Today in a town hall forum in Arizona, an elderly woman asked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) whether President Obama knows “that we still live under a Constitution.” To his credit, McCain distanced himself from the questioner’s claim, saying “I’m sure that he does.” He then added that Obama “respects the Constitution of the United States,” at which point the crowd broke out in loud boos. But McCain stood firm, explaining that there’s just a “fundamental difference in philosophy and about the role of government.” “I am convinced the president is absolutely sincere in his beliefs,” he said, again eliciting boos and jeers from the crowd. Watch it:
“He is the president of the United States and let’s be respectful,” McCain said in closing. That statement was met with light applause from the crowd.

A bunch of unintellegent, moronic idiots who wrap themselves up in the American flag and call themselves patriots when they have no clue what they are talking about. These people will NEVER accept Obama because he is black. Oh, they will say he’s a ‘Socialist’ or a ‘Communist’ because they would rather believe the stupidest hair-brained theory then to flat out say thet don’t like him because they are bigots. It’s as plain as the nose on my face.
August 25th, 2009 at 3:37 pmCalling these cretins “right” is an abuse of the English language. How about calling them the angry wingnuts, or angry racists. And these people call themselves, Christians.
There are some people who are so Heavenly Bound that they are no Earthly good, this describes the so-called Christians in this country. How do you call yourself a Christian when all you do is hate, you hate Blacks, you hate Gays, you hate Hispanics, you hate the poor, you hate the needy, you hate the sick, hate, hate , hate.
All so-called Christians love is Money, and people who have money, if you talk to some all they talk about is people who have money, never about what they can do to make someone’s life better. It’s all about hatred, thats what American so-called Christinsanity is all about.

Get a 2nd job. Start a business. Quit being a parasite and look for a handout from Uncle Sammy at taxpayer expense. Get some pride. Don’t be a loser looking for cradle to grave handouts. You couldn’t be more wrong. The U. S. Constitution was formed for no less than six reasons:
You can look it up. The original document is on public display under glass at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

…except that the U.S. Constitution says otherwise. The reason for the document is stated clearly in its own preamble:
I make that six, maybe seven reasons depending on whether you count “ourselves” and “posterity” as one or two purposes. You should try actually reading the Constitution sometime, if you’re going to talk about it so much. Particularly if you’re going to claim to be in any position to educate us.

August 25th, 2009 at 4:19 pmYou’ve got to give credit where it’s due. McCain is one of the few Republicans who will even take a stab at decency.
August 25th, 2009 at 4:20 pmOh no, you cut us to the bone with that one. One thing though, Einstein, explain to us why “leftists” voted in a black president while you reptards voted for a mean spirited, not to bright, lying cranky old white man who’s been sucking off the public his entire life? August 25th, 2009 at 4:25 pmWell, these are the same people that bought Roves smears about McCain fathering a black child and having screws loose from being tortured, yet they also probably voted for him in 2008.
Is anyone surprised at the hypocrisy on display here?
August 25th, 2009 at 4:26 pmThe other think that lying sack of McCain did is accuse President Obama of doing reform as a favor to the drug lobbyists while he’s himself is doing the bidding of the insurance lobby. He makes me sick.

