On Fox News Sunday, the pundit roundtable continued to harp on President Obama’s initial reaction — and subsequent clarifications — to the arrest of Harvard African-American studies professor Henry Louis Gates. On Friday, Obama conceded he could have “calibrated [his] words differently” after originally stating the Cambridge police acted “stupidly.” “Everybody needs to climb down, as the president said in his briefing room comments,” NPR’s Mara Liasson said. But right-wing pundit Bill Kristol refused to let the controversy die, complaining that Obama’s apology was the sign of an “arrogant” man:
The President could have said, you know that was a stupid thing for me to say. But he didn’t say that for some reason. You know, that would be too self-deprecating. And I think he is an arrogant man. And he feels entitled to pass judgment on Cambridge cops or on pediatricians…
Watch it:
Putting aside that Kristol has made a career of sitting in judgment of others, the Cambridge cops have said they are “profoundly grateful that the president took time out of his busy schedule to attempt to resolve this situation.” In a statement, Cambridge police officers said, “It is clear to us from this conversation that the president respects police officers and the often difficult and dangerous situations we face on a daily basis.” As former McCain campaign adviser Steve Schmidt said of Kristol, “He’s in the business of ad hominem insults and criticism.” Schmidt observed, “That’s a reflection of [Kristol’s] values. He’s the Washington, D.C., talking head and glitterati.”
Coming from Wild Bill? LOL
Let’s not forget that Kristol has never been right about anything. Jon Stewart pointed that out to him on the show.
July 26th, 2009 at 10:52 amKristol on Obama: ‘He is an arrogant man.’
Project much, Billy?
July 26th, 2009 at 10:53 amOnce again, as in Rev. Wright and H. Gates, we see the “uppity Negro” theme trotted out by neocon pigs.
July 26th, 2009 at 10:54 amArrogance thy name is William.
July 26th, 2009 at 10:58 amIsn’t it amazing how quickly they have forgotten the arrogance of the last administration?
July 26th, 2009 at 11:00 amOn the other hand, President Bush stuck to his principles and acted “presidenshul”.

ARROGANT = UPPITY.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:00 amWhy isn’t the police officer who arrested a man for entering his own home and then refuses to apologize for any inconvenience to the home owner arrogant?
July 26th, 2009 at 11:02 amOh the hypocrisy, the blind id leading the blind once again!
July 26th, 2009 at 11:03 amKristol is as arrogant a man as they come . H himself e feels entitled to pass judgment about everything.
And Neo-Con Kristol is dead wrong as always, Obama’s apology was heartfelt and correct.
Bill Kristol is the most arrogant piece of crap to clutter the airwaves, pretty rich considering he is wrong about EVERYTHING.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:03 amThis from Kristol, one of the most arrogant, judgmental, dishonest men around, who never gets anything right.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:04 amI want the kind of Kevlar career William the Bloody has established: a pattern of being consistently wrong about huge issues, yet still in demand for his opinion. This, despite any apparent appealing eloquence of expression, or wit, or even physical attractiveness.
He somehow manages to combine a smarmy tone with the understood realization that whatever he says will most likely prove wrong.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:06 amPot, meet kettle. I am beyond getting angry at Little Billy Kristol’s arrogance. He is merely a pathetic, shallow, ignorant, impotent neo-con schill. He is to be pitied more than despised.
However, I would recommend a character-building exercise for this little mealy-mouth that he might find very instructive. I suggest that he go back over his own pronouncements of the past two decades and create a tally of when he was right and when he was wrong. If that doesn’t create some humility for him, nothing will.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:09 amI’m curious whether anyone has ever noticed a pundit or politician or, well, anyone referencing Bill Kristol to support an argument. Like in the middle of some weighty discussion of policy, or economics or even sidewalk maintenance, has anyone heard “Well, according to Bill Kristol . . . ” I am guessing the answer is no, because I don’t believe there is anyone on the planet who thinks Bill Kristol’s opinion on any subject is worth more than a shake of the head and a chuckle–other than, maybe, Bill Kristol.
I love my dad, but it would have been nice if he’d been the “godfather” of something so I could spend my time sitting around on talk shows pretending anyone was paying attention to my opinions. Apparently, I could be drunk on my butt when I did it, or firing up some weed in the Green Room and make as much sense as needed.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:10 amIt’s the southern strategy again…
Anyway, why has the focus shifted from the legit issue? This isnt about Obama (although Kristol wants to keep it there).
This is about the legit experiences of African Americans regarding the cops. Obama knows it and tried to say it in an honest way. Bravo for raising the issue.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:14 amObama called a police officers arresting a crippled old black man “stupidity”. He then apologized for it.
Bush violated US and international laws, and never apologized for anything.
Which is the more arrogant man?
The fascist theocratic Republican Party continues its Obama bashing propaganda campaign unabated. We must never allow Republicans to ever regain political power. We must remove them from every federal and state position lest America crumble into dust.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:14 amarrogance: an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions.

