Jindal Tours Louisiana Attacking ‘Washington Spending’ While Handing Out Jumbo-Sized Stimulus Checks

Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-LA) has been touring his home state of Louisiana for what he calls a “Louisiana Working” tour to promote “jobs, jobs and jobs. That must be our No. 1 priority.” On the tour, Jindal is giving stump speeches decrying “Washington, D.C. and other officials” for seeking to “spend more money” during an economic downturn.

Indeed, on Monday, Jindal declared the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to be a failure, calling it a “stimulus that has not stimulated.” In local Louisiana newspapers, Jindal touted his administration’s intent to “not run things here in Louisiana the way they do in Washington.”

As he travels to each community, Jindal has been gaining many positive headlines by sponsoring press events where he gives out jumbo-sized checks to towns and parishes. Below is a picture compilation of checks Jindal has presented to Louisiana communities such as Lafayette, Terrebonne Parish, St. Landry Parish, and Vernon Parish:

Jindal presents stimulus checks

Despite the fact that the checks contain millions of dollars of Recovery Act funds for job training programs, housing assistance programs, homelessness prevention programs, police training, criminal justice technology upgrades, and community development block grants, Jindal has been printing his own name on the checks and taking credit for the money. For example, Jindal presented Lafayette with yet another jumbo-sized check that contained at least $2,125,584 in Recovery Act funds. Though the money came from spending policies authorized by the Recovery Act, Jindal did not appear to credit the Recovery Act at all. And although the state stands to gain nearly $8 billion in federal funding from the Recovery Act, Jindal was one of several GOP governors to try to block the measure earlier this year.

While Jindal knocks Washington spending as he builds his national profile, he is shoring up his local support by spending Washington money.

Hmm, let’s see… Jindal is proving to be hypocritical, partisan to the point of ignoring reality, and eager to talk about problems while disparaging real solutions.

Sounds like a Republic presidential hopeful to me.

  2. Skeeter1 says:

This just shows the inherent dishonesty of so many in the GOP.
The love to talk about morality, until they are required to be moral.
They love to talk about states rights, until their state does something they don’t like.
And they love to bash governmet spending, unless it is spending on them.
Remember: “Pork” is defined as “Government spending in somebody else’s district.”

  6. misscoleopteramolly says:

Does anybody remember the extra funding Bill Clinton asked for soon after he came into office, to give to cities specifically to put more police officers on the streets?

I remember that. I also remember our very conservative Republican mayor running for re-election claiming, “I put XXX more police officers on our streets!” (even though he originally opposed Clinton’s plan). I seem to recall Rudy Giuliani doing that as well. They were given money to increase their police force and the money wasn’t permitted to be used for any other purpose, so they hired more police with the money and tried to tell the voters it was a wonderful thing they did on their own.

Now I see Bobby Jindal is doing pretty much the same thing with his state’s stimulus money. And I’m willing to be he won’t be the only GOP governor to do so.

What a bunch of hypocrites. But it’s become such a way of life for them, they can’t even see the slime anymore.

katy, we here in New Orleans just call him “tool”.

It’s “chutzpah”, but you have a ten-minute dance squence when you say it.

  11. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Jindal has been printing his own name on the checks

Please, pretty please, one of you journalists please ask Jindal if this means he is paying for the project out of his own bank account. When, he says “no”, ask him where the money is coming from. PLEASE?

Most of the governors yapping about refusing federal spending while doling out the checks come from states that net beneficiaries of federal taxes. In other words, taxpayers in Blue states like NJ, NY, CT are funding Jindal’s tour.
Remember that when these boobs try out their fiscal responsibility BS in the 2012 campaign.

  13. Art says:

I think Jindal is counting on the people not really caring where the money comes from, as long as they get it.
So he might as well take credit for it.

I wonder what the Republicans would say if President Obama went around to different communities handing out GIANT CHECKS?

  14. linkwray says:

Another “useful idiot” for the powers that be. The corruption in that state is incredible and the “The Big Sleazy” is a city unlike any other in America. They drown their own people for a few kickbacks. Only the music redeems that area.

  15. hellinabucket says:

Proud, you proud of Jindahl? The man is flat out lying.

  16. leftzone says:

Damn Librul media. You’d think someone besides TP would highlight this hypocrisy. Maybe the the most trusted journalist in America, Jon Stewart will do a piece on this.