I guess the republican party is truly dead, eh?
August 25th, 2009 at 4:30 pmHow telling that no one can give specific examples of Obama violating the Constitution.
He expanded use of private contractors for combat. That could be something. Stated before, but he hasn’t prosecuted war crimes of the previous admin, something else. There are a few things that have been continued that violate the Constitution, but these citizens weren’t complaining when the things were started.
So maybe it’s confusing.
August 25th, 2009 at 4:30 pmHow has the Constitution been violated since January?
Does that make it easier?
I watched the entire McCain TH meeting. I have never in my life heard more ill informed comments on a specific subject. Even McCain realized that these people were completely out of touch and they were agreeing with him! How can we have any resemblance of a democracy when the people do not understand the facts of an issue?
McCain’s comments against healthcare reform were very weak to say the least. If you cannot trust a war hero to have enough integrity to at least stand up for the vulnerable in our country then we have a very sick perception of American ethical moral leadership.
I’m completely disgusted with the whole matter and I’ve never distrusted conservative motivations more.
August 25th, 2009 at 4:33 pmHate to have to drop this on you, but not everyone who doesn’t like President Obama is a racist! I’m tired of people being called racist every time they criticize President Obama. Easy to just lump everyone into the same group. Two words being used way to much lately, racist and Hilter.
Cry me a river. You folks had no trouble labeling those who disagreed with Bush as unAmerican, and terrorist-lovers. Now that the shoe’s on the other foot, you can’t wait to express your indignation. You lost. Move on.
August 25th, 2009 at 4:38 pmThe people shouting are the people among us that outright resent government. “no government for me” they say.
Well, we had that government vs. no-government argument long ago, and it was decided that no-government sucks worse than a democratic government. then the Republiscum came along. Slowly but surely, and with a big boost from bush-cheney, the Republiscum became the Regipizan that we see today. They did away with government alright, but they filled the vacuum with tyranny and fascist corporations.
August 25th, 2009 at 4:38 pmAs a former longtime resident of Arizona, as one whose parents are buried in a Sun City cemetery, I suppose I should be embarrassed. But I’m not, not really — it’s shit just like that that finally drove me out of the redneck bastion of idiocy that some still call Arizona. As for Sun City, well, it’s become nothing other than a gigantic urban sprawled conglomeration of blue-haired naysayers from all over the country who managed to land in a slot of hallowed America where selfish and greedy old farts can milk the government cow on both S.S. and Medicare, but where they don’t have to pay a cent in local taxes to support that “socialism” crap otherwise known as Public Education.
The Sun Cities of Arizona (all three of them: SC, SC-West, and SC-Grand) stand as living testimony to the FACT that the United States is, just like the bulk of SC residents, dead or dying both from the neck up AND from the neck down. Dismal place, that: a cemetery with golf courses. Yuk.

August 25th, 2009 at 5:12 pmSpot on. One of the key reasons the Articles of Confederation (blueprint for “States’ Rights” utopia) were a failure was because the federal government had no authority to levy taxes, regulate commerce, establish a uniform currency… in fact the Confederation Congress had almost no authority to do anything, and no money with which to do it anyway.

August 25th, 2009 at 5:28 pm#10 Obama has been trashing the constitution??? Noooooooooo,
August 25th, 2009 at 5:28 pmGW, Darth Cheney and Rove did that. I’m sure you were paying attention and cheered when they spied on thousands of US citizens, passed the Patriot Act, and made protesting the war illegal, besides making IP providers turn over your browsing habits and info, for no reason. That IS trashing the constitution, you retarded oaf. Stupid is as stupid does.
The repubs have decided to appeal to more fear and name calling. They haven’t (give McCain credit) as a whole attempted to move the problem solving to intelligent discussions, but have allowed mob rule and use of force and intimidation to stall any effort to solve the massive problems of the USA. Of course, they have no solutions, as they and they rich friends love how bush/cheney screwed over average Americans and they have no alternative to keeping the rich folks happy, but to keep screwing over average Americans.

August 25th, 2009 at 5:34 pmRalph, I live in Okla. I live surrounded by republicans. I grew up around them, they are my family in some cases.
Many are losing interest in what the republicans have become. What they will do I don’t know but I take it as a good sign.
It’s different when they have known you all your life and watched you raise good kids and know that just because I am a democrat that I am not the devil.
August 25th, 2009 at 5:34 pman elderly woman asked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) whether President Obama knows “that we still live under a Constitution.”
It’s not like Obama was a law student or anything….
Why do I get the feeling that 30 or 40 years ago these same people would have been yelling, “HE”S A N*****!”,
but alas because it’s 2009 they have to come up with the best alternative they can think of.
The world has changed, the past is never going to return and my opinion is some people don’t know how to deal with it.
August 25th, 2009 at 5:39 pmIt’s still hard to say, ralph and Eugene, because we haven’t seen the death of a party. The closest we’ve seen in recent history is the defection of the Dixiecrats. It’s safe to say that the Democratic party has struggled to find an identity since then but they’ve remained viable even at their lowest.
The GOoPers, on the other hand, show no signs of returning to reasoned debate. Frankly I’m surprised that not a single one has even suggested a move back towards center. Indeed, the remaining dregs seem to be unable to see how far to the extremes they’ve gone and anyone who tries to bring it up gets expelled.
I sure can’t see how they can recover with any of the current players in place. They’ve become parodies of themselves and have no substance to ground themselves with now that they’ve been slapped down. Who would have thought that the mighty “permanent majority” would turn into whiny b!tches so quickly and completely?
August 25th, 2009 at 5:43 pmSomeone once wrote that in a stable democratic society, if one candidate wins 50% plus one vote, the 50% minus one vote who voted for the opposing candidate will accept the outcome. Obama won the election by a margin of about 9 million votes, but it’s clear that the Republican base won’t accept that as a legitimate outcome.
It seems obvious that these people are enemies of American democracy. If they could get the current conservative majority on the Supreme Court to decide all future presidential elections as it did in 2000, I’ve got no doubt that they’d be OK with that.
August 25th, 2009 at 5:47 pmJohn McCain deserves credit for not one damn thing, period. This man HAD the opportunity to show true leadership after losing the presidency, but he chose to stay the man he has always been, which is a mean, cranky, opportunist.
Mr. McCain, like I has enjoyed “Government Health Care” his entire life, as a Military Dependent, an Aviator, and as a U.S. Senator. He should be the loudest of all shouting how what his colleagues are saying is bullish. But will he, hell no, because he is a bitter old loser just like the rest of his generation.
These people were fine when it was them getting all of the gov’t subsidies to move out of the crowded cities during “white flight”. It was cool to be able to sit in the front of the bus, lunch counters, movies, etc. But now that we have a new sheriff that happens to be Black its Facism, Socialism, the end of America as we all know and love it.
These are the people who so-called fought for freedom, these people despise freedom, they despise decency and respect. These are the “we’re number 1″ crowd that believes that we can do no wrong and should never apologize when we do. These are also so-called religious people who only worship money and hatred, and John McCain is one of them except when he ran against GWB.
So for anyone willing to give John McCain any sympathy I ask you to rethink that and look at his total body of work, its quite disgusting, just like those who are his constituents, colleagues, admirers, and followers.

