This past week, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) appeared at Sean Hannity’s Freedom Tour in Texas. Standing on-stage with the Fox News host, Perry awarded Hannity a certificate declaring him to be “an honorary Texan.” In accepting the award, Hannity incoherently told the audience, “I promise you, as of Monday morning, we’re back on the mission. We’re going to stop this move towards America and socialism. I promise you with all my heart.” Watch it:
Hannity presumably misspoke about ending “this move towards America.” Or perhaps, he was speaking in code to Gov. Perry’s core constituency who wants to secede from the Union.
‘Honorary Texan’ Sean Hannity pledges to ‘stop this move towards America and socialism.’

Part of him is as aware of this as we are, yet he cannot stop himself. All that momentum. All that pent up emotional investment. It must be horrible, yet nothing can be more horrible than what he is doing now, to avaoid facing reality. facing the fact that reality is not quite what he thought it was. In short, that he was wrong.

TP,
I believe that a proper transcription of what he said should include quotation marks around “America and Socialism”.
I promise you, as of Monday morning, we’re back on the mission. We’re going to stop this move towards “America and Socialism.” I promise you with all my heart.
Personally, I do not believe that, in this particular instance (I won’t speak for others), he was not talking about ending a “move towards America.” Others may disagree with me. YMMV

Hannity is so far invested in his radical views that he will have to find a way out of his rants about socialism. The economy is improving, albeit slowly, and the stock market appears to be responding to the stimulus and bailouts. At some point, Hannity may have to dial back his comments about all of these things, but that just means he will have to find new things to rant about Obama. Hannity has been called on waterboarding and we know how that worked out for him. The media should be pounding the Republicans and Fox over all their statements about socialism, the economy, etc., now that health care is the hot topic.

August 4th, 2009 at 12:34 amNo problem Max, I’m just going to keep om repeating these comments whenever a ignorant troll comes around. These comments above need to be repeated by the Democrats on all of the news programs!!!!!!!
August 4th, 2009 at 12:40 amDear Divided,
It isn’t which side would Jesus choose…
… But how much did Jesus profit? He is a healer, no?
For some, their charge was their Faith in His Father.
For other’s, it was personal and so He gave OF Himself.
… You get the idea. Christ IS that camel who passes through the eye of the needle.
It’s unfortunate that America is “Left Behind” while the rest of the Leading Nations move forward.
We’re #37?
What ever happened to…
… We’re #1?
Why can’t America try that?
August 4th, 2009 at 12:46 amHad enough is right.
In Canada, not only is health care provided, but assisted living and nursing care, as well.
Think about it.
Think about how much our concern for these issues dominates our choices in life, our discontent with these choices, and the fear and stress we experience when our corporate ‘providers’ change the rules. Not to mention how many people stay at jobs they hate for the ‘benefits’.
The peace of mind alone would eliminate a lot stress and anxiety related illnesses.
The majority of bankruptcies in this country are caused by medical catastrophies.
Even if these ‘tea-baggers’ don’t have any heart, can’t they do the math for themselves?
Or, do they REALLY trust a corporate healthcare system that only cares about profits, to look after their welfare.
Doesn’t sound much like freedom.
Sounds more like corporate enslavement.

I want others from other countries to log on to this and other web sites and give their truthful opinion. And in that opinion we will surely see just how stupid we appear and cowardly we are for not taking it to the streets concerning our uncivilized health care system.

You are right again.
Provision of healthcare in Canada and most European countries is an expected government provision, like police and fire protection services, and radio and television broadcasting signals, Medicare, public schools and libraries are, here.
I feel sure they would be shocked, as I never cease to be, at
the blatant corruption of our political system, by way of campaign donations.
What can I say?
August 4th, 2009 at 2:07 amProgress is all but impossible until we have campaign and lobby reform.
Regardless if you are Left or Right wing. Everyone is becoming upset with the government. The American Revolution was started by high taxes, citizens demonstrating in the streets, never ending foreign wars and a distant government with politicians that ignore the people. The recent, underground novel A Time To Stand (www.booksbyoliver.com) shows how today’s citizens are fed up and revolt. This article only affirms that history does repeat itself, over and over.
The question to you is: Is government here for us or are we here for the government?
August 4th, 2009 at 2:57 amWhen I was with my client who was, at the time, a transplant candidate, I met a family at a hospital that was in dire straits. The mother had cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. Though this state was one of the first to have home-care, the father couldn’t be the in-home caregiver. I guess that sexual relations are magic, and when you’re married to someone you’re supposed to be able to care for them 24/7 and provide for them at the same time. They had three young and beautiful children and were constantly struggling.
Family values? PTTTHHHT. Republicans never deliver, and the Democrats need to grow a pair.
Good use of bold, all-caps divided. It’s a thing of beauty when used sparingly and appropriately.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:59 amHonorary Texan……HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Thanks, no thanks.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:14 amDo you really think God could bless the United States with Texas leaving the Union? Boy, I never thought She could answer that kind of prayer, but I take it! Thank you Jesus! Good-bye Texas, so along Texas!

