GOP congressman jeered for telling people to stop watching Glenn Beck.

Rep. Bob Inglis (R-SC) faced a “rowdy” crowd at a town hall forum on health care yesterday. Inglis said that he was against the health care policies being advocated by the Obama administration and “won applause for advocating medical liability reform.” However, the crowd revolted when Inglis told people to “turn the TV off” and stop listening to Glenn Beck. Watch it:

Inglis’ comments about Beck are inaudible in the clip, but ThinkProgress spoke to an Inglis spokesperson who confirmed that he had made those remarks.

Update Ben Smith points to another video that "clearly has Inglis saying Beck's name in repeating a suggestion that he watch the Fox talk show host. This clip also picks up the congressman accusing Beck of 'trading on fear.'"

Inglis might as well have told a crowd of smokers they should quit. Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and all the other hate-jock bloviators out there are like a drug to these people — they need their daily fix.

But they should get a clue — even some Republicans (such as Inglis) realize that we can’t have meaningful debate except among people who are thinking for themselves. Automatons who can only parrot talking points from their propaganda catapult never add anything constructive.

  30. Spencer's mom says:

After Limbaugh got so much media and political attention with his call of “I want Obama to fail!” the other wingnut pundits decided that they needed their share of the spotlight and played “who can be most inflammatory?”

The GNOP, seeing the opportunity to unite their ginned up base, jumped in and praised Rush and the others for having the “courage” (easy to do when just sitting before a microphone or TV camera) to speak up for “real Americans”. Thus the teabaggers were launched.

GNOP members of Congress fanned the flames, called for more insurrection, more demonstrations. Now that it’s gotten ugly, violent, racist, extremist, some members of Congress are attempting to backpedal, but it’s too late. Mob mentality rules the ignorant.

Pay back for the GOP is a you know what. You reap what you sow. When you feed out garbage to these uninformed lunatic fringe wingnuts, that is exactly what the GOP is getting: Garbage in and garbage out. The Congressman struck a nerve to these wingnuts when he asked them to turn off Becktv. These people are programmed by Beck as well as Fox News and it will be extremely differcult for GOP to accomplish their agenda against Obama when they are dealing with monsters that they created.

The media keep saying that this will hurt the Democrats. No, it will hurt the Republican party because they are the Victor Frankensteins that created their monsters with the help of their helpers such as Limbaugh, Beck, and others. The Republican party are certainly losing their sane Republican followers that lost respect in their own party. The GOP party is becoming sadder ever every day.

Your money is already going to drug addicts and illegal aliens. These groups show up in emergency rooms for treatment because they have no where to go. Many of them already have Medicaid as part of the welfare system. They also get other welfare benefits. Some of them qualify because their children were born here and are American citizens. The Republicans reformed welfare so your complaints should be directed to them.

The deficit was $1.2 trillion when the current president took office. The deficit now is $1.8 trillion. A “doubled” deficit, as you allege, would be $2.4 trillion. How did you round up to that?

Also, since we’re in a deep recession, governments have to spend in order to revive consumer spending. The base of an economy depends on broad indicators — keeping people off the streets (unemployment benefits), education, tax relief for the middle class, infrastructure, and yes, health reform.

This led to the housing collapse. When you can’t afford a loan and you get one anyway, guess what happens? A toddler can figure it out.

“Liberals are really grasping at straws on this health care thing.”
    – Nope. We have facts and truth on our side. Your side has only fearmongering using made-up scary stories.

“Its hard for them to believe real Americans do not like the idea of an all out government take over of the health care system.”
    – Haven’t you been paying attention? An “all out government take over” isn’t even on the table. But since you don’t have any coherent argument against what IS on the table, you have to gear your battle against a straw man.

“And why are Democrats trying to play down the idea that they are trying to push for Single-payer Govt health program?”
    – Some are. But most of us, while we admire the single-payer systems in other countries as being efficient, cost-effective, and successful, realize that turning to such a system here overnight (and putting a lot of people currently employed with private insurance companies out of work overnight) would be a jolt harmful to the economy. The public plan competing with private insurers deserves a chance to work.

“Just be honest with what you trying to do.”
    – Look who’s talking. You’re the one who’s suggesting the topic here is mandatory single-payer government-run health care. You’re trying to build discontent with health care reform based on lies.

