Poll: Few people trust Fox News other than whites, southerners, and Republicans.

Daily Kos/Research 2000 has released a new poll of Americans on which of the three major cable news channels they watch and trust. Kos points out that the poll finds “Republicans watch Fox News and nothing else, Democrats split between MSNBC and CNN, and Independents watch nothing.” The Washington Independent’s Dave Weigel notes that “non-white viewers really don’t like Fox”:

The biggest swing region in the poll? The South. In Southern states, 46 percent of viewers say that Fox News is “extremely reliable” or “reliable.” Only 6 percent of them say that of MSNBC, compared to 26 percent who say it of CNN, a huge shift from the days when CNN was derided as the “Communist/Clinton News Network.” And non-white viewers really don’t like Fox. Only 5 percent of African-Americans, 11 percent of Hispanics, and 8 percent of other minorities consider the network reliable, while a majority of every one of those groups trusts CNN and sizable pluralities trust MSNBC.

At one point last week, Media Matters, which had been doing the counting, said that FOX had had 69 guests so far that were against health care reform and 10 who were for it. Last year, Murdock admitted to a British interviewer that his network “pushed the Iraq War.”

Why would anyone other than a moron believe anything they hear on FOX.

Just a second now. I am Native American, but I have to add this.

Not all whites watch Fox News, but most Fox News watchers are white.

Substitute “white” with idiots or racists and it works too.

This Poll has Zero Creditability. It come from a politically biased organization.

Daily Kos (pronounced /?ko?s/) is an American political blog, publishing news and opinion from a liberal or progressive point of view.
    _____________________________________________________________

Nobody here is going to dispute that Daily Kos is a progressive blogsite.

However, Research 2000 is “a nonpartisan full service research firm that conducts surveys and focus groups for advocacy groups, trade associations, businesses and over 300 news media organizations,” according to their website:

    http://research2000.us/about/

Do you consider a Gallup poll cited on Fox News to be biased, just because of the medium? Oh…wait…you probably don’t even consider Fox News to be biased. Bad example. But my point is that Daily Kos doesn’t conduct the poll, Research 2000 does. Daily Kos was merely reporting the results. And the results aren’t surprising.

I won’t even get started about “creditability”…unless you mean to say praiseworthiness instead of believability.

The numbers are bigger at Fox (in this poll and in terms of much of the ratings), because for conservatives it’s basically the only game in town.
    ___________________________________________________________

The poll also seems to suggest there are a lot of people out there who don’t get their news from any of the cable news channels. I’d be interested to know how many people get their news from the networks, from various internet sources, or even from an old-fashioned newspaper.

It may be that for conservatives, it’s still the only game in town when you factor in non-cable news sources as well.

I was just thinking about where I get my news. I can think of two cable news channels, two network news channels (plus local television news), my local newspaper and two other newspapers I read online, NPR, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Time, Newsweek, the Atlantic, and many other sources (including a variety of opinion columnists). Heck, I even read Ann Coulter’s column — although admittedly more for amusement than for useful information.

I can’t imagine getting all my news from one source. If I did, I’d most likely find myself becoming of the same mindset as the source. Come to think of it, that may explain a lot about the Fox News audience.

  118. Xisithrus says:

    FOX, has 6 to one pro-unhealthy politicos/an*lysts versus other stations pro-healthy politicos/analysts, I read.

  119. Wayne says:

    smidget says:

Hey, watchdog, tell us all again how when someone hijacked your screenname

The system won’t let you use a name exactly the same. For example, no one can use Wayne with a capital W. someone else could use lower case wayne.

This isn’t happening with watchpup’s claimed hijackings. I suspect watchpup is schizophrenic or has multiple personality disorder.

  140. pete says:

Ya got the wrong definition of troll, stupid troll. Here ya go.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

  141. kwsventures says:

I like the original definition much better.

A troll is a member of a race of fearsome creatures from Norse mythology. Originally more or less the Nordic equivalents of giants, although often smaller in size, the different depictions have come to range from the fiendish giants – similar to the ogres of England (also called Trolls at times, see Troller’s Gill) – to a devious, more human-like folk of the wilderness, living underground in hills, caves or mounds. In the Faroe islands, Orkney and Shetland tales, trolls are called trows, adopted from the Norse language when these islands were settled by Vikings.

Nordic literature, art and music from the romantic era and onwards has adapted trolls in various manners – often in the form of an aboriginal race, endowed with oversized ears and noses. From here, as well as from Scandinavian fairy tales such as Three Billy Goats Gruff, trolls have achieved international recognition, and in modern fantasy literature and role-playing games, trolls are featured to the extent of being stock characters.

Only a petulant small sad little weasel would come to a site just to annoy people. You disgust decent human beings you subhuman moron.

  145. Reggie says:

    kwsventures says:

  147. wiley says:

CNN is only serious relative to Fox. I think it’s a sorry excuse for journalism, too.

  148. 4httr says:

To lock up the South forever, the Fox and Friends comedy show should get Doucy and Kilmeade to legally change their names to Bob Lee and Jeff Davis. Then, Fox worship would threaten the Southern Baptist convention for primacy South of the Mason-Dixon line.

  149. pete says:

    wiley,

The whole concept of cable/corporate “news” is fatally flawed, wiley. It’s entertainment and, as any study of entertainment will show, conflict sells. So…?

Where no conflict should exist, they create one. The whole idea of giving both sides of every conflict, even when one side is bullshit, equal time has turned them into sources of disinformation and confusion.

“Yellow journalism”, “tabloid news”, call it what you will; cable “news” is arguably the most harmful entity in our society today. When people are sold lies as truth? They don’t know what’s true. When they don’t know what’s true? They can’t make informed decisions. And when a society can’t make informed decisions the consequences are truly horrible.

  159. Outlaw284 says:

Let me get this straight. All of you keep saying that only 26% of people are Republican right.
So tell me how is it then if the only people that watch Fox News are whites, southerners, and Republicans, which y’all say are the same thing, is still the number one watched news show on TV. CNN and MSNBC are 2nd and 3rd.

Not to mention that this poll isn’t even even on the people asked.
Really 1704 whites 336 blacks and 286 latinos.
Why don’t you try polling the same number of blacks and latinos as whites. Oh I know why because then it wouldn’t turn out the way you wanted it to.

    Facts.
In total day ratings, where Nickelodeon is a perennial first-place winner, Fox News placed 4th (averaging 1.3 million total viewers), CNN ranked 17th (averaging 685,000 total viewers), and MSNBC placed 26th (averaging 483,000 total viewers).