July 26th, 2009 at 11:14 amKristol is one of the most ghoulish lumps of human waste on the planet, alongside Cheney.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:17 amI think the Democratic Congress and Senate need to draft legislation to ban propaganda cable news networks and radio talk shows. If we can’t get them to stop any other way, let’s take away their microphones.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:20 amAnd Kristol is an ignorant ass.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:27 amWhen I watched the video, I noticed the other’s sitting there with Kristol looked like they knew what he was saying was going badly.
They are not smiling, and they look a little embarrassed. Perhaps that is what a wingnut looks like when they are ashamed of what their mouthpiece is saying.
You can see hopelessness and defeat etched on all their faces.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:28 amTruly arrogant people rarely apologize in any shape or form.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:29 amWhen it comes to arrogance, nobody can hold a candle to George W. Bush. Bush told the world that God speaks through him.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:29 amKristol states that Obama is arrogant? It is
July 26th, 2009 at 11:32 amKristol clear that to pontificate about ANYTHING given his
history of being wrong about EVERYTHING would be
arrogance itself! Bloody Bill is so arrogant he can strut sitting down.
Shayne says:
Shayne, I think hauling the man out of his own home, handcuffing him and taking him to the police station where he they took his mugshot and fingerprints, then held him in a cell goes far beyond the definition of inconvenience.
But I certainly agree with your point!
PEACE
July 26th, 2009 at 11:34 amI say of Kristol: He is a stupid man.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:42 amKristol hasn’t the capacity to self-reflect on his own arrogance based on his ignorance and bigotry. His ego prevents any introspection. As he is too incapable of seeing his own faults, shouldn’t someone close to him tell him to STFU because he makes a fool of himself every week? Or are his friends all like-minded arrogant azzholes? I suspect it is the latter.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:46 amThe WASPs are out in force this weekend, all tsk-tsking that the president spoke out on the absurdity of arresting a man for being in his own house.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:51 amThe police officer was arrogant in that he overreacted to the situation – and he, one who is trained in handling these matters – the professor also overreacted. But apparently the police and the conservatives who defend them no matter what, don’t see the inconsistency in their argument.
Only a black man in his own house could be arrested for yelling at a policeman.

And yet, they say nothing.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:51 amKristol with his Ivy League education exudes arrogance. Obama, despite his Ivy League education, talks to people and not at them.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:53 amThey are paid to say nothing if they disagree with what is being said. If they were to disagree with any of the propaganda talking points, they would be fired in short order; or they would apologize saying the words coming out of their mouths were not what they were thinking at the time.
July 26th, 2009 at 12:02 pmBill Kristol should apologize. Kristol doesn’t know what went down at the scene. Obama may be a bit more informed than Kristol realizes. Kristol should apologize.
July 26th, 2009 at 12:11 pmHas an elected Republican or a Republican pundit ever apologized for anything?
I mean, given the dearth of scandals that have plagued the Republicans, have any of them ever given an apology as sincere as that which Obama gave the police officer?
Maybe the trolls can help me here. Has any Republican apologized sincerely for anything since Reagan was president?
July 26th, 2009 at 12:18 pmCan we please put this silly “uppity” meme to rest? The man is the leader of the free world, you can’t get any more “up there” than that.

