Last week, Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA) joined other Republican House members to engage in lengthy, repetitive speeches droning on about why they believe the Recovery Act has been a failure. Per instructions given by Republican Leader Rep. John Boehner (R-OH), Republicans have been tasked with slamming the stimulus and asking “Where are the jobs?” as part of a “floor game” maneuver to slow down reform on other issues, especially health care.
On July 28th, Kingston’s press office fired off two releases bragging about a $106,901 grant for the Alma Police Department and a $138,286 grant for the Jesup Police Department in Georgia. These grants, distributed by the Department of Justice for the “hiring of new police officers, to combat violence against women, and to fight Internet crimes against children,” were fully-funded by President Obama’s Recovery Act. Nonetheless, Kingston took credit for them, calling the funds “local initiatives” unrelated to the policies set forth in Washington and a type of “tax relief” for local communities:
“We’ve seen from experience that local initiatives go a lot further toward solving local problems that policies set in Washington. This funding will provide tax relief by savings local tax dollars and, under the stewardship of Chief Livingston, will go a long way to fight crime more effectively through community policing.”
On July 28th, the same day he took credit for jobs created by the Recovery Act, Kingston took to the floor to slam Obama and the Recovery Act:
KINGSTON: Mr. President, where’s the stimulus package? Where are the jobs? [...] Mr. Speaker, this is not the change the folks in Coffee County, Georgia, can use. They need jobs.
Watch it:
Even though Kingston vigorously opposed and voted against the Recovery Act, this is not the first time he has boasted about stimulus funds for his district. In June, Kingston announced $2,707,777 in community block grant funding for the city of Savannah. Although he did not acknowledge that most of the funds came directly from the Recovery Act, Kingston declared them to be “even more important during this tough economic period.” Of the money Kingston announced, $1,121,523 came from the HPRP program enabled by the Recovery Act, and at least $733,133 was also allocated by the Recovery Act.
Republicans seem to have a hard time connecting dots. In this case, Rep. Kingston cannot seem to connect the dots between the Recovery Act and the Recovery Act.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:34 pmThis guy has always been crazy as a four peckered billy goat. He is absolutely certifiable.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:34 pmAll In A Day’s Work: Rep. Kingston Smears The Stimulus On TV, Takes Credit For Stimulus Jobs In His District
– - Kingston has always been my favorite dumbass cracker Congressman. Someday, Kenneth from 30 Rock will portray him on screen and it will be dead-on.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:36 pmKingston = hypocrite
August 4th, 2009 at 2:37 pmWhy are there so many terminally insane elected Republicans?
Could their constituents really be such inbred-rubes?
Most definitely!
August 4th, 2009 at 2:37 pmLike most Republicans, Rep Kingston has a problem with telling the truth. They hate doing it.

Gotta wonder if he adds sugar to his Hypocrisy Oats in the morning.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:41 pmAll this two faced moron needs is one more face to be the Kingston Trio.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:43 pmIs that whine leftover from your tea party, Rep. Kingston?
August 4th, 2009 at 2:48 pmWhy so many continue to support these hypocrites is beyond me! They continue to vote against things and then turn around and act as if they were instrumental in getting the benefits. It amazes me how their supporters know they are lying but support them in their lying ways all for the sake of feeling they are better than other Americans. Shameful.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:49 pmWhat these Republican knuckleheads do not understand is that the Bush bailouts were by far worse than Obama’s bailout.
Obama’s bailout may further endanger the stability of the U.S. dollar, but I think the Congress prior to Obama irreversably destroyed the U.S. dollar.
At least Obama’s bailout is going to the people, where the Bush bailout vaporized under the secrecy of the Federal Reserve Bank. The wealthy elite pocketed most of this money, we paid for their ridiculous mistakes.
As soon as China and Japan start dumping our currency, which has already begun, the U.S. economy will go into a depression far worse than the depression we are currently witnessing.
Neoconservatives make me sick.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:50 pmAugust 4th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
And this is a continuation of stupidity by the Party of No: Criticize the President’s Recovery Act, vote no, criticize the President on jobs, sneak and take the money and take credit.
What these knucklehead lawmakers don’t get is that their votes were recorded and posted Library of Congress and Senate website. This is all political theatre for the Party of No and their no votes, smears, and spin on issues that mattered the most for the people in their state will come back to bite them in 2010.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:51 pmWhat I truly fear is the good ol’ folks in his district are uninformed enough to take what he says at face value.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:52 pmRepublican hypocricy has become about as natural to them as corporate @ss licking. Unfortunately for Americans their m.o. has been to the detriment of badly needed change in this Country. The Republican tactic, now adopted by Blue Dogs, is to fight needed legislation, water the bill down to the point of being toothless, obstruct and delay as long as possible, vote against the bill after gaining huge concessions in the name of bi-partisanship, then run home to your constituents and brag about all the crap that you got into the bill (or stripped from the bill as the case may be). Democratic leadership needs to stop trying to deal with these anti-American regressives and strip the Blue Dogs from every commitee chair that they hold. Spay the effing Blue Dogs and ignore the whining of the Repubs as they will never deal in good faith as long as they are owned by corporations. IMO if you are receiving financial backing from the healthcare sector for example, then you cannot sit on a commitee writing healthcare legislation. Conflict of interest on the highest scale, but it seems to be the name of the game in DC unfortunately. Just look at all the money Baucus has taken in by the healthcare industry due to the simple fact that he chairs an influential commitee.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:53 pmPoliticians have always **ahem** played politics.
But I was kind of hoping that having YouTube at hand would start holding them accountable for what they say.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:54 pmExcuse my bad language, but Rep. Kingston is a $%&^#$@$!@$@#.
Spare us the rantings of these #$%$%&$%^W#$s!!!!!
August 4th, 2009 at 2:56 pmDon’t be silly MapleStreet, even our fine President said troops out in 6 months followed by 13 months, followed by 23 months.
They just don’t care. They don’t even care when the tape is played back to them. That shows you how mindless we have all gotten if we keep voting them in. The mainstream media has so brainwashed everybody that it is frightening.
How else could Bush and Cheney get reelected? If it were not for stupidity and brainwashing of the public, this would be impossible.
August 4th, 2009 at 2:58 pmScrew bipartisanship……
August 4th, 2009 at 2:59 pmBut as we all know by now
IOKIYR
August 4th, 2009 at 3:00 pmI think it’s because they strive so hard to NOT connect the dots.
… unless, of course, those dots are the President’s birth and a fake Kenyan birth certificate. THOSE dots, they can connect.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:01 pmHow do you equate the adjusting campaign rhetoric to realities on the ground to outright lies like the republicans?
You have to reset your meters to the real world my friend.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:02 pmSP Biloxi, I wish they were the party of NO, when the Patriot Act was on the table and the Bush Bailout and the most recent bill (can’t remember the number) which allows Pharmaceutical companies to poison us with tainted vaccine and be immune from law suit and prosecution.
Where was the party of NO then? Why didn’t more Dems vote NO for that matter? WTF is going on with Congress?
August 4th, 2009 at 3:03 pmSo i like to say this recovery act is not working, However I want you to know that this money we are getting and passing around is not really recovery act money. Its money we the Repugs got for you. yea thats the ticket
August 4th, 2009 at 3:04 pmI don’t equate it…no comparison was made, Mr. Fred the Belligerent. It’s just that if a good man like Obama fibs now and again and doesn’t care, why should a Neocon turd care?
August 4th, 2009 at 3:04 pmOT –
it’s also Helen Thomas’ birthday!
President Obama gave her cupcakes!
Happy Birthday, Helen Thomas!
August 4th, 2009 at 3:06 pmI have to assume that you are either not serious or you just woke up. Where were you when bush et al was using the threat of terrorism to scare the country into bending to his will?
Where were you when bush threatened martial law if we didn’t bend to his will?
August 4th, 2009 at 3:07 pmChanging position to adjust to the realities he faces is not fibbing as you put it.
Doing all you can to destroy a stimulus and then taking credit for it while lying and saying it isn’t from the fed is just lying.
You absolutly did equate it.

Jack, I know this place is funded by the Democratic Party and George Soros and I expect the writing to point out all the wrongdoings of the Republicans, while ignoring Democratic mistakes. I am amazed at the doublethink that goes on when we do something uncool.
We are human and can admit we make mistakes. That is the problem with idolizing any individual.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:16 pmRepukes are such vile, despicable, digusting creatures.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:16 pmThe sad thing is, the people of Georgia probably have no idea it is stimulus money. The Repugs who vote for imbelcile think that God or Jebus sent him the money because they are so righteous.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:17 pmJack all kidding aside, who did you want to win during the primary?
August 4th, 2009 at 3:17 pmI meant disgusting.

I was torn between Gravel, Kucinich and Dodd. I never supported the Party globalists, Clinton, Obama, Edwards. I was unsure about Richardson.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:21 pmThis tells alot about the voters in Rep. Kingston’s district. Only a stupid person would listen to his bull. Rep. Kingston voted against the Stimulus Bill now says he got the job for his district well it worked for 8 years. This proves why the US is ranked so low in Education and why it’s dropping lower fast.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:24 pmAt least I don’t parade as a liberal when I’m actually a rightie like you.
Does sneaky and lying just come to you guys genetically or do you develop it?
