Nick Rahall ‘thrilled’ to jump out of a plane for coal.

Friends of Coal Auto Fair This Saturday, House Natural Resources chair Nick Rahall (D-WV) jumped out of a plane in service of coal. As he announced in a press release, Rahall’s leap with the US Army Golden Knights parachute team at the Friends of Coal Auto Fair was a “Nick Rahall affirmation of the importance of coal“:

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be invited by the Golden Knights to join them for the Friends of Coal event. It is a very special honor for me to be able to show – in a bold way, my continued support for not only coal, but for everyone who serves the people of West Virginia and our Nation through their service in our armed forces and law enforcement agencies. It is a Nick Rahall affirmation of the importance of coal and an opportunity to pay tribute to those who extraordinarily serve and make personal sacrifices each day for the citizens of West Virginia and our Nation as a whole.

Last month, Rahall voted against the American Clean Energy and Security Act because he believed it would not “ensure coal mining jobs for the future,” even though the legislation has “huge subsidies for ‘clean coal.’” Rahall recently cashed a $5000 check from the Coal Miners PAC, $2000 from the Arch Coal PAC, $5000 from the American Electric Power PAC, $2500 from the CONSOL Energy PAC, and $1000 each from the Dominion Resources and Allegheny Energy PACs.

A person that would jump out of a perectly good plane that’s not going down has to be numb on both ends.

How is it legally ok for an Army unit to be attending a partisan affair, in uniform, no less?

I suppose if your friends jumped out of a plane for coal….

    – - Rahall and the press coalesced.

If he was making a delivery, a truck would have been a better choice.

This is so stupid! Are we supposed to be impressed? Just like these guys to think that a little flash and dazzle will win over the un-washed masses.

  8. Wiz says:

Or maybe it is a way for this guy to get a lobbiest to pay for sky diving lessons.

  9. Wiz says:

Note: Coal comes from under the ground not out of the sky.

  10. pags2 says:

He represents an area that is dependent on coal mining for work. I can see his point about the bill not protecting jobs in his area. Unfortunately, the area has little else to offer and if coal production is abandoned, there will be no jobs or voters left.

    Hi Proud:
Can you explain how jumping out of a plane is an indicator if intellectual capacity or did you just mean that central nervous system is required to operate the musculature needed to do so?

There’s a lot of flat mountaintops now for him to land on in WV.

—- Do you have any idea how much weed is grown in that area. Maybe he should just jump out of a plane for reefer…

i’d like to answer that for proud

(because he’ll probably get “voted down”)

    the answer is this:

if you jump out a plane,

    you’re smart.

    :)

    glory, glory!

    :)

    pass the meth.

    :) :) :)

So who paid the costs of his jump, I wonder? Instructor-assisted skydives can cost a few hundred dollars. Wouldn’t it be a violation of ethics rules and the Congressional Gift Ban to accept this type of in-kind activity from the coal industry?

Glory, Glory a Democrat with a brain. Maybe all hope is not lost.

I probably missed it, Proud, but did you write a scathing comment about former Colonel Peters and his nasty comments about the GI being held by the Taliban?

    _____________

I could honestly not care less about the poor poor coal miners.

Worrying about coal miners losing their jobs due to climate change legislation is kind of like worrying about the poor poor terrorists losing their jobs due to intelligent foreign policy.

  21. CP says:

The poor poor coal miners eh Chiroptera, that some mighty nice compassion you are showing there.

If you lived in my area I’m sure you would have loved the 1959 Knox Mine Disaster.

You could have cheered when all those “poor, poor miners” drowned. You B!tch.

Or the poor opium growers in Afghanistan. Obviously, someone needs to find an alternative that people can make a living at. Not just keep doing what we’ve been doing because we’re throwing people out of work to save the planet.

THAT is the biggest question, IMHO.

  24. Jane E. Schneider says:

Toasterhead, for once I’m going to have to disagree with you. I DO feel sorry for the mine workers. It’s a sucky, dirty, dangerous job, made even suckier, dirtier and more dangerous by the mine owners’ fight against safety issues.

Hopefully greener, healthier jobs can be realized for these poor people. Go after the mine owners, not the workers.

  25. wiley says:

I’d like to see the Coal Miner’s daughters working in clean, small factories, making windmills and solar panels with a strong union and good benefits. They can keep the beautiful countryside and have clean aquifers.

  26. bluesunflower says:

If Rep. Rahall truly wanted to support coal, he should have jumped off a train instead.
