Fired U.S. attorney Daniel Bogden is re-nominated by Obama for his former position.

Today, President Obama nominated four individuals to serve as U.S. attorneys — most notably Daniel Bogden in Nevada. “These fine men and women have demonstrated the extensive knowledge of the law and deep commitment to public service Americans deserve from their United States Attorneys,” said Obama in a statement. Bogden has actually already served as a U.S. attorney, but he was ousted in the Bush administration’s political purge. Even Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) said that the case had been “completely mishandled” by then-attorney general Alberto Gonzales. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has been pushing the White House to bring back Bogden.

    Well here’s some real change:

Obama Administration rewarding competence, while the Bush Administration rewards incompetence.

  2. Daddy-O says:

Unless this leads to Bush administration indictments…I’m afraid you have failed to capture my interest.

I mean…when the guy Bush illegally fired because he wasn’t LOYAL ENOUGH won’t investigate Bush…who will?

  3. The Dogfather says:

Wait — you mean the DOJ isn’t just a political wing of the White House? Who knew???

    /snark

Oh, and I’m quite amused by Sen. Ensign complaining that anyone “mishandled” anything…he sure knows something about being “mishandled” if you know what I mean (nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more…).

  4. Chuck Feney says:

May the next announcement be the removal of Leura Canary and her prosecutors, who have been persecuting Don Siegelman on behalf of Karl Rove.

  5. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

What I want to know is why hasn’t President Obama gotten rid of Bush’s appointees? I don’t see the point in keeping them on and I see a lot of harm that can come from it.

  6. Spencer's mom says:

Daddy-O, I agree. It’s nice to correct some wrongs in an incremental fashion, but the greatest wrongs (crimes!) continue to be ignored.

Mr. President, you know the right thing to do. Please do it!

    PEACE

  7. Zooey says:

    Good.

Now, when will the Obama administration get rid of the god-awful US attorneys Bush appointed?

  8. rastaman says:

    he’s still a Repuglican

  9. angels81 says:

So, what will the party of NO come up with to try and block this nomination? They’ll have to twist themselves into pretzels to come up with something that sounds good, it should be quite funny to watch.

I wonder if the offer comes with a complimentary beeotch-slap of KKKarl?

  11. Jackie says:

Now now Dogfighter Senator Ensign was busy with his aide and really didn’t know what was going on in DC. It is nice to see Obama rewarding good lawyers as was all those lawyers fired by Karl Rove and Company. Now I look forward to the Sealed Rove case being open as remember Karl Rove was told by Pat Fitzgerald to get his affairs in order after the hearing with the Grand Jury and Karl has to correct some lies he told. Yes the Attorney General per orders of the White House quickly stepped in to stop the case from being heard and the case was Sealed.

  12. MapleStreet says:

I’d think getting fired by Gonzo shows that they have professional ethics, lack of partisanship, and a solid grasp of the law.

  13. katy says:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has been pushing the White House to bring back Bogden.

so, harry, what can YOU do in return?

we’d appreciate your help in leading the public option into a law,
    effective immediately…

    at the least.

  14. Levi the Dungbeetle says:

Obama continues to impress me as a master politician. No matter what the Republicans do, they lose. If they oppose this guys appointment, they look even worse than they do now, and they look really bad now. If they don’t prevent his appointment, he may start the prosecutions of the Bush/Cheney/Republican/C-street crime syndicate.

We have all been waiting for Obama to restore the rule of law, and this might be the first step.

  15. Helen Rainier says:

I wonder where David Iglesias is now and what he is doing. I’d love to see him be rehired by DOJ. He was the USAG from NM or AZ who was fired. He was also a JAG (military) lawyer in the Reserve.

  16. SP Biloxi says:

Good! That was the right choice for Obama. I could care less of Bodgen’s political party. It was not right of what the Bush Administration did to this U.S. Attorney. The Sith Administration railroaded Bogden.

“Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) said that the case had been “completely mishandled” by then-attorney general Alberto Gonzales.”

Now that is the joke. Ensign was probably too busy getting busy with his aide to recall what happen to Bodgen and Gonzo’s role in the U.S. Attorney firings.

  17. tokin librul says:

    WTF?!?!?!?!

What, can’t Obama find any “moderate” Dims to ramrod in the DoJ? He’s gotta get a Puke retread?

    Chuy!

How many of the former Bushevik US Attys are still in power?

  18. Bones AK says:

It is a start. Obama, et all need to review ALL Bush/Cheney/Rove appointments and possibly reverse them all. It would be worth a few positions to do that exclusively.