  17. nanlichi says:

Please don’t tell me that Jindal is a lying hypocritical whore. Wait. He’s the fair headed child in the Repugnant Party, of course he is.

    My bad.

  18. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre says:

Jindal is just another worthless lying hypocritical Republican prick.

  19. texasrick says:

There will be a high percentage of the “Louisiana intellectual elite” that will actual believe that “Bobby” is responsible for their good fortune.

  21. The Moderate Squad says:

Bobby Ginmill says: Jindal touted his administration’s intent to “not run things here in Louisiana the way they do in Washington.”

Considering how many people still are not back in their homes after Katrina, Louisiana’s abysmal record on education and the number of people living below the poverty level, I don’t know that Bobby ought to be crowing about the efficacy of the “Louisiana Way.”

  22. Buckie Boy says:

Republic Fascist Party Member hypocrite…so what else is new…it’s what they do.

Has the “Liberal Media” pointed out that he is handing out Fed stimulus funds?

    NO!!! Well, surprise, surprise, surprise!!!

  23. glogrrl says:

Once again, a display of the Rethuglican philosophy of “Do as I say, not as I do.”

Not going to happen any more than the local MSM pointing out the hypocrisy of what Jindal is doing. Nationwide 85% of our MSM is owned by conservatives. I’m betting it’s more like 100% in LA and that MSM is going to tell the citizens what they want them to hear, not what is really going on.

  25. linkwray says:

While it’s not unusual for state politicians in Louisiana to had out money to other politicians it is Very Very unusual to have it photographed.

  26. fletc3her says:

And look at all those proud Republican donors taking their welfare checks!

  27. DallasNE says:

Both political parties pander. To do it on a really grand scale Jindal is showing you that you need to be a Republican, however. Oh, and MSM will allow him to get away with it.

wait a sec – what “national profile”????

    do “also-rans” have “national profiles”????

caribou barbie makes jindal look like the doorman whose name no one knows, and that’s no compliment to her, either.

I noticed that all of these parishes have a predominantly white population and none are located on the coast, where Katrina’s damage was the most devastating.

  33. WAYNEBRO says:

    More Jumbo Checks?

He does realize this isn’t LOTTO, right?

  34. Mike Hunt says:

This proves that Jindahl is truly the face of the future of the Repignofascist Party – clueless.

  35. singe_101 says:

So the best he can do as governor is personally deliver checks like he’s Publisher’s Clearing House.

But he isn’t actually fixing problems for hundreds of thousands of people, even with oil and tourism business that bordering states (Arkansas, MS) would love to have.

    That’s governing?

  36. barrelhse says:

Hopefully his duplicity will come back to haunt him, although, for some reason, that seldom happens to this kind of people.

  37. shoeless says:

Indeed, on Monday, Jindal declared the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to be a failure,

Part of it is a failure. Jackasses like Bobby Jindal got part of it.

  38. pags2 says:

It is up to the local press and the Dems to expose the BS by Jindal. Once he is perceived as a liar, his reelection chances go down.

  39. OceanDog says:

Those Publisher’s Clearinghouse checks are freaking ridiculous. Would *love* to see the collage put together in one document, with the total amount of all the checks, and the caption: Governor Jindal, where did the $XX million you are claiming as your own really come from???
    A) your own checking account
    B) The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

  40. shoeless says:

    pags2 says:

No they won’t. He’s a Republican. Everybody expects him to lie.

  41. zuma58 says:

So I guess he thinks the people of Louisiana are going to believe he wrote these checks on his personal account? I think they are smart enough to recognize this for the ridiculous sham that it is. And I hope the local and national democratic party is pointing it out with TV and radio ads just to be sure.

  42. ljm says:

Great idea zuma 58, at #41! La. people keep an eye on this please. Pressure on this please. The problem will be that you obviously can’t embarrass Jindal.

  43. WAYNEBRO says:

All these photos lack is a hand cranked wire cage cylinder full of numbered ping pong balls and a blond wearing a sequenced bikini.

  44. glycolized says:

It seems that any of the cash disbursement should be done in a solemn, business-like manner, not a party, given the severity of the economic situation. As far as I’m concerned, the stimulus is a last ditch effort to try to prop up a failed economy, and the money hand-outs are not a cause for celebration.

You don’t bring a cake to the hospital room the day they are starting chemo on your sick aunt. Save it for the party at home when she recovers.