You will never worry about where I stand. You on the other hand…..think you are smart enough to game good people.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:24 pmJack,
I liked Richardson at first. I ultimately ended up hoping Gravel or Kucinich would get the nomination.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:25 pmWe call that votin republican.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:26 pmAll in 1/2 a day’s work: GO BILL!!!!
August 4th, 2009 at 3:26 pmCB_Brooklyn
Your “open mind” is full of hot air.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:28 pmHey Jack, isn’t a rightie an Anarchist and a leftie either a Communist, National Socialist or Socialist?
Does that make me a “middie”?
August 4th, 2009 at 3:29 pmI thought Gravel and Kucinich were Democrats? Man I have been seriously misinformed!!!
Jack, Was George Bush a Republican or Democrat?
August 4th, 2009 at 3:30 pmMegaloptera McWars says:
Yeah, I just saw that news as well. That is wonderful news! Thanks Pres. Clinton. He still rocks!
August 4th, 2009 at 3:32 pmdsjz59, I suppose so if we Liberals call ourselves “middies” we might get confused as being Naval Academy students.
I’ve been misinformed too! I could have sworn I was voting in the Democratic Primary when I voted for Kucinich! Maybe I was at the Republican Primary? But it’s odd, I remember Obama’s name there too…
I think George W. Bush is a Republican, but we better ask Fred to make sure. Fred knows everything.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:34 pmI know what yer saying Jack…I used to think the sky was blue until I met Fred.
Fred does know everything. Do you think he is the wizard?
August 4th, 2009 at 3:37 pmPointing out Republican hypocrites is like pointing out blades of grass on the Washington Mall.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:38 pmdsjz59
Jacktheliberal
I know two right wing trolls when I see them. Just pizzes you off that you are so transparent doesnt’ it?
August 4th, 2009 at 3:43 pmdsjz59,
Maybe he is the wizard? If we are nice maybe we can get an audience with him? I dunno but did voting for Kucinich and Obama jeopardize my right wing troll membership?
I’m scared. What does pizzes mean?
August 4th, 2009 at 3:48 pmIf it were not for untruths, the rethuglican party would never have anything to say.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:53 pmI think he meant that he will grant us the power of invisibility and give us pizza. He is after all the wizard. The wizard can do anything.
I don’t think you need to keep your right wing troll membership intact if you are good friends with the wizard you have enough clout.
Do you think we ought to tell Fred that Kucinich, Gravel and Dodd are Democrats? I don’t want to upset the wizard.
August 4th, 2009 at 3:55 pmdsjz59 and Jacktheliberal,
You two are as relentless as you are comical. Thanks for the entertainment, if we digress from discussing serious topics there may as well be entertainment value and humor.
Normally I would defend the poor sap who gets the brunt of treatment like this, but Fred had it coming
August 4th, 2009 at 4:01 pmThat’s ok TL, I’m used to dealing with adolescents.
August 4th, 2009 at 4:21 pmTo the Republicans in his district, he did a doubly good job. He upheld their cherished conservative principles by condemning big government spending, while getting lots of money to help their community at the same time!
August 4th, 2009 at 4:44 pmI would hope the local Dem party would call attention to these type of lies so that the Republicans feel more discomfort, particularly when they run for reelection.
August 4th, 2009 at 4:52 pmEven John McCain is acknowledging that the stimulus is working. His complaint is simply that it’s costing too much money, apparently confusing the Bush TARP plan with the stimulus. Can’t this guy at least follow McCain’s lead?
August 4th, 2009 at 4:52 pmI opened CB’s first comment when it was at -17. I read it, then I gave it another down vote.
I wouldn’t want to be accused of not being open-minded.
August 4th, 2009 at 6:31 pmThese Republicans love to grab the stimulus money, that they hate so much, with both hands. One hand for each face.
August 4th, 2009 at 7:01 pmI smell C Street.
August 5th, 2009 at 12:02 amEach time that I hear a GOP complain about the “where is the stimulus”, I go to the Recovery.org website and click on the STATE if the legislator. There you can see the TOTAL amount appropriated to the state, the amount that has been sent to the state and the amount released by the state. Although the information may be skewed because of reporting times by the STATE, it is important to note, that STATE’s can (and have) been dragging their feet in submitting plans to the US GOV. Here in TX, Perry sent Education Funding requests in JULY, so no wonder funds haven’t been spent.
August 5th, 2009 at 1:41 pmSo for a State Representative to complain that this is the national government’s snafu, they should be looking at the own State legislator’s. In Georgia, the STATE has only release 1/3 of funds http://www.recovery.gov/?q=content/available-amount-program&state=GA and tracking of funds allocated in GA…you must need a hound dog, as I could not locate it on their website.