That’s exactly what’s griping the asses of Kristol, Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, the birthers, and all piss-soaked racists in this country — and that’s why they have to try to knock him down.
July 26th, 2009 at 12:23 pmKristol often has problems with the English language. The dictionary defines arrogant as “disposed to exaggerate one’s own worth or importance in an overbearing manner”.
Come to think of it, this exactly describes Bill Kristol.
July 26th, 2009 at 12:24 pm“Obama is arrogant”
Translation: “He needs to learn his place…“
July 26th, 2009 at 12:32 pmBoy, the presidential office sure has changed all of a sudden. Everyone was supposed to watch what they said when Bush was Commander in Chief. Now, the president is supposed to be deferential to a beat cop.
July 26th, 2009 at 12:42 pmObama is “arrogant” according to Kristol? This from a man who for the last 8 years has proferred nothing but predictions that never came true, who has been wrong on every issue that is important to the people of this country. Why anyone takes him seriously is beyond me.
By the way, he is on The Daily Show tomorrow night with Jon Stewart…..I hope Jon reads Think Progress comments and this time, once and for all, school this smarmy, lying ass once and for all.
I despise Kristol. He and Dick Morris are 2 of a kind—always wrong,.
July 26th, 2009 at 12:52 pmSTFU Kristol
Practice with these:
“I am the decider!”
“You are either with us or against us!”
“I signed off on that wonderful transaction: Sammy Sosa for Harold Baines”
“You don’t get everything you want. A dictatorship would be a lot easier.”
“I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don’t agree with each other, but that’s OK. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m the dictator”
July 26th, 2009 at 12:54 pmHe’s such an uppity black man, isn’t he, this Obama? Who is he to comment on ANYTHING??? — For Pete’s sake, the man won the confidence and respect of the electorate by a rather large majority–didn’t just squeak by like Clinton, or outright lose, like Bush.
So why is anyone even listening to this silly man Kristol?
July 26th, 2009 at 1:02 pmHow dare that arrogant uppity black man..! He acts like he is the elected President of the United States..doesn’t he..? He acts just like he is the “decider in chief” now…just because he won the election by about 13 million votes..doesn’t give that black man the right to act like the President or sit in the Oval Office….does it, Billy? That is an excellent point, gumble-bee-itch. Kristol is never brought on during a news story to provide background information or facts learned from journalistic reporting, he only appears on political talk shows (of a kind) for his opinion, and he has never been right about anything! His strongest defense, weak as it is, is to say, “Give it time. Fifty, a hundred years, down the road, history will prove this was the right thing to do.” Nor does he ever present a rationale for his opinions that is in any way fact-based. He proceeds from axiomatic ideological principles that he refuses to question or allow to be challenged, and insists that he is right, regardless of how violent, how disgusting, how out-of-touch, or how wrong his conclusions have been, are now, or will ever be. And yet time after time he continues to be presented as some kind of expert (I’m not even sure what they claim his bona fides to be) on foreign affairs and ask him what the president should do. Why?
By now, everybody inside the Washington Beltway knows that Bill Kristol has been wrong about everything for a long, long time. They have to know it. So why do they pretend that his opinion is one that needs to be listened to? The only explanation I can think of is that he plays a role in the challenge for conservative ideas and principles to gain acceptance in mainstream America. (Read David Brock’s fantastic book “The Republican Noise Machine” for the details of that struggle.) Someone has to say these things on TV and radio as far as the wealthy elite right wing (the ones who fund all the conservative think tanks and money-losing newsmagazines like “Weekly Standard”) is concerned, and Bill Kristol has accepted that role.
July 26th, 2009 at 1:30 pmKristol began with inaccurate information because the president did not call Crowley or the Cambride PD stupid, but said that they acted stupidly in Dr. Gates’ case. There’s a difference, and Kristol knows it, but has decided to wear his white robe on national teevee. He heard Limbaugh speak to Obama’s arrogance and decided to continue pushing the meme.
July 26th, 2009 at 1:36 pmHis statements are just more examples that show: 1.) Limbaugh is the unofficial titular head of the Republican Party; 2.) Kristol received and acknowledged his daily talking points; 3.) the GOP’s lack of courage; 4.) none of the members of the GOP are capable of critical thinking and forming independent opinions on any subject; and 5.) party over country.

