Last October, Hawaii’s state health director, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, had tried to dispel false rumors emanating from so-called “birthers” that Barack Obama was not born in the United States. But now that right-wing (and some mainstream) media and GOP members of Congress have been advancing the conspiracy theory over the last several months, Fukino issued another statement yesterday insisting that Obama was born in Hawaii:
“I, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of the Hawai’i State Department of Health, have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawai’i State Department of Health verifying Barrack Hussein Obama was born in Hawai’i and is a natural-born American citizen. I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago….”
CNN’s Lou Dobbs, the most prominent mainstream media figure advancing the myth, has said that Hawaii officials “had destroyed Obama’s original 1961 birth certificate without citing a source.”
I’m surprised Dobbs didn’t cite himself as the source of his information.
July 28th, 2009 at 10:47 amGood. That oughta settle the matter for Dobbs and the rest of the birthers.
Right?
… right...?
July 28th, 2009 at 10:49 amLou Dobbs is so ignorant it’s sexy. I’ll bet he gets all the action he can handle.
July 28th, 2009 at 10:50 amCNN’s Lou Dobbs {…}has said that Hawaii officials “had destroyed Obama’s original 1961 birth certificate without citing a source.”
– - They destroyed ALL the paper records in 2001 and went to electronic data files.
I guess Hawaiian officials were hedging their bets in 2001, 3 years before Obama was an Illinois STATE Senator, that he might some day be President and they had to cover their tracks and protect their “native” son, right Birthers?
July 28th, 2009 at 10:52 amwhen will cnn pull the plug on lou dobbs? don’t they realize they are losing crediblity as a news outlet everytime he spouts this whacky nonsense? let him go over to faux where he can keep the other cnn reject glenda becky company
July 28th, 2009 at 10:52 amI’m sure the birthers will just claim Dr. Fukino has been paid off by the Obama machine. Just like the Governor of Hawaii (a Republican), the FBI, CIA, and Secret Service (who were serving George W. Bush at the time Obama was a candidate), and Chief Justice Roberts, who administered the oath of office (a Republican appointee).
Yep, all these people must be in on it — either bribed or brainwashed by Obama’s people into perpetuating the lie that Obama is an American citizen.
Which begs the question — if President Obama has that kind of power to turn anybody into a mindless obedient zombie, ready to say anything he wants (even people from the opposing party!), how is it that he’s having so much trouble getting his public health plan option through Congress?
July 28th, 2009 at 10:52 amIt’s curious that the birthers weren’t so into documentation when it came to W’s military service.
July 28th, 2009 at 10:55 amHawaii health director insists Obama natural-born.

Well, anyone with a brain knows Dobbs has been insane for quite a while. He has a history of promoting almost every right wing whackjob conspiracy theory as well as inviting white supremacists to give their propaganda spill against immigration.
CNN needs to fire Dobbs, so he can go to the right “news” channel for him, Faux Newz.
July 28th, 2009 at 10:56 amThe birthers will not believe this because it does not fit their agenda which is to create opportunities to question Obama’s legitimacy, thereby, creating opposition to his policies and weakening his support. I just read an article on Alternet that lays out the reasons why the underlying motives are based on racism.
July 28th, 2009 at 10:57 amHey, Molly has a point. If Roberts swore him in — doesnt it mean he is in regardless? Isn’t the imprimatur of SCOTUS sufficient? Just sayin’, it worked for Bush…??

Because that would be illegal. President Obama is a private citizen, and thus has a right to privacy under US and Hawai’ian law.
July 28th, 2009 at 11:04 amObama’s birth announcement had been published in the local paper thus proving the conspiracy to elect him president was far more insidious than we had first imagined. Surely it is Rosemary’s Baby, the Anti-Christ, The One, that has enslaved us with a smile. Let the Birthers of the Birth of a Nation don their robes and sally forth with blazing cross!
July 28th, 2009 at 11:06 amMissMolly is, of course, totally correct. And as some brilliant mind brought up yesterday, it there was any question about whether or not Obama was legal qualified to run for the presidency, wouldn’t Hillary’s machine have been the go to source for the real dirt?
Dobbs is a fool, and CNN looks really bad with all this. Again.

