Huckabee Rejects Two-State Solution
On a visit to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories this week, former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee supported Israel’s right to build settlements on Palestinian land. He also stated his opposition to a two-state solution, saying that there is no room for a Palestinian state “in the middle of the Jewish homeland”:
Speaking to a small group of foreign reporters in Jerusalem, Huckabee, seen as a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012, said the international community should consider establishing a Palestinian state some place else.
“The question is should the Palestinians have a place to call their own? Yes, I have no problem with that. Should it be in the middle of the Jewish homeland? That’s what I think has to be honestly assessed as virtually unrealistic.”
This isn’t the first time Huckabee has come out against a two-state solution and endorsed the idea of Palestinian population transfer. In August 2008, Huckabee said, “The two-state solution is no solution, but will cause only problems,” insisting that “the Palestinians can create their homeland in many other places in the Middle East, outside Israel.” Ironically, the Jerusalem Post reported that Huckabee “did not want to impose his views on the situation or to Americanize it.”
Huckabee’s current visit is being sponsored by the American Friends of Ateret Cohanim, a non-profit organization “that sends millions of shekels worth of donations to Israel every year for clearly political purposes, such as buying Arab properties in East Jerusalem.” Israel’s Haaretz reported that the group “is registered in the United States as an organization that funds educational institutes in Israel,” but that its financing of settlements in East Jerusalem would “seem to violate the organization’s tax-exempt status.”
Yesterday, Huckabee attended a reception at the Shepherd Hotel in East Jerusalem, which “became the focus of American-Israeli tensions last month.” The Obama administration has objected to Israeli plans for construction of a new Jewish settlement at the hotel, which is “located in the heart of a Palestinian neighborhood.”

Really, though, the only motivation in rejecting a two-state solution is to incite a war. Clearly a two-state solution is the best one. Think about it – if you are babysitting, and the two kids in your care won’t stop fighting with each other, do you force them to stay in the same room and beat the crap out of each other, or do you separate them? Not to trivialize the problem, and clearly it’s more complex than that, but if you just simply can’t get along with someone, staying away from them is the best solution.

If you look at maps from the early 20th century you will see that an area labeled Palistine in what is now Israel and Jordon. The Jordan portion of what was Palistine was taken over by cousins of the Saudi family, which is now the Jordanian royal family. It is too bad that the Palistinians got robbed of their country by the Saudi cousins, but that has nothing to do with the Israelis. Of course this is little known fact with no hope of being recognized a the root of the problem.

August 18th, 2009 at 11:05 amConsider that there was no official “Jewish homeland” until 1947, and that the Palestinians had occupied that land, as the majority, for several thousand years prior to that and were removed during partitioning.
Consider that the people of Abraham, when arriving in what has become Israel, dislocated the indigenous people at the time. They invaded, killed and drove away those who had occupied those lands for generations.
Consider that in North America, the people who had inhabited it for thousands of years were driven out of their own lands, killed or died of diseases brought by the Europeans and eventually herded onto reservations by those who had invaded their homeland.
When Huckabee and others defend the actions of the Jewish state, they are defending their own forebears. Whether it’s called “The Promised Land” or “Manifest Destiny,” it’s just words to disguise the destruction of another culture and to justify it.

Democrats value power too, but their purpose in general is to exercise power for the general benefit, not just their own–that is their record.
(Funnily enough, when the Republican Party formed under Abraham Lincoln it was the Republicans that established over-arching Federal authority and the use of “big government” to fulfill ‘the self-evident truth’ that “all men are created equal” as the Founding Fathers claimed—whilst the Democrats of that time stood in bloody opposition. Somehow these signature positions began to reverse over time and I think the repolarization of the two parties to their modern forms was revealed in 1930s and 1940s).

