Last week, Fox News host Glenn Beck called President Obama a “racist” with a “a deep-seated hatred for white people.” In response, ColorOfChange called on its members to tell Beck’s advertisers to drop his show over his race-baiting. ColorOfChange announced today that three advertisers have said that they are dropping Beck:
Three companies who run ads during Glenn Beck — NexisLexis-owned Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance — today distanced themselves from Beck. LexisNexis has pulled its advertising from Beck and says it has no plans to advertise on the program in the future. Both Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance called the Beck advertising placements an error that they would correct.
The decision by the three companies comes as over 45,000 ColorofChange.org members call on advertisers to pull their ads from Glenn Beck after the controversial news host called President Obama a “racist” who “has a deep-seated hatred for white people” on “Fox & Friends” last week.

August 6th, 2009 at 2:04 pmAs the commercial says, now that’s progressive! Kudos to these advertisers for doing the right thing!
August 6th, 2009 at 2:05 pmRepublicans should LOVE this new development. It’s the “free market” working!
August 6th, 2009 at 2:05 pmJust Three advertisers?
Who are his other advertisers Bob’s Klan hat emporium and Daves Nazi wear?
August 6th, 2009 at 2:06 pmLooking forward to the first troll who claims “leftists trying Nazi censorship” on this development…
August 6th, 2009 at 2:06 pmThe irony of someone preaching that unrestricted markets are self-correcting and will take care of all of our ills being targeted by that same market is beyond ironic.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:07 pmNow THERE’S your free market at work, trolls.
Advertisers are free to prevent lunatics from damaging their product image.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:07 pmWhat a sad commentary on the state of things that those who provide Beck with air time, radio or TV, must be hit in the wallet to make them think twice about allowing this unhinged, unstable, hate-filled racist a national platform to spout his idiocy.
But whatever works!
PEACE

August 6th, 2009 at 2:08 pmAs long as Glenn Beck has his gold supplier (Goldline), he doesn’t care who he loses.
Then again, if he loses enough advertisers, he just might have to resort back to infiltrating DailyKos’s site.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:09 pmDon’t get too excited, there will be plenty of other numb-nuts willing to cast in with BECKY and harvest those Reichwing dollars.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:11 pmGOOD! May Beck lose more ads! I knew I made the right decision when I switched to Progressive! YEAH!
August 6th, 2009 at 2:11 pmThat is part of the problem of impersonality in business – people look to the most profitable arrangement as the primary or sole consideration. Many people don’t know and don’t care who is driving viewers, listeners, or hits to their ads, just as long as sales are up.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:12 pmIn light of the fact that News Corporation is now losing money, this is huge. Could it be that Fox Noise needs some less insane people to put on the air?
August 6th, 2009 at 2:12 pmI hope this is only the beginning.
Repugsniscum have to appreciate the advertisers exercising their prerogatives in the marketplace.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:13 pmAdvertisers leave;
August 6th, 2009 at 2:14 pmGlenn against the wall, aghast;
Doll heads drop in pants
What are these guys trying to do to Beck, make him cry?
YYYYYYYESSSSSSSS!
August 6th, 2009 at 2:17 pmRupert is probably getting pi**ed about the loss of advertising revenue.
He could get new big pharma sponsors for the notorious foot in mouth (and ass) disease.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:18 pmSince I refuse to tune in Fux noise for ANY reason, I have no idea who their sponsors are. Is there a way to find this out without tuning in? If not, I’ll just stay in the dark because I’ll NEVER turn my dial to the network of hate and racism.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:18 pmAnyone keeping a running list of “Faux”advertisers? I would love to help ratchet up the pressure.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:19 pmYES YES YES There is hope for us all. now if we can get them to start pulling advertising off of the other idiots shows as well.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:20 pmWasn’t it K.O. who said last night that Murdoch’s Newscorp went from 1 billion profit to 200 million losses in the last year? hahahahahahahahahaha
August 6th, 2009 at 2:20 pmAs an avid Beck watcher. The commercials that air on Fox during his slot generally have a crazy tint that I don’t see in other programming. A conserva-rag was offering an emergency radio free with subscription. They even appealed to ‘terror! terror!’ to sell subscriptions / cheap radios.
There was even, I kid you not, G. Gordon Liddy trying to get me to buy gold. It’s like a parallel universe of crazy.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:20 pmSure is taking Watchpuppy a long time to get over here. He must still be back on the Mara Liasson thread claiming that destroying inefficient automobile engines is a crime against humanity on the scale of the Katrina response.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:20 pm“The Barbie Museum??”
Not to mention the Umbrella Corporation located in beautiful raccon city.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:21 pmMurdoch’s wallet drives his policy. The man is a disciple of the dollar.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:21 pmSomeone should call the former Veep, and let him know this is what actual “last throes” look like.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:24 pmI have blocked FOX and CNN on my cable box and I cant tell you how good it feels. When I’m channel surfing and I hit those channels and it asks for a password I effin love it. You should all try it, no more looking just to see what they’re reporting because you know its BS, so just block them.
3 advertisers is a start, but like AIO says for every one who drops him there will be another chomping at the bit to cash in on some of that hatred.