July 28th, 2009 at 11:19 amDobbs has railed against illegals from Mexico for years. Dobbs just doesn’t want non-whites doing anything in this country, let alone being president.
July 28th, 2009 at 11:20 amWhat Dobbs didn’t mention that is important in this discussion (at least I think it is) is that the State of Hawaii converted all of their paper records to electronic records. It was not just Obama’s “birth certificate” that was destroyed. In fact all records of all people prior to the point of the records conversion were converted from paper to electronic.
Lying by intentional omission is still a lie, Dobbs (damn, for some reason, my fingers keep typing Dobbs as “Doggs” — a Freudian slip not intended in any way, shape, or form to put down “dogs.”)

So why would Dr. Chiyome Fukino lie about it, do you think he would jeopardize his job for a lie? He is following Hawaii’s state law and federal laws.
Would you want him to break the law only to prove your WRONG. And than he is out of a job and faces criminal charges for a few “crazies?”
The bottom line is your not going to get the vital records, period end of story. His birth has already been confirmed over and over and over again.

July 28th, 2009 at 11:58 am1) The Birfers will never be appeased because their real objection is that President Obama is black and a Democrat.
2) IF the Birth Certificate WERE the real issue then the ‘Birfers’ should be able to produce the KENYAN Birth Certificate of Barack Obama–but they can’t because it doesn’t exist.
3)The birth certificate “issue” is irrelevant because ANYONE born of an American citizen ANYWHERE is AUTOMATICALLY a US citizen (I for one am living proof of that FACT).
3-a) The “natural born” requirement of the original United States Constitution if strictly applied would limit Presidential legitimacy to only those born in the original 13 Colonies or the original United States.
If the ‘Birfers’ had any sincerity about their declared concerns then Lincoln (Illinois), Richard Nixon (California), Ronald Reagan (California) would all have been illegitimate Presidents and John McCain (Panama) would have been an illegitimate candidate.
The Constitution’s 14th Amendment (1868) established American parentage as co-equal to geography as a defining factor in the determination of US citizenship and thus eligibility for office.
‘Birfers’ are just either/and/or ignoramuses and racists.
July 28th, 2009 at 12:00 pmIt is their claims that are legally (and evidentially and logically) illegitimate, not Barack Obama’s occupation of office.

Interesting that you mention the 14th Amendment. There’s a movement among white nationalists and white supremacists that seeks to delegitimize the citizenship conferred by the 14th Amendment, relegating it to secondhand status. It’s quite coincidental to see the birthers now using the same type of 14th Amendment arguments against Obama’s citizenship.
Hmm… white nationalism, birtherism – I wonder if there’s a connection between the two…

TomLei, you are entirely wrong
It HAS been proven, over and over.
Your superstitious belief in the magic sky fairy notwithstanding.
July 28th, 2009 at 12:14 pmI guess you don’t consider the Hawai’i State Health Director to be in a position to confirm the President’s native birth in his state.
I suppose you can continue to pretend that the issue hasn’t been settled or even addressed. That’s certainly one way to go. Doesn’t really say much for your analytical skills, however.
July 28th, 2009 at 12:15 pmI don’t recall a fuss being made about George Romney back in 1968 when he lost the Republican nomination to Nixon. Romney was born in Mexico in one of the Mormon separatist communities that were organized in the 1880’s in order to continue the practice of polygamy. He later returned to the US with his family. I guess that his family retained their citizenship despite having left the country in order to circumvent the law.

Why do you not offer that simple proof of your continence, and put all the rumors to bed (which you may and/or may not have wet)?
July 28th, 2009 at 12:18 pmLook this has nothing to do with Obama’s birth certificate it has to do with he’s the black President. All the twist,A lies and spin can’t change the real reason the Republicans are going after Obama and want him and the USA to fail. Obama brought all Americans together and the GOP is mad. I never thought I would live to see this happen as I’m a baby boomer.

