Earlier today, The Plum Line’s Greg Sargent noted that RNC Chairman Michael Steele, who is doing everything he can to stop health care reform, went three years without health insurance and once told his kids not to “break anything” because they didn’t have coverage. “Steele, presumably, now has insurance, so his family doesn’t have to be quite so careful,” wrote Sargent. While Steele does have coverage today, Media Matters Action’s Matt Finkelstein points out that he was unable to say for sure what kind of insurance he has during an interview with CNN today:
CNN: What type of health insurance do you have? Do you get that through the RNC?
STEELE: Yup, through my employer.
CNN: What company is it?
STEELE: Uhh. BlueCross BlueShield, I believe. Or maybe not.
Watch it:
According to Finkelstein, Steele repeated his claim that he doesn’t “do policy,” saying, “that’s not my job.”
How much more pathetic and stupid can this token imbecile get ?
July 21st, 2009 at 4:22 pmThe stunning lack of basic intellectual brain power by GOP “leaders” (like Steele and Palin) is troubling.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:23 pmCan Michael Steele even take a crap without a GOP talking point?
July 21st, 2009 at 4:26 pmSTEELE: Uhh. BlueCross BlueShield, I believe. Or maybe not.
It must be nice to have the luxury of such good health insurance you don’t even have to think about it…
July 21st, 2009 at 4:27 pmNice to not have to worry about it, hey Michael?
Dipshit.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:27 pmDoes Steele ever answer with a straight forward response?
Hey, Michael, what makes the sky blue?
July 21st, 2009 at 4:29 pm“well, I think it has something to do with the particles in the atmosphere reflecting the sun’s rays. Or, maybe not.”
The name of his insurance is The Old DoubleCross. All Republicans must insure with this company so it has enough to kick back the money as campaign contributions.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:32 pmHe doesn’t know? How convenient.
I will bet this guy is gone before election ‘10 begins.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:33 pmSteele is obviously making the rounds. Watch this clip of Steele and Scarborough getting chippy with each other.

July 21st, 2009 at 4:35 pmHeh; I’m surprised that Mikey remembers which feet his shoes go on…
July 21st, 2009 at 4:39 pmMy wife works in medical billing. She sees denied claims all day long, and certainly more denied than paid. Health insurers extract huge sums from your wallet, and when the time comes you really need it, they f*uck you over. Both providers he mentions are among the worst. Sooner or later he’ll need it, or a family member will, and he’ll find out he (or his employer) is paying for nothing, and they’ll stick him with the bill for care.
You are a talking points parrot, Mr. Steele. Polly want a cracker?
July 21st, 2009 at 4:42 pmDoes he have the one with the Duck, or the Gecko?
July 21st, 2009 at 4:43 pmSWAGGA ALERT! Did she talk about it? barf
He’s on the Dick Cheney plan. 4 free heart attacks (on taxpayers), the 5th one they pay you!
But would you believe him, anyway? He said don’t trust their words.
“My plan? Well, whatever we deny the troops, I gots it! Holla! Hip-hop healthcare.”
Or his plan: personal responsibility and prayer. But if it’s say a car accident just hit the ER and it’s free.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:44 pmLooks like the “liberal media” tripped up another GOP victim with a trick question designed to make him look like an idiot.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:45 pmWhy does the MSM keep giving a forum for the revolving conservative clown show? It’s like watching a dog staring at a fresh bone. The MSM shows these clowns money and all we get to see is their drool. What we hear is incoherent.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:46 pmOr maybe that’s his plan. Swagga.
“Me? I just walk into the hospital and they take care of me. They say, ‘Oh, you wear your hat cocked the same way I do. Everything’s free!’”
… or selling out. That’s one way to get health care.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:47 pmWell, isn’t that rich.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:48 pmMike, maybe it is portable. Of course, if you don’t have anything to carry, it is real portable.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:51 pmI’m willing to give Michael a pass on this one. The question prompted me to take a look at my insurance card, because I wasn’t sure what the exact name of my insurance company was, either.
It’s not that I’m feeble-minded (although there might be a good argument for that at times). It’s that insurance companies in our area have merged, split, and renamed as much as wireless phone companies do.
It turns out that my insurance company is Anthem, and my current insurance card has the Blue Cross Blue Shield logo on it. Examining the fine print, I find it says that Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is an “independent licensee” of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. Furthermore, Anthem BCBS is the trade name of something called Rocky Mountain Hospital and Medical Services, Inc. That’s three names associated with my insurance, and I believe when I enrolled upon being hired, it was just Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.
After reading all that, I would be amazed if very many people with private insurance know exactly who insures them — especially if they get their insurance through their employer. It’s also given me a new appreciation for the staff at my doctor’s office, because they have to keep up will all these companies. No wonder my doctor constantly complains about insurance paperwork — just keeping abreast of what company to send the claim to is daunting.

In your kindness, you are assuming that he remembers.

And you, also, are being very kind (as usual!). Michael Steele, unlike you, is out making the media rounds blasting President Obama’s health care reform plans. Engaged in such an activity, it would be smart to be prepared to be asked about your own insurance coverage and have more knowledge about the subject than the average American(or even above average, like you missmolly). Or it would be smart to just be quiet.
July 21st, 2009 at 4:59 pmGotta wonder if this idiot’s wife knows that he doesn’t know WHAT INSURANCE
July 21st, 2009 at 5:05 pmHow is Michael Steele different from any of the other government officials? Just because he doesn’t use it very often doesn’t prove anything except that he’s healthy. My question is why does our government not have to use this same wonderful insurance we’re being touted. If it’s as great as they say than why was an Amendment, to include Congress to be a recipient of it, already voted down?

You make an excellent point. Yes, if I was making the talk show rounds to blast President Obama’s health care proposals, I would make d*mn sure I could answer questions about my own insurance. Otherwise, I would unwittingly reinforce the perception I was trying to counter — that the current system is complicated, cumbersome, and beyond the mental grasp of too many people.
Plus, Steele generally can’t answer questions that can’t be responded to with packaged sound bites, and I NEVER gime him a pass on that one.
July 21st, 2009 at 5:19 pmThat’s not my job!
Thats right, you job is to prove shit can walk. Well done steele….well done.
July 21st, 2009 at 5:33 pmWhy are these scum sucking, America hating, war mongering, teabagging idiots even getting time on TV?
Have all the clowns went on strike and now all they have are the stand-in clowns?

July 21st, 2009 at 6:02 pmWhat an ignorant, ill-informed dork.
July 21st, 2009 at 6:20 pmPerhaps he doesn’t formulate policy (although as head of the RNC seems, at the least he should have input), but shouldn’t he KNOW what the GnOPer policies are.

I suspect that Mrs. Steele is more likely to know which insurance company they have. I’d be surprised if Michael Steele even knows where he lives.
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:15 amYou mean Shopping for your Private Insurance wasn’t an activity you were interested in when you got your insurance?
