Right-wing global warming deniers protest Clean Energy Summit.

Yesterday, the Center for American Progress Action Fund hosted the National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas, a gathering attended by Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Harry Reid, Steven Chu, Hilda Solis, and many other experts. Unsurprisingly, right-wing protesters – many of whom are global warming deniers – also gathered at the venue. The Wonk Room’s Brad Johnson interviewed some of the protesters to get a better understanding of their views. One said President Obama is an “Anti-American Arab” who “is not a natural-born citizen.” Many others said that global warming is a hoax, that Obama is a man of divided loyalties and questionable associations, and that the country is headed toward socialist decline. Watch it:

Update The number of activists who supported clean energy reform vastly outnumbered the deniers. "Organizers of the demonstrators who backed the energy agenda behind the conference said they counted about 275 supporters on hand."

Do these people not realize their time is over?

A couple of years back Pat Robertson even gave in and said Man is causing global warming and no it’s not a good thing.

These people should be happy anyhow sinceclean air means less people in need of government aided medical treatment for lung problems.

  2. cd says:

BTW Obama is an American who had a Kenyan father and he’s a practicing Christian.

I don’t understand why so many people want to claim he’s an Arab or a Muslim or anything else.

  3. Levi the Dungbeetle says:

Science denial is one of the fourteen indicators of fascism. These people need to be arrested and put in re-education camps before they start their coup.

    #2,

i’ll let there spiritual leader answer that:

That is of course rather painful for those involved. One should not as a rule reveal one’s secrets, since one does not know if and when one may need them again. The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous.

Bye, Bye, Birfers! Irrelevant, obsolete, disfunctional and delusional.

    Did I mention disfunctional?

  7. tinythinker says:

There is more to this than stupidity as some might suppose. Any time you buy into a system and are attached to it without question, there are going to be extensions of that system that eventually are at odds with reality. The sensible thing is to reassess and reformulate, but often people just refuse because they are so heavily invested, and their cognitive dissonance forces them to come to increasingly absurd conclusions.

What did they do, just pack up all the anti-healthcare lemmings from one townhall meeting and truck them over to the energy summit, where they could just recycle the same stooopid on a different topic?

Then again, I doubt this crowd would recycle anything, would they? That would be unAmurkin, after all…

TEE – HEE, righties. you are truly the vanguard of Sham-Wow realpolitik!!!!!!

Apparently those Right Wing Nuts who are screaming about no Global Warming, don’t go outside much….The Climate is changing, case in point…80 inches of rain fell in China, and Japan last week. How bad does it have to get before they figure out the weather is out of control.

  15. Hoodathunktick says:

For most of these people looking ridiculous is probably a high point in their existence.

  16. paleolib says:

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that these people were (1) standing outside in Las freaking Vegas (2)during daylight hours (3)in August when the high temp regularly hits 100 degrees (4) denying the existence of global warming. Perhaps their brains are already baked. Perhaps they don’t understand or care that a modest climate shift will render their efforts to obtain enough water to sustain life futile. Perhaps the having a black president is just that scary to them. Whatever the reason, trying to understand these people could be as hazardous to your mental health as mere existence appears to be to theirs.

  17. Gregor Samsa says:

Pres Obama is a Kenya-born Muslim Arab, who faked a birth a Hawaiian when he was a child -them Arabs are crafty- but has never attended a mosque.

He did, however, attended the same Christian church in the US for close to 20 years -them Arabs would do anything to take over the world.

Obama is also an atheist, a socialist, and a Nazi, who was palling ’round with “terrists” when working as a US Senator. He traveled to Pakistan in the 80s in open defiance of an US embargo, and is now busy gathering an enemies list -which maybe the reason why so may people are covering up the fact that he was born overseas. Them Arabs are scary.

All the while, he has managed to stay married to the same woman for almost two decades and project an image of a wholesome family -them Arabs would do anything to take over the world.

    Whew! Them Arabs are crafty…

Boomers actually fit into 2 categories. The first boom runs from mid 1940’s to 1954. This was the WWII boom. It was followed by the 1954-early 60’s, depending on what group of demographers you read.

The 1st Boom were those most likely to have been eligible for duty in Nam. The 2nd Boom sort of caught the tail end. Most of the present cranks seem to be first boomers.

They’re already one foot in the grave, so what do they care if the planet burns up? They’ve lived their lives and could care less about those who come behind.

Not to mention most of them are too stupid to even know what the hell they’re talking about. Listen to them and that “socialism” crap Glen Beck and Sean Hannity’s been feeding them. There’s absolutely no ties to socialism and dealing with global warming but they make the stretch.

This is the one of the challenges of living in a democracy. We’re always held back by the lowest common denominator.

This is what pisses me off about these people. Oh, you only just noticed in the last 8 months that the government is screwing you, violating your rights, and bankrupting the country?

Get pissed at the government, great, but don’t pretend that any of this stuff is some kind of new trend.

Yeah, the big change is the color of the President’ skin. They never noticed the other moron who started an illegal war, bankrupted the Treasury, illegally wiretapped US citizens, or let an attack that killed 3000 Americans occur. Because he was a white skinned Republican.

Are they idiots who happen to be racists or racists who are idiots? Who cares…they’ll never be a part of the solution to fix the things that we need to survive.
