Rep. Trent Franks signs onto the birther bill.

WorldNetDaily (via Dave Weigel) reports that Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) has signed onto H.R. 1503, the so-called “birther bill” that would require presidential candidates to submit copies of their birth certificates. Franks is now the 10th co-sponsor to Rep. Bill Posey’s (R-FL) legislation. Earlier this week, Franks admitted to a town hall audience that he had considered filing a lawsuit against Barack Obama on the birther issue, even though in the past, he has affirmed that the President is “a constitutionally natural-born citizen of this country.”

Memo to Franks: Be sure to ask to see Obama’s navel. He could be an alien! Fool.

Rep. Trent Franks (R-italin AZ) signs onto the birther bill.

    – - Judging by McCain’s townhall meeting, Franks is appeasing his rabid, ignorant, completely Caucasian constituents.

All this bill will do is further alienate every minority voter.

At this rate the 2012 election will be the last one inwhich the GOP is a major contedor for the white house.

Why would anyone believe anything WND prints or claims anyway?

Seems like this bill can’t be aimed at our current President, since he’s already produced his birth certificate. Right?

  12. Hoodathunk says:

Well, it sort of looks like we won’t be having any more Presidential elections. President Obama has produced the exact same thing any of these birther morons are capable of producing when it comes to birth certificates. So if that is no longer sufficient, I guess no one gets to run for President.

Or get a passport. Or sign up for Social Security. Or…

  13. gummble-bee-itch says:

Badmoodman, I saw that yesterday. Apparently, a foreskin would be proof positive Obama was born in Kenya . . . or some such stupidity.

    Heh. Good one.

I have to say these hysterical, paranoid reichwingers come up with stuff that is right out of The Onion

It would be funny if they weren’t so seriously deluded -and armed.

  16. Sam Sunset says:

On what grounds could he possibly file a lawsuit? The constitution says the president must be a natural born USC, but no regulations have been written to specify what form of proof of citizenship would be required. A passport? Certification of live birth? Certified copy of original birth certificate? There are many ways to prove citizenship. Absent any law or federal regulation specifying what documentation is acceptable or unacceptable, the notion that this a$$hole would stick his neck out even more (to look like an idiot) and proceed with a lawsuit is absurd. He would never do it because he knows he has no case.

  17. MapleStreet says:

Even after Hawaiian officials stated the validity of Obama’s birth certificate, the Repubs are fighting that battle.

Under “National Security” concerns, the repubs also pushed that birth certificates would have to be produced to get Driver’s Licenses and Voter cards.

I wonder how long it is before the repubs tie up elections as they challenge and debate the validity of each and every voter’s birth certificate – or at least the liberal voters.

  18. ElBruce says:

Honestly, I have no problem with H.R. 1503. The fact is, the way that all 50 separate state SoS’s confirm candidates for the ballot has no consistency whatsoever. If people might be concerned that a candidate might be unqualified per the Constitution, then the Federal government should create a qualifying process for documentation so such complaints don’t crop up in the future. I don’t want this “birther” crap to happen again in later elections, so let’s shore up the process so that line of legitimacy can’t be challenged again.

  19. Mike Hunt says:

I wonder if it will be made a requirement of this bill that each of its sponsors also produce a long-form birth certificate. I want to know where these lame brain anti-American wing nuts are from. Its certainly not the same United States I’ve known for more than 50 years.

  20. DavidHart says:

The funny thing about this is that, had this been in effect, Obama would have submitted the same certificate that he has provided to for the nut jobs. Since this is legally valid for a passport, it would have satisfied the terms of the proposed bill. We would be right back where we started.

  21. WaltinTexas says:

I see that absurd bumper sticker on cars/trucks- “Where’s the Birth Certificate?”
I want one that simply says, “It’s in Hawaii, idiot!”

  22. ElBruce says:

    Mike Hunt says:

I wonder if it will be made a requirement of this bill that each of its sponsors also produce a long-form birth certificate.

I wonder if nobody will be able to qualify for President in the future if they come from states that converted from paper long-form copies to microfiche years ago.

  23. dbadass says:

Well if it passes it will sure fool Kodos and Kang’s plans…

  24. Hoodathunk says:

How about we quit enabling these clowns? President Obama has the same proof of citizenship that every President elected in the past 60 years has. There are already more than enough laws defining how one proves citizenship.

What we need is to pass health care and education so that the ignorant can be educated as to how the real world works and the others can get the therapy they obviously need.

Why is it that the only President to ever be challenged on showing a birth certificate is Barack Obama who just happens to be half black? It’s so much like the slaves having to “show their papers”.

It will become a moot point unless another black runs for President. Why weren’t any other Presidents asked to “show their papers”. I do not want to see this law passed because if it is, the birthers will claim victory and point to the law as proving their case for them.

  27. fletc3her says:

It would cost Obama all of $11.50 to comply!

What I would like to know is why the Republicans are trampling all over state rights? It is currently the responsibility of the various states to check candidates qualifications for federal office. Why do the Republicans feel that it is necessary for big government to step in and check those qualifications instead? What’s next? A FEDERAL ID CARD?!?! Gun Registrations?!??!?!

Franks has to be extremely desperate to get reelected by his wingnut constituents. Whatever the reason for his stupidity – I don’t think HR 1503 is going to pass and I hope he loses his seat.

  30. ElBruce says:

It’s worth adding that they had to pass a special law in the Senate making John McCain officially a “natural born citizen,” because he was actually born in Colon, Panama which was outside of the U.S. administered Canal Zone. That’s correct, John McCain was not born on U.S. soil of any kind. Also, both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama voted for the law to change McCain’s status to a “natural born citizen,” even though he is not one according to the facts.

Damn straight. It’s like being pulled over and charged with Being President While Black. Write off another massive demographic the Republican Party will never get votes from again in our lifetimes.

    Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

I do not want to see this law passed because if it is, the birthers will claim victory and point to the law as proving their case for them.

Passing that as a law would prove nothing whatsoever, except perhaps that people like them are annoying and their kinds of arguments should be prevented in the future.

It sounds like a good idea to me solely on the grounds that there isn’t a central criteria to pass the qualifications test, and it would establish one. Seems sloppy not to close that potential loophole.

    pete says:

I think it’d go to the F.E.C. along with the various other documentation that political parties submit.

  34. pete says:

One would think the F.E.C. would do for reasonable people but, what of the Reichwhiners? What reason do they have to trust the F.E.C.?

They don’t trust the FBI, Secret Service, Pentagon, various officers of the State of Hawaii, and so on. It just seems to me that people who are inherently mistrustful of “Government”, especially when fueled by racial/political/religious fervor, will never be satisfied by any reasonable measure.

How many more disturbed Republicans in Senate or House can YOU find?

Be sure to read the Mohave Daily News link
(filing a lawsuit against Obama) covering the Kingman townhall.
After starting the meeting with a 30 minute video on the nuclear threat of Korea and Iran, Franks told the audience it would take 34,000 years to repay Obama’s debt.

And thank you, to the one, brave, lone citizen that stood up to Franks,
in that crowd of crazies, and rightly criticized him for working for the healthcare industry, working against progress, and reminded Franks that our debted economy was inherited from Bush.

    We heard your voice.

Os Trent Franks a Russian sleeper who has been awoken after all these years at this moment to bring turmoil to America?
