Paul Broun: Obama’s ’socialist elite’ is planning to ‘declare martial law.’

The Athens Banner-Herald reports today that Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) told constituents yesterday that he thinks Democratic leaders are planning to declare martial law:

He also spoke of a “socialistic elite” – Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid – who might use a pandemic disease or natural disaster as an excuse to declare martial law.

“They’re trying to develop an environment where they can take over,” he said. “We’ve seen that historically.”

The Banner-Herald also notes that Broun told town hall attendees that they should tell friends and relatives in surrounding states to lobby conservative Blue Dog Democrats to fight progressive health care legislation, who are also the targets of the insurance industry’s campaign to make themselves the primary benificiaries of any health care legislation.

I have placed this link on other posts, so I apologize, but this video is insane.

This is the video of Glenn Beck’s show from last night (8-11-09) condensed into 10 minutes.

I have never seen so many health care scare tactics and talk about eugenics in such a short period of time.

    You have to watch.

Oh. Martial law. Sorry, just my ususal dylexic confusion. Can I show ‘em my DD-214 and tell ‘em I’ve already been there and done that and would they get off my porch? Volunteer hell; done that too. Oh, follow martial law. Like the UCMJ.

Shit, just tell them I’m AWOL if they come around.

  8. Chuck Feney says:

FTA “”Let me start this by telling you what I think of this bill and (President) Obama,” he said, and slammed the binders on the ground.

With that, Broun set the tone for a town hall meeting on health care reform. The Democrats’ proposal is too expensive and will threaten millions of Georgians’ jobs and lives, he said.

“This is a stinking, rotten fish, and they don’t want you to smell it, and they want to shove it down your throat and make you eat it before you smell how rotten and stinky it is,” he said.”

Like the line from the original Flight of the Phoenix movie, “You act as if stupidity were a virtue.”

Well, really, this is pretty serious when someone who is a Mormon, and not a Jack Mormon as far as I can discern, has become a “Socialist Elite“. If Harry Reid is a “socialist elite”, I’m the fracking Queen of the May, and I will gladly surrender that title to any witless troll that can prove, beyond reasonable doubt, Broun’s claim. Either the socialist elite one or the martial law one.

  30. stewarjt says:

It is simply amazing how these otherwise ignorant a-holes know the future, but absolutely nothing else!

  31. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    Congressman Broun,

Have you actually read the various health care reform bills yourself? If you did, and you didn’t understand something, did you talk to the people who wrote it? Or did you just consult your Republican Party Talking Points to find out what it’s supposed to mean? Because if that’s what you’re doing, then it’s easy to understand why you and our regular trolls don’t know what’s really being discussed. I’m not saying that I know everything that’s in the bills, but I know what’s NOT in them, and that’s pretty much everything your party is saying is in there.

When you check to find out what tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be like, do you consult a source who has a history of being fairly accurate, or do you consult someone who is hardly ever right? Because it sounds like you and a whole bunch of your colleagues have been consulting someone who is hardly ever right.

    from wikipedia:

On November 10, 2008, one week after the 2008 presidential election, Broun drew national attention[9] when he criticized then President-elect Barack Obama’s call for a civilian national security force, suggesting that Obama might use it to establish a Marxist dictatorship.

    *

In May 2009, Broun proposed legislation
that 2010 be proclaimed “The Year Of The Bible”.

    *

    (my favorite)

Scientists all over this world say that the idea of human induced global climate change is one of the greatest hoaxes perpetrated out of the scientific community. It is a hoax. There is no scientific consensus.”[16] The comment received some applause, but prompted other representatives to vote for the bill. “Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas, said he switched sides after listening to, as he said, “the Flat Earth Society”

    *

Broun introduced a military anti-pornography bill into the House of Representatives. The bill is meant to stem the sales of pornography on U.S military installations. This bill basically notes that the there should be no loopholes in a former piece of legislation (Title 10 of the United States code), effectively banning military personnel from viewing pornography (Now entitled the “Military Honor and Decency Act”).[5] According to Broun’s website, legislation will only be passed based on his “Four Way Test”, which includes, “1) Is it moral/right?, 2) Is it constitutional?, 3) Is it necessary?, and 4) Is it affordable?”.

