VIDEO: Right-Wing Rage Cultivated At McCain-Palin Rallies Being Harnessed To Oppose Obama’s Agenda Today

Yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) scolded the recent angry disruptions at congressional town halls on his twitter feed. While McCain’s opposition to the behavior of right-wing activists is a welcome development, the wave of unfounded, anti-Obama hate found legitimacy through the McCain Presidential campaign last year.

Rather than talking about health care or the economy, once Sarah Palin joined the McCain ticket, calling into question the legitimacy and patriotism of Obama became a central message of the campaign. And with this line of rhetoric, anger directed at Obama found a venue at McCain rallies. To divert attention away from policy issues, Palin focused her attention on decrying Obama’s alleged ties to the “unrepentant terrorist” Bill Ayers. Palin’s denunciations of Obama were met with loud cries of “kill him!” Instead of immediately clamping down on these calls to violence and racial slurs featured at campaign events, the McCain campaign searched for ways to harness them — notably, for example, embracing the mentally ill Ashley Todd, who faked a racially-motivated political attack.

McCain himself was booed when he described Obama as a “decent man” and denied claims that he is an “Arab.” Despite this incident and many others, the McCain campaign maintained its tacit approval by remaining largely quiet. This right-wing hate, being harnessed by lobbyists-run organizations and the GOP, is now on full display at congressional town halls. Progressive Media has compiled a video on this phenomenon:

Rather than heed McCain’s responsible twitter message, Republicans are actively supporting the wild disruptions at town halls.

McIIIrd was absolutely certain that Sarah Palin was the best possible candidate for Vice President of the United States.

That speaks volumes to his mental acuity.

Democrats slam town-hall protests as ‘phony’
He went on to suggest that Republicans are taking their cues from television talk-show host Glenn Beck of Fox News, who has encouraged the protests.

“They’re taking their cues from talk-show hosts, Internet rumor-mongers and insurance rackets,” said Reid. “We take our cues from the people in our states and the people in our counties that have concerns in this legislation.”

the worst part of the truths mentioned above is that now the hate is manifesting itself in actions.

birther taking out a Holocaust museum guard, mother of 3 scouting out an army base with guns in her car, PA cops murdered by 2nd amendment nut case….

This is moving into dangerous incitement territory by the ilk of Fox and politicians who will take any route to justify their end goals.

  6. Spencer's mom says:

For decades, responsible parents, teachers, police and others in positions of authority and prominence have been teaching our youth that racism is wrong, even if some of those doing the teaching still held some deeply-rooted feelings to the contrary.

Now, one of the two most prominent national parties has decided that not only is racism and bigotry a good thing, it needs to be nurtured, given a national stage, and respected as “free speech”.

These are more “teachable moments” for those of us with brains and respect for other human beings. I tell my kid that the only thing I hate is hatred itself.

This is not going to end well for the GNOP, and even worse for those who are injured or killed by this evil genie they’ve let out of the lamp.

    PEACE

Instead of tweeting he should get his old ass up in front of the TV cameras and say this to his colleagues and “followers”, but he wont, because he’s full of it or he already forgot what he was talking about.

McCain has had a wild hair up his butt for some time. The kind of jock community he comes out of isn’t really known for long term judgement and rational thought; the saying in his set is “There are no old, bold pilots.” and guess what? None of them want to be old, they just wannabe bold. They’re good at the snap shot, the slap shot, and the hair trigger, but they’re never around for the consequences. Ergo, when their team starts playing with fire, they’re not around to pick up the pieces afterward, and they don’t see why anyone is so concerned. McCain learned a little bit when he got shot down and imprisoned, but you can be sure that he took just as many wrong lessons away from the experience as right ones.

Of course, Palin is just a flatout demagogue who’ll do anything to play to the audience and fire them up against whatever she thinks the opposition is; her motto is probably, “A lie in the service of a lynch mob is God’s own truth.”

The rePublicrites were stupid enough to allow the two of them together and to set their dogs loose.

This craziness won’t damp down for some time, but if anyone gets hurt, there ought to be hell to pay.