Most liberals never lost sight of the potential for evil in big government. They have consistently opposed government power in matters of personal and political belief. Liberals are not unconcerned with economic liberty, but they have come to believe that the common good requires that social justice be given a higher priority than absolute economic freedom. Conservatives are—and always have been—on the other side of both questions. They are much more prone than liberals to limiting personal and political liberties, but they place the freedom of an individual to do as he pleases in the economic realm at the top of their concerns. Social justice has held a lower priority for conservatives, from the days of Alexander Hamilton when they favored strong government as a means of protecting their economic privileges to the days of Ronald Reagan when they see government as an instrument of social justice and therefore a threat to their economic position.
And these things must be true. Famous people said them

This is hard to disagree with, given that it sumarizes the religious right perfectly. This is why someone can execute an abortion provider, or deny societal sanction to a loving union that they define as sinful. This explains how a bunch of criminals can attempt to bomb a Middle Eastern country into democracy and call it “operation iraqi freedom”. I’m sorta missing the part where you feel this type of self-righteousness applies solely to socialism.

“Have you ever wondered why Republicans are so interested in encouraging people to volunteer in their communities? It’s because volunteers work for no pay. Republicans have been trying to get people to work for no pay for a long time.”
“Once you leave the womb, conservatives don’t care about you until you reach military age. Then you’re just what they’re looking for. Conservatives want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers.”
Broadly speaking. And generally speaking, people on…the right of center, are interested in property values, property, property rights. The rights and the rights of property. And generally speaking again – it’s all generalized – the left-of-center people are more concerned with humans and human beings and human concerns; to the care of humans, not the care and worry about property rights. That’s generally been true
August 25th, 2009 at 10:37 pmCongratulations on learning to cut and paste Dr Venture. We always knew you were too stupid to think for yourself but this is a step up from giving us a re-run of the Rush Limbaugh show

August 26th, 2009 at 3:53 amYou know, for all these people who call Obama a Nazi, a fascist, or says he doesn’t respect the Constitution, can we get some definitive proof? Maybe a non-blog, non-Fox News media site?
August 26th, 2009 at 6:10 amkwsventures since you’re so big on non government handouts…let me ask you have you ever gone to college…did you accept any financial aid? oh if you did…SOCIALIST PIG!
August 26th, 2009 at 9:30 amGood job, McCain! He always does better when he follows his own conscience and doesn’t let himself be “managed” by right-wing talking points. (They were just FULL of good ideas, weren’t they? Sarah Palin? “Pals around with terrorists?”)
I remember that McCain gave a classy concession speech at the end of the presidential campaign. If he had taken the high road instead of wallowing with the morons, I might have voted for him.

McCain handled this honestly…
I was wondering how the spambot seemed to be writing actual relevant opinions. Here is the source of that text. Apparently it’s picking up comments from other sites and dropping them in here with the links peppered throughout.
August 26th, 2009 at 6:32 pmThe debate here seems to be about conservativism being bad or not. To me the issue is whether the conservatives in the US are stupid or evil.