Aww, TP has it’s very own Dale Gribble.
August 4th, 2009 at 4:44 amYep,
That is Hannity.
Willing ready and able to fight straw men
Swan wouldn’t be actually willing to defend this country from terrorists and like join the military. Travel to beutiful Iraq and Afgahnistan? Nah, he only wants to pretend he is something he is not!
August 4th, 2009 at 5:14 amWow….If I had known, I would have happily given Hannity my slot as a Texan !
August 4th, 2009 at 5:26 amThis is the natural order of things: Democrats running the show; Republicans standing around whining about it.
August 4th, 2009 at 5:35 amIf only 3% of the public signs onto the public option, then I guess you wingnuts can’t say it’s a socialist plan, now can ya? Bah hahahahahahahaha! Your rage is being fueled by the corporate lobbyists who are using you to help keep the status quo for them! Yep, they’ve brainwashed you with their lies because they know you’re too stupid to understand the truth. Awwwwwwwww, poor widdle cannonball-headed neocons. You’re stupid and are being used because of it.
August 4th, 2009 at 7:12 amThe Hay-seeds are being used again. First it was the Religiuos Right promising to rid the U.S. of secular music and Hollywood’s influence over our young people and to stop abortion and gays. When that failed (Hell, they didn’t even try) now the ‘Birther’s’ (Or rather, the racists dressed up as Birthers) are going for broke. Obama is Anti-American and driving us toward Socialism! Good luck with that. Young people are saying “Social-what-ism?” The latest Gallup poll shows that although Democrats are hardly liked, Republicans are hated. Only five states lean Republican. FIVE. I guess the Republicans can always invoke Regan. But young people say, “Who’s Regan?”
August 4th, 2009 at 7:52 amThis is another reason I’m thankful that I’m not a Texan!
August 4th, 2009 at 8:26 amIn a match-up between Hutchinson and Perry, I can’t fathom who is the victor. But then again, does it really matter which Wing-nut wins?
August 4th, 2009 at 8:32 amnobody wins when Republicans ascend
August 4th, 2009 at 8:38 amI think I’m going to hurl… what nonsense.
August 4th, 2009 at 8:41 amYou know what? Let them secede. No Federal money, no National Guard. No Federal protection. LOL! Just like Repugs! They don’t think about the future. For all their immigrant bashing, they will be at the mercy of Mexico. I could imagine the chaos now. Dear Lord.
August 4th, 2009 at 8:58 amI swear, idiots like Hannity should be made to write an essay defining and describing socialism before they get to use the word. They use the word as if all it means is ‘badness’. Their incoherence is, in itself, a type of fraud. Their audience, who know no better, gain no understanding from their babbling, only a hazy confusion which adds to their distress and discomfort. No good can ever come from spreading fear and ignorance, for they are not the tools of the honest or the honorable.
August 4th, 2009 at 9:28 amI am a Texan. Born and raised but spent twenty years away before I returned. Rick Perry is a sorry excuse for a Texan and believe me, Hannity is not a Texan. Hannity is an uneducated, former construction worker, turned talking head with no education. Hannity could not define socialism if he had to. This is stupid talk.
August 4th, 2009 at 9:47 amThe picture of Hannity of Fox standing next to Gov. Perry tells the whole story about our today’s media.Today’s media is in bed with government and politicians.
While the media’s job historically was to protect the public from politicans who feared the media the most in the past,today corporate media and politicians are together in the same bed.
Today’s media is doing a good stenography job of what the government tells them to sell to people. Hannity is the tool to achieve such goal by politicians and government..
August 4th, 2009 at 10:01 amThat’s why he was given an award, and in return Hannity gave his promise and pledge to work harder.
Hannity is a tool. I’d be willing to say stupid stuff too if I was getting paid what he was, 100 million a year.
August 4th, 2009 at 10:38 amHeh; it occurred to me this morning that if Lincoln had let the South secede, well, maybe we wouldn’t have some of the problems we have today…
Except for the hordes of uninsured, illiterate, unemployed illegal immigrants sneaking into the United States from Teabagistan.
August 4th, 2009 at 10:42 amThat’s it! I hereby renounce my Texan citizenship and now declare myself a true Californian!
August 4th, 2009 at 11:52 amSean Hannity is like all the rest … loud voice with no substance.
August 4th, 2009 at 12:07 pmDr. Hussein Matt says:
Texas….the land of fake, wanna-be Texans.
August 4th, 2009 at 8:54 am
I spent a lot of time in Texass in training during my service time. I noticed there were a lot of city dwellers with cowboy hats who drive pickups with guns in the back window……
I always referred to them as “pickup truck cowboys”….. I’m thinking handjob will fit right in with that crew, eh?
August 4th, 2009 at 12:30 pmre: #166
We used to call them “drugstore cowboys” when I was younger. There really are a few real cowboys left but not many…I’d bet that if you were to ask the rest why they are walking around with their jeans tucked into their boots, they wouldn’t be able to tell you..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seeing as most Texans like to run around being “Don’t Mess With Texas” macho idiots, one would think they’d be ashamed to hang out with a coward .. a big coward .. a huge coward like Hannity. As far as I know, he still hasn’t allowed himself to be waterboarded for a charity for soldiers families like he said he would. Keith O. offered to give a thousand bucks a second for a charity when Hannity did what he said he would … I’d pay a thousand bucks myself to see that. Doubt he’d even last a whole second!
August 4th, 2009 at 1:58 pmCome to my house you fracking chickenhawk PLEASE
August 4th, 2009 at 3:05 pmROFLMAO . .
An award for being an ‘honorary Texan’ . .
What the hell does that mean? Really . .
August 4th, 2009 at 4:06 pmThe “socialism” jingle is just a stupid and tired old sound bite. America will never become “socialist” (I supposed he really means Soviet style “socialism” – which is dead). The US does have a pretty good distribution of wealth compared most economically developed countries.
He obviously does not care about the uninsured. He probably thinks that if they can’t afford health insurance well, too bad (social Darwinism?).
Hannity is probably really worried his taxes are going to go up. Let’s hope so. The top 5% have certainly have been the major benefactors of the so called tax cuts of the last eight years.
August 4th, 2009 at 5:15 pmThe Freedom Tour was just a great show for a great cause.