In 1948 when Israel was created Palestinians were the majority then.
Israel was not created by democracy in 1948, but by forcing Palestinians out of their homes and creating a massive refuge in 1948 of hundreds of thousands of Palesinian people,who are now scattered around living in many neighboring Arab countries,whom Israel is denying them return to their homes in violation of UN charters.
For Palestinians May 15th ,1948 called a Nakba Day-(Catastrophe) day,for Israelis it is (Independence Day).
Hundreds of Palestinians villages were erased to build homes for Jewish newcomers from Europe,and different other places from all over the world.
The native Plaestinians who are still living among Israelis are called Israelis,they represent almost 20% of Israel’s population today,that does not include 1.8 million Palestinians under military occupation in the West Bank,and over 1.4 millions Palestinians living in Gaza surrounded by land and sea by Israel.
So, Huckabee wants these people simply to vanish and leave their homes,and history of thousands of years.
If Huckabee agrees to one state, by suggesting that the two state solution is no solution , that’s fine,if Palestinians(Moslems,Christians,Durz and others) are given the same equal rights as of Israelis.
But Zionists will not agree.They want the Palestinians to stay as second class citizens in their own country,and be used as cheap labor.
Huckabee is making statements about a subject he proved to be totally ignorant about.
It is likely that Huckabee is simply pandering for Jewish votes in US when he runs next time around in 2012.

1. There is no room for a Palestinian state, and Israel has a right to all this land. Plus more if they want it. This is the way to bring peace to the area.
2. The death penalty is a great way to deter crime.
3. Teenagers must not be given any factual information about sex, birth control, reproduction, or STDs. They should only be told to keep their legs crossed. This will bring down the teen pregnancy rate.
4. The invisible hand of the free market will always keep the economy healthy.
5. If we just quit helping the poor, they’ll all become rich.
6. Etc.

Palestine is the name the Romans gave Israel after it was stolen- in a great catastrophe – from the Jews. If you would like to talk about it from a historical perspective, consider that first.
So? I guess we’re giving both North and South America back to the native inhabitants and shipping everyone else back to Europe, Africa and Asia. After all, they have a much longer and more recent claim to the land than the Israelis do.
Of course, they’ll have to sort out their own issues, because the Lakota were forced out of the woodlands onto the plains, etc.
The “historical” argument that the descendants of the Diaspora, many of whom are genetically and ethnically far removed from the original Hebrew tribes, have a “right” to the land is ridiculous. Throughout history people have been kicked out or run off or forcibly removed from their homelands, yet the Israelis are the only ones to claim a right to go home, thousands of years after the fact.

If Israelis want to live in “Judea” or “Samarra,” then they should live there. In Palestinian villages, among the Palestinian people. Not in illegal colonies with separate roads and infrastructure.
I’m with Huckabee on one point – I, too, reject the two-state solution. It’ll never work. The only solution that will bring lasting peace. Integrate all the land east and west of the Green Line into one multi-ethnic, multi-religious state.
True, this will necessitate wiping Israel off the map, as well as wiping Palestine off the map. But it’s a necessary sacrifice for peace.

Since that time, it has never been reconciled to a “fair and equitable” solution.
These cultures have been at war for thousands of years, yet the “brightest and the best” acerbated and caused a long running cultural war ever since.
If you study HISTORY…no culture actually can solely lay claim to the “Holy Land”, for the simple fact that the Israelites were the “wanderers” of the land, and were captured, subjugated, culturally polluted throughout ancient history, which was reflected by their “religious” beliefs and the historical writings that have endured through time, from them.
There were many a “persecutor” in those times…

Right – and that’s where it gets tricky. It’s not just water rights, but water infrastructure, power infrastructure, aquifer usage, border crossings, trade and port access, and land titling issues. Separating Israel and Palestine at this point is a bit like separating 42-year old conjoined twins.

This is the heart of the problem. If the Palestinians were sincere, and the Arabs really wanted peace, this would be entirely possible. No one would have to be worried about a pogram, or their kids being stoned in the streets. When it is safe for Jews to live under Palestinian rule, and be protected by the rule of law, and not the rule of the streets, then you will see a real one or two state solution with all the soverign rights that go along with it.

Hamas’ charter calls for the destruction of Israel as a Jewish state.
Many Muslim leaders (Adminadjad for one) call for the destruction of Israel first and then the extermination of the Jewish people around the world wherever they are.
Hezbollah has attacked Jewish synagogues all over the planet, not just in Israel.
The Arab media incites their people to violence in order to distract from the very real economic and social problems in their countries.
Israel has no oil is a democracy, and yet is the most prosperous country in the middle east.
The Palestinians have made no concessions and have chosen force in every situation they have been placed in.
The only way to keep the Palestinians from blowing up people in the streets of Israel was to put up a huge wall.
The Palestinian version of peace is for every Jew to be killed or driven from all of Israel.
Palestinians rejoiced in the streets everywhere after 9/11 in the US.
The Holocaust was a damned good reason for restabilishing a Jewish state, and maybe it should have been in Germany.