It’s no so extraordinary that Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) is an idiot representative (see Michelle Bachmann R-MN)–what is hard to swallow is the number of people who voted for him into office. Didn’t George Carlin say something about how dumb the average person is remembering that half the people are dumber than that.

  43. Fred says:

Well this is odd when you consider that it was bush and the right who unleashed blackwater, a private army inside the borders of the US.

  44. LarrysBlog says:

So, let me understand a few things. Doesn’t the Center for Disease Control (CDC) handle anything to do with medical out breaks and doesn’t the Federal Emergency Management Agency handle any national Emergencies. So, doesn’t the government have the power to declare martial law via either one of those agency’s? Why would changing our health care systems increase or decrease the government’s ability to declare martial law.

Sorry, I am using Logic. Obviously, that is a concept that the right-wing wackos don’t have a firm grasp on.

  57. dezertskyz says:

Yes indeed we have, think Miami 2000, the “rioters” flown in by the Bush campaign and RNC, to stop the vote count and get the loser appointed to the presidency. That was the beginning of the end of democracy in America.

Real Americans need to stand up and end the thugs promoting mob rule, or America may never recover.

  58. Wiz says:

I think this whole thing boils down to one thing: These wack jobs woke up one day a thought how did a black guy become President of the United States? Their whole behaviour can only be explained by racism. Their fear that if Obama is successful, their ideology of hate and fear will be finally and fully discredited. Thus they are desperately looking for anything to stop him. The death panels, the birthers, disruption of the town halls, the facist-Nazi-socialist name calling, and now the martial law show their panic. They complain that this is not the America they grew up in, and they are right, it is better, or at least on the way to being better, if we don’t let them stop it.

  59. Bozo The Neoclown says:

i am not too concerned this will happen under obama but, it’s interesting to note the cancervatives weren’t too concerned when their annointed idiot-king 43 laid the groundwork for this to happen in the days after 9-11 in his unprecedented power grab.

I’d claim Glenn Blech but I heard he likes to fling his poop all around. O’Reilly is rumored to eat his own excrement so that’s out of the question. The lunatic fringe has always been here in GA, only here they are the majority of the citizenry. Many here don’t seem to be able to think for themselves, and that’s how Broun and the other retardicans get their votes and end up in Congress. Broun knows better. He’s just feeding into their fears, and they’re literally loving every minute of it. None of the retardicans here tell the truth because they know if they do, people won’t vote for them. Broun is looking out for #1. It would seem that after Ensign and Sanford in SC the people in GA would want to examine the bozos like Broun who represent them in Congress, but they aren’t interested. What they really want is to get the black man out of the WH. Nothing else matters to them. Nothing. It is hard living as a progressive in such a blood red state, but I refuse to give in to these scum-sucking teabaggers.

Hard to say but he either NEEDS medication or he needs to INCREASE his medication. Either way a Doctor should be involved

  102. madstork123 says:

    I agree with Rastman @ #2. Coooooooooooool!!

We can round up all the GOP and their supporters and drop them on an island. I’m thinkin Bikini Atoll and laugh while to oceans rise from the lack of global warming.

  103. Cats r Flyfishn says:

According to the Military Commissions Act of 2006, the one that designed by the Republicans that were in control of Congress that year, the President doesn’t need much of an excuse to declare martial law. Using the beloved Patriot Act, he can gather up all those screaming teabaggers and lock up and send them off to Gitmo until forever…

  104. tombaker says:

    Who’s the paranoid idiot?

    Is it Ted Nugent again??

  105. thebes says:

He is NO MORE and NO LESS paranoid than many of us were during the Bush Regime.

The truth of the matter is that BOTH major political parties have powerful members who are acting primarily to increase Federal power, as well as, obviously, their own personal power within the Federal government.

During the Bush years I first bought firearms, first felt afraid that one day jackboots might come to my door at 4am. I hoped that situation would change once Bush was gone, that this dark chapter of our history would end. IT HAS NOT, we have had no meaningful change in Extra-Constitutional Federal Powers. Our “Change” has been one of window dressings and payees for the corrupt and their pawns in congress. There is still a grievous danger that our leaders could declare martial law.

If this threat doesn’t end under Obama, it will again be the left which is at risk. Its like an evil villain’s pendulum swinging back and forth- it doesn’t just move from the left to the right then back, it drops a notch closer to our necks with each passing swing- we must stop this before it is too late.

  106. Hawkeye says:

Let me guess…he’s an ardent supporter of Bush/Cheney? The man is a bottom feeder.

  107. EugeneDebs says:

    thebes says:

Yeah he is being more paranoid. I thought Bush was a liar and incompetent. I thought he was spying on us but I didnt think the Federal government was out to get me or was going to round me up and put me in a camp

  108. stratonike says:

Ah the Banana Herald. How I don’t miss it.

  109. Rodeskawler says:

    One word: transference

Look over there. We want you think that guy is going to do what we plan to do should we ever regain the Whitehouse. I can’t thank him enough for not prosecuting the last fascist regime that nearly did.

  110. MapleStreet says:

    Dumb Question:

What president was it who hired mercenaries to patrol NOLA after Hurricaine Katrina ?

And has troops doing police duty on the US-Mexico border ?

Hint: the same one that drew up plans for Blackwater to patrol other cities.

  111. eda says:

Actually, Congressman Broun is simply regurgitating a Bush Administration proposal from 2003, ostensibly should SARS emerge as a convenient rationale.

  112. labman57 says:

Socialistic tyranny? Fascist dictatorships? Death panels? Internment camps? Foreign birth certificates? They’re all part of a common pattern.

The problem is that the most vocal opponents of the reform legislation really do not care whether what they are espousing is factually correct. They will gladly embrace the lies and distortions if these fallacies provide a vehicle for venting their pent up hatred against anything and everything with the Obama stamp on it.

The key is to get past these bellicose blowhards and reach the constituency that is genuinely concerned, yet receptive to learning the facts. The tricky part is that it’s hard to separate the sincere wheat from the Astroturf chaff.

  113. Brain From Planet Arous says:

Still hungry after chewing on FACTS and not propaganda:

    http://cnnwire.blogs.cnn.com/2009/07/28/military-planning-for-possible-h1n1-outbreak/

    http://www.naturalnews.com/026723_health_vaccines_immune_system.html

Now, you all line up for your squalene, Gulf War, tamiflu shots. After all, Obama, Pelosi, Biden, the FDA, the WHO, the CDC, and Rahm Emmanuel would never lie and give in to special interests.

  114. upright left says:

“The Athens Banner-Herald reports today that Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) told constituents yesterday that he thinks Democratic leaders are planning to declare martial law”

That’s as nutty as were lib predictions that Bush would declare martial law rather than leave office.

  115. Leftside Annie says:

This member of the socialist elite is truly goddamned sick and tired of these evil morons!

Let’s hurry up and declare martial law already! Then we can throw the whole lot of those sorry assclowns in Gitmo and get it the hell over with!!!!

Get on with it, I say!!!

  116. EugeneDebs says:

    upright left says:

I thought that was nutty too. However I only remember reading that from blogs. I dont remember and Dem CONGRESSMEN saying it publicly. So that really wouldnt be the same thing would it?

  117. wolfsinger says:

    kevsters @ 3 says:

“He is no crazier than Glenn Beck.”

I respectfully disagree. Unlike the mental midget media whore that is Beck, Rep. Broun is an ELECTED mental midget. One who’s voice legitimizes the organized and growing chorus of hate and racism emanating from the South and amplified in Washington.

Does his speech reek of GOP desperation? Yes. Is it unhinged? Truly. And what do the unhinged commonly do when they’ve reached their limit? They go for their guns.

  118. pakaal says:

What was the “Permanent Republican Majority” idea but a plan to gain control the entire US government forever?

There’s a psychological term for Paul Broun’s comments: Projection.