July 28th, 2009 at 12:20 pmTomLei, you are correct that man cannot change an Act of God. It was an Act of God that made Obama be born to a white woman and a black man. It was an Act of God that made Obama be born in Hawaii, just after it became a state. As for Obama getting elected, it was an Act of the American Voters. Get over it.

_____________________________________________________________
If you really want to be accurate, Lincoln was born in Kentucky, and Reagan was born in Illinois. But you’re correct that Nixon was born in California. And your point stands — other presidents born outside the 13 colonies include Clinton (Arkansas), Hoover (Iowa), Truman (Missouri), Ford (Nebraska), Grant, Hayes, Garfield, B. Harrison, McKinley, Taft, and Harding (all in Ohio), and Eisenhower and LBJ (both in Texas). Nobody ever complained about the birthplaces of these men.
The “natural born” issue has come up before — but not with the decibel level it has for President Obama. George Romney ran for President in 1968, and was challenged for being born in Mexico. Barry Goldwater was challenged for being born in Arizona — three years before it became a U.S. state. And, of course, there was the matter of McCain being born in Panama. But each of these situations brought only a faint ripple of protest that quickly died down.
Of course, all of the above men were white, and that may have something to do with it…
July 28th, 2009 at 1:07 pmI love how Lou Dobbs makes no sense. How can one destroy a Hawaii birth certificate if, as he and other birthers have claimed, such a certificate isn’t supposed to “exist” because Obama was born in Kenya? A big nail in the coffin, there.

Wow. Those Ayn Rand books must have had some powerful narrative force to be able to sell this idea — that even though the rich may have used dishonesty, manipulation and access to the mechanisms of the legal system to gain advantage in their drive to accumulate wealth, they really deserve it because they’re so much financially smarter than the rest of us.
Not even a passing thought for the natural dynamic of wealth tending to concentrate itself in fewer and fewer hands as time goes by (as we’ve seen over the past thirty years), and whether this is good for the economy and nation as a whole or not. Nope. As long as one can justify such a dynamic through an appeal to social darwinism, it’s all cool.
And this one talks about “reason” and “intelligence”.
Sheesh.
July 28th, 2009 at 3:27 pmTomLei President Obama had 69 million Americans who voted for him as President. Senator McCain had 59 million votes. Now in this a Democracy President Obama got 10 million votes more then McCain. I know many racist are angry the US has a Black President and would even want Sarah Palin before Obama. It’s hard for the Republican KKK members to accept calling a black man Mister and even worse having him live in the White House. Nothing will charge for racist and those who hate no matter what is done. Now those 2 per cent Wealthy White Americans only want Obama in office to fix the mess caused by Bush over the last 8 years. Don’t worry with Satan’s blessings a White President will be back in Office after the Black President fixes the Economy and then the KKK members and Racist Republicans can get back to the Bush/Cheney Mission of stealing from the US Taxpayers. Look I remember my country before the Civil Rights Bill was passed and witnessed a black man hanging from a tree, students getting attacks by police, even Gov. George Wallace standing in front of the school saying blacks would come in the school over his dead body and he would shot a black kid if they stepped in. The hate and racism of the time and the people was deep in their hearts and some of the left overs are showing up now. Just think who would hire a math teacher who didn’t know math but get his/her answers off a Starbuck cup or a Geography teacher who knew nothing about Geography, well it seems Americans have no problem with putting Sarah Palin in office at lease 59 milllion voters. McCain is sick and is losing his memory, he has no knowledge of Economy as he stated himself, yet to keep the Bush mission on track 59 million Americans would rather put him in office. The bottom line is 59 million Americans don’t want even an educated Black man as President and if possible remove every Minority from office and bring back Slavery to rebuild the country as before.
July 28th, 2009 at 3:27 pmTomLei says:
Your post was a long litany of talking points. Reasons why the rich shouldnt pay their fair share. Did the rich become that way by being smarter and working harder? Yeah thats the way Paris Hilton did it right? Thats they way George Bush became rich… WAIT no it isnt. He did poorly in school, only got into Yale as a legacy after the University of Texas refused to admit him, failed in every business he ever tried. Then was GIVEN 10% of the Texas Rangers after using his name and political influence to get a tax increase on the people of Arlington Texas. Your silly talking points about how the rich WONT pay more is nonsense. It is an EXCUSE not to tax the rich. In the fifties which is an economic golden age they paid more than 90% at the top rate. They have gotten the lions share of the tax cuts since 1980 and its time for them to kick some back. Government CAN create both jobs and wealth. Look at rural electrification. A huge exenditure for building hydroelectric system and laying lines to those rural households that private industry wouldnt have ever done as there wasnt enough of an economic payoff to do so. Then all those rural households bought electric radios, TVs and other appliances that had to be build which meant jobs. The cheapest energy prices in the world was a boon to US companies small and large and both wealth and MANY jobs were created because of this.
All you did was repeat the brainwashing and talking points of the rightwing. None of it is religious dogma handed down by God and in fact much of it was plainly false. None of that has anything to do with Obama being born in Hawaii which at this point is proven to the extent that only stupid, brainwashed stubborn wingnuts armed ONLY with ideological blindness refuse to accept
July 28th, 2009 at 3:50 pmNo. 83:
I do want his polices to fail, him I don’t care so much about.
But if you want his policies to fail, then you want him to fail. You can’t just say one and not mean the other because him and his policies go hand in hand.
Like practically everybody on this site I do not want the USA to fail and it is not about his being a “black President” either.
Are you certain about this? Would it have made a difference if, say, McCain were the one pushing these policies instead of Obama? Think about it. If McCain were the president would you be as inclined to dislike his policies?
What I disagree with is that he wants the rich to pay more taxes and more in taxes. He wants the poor to pay less in and fewer taxes.
Not true. The poor are not going to be paying less than before. They may even be paying more due to factor such as COLA and inflation – which doesn’t always take into account a person’s actual living situations.
The rich mostly got that way by being smarter and more educated in finances than the rest of us. Yes, they may have been less honest, more manipulative, greedier, had lawers similar to themselves and a bunch of other nasty stuff, but they are finacially smarter. They and their lawyers will find a way of not paying more taxes if they don’t make more money.
Just because one is smarter in the ways is financial manipulation does not mean one deserves the money they got, as a LOT of people make or made their money this way. The Kennedys, the Carnegies, the Rockefellers, the Bushes, even the Roosevelts – all of those families made their millions drug-dealing, land-stealing, and monopolizing business and forcing millions out of their jobs back around the turn of the century – do their descendants ‘deserve’ to keep this money on account that their ancestors were so sneaky and wrecked lives?
And I doubt, as modern examples, people such as former Enron employees or those who had been take in by Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme would agree that people who make their money – especially those who make their money deviously – should be allowed to keep it and be minimally taxed for their illegal maneuvers.
What Barack Obama wants is Socialism. The Government pays for everything. The Government must use TAX money to pay for it. The Government is not a business that creates jobs or wealth like IBM, GM, Ford used to.
Hate to break it to you, but government is actually one of the biggest and most lucrative employers in the country, both directly (working for senators, departments, armed forces, or being a lawmaker or even a janitor) and indirectly (billions if not trillions of dollars in contracts to make everything from super tanks that can withstand missile attacks to those presidential pens you get when you visit the White House). They employ several million people in order to keep government going. So yes, in a way the government IS a business. And it doesn’t matter what level you go to – a lot of the tax money goes to maintaining and paying these government employees (many, I might add, who don’t make very much themselves, incidentally, unless they are high-level).
The government takes money from people who use their intelligence, imagination, training, education and ambition to find a need and fill it. Making a living from such effort is Capitalism.
Again, not everyone who is rich is necessarily living off of their imagination/ambition/etc. For every Bill Gates there are ten Paris Hiltons, if not more.
It would work better it the President weren’t trying to kill it. Higher and more taxes means that those people who gain or get rich by starting, running and making succesful their own businesses will have less reason to do so.
Also not necessarily true. Yes, it will take more money to do it, but even in this economy it’s not as hellishly impossible and won’t be. It’s much easier to start a business here than in, say, Venezuela, wouldn’t you say?
Few, if any, people do anything without a reason. Being rich and/or being powerful are two common reasons for people to do something, not always good, but some-thing.
Being rich and powerful is one of the reasons our country is in the pickle it’s in to begin with. The lack of oversight of Wall Street during the Bush years is one of the big reasons we are having this problem (re: Madoff again). Another reason is that these same big and powerful corporations are trying to stop regulation – ALL regulation – on things like airline safety, health insurance, bank oversight, etc. and the way to do this is to influence Congress to undermine the President.
Dethroaning Barack Obama as President in this manner is better and more legal than other alternatives. For those of you who disagree with me, show intelligence and point out where I’m wrong. Personal attacks show weakness in both belief and proof and it shows stupidity.
Saying it’s legal doesn’t necessarily make it better. Remember: slavery, segregation, sexism, forced sterilization and the executiion of mentally disabled people regardless of their innocence or guilt were once legal.
July 28th, 2009 at 3:52 pmI have an advice for Lou:
1.Either you produce evidence that Hawaii officials destroyed the original birth certificate of Obama, or shut up.
2. The other advice I have for Lou:
July 28th, 2009 at 3:59 pmDon’t mess with a guy his name called ‘Fukino’…!
Very nicely done. A point-by-point refutation of TomLei’s argument, presented with intelligence and reason, and without personal attacks.
Kudos.
July 28th, 2009 at 4:02 pmThanks, Ralph. :)
July 28th, 2009 at 4:16 pmTrue Papirini, I agree with Ralph. Personally I dont know you keep the patience. About the tenth time I hear the same, stale, cliched, rightwing talking point. I get a little testy
July 28th, 2009 at 4:22 pmWhy is it all the rich people I know that are rich are rich because their parents and grandparents were rich. I don’t know but I few rich people who got rich by being brighter or harder working. What is this bullshit myth…Oh and by the way I know a lot of rich people…