God, Bill is such an arrogant little prick.
July 26th, 2009 at 2:19 pmHmmm, I sense some bad blood between Schmidt and Kristol. Could it be that it was largely Kristol who foisted Sarah Palin on the McCain campaign and Schmidt had to follow the parade with a broom and shovel after Sarah dropped her road apples?

July 26th, 2009 at 2:24 pmI appreciate your perspective and views in the two TP topics today.
Kristol on Obama: ‘He is an arrogant man.’
He says this after Obama so graciously invited him and the other thugs to dinner and what not attempting bipartisanship and inclusion?
What would Kristol say about Obama if he behaved the way WE wanted him to – forget the GOP and get on with business?
July 26th, 2009 at 2:25 pmI’m not for violence but when it comes to Kristol I’ll make an exception.

And how could Obama have been a community orgnizer if he was so arrogant. We all know how poor communities just love arrogant people to come in!!!!!!!!!!
July 26th, 2009 at 3:07 pmKristol is lame, weak, and an embarassment to the nation. He ought to put on a pair of knee pads and crawl across the country, apologizing to every person and family who has had a loved one killed or wounded in Iraq. And he could take his buddies Wolfowitz, Feith and Perle with him.

July 26th, 2009 at 3:23 pmI suppose the world must know the whole truth…
Little Miss Kristol is projecting again. Darn, and I told him six years ago to stop this shit. Oh well, like almost all Republicans, Miss Kristol is just trying to make things worse. That’s what they do, you know… By December 2010, the Repubicans will be on the endangered species list in most of the fifty states. After giving us eight years of torture, treason and tyanny, along with a thousand lies, you’d think that the Republicans would have enough sense to just shut up, but no…
July 26th, 2009 at 3:25 pmAt this point, can the question be raised that Bill Kristol hates the fact that an Africa- American is president? They use the birther, muslim, terrorist, angry, and now arrogant labels.
July 26th, 2009 at 3:26 pmCal Malenky says:
Could it be that it was largely Kristol who foisted Sarah Palin on the McCain campaign ……
Kristol did and he is still touting Palin as a major candidate for 2012. I would certainly like Palin to be the Republican candidate so Kristol, Limbaugh, Hannity, et al, can try to foist her on the voters. After the election there will be almost no Republicans in Congress.
July 26th, 2009 at 3:41 pmI find it amazing that people still want to hear what this Neo-Nitwit has to say.
I guess that it’s the Faux News listeners, with their less than average minds that look up to Billy as some kind of “smart guy”. I guess that if you’re not too smart, Kristol looks smart and he talks so pretty, so he must be smart.
But the truth of the matter is Kristol is an idiot. He may be well educated, which only makes him a well educated idiot.
And he plays into all this as well. He is well paid by Faux News to babble his worthless options to the unknowing. The Faux News listeners love his condescending attitude about the Dems and Liberals and they just eat it up.
The fact that Kristol is talking out his ass doesn’t seem to bother the Faux News viewers.
I think that Kristol is a legend in his own mind, and he is out standing in his field. And yes, he’s ALWAYS wrong.
But arrogant? As they say on Faux News, I report, you decide.
“Among conservatives there’s been too much pseudo-populism, almost too much concern and attention for, quote, ‘(We) the people’… After all, we conservatives are on the side of the lords and barons… We…are pulling up the drawbridge against the peasants.” – Billy Kristol
End of one peasant’s report.
July 26th, 2009 at 3:42 pmKristol doesn’t have to be right. He doesn’t make a living being right. He makes a living smearing the Dems, much like Rush. That’s all he has to do to keep his bills paid. Truth? Right? He doesn’t need either. His “Standard” is published at a loss to a very small circulation, but because it makes him a “writer,” that allows him to be a political mouthpiece.
July 26th, 2009 at 3:58 pmBill Kristol is an arrogant man. He feels entitled to pass judgment on the President of the United States.
July 26th, 2009 at 4:04 pmSorry, Cons, but I can’t help but think Pat Buchanan is a racist bordering on becoming a white supremacist. Not withstanding, I remember several of his articles on the Georgia vs Russian imbroglio which I felt were right on the mark…smart, intuitive, knowledgeable, and informative. I can say the same for George Will’s column an occasion even though I disagree with him vehemently on his conclusions. I could also mention Bill Buckley and I’m sure others here could offer up other conservative icons that, while they disagree with, still respect.
But does anyone, anyone at all, seriously include Bill Kristol even in a long list of great American pundits. It’s not even conceivable. The fool is simply a echo chamber for the most violent and extreme faction of the RNC. He’s one rung above Savage, Liddy, and Judge Roy Moore and has about the same in credibility. He’s purely an ideologue with absolutely nothing original to say and his so-called prognostications are merely his verbalizations of conservative prayers…prayers, thank God, unanswered.
July 26th, 2009 at 4:10 pmImagine if George W. had made the “stupidly” comment. He would be hailed for his courageous leadership on race. The Cambridge cops would know that they could not roll a white President. But they knew they could roll a black President speaking the same truth.
July 26th, 2009 at 4:12 pmThe fascist theocrat Republicans should take a lesson from their own Bible. Judge not lest ye be judged.
Kristol has publicly judged Obama, and now America is publicly judging Kristol. Funny how the Bible never really says God will be the only one judging you, if you choose to judge others.
July 26th, 2009 at 4:13 pmCome on Billy apparently you forgot that your were chief of staff of the dumbest man to ever become Vice President, Dan Quayle. So you for to criticize anyone is laughable. Why didn’t you spend your time trying to educate your boss? You aren’t very intelligent, and it’s easy for a moron to sit in judgement of others. I’m judging you because you make such stupid statements. You are one of the idiots that talked Dubya into going into Iraq, remember? What does that say about you as a person. I’ve never heard you apoligize for the deaths and maiming of all of those soldiers.
I demand that you call each one of their families and say you were stupid and sorry for what happened to their soldiers in Iraq. They would be alive if it weren’t for morons like you going around beating on your weak chests. You were to coward to become a soldier yourself, so you act tough with other people’s blood and guts. You weak lilly livered coward, how dare you critcize anyone. You shold be ashamed of yourself, but you aren’t are you? You think the galacticly stupid advice you gave Bush was right. COWARD!!!!!!!!!