“Trying to turn Insurance companies into villains is a very dishonest and pathetic tactic.”
    – Are you suggesting it’s unfair to claim that insurance companies exist to make a profit? No, no, no — spreading lies like “the elderly will receive forced euthanasia”, or “healthcare will be rationed”, or “there will be a bureaucrat between you and your doctor”, or “private insurers will be forced by law to close their doors” is a dishonest and pathetic tactic.

So why are you buying into the propaganda? Are you employed by the health insurance industry and you’re worried for your job? Or are you so drunk on the kool-aid you’re willing to oppose your own interests?

Basically, Obama’s “green” BS is a horrible deal for dealers as displayed just this week when this program ran out of money and will also run out of the recently approved money.

This program is putting hundreds of thousands of energy efficient cars on the road and boosting sales for the first time since 2007. As for the money running out, that is a contradiction of the GOP’s beliefs. That was a stupid argument when Ronald Reagan made it in 1964 regarding Medicare and Medicaid, and it’s a stupid argument now.

Instead of fearmongering about what some mythical “ultimate goal” is, why not debate what’s actually been proposed? Can you do that without dragging out the “ultimate goal is a socialist government” canard?

In case you haven’t noticed it, we already have some socialism in our government. No developed nation has a purely capitalistic system without some degree of socialism — they’d wind up like a banana republic if they did. What you call socialism provides us with education, roads, armed forces, infrastructure, libraries, arts, public safety, a helping hand for our down and out to get them back on their feet, etc. Are you claiming these “socialist” things should be abolished?

We aren’t the Soviet Union. We aren’t even Sweden. And providing a way for uninsured people to get affordable insurance won’t change that.

and no the dealer dont have to take the car>>> but its kinda like needed to in order to get the C$C deal. and if the paper work isnt completed properly then it gets rejected and well usually going to fall back on the person buying the car to come up with the 35 or 4500.

  179. Megaloptera McWars says:

I don’t how to break this to you, but boosting sales doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Have you ever heard of repossesion? With the economy the way it is, do you honestly think this many people will be able to buy a new car and sustain the payments? The program DID run out of money and when congress throws money at it again, it will run out a second time and so forth.

You’re still operating under this theory that the government forced people to take loans they couldn’t afford. They even brought in Carter. Can I speak with adults anymore?

In a way the government did force people to take loans they couldn’t afford when Reagan’s appointee for the federal reserve, Alan Greenspan, set interests rates too low for too long and applauded “innovation” in financial products.

The other effect of keeping interest rates too low for too long, in addition to the risky manipulation of financial products, was the overinflation of property values. People found that their wages, which weren’t keeping up during the Bush years, couldn’t match up to the overpriced homes, so they were forced to consider non-traditional mortgages. Your average person/family couldn’t walk into the realtor’s office and get a fix rate/limited adjustable rate mortgage anymore because housing prices were rapidly and artificially adjusted beyond a reasonable payment/income ration. The current massive price correction is proof.

Back to car loans, when you consider the program auto companies have going on to make your payment and/or take back your car if you lose your job, in addition to that fact that a car loan typically carries a lower interest rate than a mortgage, it’s less risky to one’s personal finances and to the economy as a whole. Especially now that job losses are lower than expected this month at less than 300,000. We could see growth again at the end of this quarter. It’s the right time.

Do you want a police state that is run by your messiah and throws all the conservatives into the Gulag so they can’t disagree with you? It sure seems that way.
    ____________________________________________________________

If you bothered to read other posts in here, you’d find we aren’t “lemmings” who “blindly follow” President Obama. When he does things we disagree with, we say so. He doesn’t get a free pass.

Are you suggesting that President Obama is running a “police state”? Are you suggesting he advocates throwing all conservatives into the Gulag? If so, you might provide some evidence of that.

Or maybe this is an overreaction to being voted down, and you’re associating our displeasure with your posts to being thrown into a Gulag. It’s true we have a mechanism here where if we like a post or dislike a post, we can say so, and we use it. Some of us rate the posts based on whether they’re intelligent and thoughtful, or if they are just a waste of space. Some of us rate the posts based on whether we agree or disagree with them. Apparently you’re a victim of the latter (it only takes 10, you know, to get “voted down”).

Personally, I only vote down for posts that are spam, blatantly abusive or offensive posts (and that goes for both left and right posters), posts that merely parrot talking points with no original thought, posts that are just cut and paste jobs (unless there’s some original comment with them), and posts that are obviously intended to disrupt or derail (troll-turds). I don’t vote down posts presented intelligently, even if I disagree with what the poster says.

