Tom Tancredo says ‘Sonia Mayer’ appointment could indicate that Obama is racist.

Last night, former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) went on The Ed Schultz show to tacitly defend Glenn Beck’s statements on President Obama’s perceived “hatred of white people.” Tancredo further claimed that Obama’s appointment of “Sonia Mayer” could serve as an indication that he is in fact a racist:

TANCREDO: I do not know if he has a hatred for white people. I can say that his [Obama] statements and his appointment of someone I do believe to be a racist, “Sonia Mayer,” for her racial views by the way — that is an indication, that could be used as an indication by some, that he is indeed a racist. Because it’s depending on what you use as a definition.

Watch it:

Back in May, Tancredo called Judge Sonia Sotomayor a “racist” member of the Latino KKK, otherwise known as National Council of La Raza — the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization. He has been accused of racism himself for warning that immigration “threatens western civilization.” And he even blasted the pope for his pro-immigrant positions. At the end of the segment last night, Tancredo claimed that Schultz could be accused of hate speech for his attacks on Beck and that he would be “affronted” by the mere suggestion that he might have a “deep-seeded hatred for the Latino community.”

I actually saw this yesterday. I’m a Ed fan (Yeah, I admit it) and my mouth dropped. Tancredo is a washed up has-been, better yet, a washed up RACIST has-been. He is like Tom Delay, without the Hammer. I can see them both, waiting for the telephine to ring. Just hoping someone will listen to them. And we do. Sigh!

After goose-stepping along with the Bush gangster regime with eight years of torture, treason and tyranny, Republicans are now at loose ends. They have tried obstruction; not much effect there; they have tried white racism and male sexism against Ms. Sotomayor; the only effect so far is to turn Latinos against them; now the are trying the BIG GOP LIE against health care reform, starring Ye Newe Public Option; with an unknown effect so far; it will probably end up hurting the GOP. And the GOP calling President Obama a “racist.” This is absurd. IS the GOP claiming that the white-half of the President hates the black-half or it is the other way around? Absurd. President Obama seems to like himself and he seems to be having a good time. The GOP is on the Road to Extinction…

  20. JMOHR says:

Once again, the Democrats fail to understand the war that we are in with the Republicans. You will not find a Democratic Senator or Congressman that has accused the Republican Congressional members making these statements of the Republican proponents of these statements as being racist or challenging them on the factual basis their opinions that Sotomayor or La Raza was racist.

It is time to challenge them. I think that during the hearing, Democratic members should have taken Sessions to task. After his cross examination of Sotomayor, I would have followed with this line of questioning:

    1. Do you believe that one who calls someone of another race “Boy” is more racist than one who has made a statement concerning a wise Latina woman.

    2. Do you believe that one who tells another that he should be careful in how he speaks to whites is more racist than someone who made a statement concerning a wise Latina woman.

    3. Do you believe that someone who spoke approvingly of the KKK until he found that some of their members smoked pot is more racist than a person making a statement concerning a wise Latina woman.

    4. Do you believe that one criticizing La Raza as a racist organization without providing specific facts supporting that position and who also had unjustly criticized the NAACP is showing a pattern of racism.

    5. Do you believe that a person who had done all of the above shows racist tendencies that may render that person not only unfit to sit on a court as a judge but also to render judgment on a Supreme Court nominee?

WE ARE AT WAR. WAGE AND KILL THE FU–ING BASTARDS. NO WONDER WHY WE ARE FAILING TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING. IT WAS THE SAME DURING THE ELECTION AND WE CAME CLOSE TO LOSING THAT. IT WAS ONLY THE LAST MINUTE CRATERING OF THE ECONOMY THAT SAVED THE DAY. THE DEMOCRATS HAD BETTER START LEARNING HOW TO FIGHT BACK. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THEIR OUTRIGHT COWARDICE AND STUPIDITY.

  21. WAYNEBRO says:

With two wars and an economic and health care crisis, don’t our elected officials in the republican party have better things to do with the time we’re paying them for other than calling the President names?

Seriously isn’t there just one or two teensy weensy things Tancredo has to do rather than stirring up trouble?

The problem with giving people a job in Congress is no one can fire them when they’re screwing off.

  28. angels81 says:

Repugs have learned that fear will trump truth and logic any day in America. Millions of people in this country will vote against their own interests out of fear. We are a people that are scared that if we change course, we will lose what little they have.

Repugs have made a fine art of fear. Fear of people of color, fear of losing health care, fear of losing one’s job, house, life. Fear, fear, fear.

This is what kills change, this is what keeps the masses in line. The repugs are masters of fear, and Democrats haven’t figured out how to counter the fear.

  29. Shamus says:

I caught that “Sonia Mayer” on ED last night. It reminded me of MSNBC’s very own resident white supremacist and race baiter, Patrick J. Buchanan’s favorite mispronunciation of Judge Sotomayor’s name (BTW, a typical white, male Republican degrading tatic), Soda’ myer.