Kristol is an arrogant a==hole, who makes a living out of being wrong on just about every issue. However, he is probably not a true racist since he roomed with Alan Keyes and managed his unsuccessful campaign for Maryland Senator. Kristol perhpas hasn’t gotten over the fact that his buddy has lost to Obama twice already, once for Senator from Illinois and more recently for U.S. President, and he is probably delusional enough to think that Keyes even had a chance.
July 26th, 2009 at 6:12 pmcancervative guy,
I’ve seen him refer to his white background on TV. Just because you’ve never heard him say it or don’t remember his saying it doesn’t mean that it never happened. Health care in Israel is both universal and compulsory, and is administered by a small number of organizations with funding from the government. All Israeli citizens are entitled to the same Uniform Benefits Package, regardless of which organization they are a member of, and treatment under this package is funded for all citizens regardless of their financial means.

I’ll watch because I like Stewart more than I hate krystol. Should be good. Regardless of anyone’s opinion of NBC’s Brian Williams, I don’t think anyone here thinks he’s stupid. He’s really rather bright. And he damn sure knew to bring his “A” game to TDS. I don’t think krystol has an “A’ game.
July 26th, 2009 at 9:41 pmWhen it comes to “arrogance”, no one can hold a candle to Bush.
Remind me again what he apologized for in his eight years of lying & lawbreaking?
July 26th, 2009 at 9:55 pmIf Kristol fell in a forest and nobody was around, would he still say something stupid?
July 26th, 2009 at 9:58 pmWith regards to the Gates situation, I saw Mika Brzezinski make one of the more racist statement I have heard in a long time.
Here is the clip.

