Liz Cheney: ‘America needs a Commander-in-Chief, not a global community organizer.’

This past weekend, the conservative blog RedState hosted its annual gathering. Featured speakers included Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt, former Congressman Pat Toomey, and Texas Governor (and secessionist sympathizer) Rick Perry. Among the most outrageous comments of the convention came from former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Liz Cheney:

CHENEY: In order to survive as a nation, our President can’t function as a disinterested international arbitrator. He can’t attempt to stand above America and our enemies. In other words, America needs a commander in chief, not a global community organizer.

Watch it:

Cheney’s comments hark back to the 2008 Republican National Convention, where GOP Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin and former Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani openly mocked Obama’s past work as a community organizer. Erick Erickson, editor-in-chief of Redstate.com, writes that Cheney also said that President Obama “does not care for either pediatricians or policemen.”

Only problem is that approach so bankrupted our economy, the world economy, and any good will we may have previously had and ended up as an Al Q recruiting tool as we ran roughshod over everyone else.

Come to think of it, this approach also describes how we approached nature.

Yeah, Liz, a global community organizer that had inherit the Sith Administration’s mess and that is getting things more done now in his 6 months in office is far better than the drunk, cokehead, draft dodger President that stole the Presidential election for 2 terms. And let’s not forget the 5 deferrment, draft dodger, and co-President Supreme Leader Dick.

What exactly has Liz Cheney ever done, written, performed or accomplished that gives her the credibility to make sweeping pronouncements on foreign policy? What an incredibly pompous comment — and it means nothing. Kind of like that comment about Hillary’s book, “It Takes a Village”, when some wingnut said, “it doesn’t take a village, it takes a FAMILY to raise a child.”

Of course, this was delivered as red meat, so it didn’t have to mean anything. But I gather the intention was two-fold:

    1) It’s our job to find fault with anything the President does or says — even if we just make a comment that makes a vague suggestion of incompetence and doesn’t give any specifics supporting it.
    2) We would much rather that the President just threaten to bomb anybody we don’t like instead of the somewhat sissy approach of employing diplomacy and building relationships.

And then there’s the part about Obama “function[ing] as a disinterested international arbitrator.” This is pretty funny, coming from the defender of a past president who didn’t even know there were other countries on the planet until he was told to bomb a couple of them.

  19. tokin librul says:

“does not care for either pediatricians or policemen.”

Y’know, I can sympathize with that. When I was a kid, i was in the car-sellin’ bidness, and was advised by a grizzled old thief who owned a lot on which I started to always pay special attention to folks who, on the credit app, listed a trade that began with “p.”

“They’re drinkers,” the old thief told me. “Painters, plasterers, plumbers, they’re all drinkers. Can’t trust ‘em.”

I can’t see, on the face of it, how pediatricians or policemen are deserving any different treatment.

  23. Above the Clouds says:

Didn’t her dad “have a few beers,” shoot his friend in the face, then send someone out to lie about it for him? The stink Cheney left in the WH will take years to clean out.

  24. Ape-Man says:

Liz want’s to be Supreme Leader some day. She knows that will be hard in america without torture, assasinations, and control of the media, so she wants things to be like the good old days when her daddy ran America all by himself.

Liz wants Darth Cheney back in office to save him from War Crime Charges. Now President Obama has worked 24/7 on the Recovery of the US Economy yet Cheney never showed up for the American people in the 8 years he was VP but he did show up for Halliburton, CIA Leak, illegal Iraq invasion and many many other crimes.

  42. Megaloptera McWars says:

Daughter rump thinks she can trample on a duly elected president out of frustration that she didn’t expect the public to sour on daddy, the most despised veep in history.

It’s an incredible measure of arrogance in the political arena, where the losers sidestep the voters’ will and constantly hound the new guard for not maintaining their failed idea of governance.

President Obama is ending the War for Halliburton and returning to the real threat. Good military advice in the Bush administration was left to a best-selling book or op-ed; this president is actually listening! Daddy surged the Taliban threat by cutting-and-running to waste American lives.

Barack H. Obama IS the Commander-in-Chief.

  43. Mike Hunt says:

And we definitely need less of Liz Cheney’s mewling about what she thinks. So far it seems to be singularly lacking in any form of positive discourse. Who wants to hear someone who complains all the time?

  49. paleolib says:

Try again Tundra. Hillary, to her eternal shame, voted to authorize Bush to take action against (i.e. to invade) Iraq. Not exactly an attack on the president. If you think the Cheney father-daughter attacks on Obama during his first year in office compare to something Chelsea Clinton said on the campaign trail during the last eight months of Bush’s second term you aren’t paying attention.

  50. okie dokie says:

How dare any Cheney scold Obama for his diplomacy concerning the “brave Iranian men and women”.

While I agree it’s wrong, the Clintons had no problem doing it to Bush. They are both wrong, it’s a crappy thing to do, however saying you never saw it is ignoring reality.

    That’s a lie.

For the first four years of Bush’s presidency Bill Clinton barely uttered a word about him. Only after his SECOND term did anyone really mention him, and then it was mostly due to Hilary RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT HERSELF, where she had no choice but to mention him.

And I’ve NEVER heard Chelsea utter a word about Bush.

Ignorant liars try to equate the constant out of the gate sabotage that the Bush’s and the Cheney’s have launched against this President in his first few months of office to a few vague comments by the Clintons later in Bush’s SECOND term, for reasons so obvious one would have to be a fool not to see them.