But, he more often than not just disrespectfully calls her Sonia. It’s the same mindset as calling an African American, “Boy.”

  38. misscoleopteramolly says:

Tom Tancredo no longer holds any kind of public office, and his presidential campaign fizzled before the fuse was even fully lit.

So why is he considered relevant enough to get teevee time? On Ed Schultz, no less?

Why do the media pay any attention to has-beens like Tancredo, Gingrich, or Pat Buchanan? All three pretty much left the stage because they were kicked off. They should be Wal-Mart greeters by now.

  39. angels81 says:

Tnacredo spreads his racist remarks across the air waves along with the rest of the right wing nut bags, and when are the Democrats going to wake up to the fact that they are losing the war of words.

Lars Larson is on hard ball right now, claiming that democrats are going to let seniors die if we pass a public option to health care. Were is the outrage and the Democratic voice to call this shit what it is?

We are losing this war, and come 2010 we will lose seats in congress and the right will be in power again.

For a party that was down and out two months ago, they are looking forward to 2010.

  45. scalle says:

I am a fan of Ed and of MSNBC BUT the only shows I will watch is Countdown and Rachel. I refuse to watch Ed or Matthews anymore and won’t until they stop giving air time to racists especially Tancredo, Pat and Bay Buchanan and Tom Delay. They are all very overet and proud racists and MSNBC should not be giving them a forum to spew their bigotry. If I want to hear and see hate I’ll watch Fox or Lou Dobbs. I don’t understand what Ed is trying to accomplish. everyone that likes Ed and agrees with him KNOW they are racists, he doesn’t have to keep proving it. As for Matthews, he’s a lost cause, he wouldn’t have Buchanan and Delay on so often if he didn’t agree at some level with them. A perfect example was the Ritchie fire fighter case.

Everyone should e mail Ed and MSNBC and tell them to stop giving airtime to hate filled miserable bigots.

  46. Helen Rainier says:

  47. jjm says:

I also like the Law Makers who attack Judge Sotomayor based on race while their married to minorities. Now one Racist Republican deeply rooted in hate but he couldn’t fine a White wife. Yes this man married a woman from Kuwait. Why, because this is what rich man do when no American woman wants them. Now this dude knew this wealthy smart woman from Kuwait need a way to do business in the USA so then came a marriage. Notice how most to the Christian Republican Law Makers don’t show their wives, then we’d know that real deal.

They look at an appointment like Judge Sotomayor (that’s her real name, Tom) and they believe that she was picked solely because of her race. That is all they see when they look at her. They don’t see a person, a judge, a person who has worked hard to get where she is. They see a Latina woman. And they assume that this is what everyone else sees. And that’s why they are racists.

Your argument is also wrong in that Obama is no more black than he is white. And he was raised entirely by whites after the age of two. But either way, he is not Hispanic. And a black, or white, or black/white racist would not be favorable towards Hispanics.

    As might be expected, Terrible Tommy is saying more about himself than anyone else when he opens his mouth. It’s obvious that what he says reflects someone who is scared shitless by anyone different from himself, but not so scared that he won’t try the usual political suckup;

At the end of the segment last night, Tancredo claimed … that he would be “affronted” by the mere suggestion that he might have a “deep-seeded hatred for the Latino community.”

Tancredo doesn’t want to completely offend the Hispanic American community; if he runs for office again in Colorado, he needs their vote. Unfortunately, being something of an ignoramus and recently in the country, he hasn’t bothered to acquaint himself with the fact that a respectable segment of the Hispanic community in the area didn’t just arrive yesterday, in a manner of speaking, as Tancredo’s grandparents did. They arrived in the area about 3 centuries before the Yankees showed up and went to war with them in the late 1840s and took over the region.

Tancredo is just a newbie that can’t hack it. That’s apart from being a rePublicrite Toadie and (very probably) another insurance company pimp. He’s certainly a pimp for Dodson’s pack of christonazis in Colorado Springs.

  95. artf2001 says:

What is Mr. Tancredo talking about, is he really that crazy? George Bush Sr. nominated her, the republicans voted her in. What a fool this tancredo is. I can say that FORMER (R-Idiot) CO congress(man?) Tim ‘[not so] Terrific’ Tanqueray (names sics intentional, just like he was disparaging her by not even tying to get HER name right) is now ‘officially’ a FULL BLOOM’ moon howling, raving, fu*king luna-TICK.

(of the 6th) JUST like Sarah ‘Poor Poor Pitiful ME’ Palin, has taken LONG strides toward walking the plank into political obscurity (eg’Mad Dog’ Santorum, Larry ‘I’m NOT gay, I just LOVE cock’ Craig and others)

a word to that ‘liberal’ MSM: enough already! STOP inviting this kook to show up and blow up and, just let him ‘walk off the deep end

    enough.

  97. Bones AK says:
