G. Gordon Liddy says Obama is an ‘illegal alien’ born in a ‘hospital in Mombasa.’

G. Gordon Liddy, the man behind the first Watergate break-in and founding father of the “wacko wing” of the Republican party is now claiming that President Obama is an “undocumented illegal alien.” This afternoon, an oddly “catatonoic” Liddy told Chris Matthews that he has a written deposition from President Obama’s step-grandmother where she says that Obama was born in a hospital in Mombasa:

MATTHEWS: He [Obama] wasn’t born here and he’s never gone through a naturalization that you know of, right?

LIDDY: Not that I know of.

MATTHEWS: Therefore he’s here illegally. You’re saying he’s an undocumented alien.

LIDDY: Illegal alien.

MATTHEWS: You’ve said he was born in the Kenyan slums. That means he’s an illegal alien. That means he’s not only illegally president, he’s illegal in the US and he ought to be picked up…by your account he’s illegally in the country…how would you claim he was born in the Kenyan slums? You say that as if it were a fact…Do we have any evidence it ever happened?

LIDDY: Yeah, I’ve got the deposition of the step-grandmother who said she witnessed it.

Liddy is the promoter of several anti-immigrant conspiracy theories. Last year, he claimed that immigrants come from Mexico because “they want to reconquer America.” When discussing the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor earlier this year, Liddy criticized her membership in the Latino civil rights group, National Council of La Raza. He said La Raza, in “illegal alien,” [Spanish] means “race.”

What Liddy was referring to is actually an affidavit filed by a street preacher named Ron McRae, who conducted an interview with Sarah Obama, the second wife of President Obama's grandfather, through a translator. (Sarah Obama is not the president's biological grandmother, but he calls her "Granny Sarah.")

In that interview, Sarah Obama does in fact say at one point that she was there for her grandson's birth. But that was a mistake, a confusion in translation. As soon as a jubilant McRae began to press her for further details about her grandson being born in Kenya, the family realized the mistake and corrected him. And corrected him. And corrected him.     one the one hand, you have a valid and multiply-verified birth certificate, two contemporary birth announcements in local Hawaii newspapers, even the testimony of a teacher at the school President Obama later attended, who recalled discussing the birth that week with the obstetrician who delivered the infant bron of a woman named “Stanley”.

    On the other hand, you have Jerome Corsi, and a deposition from a “step-grandmother”.

    Sure, I can see Liddy’s confidence in his case.

    If you want to see his birth certificate with your own eyes? Write the President and ask. If you want to believe that a 47 year conspiracy to put a foreigner in office has been perpetrated by the nefarious Democrats? Back in the days of Reconstruction, Southerners tried to de-legitimize the African-American representatives that were elected throughout the South. They used blatant racism, calling those conventions that these honorable men who wanted to serve their states called, Bones and Banjos Conventions if I remember my History 164C class 5 years ago, bringing up crude stereotypes to paint a caricature of the men, in order to imply that they had no legitimacy.     According to WorldNetDaily, McRae and Shuhubia each asserted in their affidavits that President Obama’s stepgrandmother, Sarah Hussein Obama, told them that President Obama was born in Mombasa. However, in a December 4, 2008, Slate.com article, David Weigel noted that McRae provided Pennsylvania attorney Philip J. Berg with only a “partial transcript of the call” and that the “rest of the call” showed that McRae was repeatedly told during the interview that “the president-elect was born in Hawaii”:

    On Oct. 16, an Anabaptist minister named Ron McRae called Sarah Hussein Obama, the president-elect’s 86-year-old paternal step-grandmother, at her home in Kenya. Two translators were on the line when McRae asked if the elder Obama was “present” when the president-elect was born. One of the translators says “yes.” McRae contacted Berg and gave him a partial transcript of the call with a signed affidavit. He opted not to include the rest of the call, in which he asks the question more directly — “Was he born in Mombassa?” — and the translators, finally understanding him, tell him repeatedly that the president-elect was born in Hawaii.

    In a December 5, 2008, War Room post, Salon.com’s Alex Koppelman similarly noted that the full audio of the interview indicates that McRae was told “over and over again, that Obama was born in the U.S.”:

    Try finding anything about “gay history online.” It might be something like the 1,234,459 entry. The prior ones are religious whackjobs filling it up with nonsense. One wrote on her blog that, “back in the Roman times, if a man would have made a pass at a Roman soldier, that Roman soldier would have stabbed him with his spear.”

    You can always purchase a book about it.

    I particularly appreciate how devoted the birthers are to “proof”, yet they conveniently ignore the contemporaneous birth announcements in two Honolulu papers and the confirmation of the validity of the birth certificate by state officials in Hawaii.

    It’s almost as if they don’t want to acknowledge those facts.

    So tell me did factcheck get it from Obama himself? That is the only way that they are going to get to hold it in their own hands and check it out. Hawaii will not give or release a birth certificate to anyone but the person the birth cirtificate is for. So that means that factcheck is lieing about having it.
    Since Obama and his lawyers wont let anyone with a court case see it then i don’t see factcheck getting ahold of it.
    And the Hawaii Dep. of Health said that the image of Obama’s BC doesn’t have the stamp or signature that it should have. They also said that the “seal” that is on there isn’t clear enough to be sure where it is from. It is not from Hawaii.
    Not only that you tell me how it is that he could be born in 2 different hospitals in hawaii. Both the Kapiolani Medical Center and the Queen’s Medical Center have him being born there.