  9. Mugsy says:

These angry Right-wing mobs we see today are truly Sarah Palin’s legacy.

I try to keep it in perspective.. the crazy ones we see screeching are a small % of the American people..unfortunately they make the most noise, but the bark is louder than the bite. Inciting the few dangerous nutters is of course more problematic, but of course they will be shocked and horrified when someone get shot or lynched, but it is not thier fault. As*clowns.

Wow, I had no idea watchpup was supportive of the anti-war protesters’ “right to protest” and decried the 1800 arrests at the 2004 Republican National Convention.

Especially when 90% of those arrested had their charges dropped.

  19. amish_edison says:

I set the over/under regarding the inevitable, predictable, fear/ignorance/racism-based impending violence from right-wing sheeple in some form at November 1st.

It will most likely happen sooner if healthcare gets passed (or when Sotomayor gets approved to the SCOTUS) despite the fact that the majority of these sheeple will actually benefit greatly from the very legislation they are told to oppose. Pretty pathetic actually.

Critical thinking is obviously of no value to conservative voters. Why think for yourself when you can just blindly follow corporate water-carrying millionaires posing as concerned average joes.

  20. pags2 says:

McCain had an opportunity to become a true statesman and help change the direction of the nasty politics that has gripped the Republican party. He chose not to and now he is relegated to a minor role in the Republican party and Congress. If he had stepped up after the election and spoke up against the personal attacks, he would have commanded respect from people from all sides of the political spectrum. He did not need to win the Presidency to become a great leader; all he had to do was act like one.

  21. tombaker says:

puppy – no one said they can’t protest.

what they shouldn’t do is shout down the democratic process.

    but that’s what they’re doing.

    because they have no class.

    and know they can’t win.

  22. tombaker says:

during the Bush years, people were arrested for wearing the wrong T-Shirt.

now you a-holes expect to get a free pass to hijack proceedings and shut them down??

don’t EVEN make comparisons – it shows how juvenile you really are.

  23. Spencer's mom says:

Ah, I see our little troll brigade is going through and voting down everyone’s posts again.

Reminds me of a 4-year-old who refuses to poop in the potty, who will hold it in for days until someone gives in, puts the brat in a diaper and let’s him go squat behind the sofa for a minute. Little acts of defiance and a need to feel some level of control.

I suspect these little feces fighters probably grow up to be Republicans.

    PEACE

  24. StLuke says:

    Watchdog,

What these “protesters” are doing is not simply expressing opposition to a government policy. They interupt by screaming at those who are trying to present their own views. This behavior does not encourage the free flow of ideas that represents true democracy. If you have to bully and harrass to get your point accross, perhaps your point is weak.

  25. tombaker says:

    puppy’s right

let the system do its job

have cops taser all the righty screamers that show up at townhalls

  26. Spencer's mom says:

pags2 @22, you are so right. McCain didn’t have to win the presidency to regain respect by Dems and Indies. His words and actions could have won back those who loved him in 2000, and even some converts to McCainism.

Instead, he’s gone all in with the WhiteWingers. Time for Gramps to retire.

    PEACE

  27. Bob says:

Harnessing the power of the losing campaign might not be the best stradegy. It’s already been proven (by the election) that the nutballs at those rallies are in the minority.

If the bratty minority get their way, it’s just rewarding bad behavior.