But getting voted down in a TP thread is hardly the same as being thrown into the Gulag in a police state. Get over it — you’re not a victim.

If it really bothers you to have people disagree with you, I recommend you leave here and go somewhere like redstate, where you can circle-jerk with all the wingnuts you want.

  231. Megaloptera McWars says:

What does the GOP have to do with anything? Obama created this program.

Let me put this in perspective for a third time: You’re COMPLAINING the program will run out of money. SO? AWOL / deserter…bush had a contract and broke it…how does that make others feel that stuck it out. 55,000 did what they signed on to and didn’t come home.

Is is just because Obama is half white that so many can’t stand it or is it because maybe just maybe Obama wants equalize the haves and have nots a tad more. What the hell is to be afraid of after 8 years of pure, unrelenting misery.

    OT but interesting nonetheless…

For several experts contacted by U.S. News, how President Bush received his honorable discharge from the Guard remains a mystery. Lawrence Korb, a former Assistant Secretary for Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs during the Reagan Administration, said it was apparent that President Bush “had not fulfilled his obligation.”

“When I look at his records it is clear he didn’t do what he was supposed to do,” Korb says. “Since he didn’t do these those things, he should have been called to active duty.”

It seems pretty straightforward to Reagan’s staff that Bush did not fulfill his obligation. Thanks for that tip about Google, starkcr! I never would have found this article without it…

did you ever find those dealers going bankrupt???

  276. LynB says:

I’m sure Stark heard the bankruptcy rumor on Fox… looking for it now…

Nope… can’t find anything on this supposed non-payment for C4C

  280. Spencer's mom says:

Well, that’s just odd. You guys call out stark for details of his “service” and he disappears. Completely! It’s like magic!

I, too, went to the google on the internets and can’t find a single reference to dealers going bankrupt due to the C4C program. Okay, I did find a comment on michellemalkin but I don’t think that counts as proof of anything. Consider the source, consider who would post there.

What I did find was that some dealers who are actually in bankruptcy are finding that C4C is helping them to liquidate their inventory. Which I would think is a good thing.

    PEACE

    Well i fthere was a non-payment for a C$C is because
    A) all the requirements was not made
1a) like the person filling out paper worked didnt do it correctly.
1b) the buyer didnt give the correct and proper paper work for the 1 yr of registration or insurance or it been running for a year.

other then that i haven seen any dealers not getting paid.

  283. Megaloptera McWars says:

Stark answered “Nope.” when asked if he had a link and then had this admission of wishful thinking, I said they will be bankrupt, not that they are. and had this doozy, How long do you think a dealership can run without getting paid?

So not only did he refuse to provide a link, in his mind dealers going unpaid is a current event. Is 2010 White Wing Power in the air?

  284. Megaloptera McWars says:

Good research, spencer’s mom. Are you exited about about Joe Sestak’s official entry into the race? He’s got a great campaign account to start and can really go at Specter’s decisions in the last few months alone!

Well then Good job to all!!!!!!!!!

its fighting the good fight that works always while they fight the wrong fight.

  286. Spencer's mom says:

McWars, I’m totally behind Sestak. I’ve actually met and personally corresponded with him (his district is right next to mine) and he’s a great guy. A little Blue, but still far more progressive than most, and certainly a better choice than Specter.

After watching Obama “tell” us to call off the campaign against Dems who don’t support healthcare reform, I’ll be interested in how deeply he, along with Biden and Gov. Rendell, will try to insert himself into our primary.

Newsflash: We don’t have king-makers in this nation, and no one tells PA Dems who our candidate will be!

    Promises to get interesting!

    PEACE

  287. Megaloptera McWars says:

That’s the spirit, spencer’s mom! (I don’t know if you will read this, since I’m posting nearly two hrs later and you may have moved on entirely, so sorry about the late response).

The primary process for an incumbent is treated all too often as an afterthought, and the administration isn’t helping. Give the endorsement and campaign for the nominee AFTER the primary ; otherwise, don’t try to overcome the locals in a useless bid to build non-existent bipartisanship! Specter is going to be another Ben Nelson if elected!

Please do anything you can to melt the super glue holding Specter’s butt to the seat!

  288. RUCerious says:
