going to be problems. But the problems don’t compare to the benefits. And for every testimonial of horror the frightened children trot out there are countless success stories of bodies healed and lives saved. Trying to halt health reform because of a fear of problems is akin to disbanding the nation’s police departments because a pedestrian got hit by a police car.

They probably believe in what they’re saying because they have no affinity to the truth.