July 26th, 2009 at 10:01 pmThey don’t come more arrogant than this little silver-haired ball of snot.
July 26th, 2009 at 10:18 pmAnother Grand Old Projection gas bag speaks.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:36 pmObama ain’t got nothin’ on you for arrogance Billy-boy, you excrutiatingly incorrect a-hole.
July 27th, 2009 at 12:30 amThe Moderate Squad says:
If Kristol fell in a forest and nobody was around, would he still say something stupid?
Yes, and Fox News would cover it claiming it was a left wing conspiracy.
July 27th, 2009 at 12:43 amI have nothing to add …
July 27th, 2009 at 2:09 amAnd pags2, sometimes you’re really F*&^%$#@!ing funny.
*&^%$#@!=iretruck.
Let’s just let G*e%t@ V3n $istern not laugh all by herself.
(* = r)
(% = t)
(@ = “a” or @ or @-hole)
(3 = “a” or @ or @-hole)
($ = duh)
We can laugh at her, not with her…..
That may sound mean, but it’s a gret stress reliever.
July 27th, 2009 at 2:20 amMr. Kristol,
You need to hold your nose up higher when you speak like that.
/snark
When will these idiots (yes you, mr. willy kkkrystol) go away? Certainly, they do not need to making policy decisions on our behalf.
July 27th, 2009 at 4:34 ams/b do not need to BE making
July 27th, 2009 at 4:36 amAlways with the vicious name-calling, folks…adding value to the dialogue in your own special way.
I understand not agreeing with Mr. Kristol on a lot of points, but would you honestly disagree with the assessment that the President is arrogant? You could argue that he’s “historic” or that he’s “progressive” or even that he’s “change embodied” or whatever other lovely labels you want, but nobody’s buying “humble.”
July 27th, 2009 at 5:12 amI disagree with your assertion that the President is arrogant. I think he’s ‘on the ball’ so to speak.
July 27th, 2009 at 5:21 amto straightshooter,
It seems like the Bushies, who saw no ground between black and white, you can’t find a term between “arrogant” and “humble.” And, yes, I disagree with Kristol’s assessment of Obama as “arrogant”–a term I would associate more with Dickhead Cheney, Dummy Rumsfeld, and the Broken-Crystal-Ball himself.
July 27th, 2009 at 5:38 amHow many media outlets owe favors to Kristol’s father? Kristol is off key and off base with nearly every point and every argument he puts forth. He is like “mister wrong”. Tell me the subject and I will tell you what Kristol will say. I can do this because I, like most Americans, know what is right, so I can then predict Kristol’s stance on any subject.
July 27th, 2009 at 7:11 amPoor neocons. They failed to get a senile old fart and a retard elected to the White House and now they’re being denied their rightful place in the center of the political universe by this . . . . this NEGRO.
Republicans need to toss the wingnuts in their midst over the side. Every time Rush or Kristol opens their angry, wee pieholes, somebody in the Republican leadership needs to tell them to STFU and go away. But they won’t do that because they still don’t get it. There won’t be any Republican comeback in any meaningful way until they figure this out.
July 27th, 2009 at 7:54 amKristol is always wrong. When he says that Obama is arrogant, one should leap to the conclusion that it is Kristol who is arrogant, and that Obama is not.
July 27th, 2009 at 8:12 amconservative guy
How come you are such an ignorant racist piece of garbage?
July 27th, 2009 at 9:30 amstraightshooter says:
Krystol is calling the President arrogant. He gives up any claim that no one should call HIM names. I love the way conservatives think that ONLY conservatives ought to call others names. So let me be the one to tell you BITE ME MORON. I dont see a lot of arrogance in Obama. Confidence yes, now BUSH was arrogant. I especially see no arrogance in calling the actions of the policeman who arrested gates stupid for the very simple reason that it CLEARLY WAS STUPID. he arrested an old man who was found in his OWN HOUSE because the guy didnt kiss his a$$.
July 27th, 2009 at 10:03 amHow President Obama responded to all the rhetoric seemed okay to me…I was not offended by any of the statements, considering all were willing to voice an opinion.
Imagine what Kristol would have said about the President if he had actually spoke the words: I was wrong!
President Obama may not be Kristol’s choice, but he does know that President Obama is one smart guy and Kristol’s chance of “taking him down” is ZERO.
So I will ignore Kristol until he says something relevant…which seems to mean No Time Soon,
July 27th, 2009 at 1:43 pmThis Obama fella just don’t know his place.