  52. WAYNEBRO says:

And that quote you posted from Chelsea was just a campaign speech for her mom, AFTER Bush ruined the world, AFTER Bush’s Presidency was over.

Not his first FEW MONTHS IN OFFICE.

Liars like you is why no one knows the truth anymore.

You take your “half truths” and sell them to the people as fact, and only those who take the time to actually research your lies know the difference.

  53. WAYNEBRO says:

President Obama has been in office for a few short months and since that brief time the Cheney’s and the Bush’s have attacked and criticized this President and helped launch massive efforts to cripple him out of the gate.

This is unprecedented in our lifetimes, and it is a disgrace to our country.

Apples and oranges. When George W. Bush became President, Hillary had just been elected Senator from New York. She was far more focused on her new job than trashing the President, and had little to say about his performance until later. In fact, she even DEFENDED some of his post-9/11 decisions (such as voting to give him authority to take whatever action he deemed necessary to fight the GWOT) when other Democrats were openly concerned about Bush’s cowboy diplomacy.

And Bill? He pretty much took a hands-off approach until the wingnuts started claiming that 9/11 was all his fault. Then he spoke his mind.

There was really very little public criticism from either of the Clintons toward Bush until later into his term (and after he invaded Iraq).

Whereas the Cheneys and all their sycophants have been hammering on President Obama without letup from Day One.

    There’s really no comparison.

ANYONE wanting America to succeed would do that.

Everyone gave Bush a chance. Democrats rallied around him in congress. The people rallied for him. Everyone stood behind George W Bush once the country was in trouble. Post 911 Bush enjoyed unfettered support across the board, with the country coming together as one to help this fledgling President succeed.

NO ONE on the right however has returned that support to President Obama, proving once and for all that the right wing does not care about America and are not good Americans.

We’re in two wars and struggling against economic collapse.

GOOD Americans would support this President.

CHENEY: In order to survive as a nation, our President can’t function as a disinterested international arbitrator. He can’t attempt to stand above America and our enemies. In other words, America needs a commander in chief, not a global community organizer

Say what? Speak up, Lizard girl, speak up.

I don’t recall that anyone has announced an appointment of our President to “disinterested international arbitrator”. You have a subject-object problem here anyway, along with a dependent-independent clause issue. “In order to survive as a nation” what? How does that tap into “our President can’t function as…”. If you stop for a second and think, that whole effing sentence makes no sense.

His commander-in-chiefliness seems adequate to me. His sidekick at DOD and the Chief of the Joint Chiefs don’t seem to be spending all their time skulking around the office playing Wdc games, but that’s somewhat beside the point. Given the number of international issues in front of us, maybe we do need a global community organizer; someone who can get other national leaders on board and in sync with us, rather than just doing the bullying my-way-or-the-highway BS that the Shrub was inclined to, let alone whatever kind of thuggery yo’ daddy favors.

And WTF do you mean by that “He can’t attempt to stand above America” crap. He’s the first citizen, primus inter pares, we elected him to stand above us all for four years – he’s the head of state and head of government. He’d damned well better stand there above us and follow through on the better, more exemplary leader he promised to be. After all, we just had four years of what the Shrub and yo’ daddy thought was leadership; bullying, hiding, torturing, disappearing, etc. It was damned well time for a change.

Would you please return to the crawl space under your rock? And stay there.

Who EXACTLY is Liz Cheney? Did she graduate from college? Work in govt? Suckle Chimpy in the Oval office? I guess ya gotta do something when oure fathers a reptilian cockroach-the most reviled creature in America!

  100. Robt says:

Liz Cheney is still in need of mental health care. Her father (authoritarian complex is terminally complicated.

  101. 1984 says:

Unbelievable. Does she not know who her father is?

  102. bsober says:

You know Liz we don’t need a community organizer we need a strong world leader and that’s what I voted for in the last election. I frankly got tired and at times very concerned at how your lying douche bag father and his cronies (”Lets have a war and get RICHER”) thought they could do whatever they pleased, and to hell with the international community If someone like myself could see through their bullshit (my own deductions, not MSNBC) don’t you think that highly educated leaders of other countries could also? Your father was and is absolutely the scorn of the civilized world. What you and other conservatives want is to have someone to push the world around. After a while an old saying from the street comes to mind. “Respect is a good thing, but if you are feared, NOW YOUVE GOT A PROBLEM!”

  103. Uncle Ho says:

    conservative guy says:

Just for the record: BUSH WAS NOT ELECTED! Chimpy was SELECTED by 5 judicial activists on SCOTUS making law from the bench.

Democracy was hijacked by 5 partisan hacks. Worst SCOTUS decision since Dred Scott

  104. lvdragonlady says:

Sweetie, we prefer the community organizer to your lying, cheating, backstabbing, constitution breaking, warmongering father and the rest of his cronies.

  105. jusasoldier says:

    conservative guy says:

Waynebro,I guess you haven’t listened to Jimmy Carter much.

Hopefully Obama will be a one term president like the worst president ever, Jimmy Carter.

obviously you’re insane…or didn’t you notice the 2 wars we’re fighting…one unprovoked…the economy….the deficit….the city that still has not been rebuilt after 4 years…the corporate greed running amuck….and the tax cuts for the wealthiest few…now remind me again how Bush isn’t considered the worst president in U.S. history? I’ll be waiting….NOT