I do believe in God, and I have no doubt that she is disgusted with the likes of you. You are clearly devoid of compassion, kindness, tolerance, and the ability to accept facts or knowledge. To come on here with a superior attitude is laughable.
I have so had it with people like you, I am considering training my dog to be a birther attack dog. So stay out of my neighborhood.
July 28th, 2009 at 10:15 pmHas anyone seen the birth certificate, or better yet the birth video of Jesus? No? Then it follows there is no Jesus. It is too easy to turn the tables on the idiot birthers!
July 29th, 2009 at 1:21 amBut that didn’t prove anything, and man didn’t land on the moon and the earth is still flat.

I’m guessing TomLei doesn’t have a pot to piss in, but here he is defending the poor helpless rich people.
Sucker.
July 29th, 2009 at 2:45 amBarfly Please restate what you said more simply and clearly. My ability to think with any clarity and understanding was used up for a while writing 83.
I think my point was clear enough: atheists don’t believe – they insist upon tangible (meaning provable, or manifested) evidence. A “belief” requires a leap of faith, and is not based upon a scientifically reproduceable or predictable event, or occurrance. Belief is for believers, not non-believers, and atheists as such are non-believers.
July 29th, 2009 at 8:57 amState officials in Hawaii, including the republican Governor contend Obama’s birth certificate is real!

July 29th, 2009 at 3:10 pmCouldn’t you just see how the media would be jumping all over this issue if Bush had not shown his birth certificate. And why doesn’t Obami release his COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS—what is he hiding–maybe a thesis on how bad America is. How about his MEDICAL RECORDS that all the other candidates had to show. Why is this Obami allowed to get away with all this. Loony liberal reporters like that Andrea Mitchell should hang their heads in shame in their failings to unearth this guy’s background.