  28. A Patriotic Anopheles Acting says:

cur, what you willfully ignore is the simple fact that these Clown Hallbaggers aren’t interested in serious discussion. They are there with the sole intention to be loud, disrupt and halt actual discussion between local residents and their elected officials. These meetings are an opportunity for local citizens to obtain information about the bill. It doesn’t matter if you are for it or against it, the purpose is discussion. If they want to form a protest then fine, take it OUTSIDE of the meeting. There are people on both sides that come to these meetings for answers and to voice legitimate concerns. As a LIV I don’t expect you to understand or even care but the fact is that being bussed in from another district with your tea bagger posse with the intention of stifling this forum is about as un-American and anti-democratic as you can get (short of commiting murder for your political beliefs which these fanatics seem about half a step away from). I don’t recall you complaining during the Bush Administration when town hall attenders were vetted and their questions pre-screened. Or when a meeting attendee was arrested for silently holding up an anti-Bush sign, or the woman escorted out for having a Kerry bumper sticker on her car, or the couple who were removed for wearing anti-Bush t-shirts. Or the man who was arrested for speaking his mind to Dick Cheney. Now those are direct examples of the concerns you post about. This on the other hand is nothing more than a pack of mostly retired tea baggers who are on medicaid, don’t even have the common sense to know that it is a gov’t run system, and want to stifle debate on this issue as they have been instructed to by lobby groups, Right Wing pundits and the Healthcare Industry. God you are the stupidest dog I’ve ever met! I take that back, cur. You’re most likely not stupid, just pleasing your masters by being a good submissive little mutt with your cut and paste bullshit from some of the most fact-challenged resources available to any idiot with a computer and a teevee. Go play in traffic…

  29. A Patriotic Anopheles Acting says:

Uh-oh, more heads exploding from the Right. Sotomayor was confirmed today with a vote of 68-31!

  30. GregM says:

Today will be another crushing day for the Obama haters when judge Sotomayor gets confirmed. The teabaggers can’t stop progress so their frustration is boiling over. Get out the popcorn and enjoy the show as the republicant party implodes.

  31. LizCoro says:

And of the 20 million of the Christian right, as opposed to the 300 million American population, he states:

“It’s not a big percentage, it’s just a loud percentage. This is the drunk on the subway making all the trouble at the end of the car for all the people on the subway. There’s a hundred decent citizens in there and there’s one ass at the front end who is molesting women. That’s the Republican party now in terms of the loud part.”

Disrupting public meetings is NOT. Sorry MORON. You ignorant wingnuts NEVER have a real understanding of what free speech is.

  40. EugeneDebs says:

    kwsventures says:

You MORONS dont have any idea what free speech is. They were told to DISRUPT EARLY, to NOT engage in intelligent debate. That is NOT about free speech it is about STOPPING a democratic excercise of free speech. IF they were quietly waiting their turn and giving their opinion I would be right there with you but not only are they NOT doing that it isnt even their intention. So your attempt at a point is a strawman irrelevant to this discussion. There is NO free speech right to disrupt public meetings

  52. labman57 says:

This is exactly the type of hatred that McCain and Palin embraced and encouraged during the 2008 campaign. Their negative rhetoric helped stoke the fires of racism and served to embolden low-lifes to express their bigotry with acts of violence.

There is a difference between voicing your opinion at a town hall meeting in a civil, mutually respectful manner and disrupting a discussion to scream, rant, and rave with no interest in hearing a meaningful response.

The majority of those in attendance at these local civic events came to listen and ask questions, and the rude, juvenile conduct of the interlopers (many of whom were bussed in from out of the area by insurance industry lobbyists) is only serving to convince most Americans that the GOP is only interested in sabotaging the reform process.

  53. osage says:

BLUEPRINT THAT TODAY’S REPUBLICAN PARTY IS FOLLOWING RELIGIOUSLY……

“Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses of the people. (…) All propaganda must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. (…) The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses. The broad masses of the people are not made up of diplomats or professors of public jurisprudence nor simply of persons who are able to form reasoned judgment in given cases, but a vacillating crowd of human children who are constantly wavering between one idea and another. (…) The great majority of a nation is so feminine in its character and outlook that its thought and conduct are ruled by sentiment rather than by sober reasoning. This sentiment, however, is not complex, but simple and consistent. It is not highly differentiated, but has only the negative and positive notions of love and hatred, right and wrong, truth and falsehood.” – Adolph Hitler from Mein Kampf

  54. eastcoastprogressive says:

It is silly to associate the word “right” with anything these cretins do. They are not in the political spectrum as far as I’m concerned. Dems have bigger fish to fry than to constantly be concerned with the little, dumbed down people who can barely know enough to vote in their best interest rather than for the party of the rich.