It may take a long time, but eventually these corporations keep hearing the same complaints from different groups and hopefully ad revenues will decrease…for this once, I am for the free market…choking out rieghtwing blowholes…

I agree with you both, However went new ones come on then we all know what corps not to use. We just need to keep putting pressure on.
As we are fighting the good fight while they fight the wrong and bad fight.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:34 pmThree companies who
This is one of my pet peeves. Actually, it’s more than that – it goes to the very heart of political ideology today.
Companies are NOT PEOPLE. The correct phrase is “three companies which…”. Companies should not be treated as people, have “rights” of people. This attitude of companies as people has given us lobbyists, corporate run campaigns, corporate protection policies, etc.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:36 pmGlenn Beck is a psychotic grifter and belongs in Bellevue Hospital!
No offense to grifters!!
August 6th, 2009 at 2:36 pmI’m a little late with this list, but here are more of Beck’s advertisers.
We all need to contact them and ask that they stop supporting the dessimination of lies, hatred and racism.
Hope this helps.

August 6th, 2009 at 2:47 pmDo I detect a turn in corporate America away from the Republican Party? Are the corporations realizing that wacky Republican behavior is not good for business, that a corporate image is injured by being associated with a preacher of hate and fear? When a network touts a town hall lout in a dirty T-shirt who sits a meeting with a Congressman, and shouts “your lying” repeatedly without even listening to what is trying to be said, and then goes to the commercial, I have to believe that the ad exec that placed that ad is thinking “thats not out target audience”.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:52 pmThis comment has been voted down. Click to read.
Thanks for filling me in TP on the colorofchange. I just went and added my voice. Let’s drive Beck off the air.

I sure am glad Progressive Insurance dropped Beck..I am so sick of those commercials with that goofy broad and stupid script I could puke. It is obvious why Progressive Insurance is so expensive they hammer and hammer day after day all damn day long on all channels with their stupid commercials.
What’s the name of that other insurance company, the one that uses a gekko? Gee, they must not be interested in business, since I hardly ever see their commercials.
You poor, stripped tool.

August 6th, 2009 at 2:59 pmRIGHT F’N ON!!!
About time some corporations showed some responsibility about content on the shows their commercials are aired on.
If Corporations really had any spine at all they would…
….ALL PULL THEIR ADS FROM FOX PROPAGANDA.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:03 pmThe Barbie museum is a museum a family, headed by Jon Lovitz, is taken to by their dad thinking it’s the Barbie (doll) museum, but it’s not. It’s the Klaus Barbie museum – funny stuff, but I forget the name of the movie.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:04 pmInteresting sponsor list spencer’s mom. It includes two bankrupt auto makers which still exist solely because of Obama policies and Walmart, which allegedly backs health care reform. Makes you wonder.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:05 pmThis is the message I sent GM off the list of Beck advertisers referenced above:
Your corporate image is being tarnished by your advertising on Glen Beck and Fox News. Being associated with a network that tells outrageous lies and glorifies hate and racism, is not the image that your company or any other should find an acceptable. Investing your advertising dollars in such a manner seems less than wise. By the way I am thinking of buying one of your cars. Thanks.
I plan on sending to other companies too, I am not really thinking of buying a GM car.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:07 pmFrom the men-of-few-words-department: Outstanding.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:25 pmProctor and Gamble is a big loss for Beck, considering all the brands they own.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:29 pmFor every one that withdraws, there’s five more in line to fill the void. RC Cola? Moon Pies? Goody’s Powders?
There’ll be no lack of replacements…
August 6th, 2009 at 3:34 pmGlenn, have you considered suicide? If you decide to end it all, don’t do it by driving into a tree…the airbags will probably spare you, and the tree will be unnecessarily damaged. Just sit in your garage with the engine running, and all that evil socialism, fascism, and government control will quietly and peacefully fade away. No more nightmares, Glenn. No more pain of alcoholism or drug addiction. And think of the ratings you’ll get when Fox has the exclusive coverage of the body recovery! Nite nite, Glann!
August 6th, 2009 at 3:38 pmDoes anyone know who his other advertisers are?
August 6th, 2009 at 3:49 pmMaybe we could send them a quick e-mail to follow suit.

August 6th, 2009 at 4:01 pmGlenn Beck is a big ol’ bag of crazy.
August 6th, 2009 at 4:03 pmI wrote three of the advertisers a personal email. Kraft, Campbell’s and Nestle’.
Kraft gave the best answer. I made it clear I cannot buy their product and thus use my money to enable Beck. I was polite.
August 6th, 2009 at 4:08 pmI don’t think Campbell’s even cared. They all blamed a third party, bundled advertising.
I will write again if need be.
.
I’ve heard of a sh!t projector…
… And Beck takes first prize.

August 6th, 2009 at 4:19 pmSee, what the republicans/conservatives don’t realize is that progressives use methods/tactics that hit them in their pocketbooks. There truly is strength in numbers. I’ve signed all of the boycott lists for Beck that I can get my hands on and will continue to do so.
August 6th, 2009 at 4:37 pmThis is the best news I’ve heard in a long, long time. Why have I never heard of the Color of Change group, I wonder?
August 6th, 2009 at 5:02 pmBe racist, arrogant and mean. Pay!

August 6th, 2009 at 5:19 pmSometimes racists say asinine things like, “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”
Many times real racists are just those who are always accusing others as being racist.
All of the time I’d pretty much like to choke the living shit out of anyone and everyone that uses the f’n term for whatever reason! My suggested response to being called racist? Eat me, mfer!

It’s getting worse. The other day Beck made a reference to poisoning Nancy Pelosi in her wine. There is nothing he will not say, no vicious and inciting comment he will not make. And yet family oriented companies like Kellogs, Nestles, and Kraft Foods continue to buy ad time around his show. One day it will be too late. Some nut will follow his psychotic advice and people will be hurt.
August 7th, 2009 at 10:05 amNone of the advertisers seem to be verifying that they have pulled their advertising. None. Progressive Insurance, however, is a Democrat-dominated company, and gives 100% of its campaign contributions to the Democratic Party, so I don’t doubt it. In fact, why did they advertise on Glenn Beck’s show in the first place?
August 12th, 2009 at 3:12 pmI always wonder why conservatives have the courage to debate liberals on their programs, but our liberal commentators have no such courage.
Instead, Olbermann and Matthews ask their liberal guests to speculate on what a named conservative would say on a particular subject. When I asked an MSNBC staff member why they don’t just invite the named conservative on the show, one explained that Olbermann has an aversion to confrontation dating back to a brain injury he suffered on a New York subway. (He also can’t drive a car because of it)
August 12th, 2009 at 3:16 pmI guess believing a boycott is (a) actually going on or (b) is/will be effective makes liberals feel less hopeless. There is much to be said for that, I think. Frankly, I think meanwhile most Democrat congressmen are busy deciding what shade of “white” their flags should be when they raise them over health care.
