Texas ‘tenthers’ plan pro-secession rally tomorrow.

texas-flagAn organization calling itself the “Texas Nationalist Movement” plans to march on the Texas capitol tomorrow to demand “Sovereignty or Secession”:

Texans will converge on Austin to deliver a petition to Restore America by Demanding our Sovereignty or we will be forced to call a vote for Secession.

This is straight out of the Declaration of Independence and our right to “alter or abolish” our government if it has, “after a long train of abuses” refused to protect the rights of the people.

At present, the Texas Nationalist Movement has a petition with 1 Million signatures directly calling for a vote of secession.

We are calling for an orderly process that will allow our federal government to fall back in line with the Constitution. We are reclaiming our states rights and our individual rights. [...]

We must stand up and be counted or we will find ourselves in another government. Either we restore America, we will live in a Marxist dictatorship, or we will secede and start over again.

The organization’s petition echoes language used by other “tenther” activists who believe that everything from Social Security to Medicare to the federal highway system violates the Tenth Amendment. According to the petition, Texas officials must either “immediately move for the restoration of the complete and unadulterated Sovereignty of Texas, explicitly adhering to the 10th Amendment wording of the U.S. Constitution,” or “move immediately for complete Secession from the United States of America.” In light of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s recent expression of support for Texas secession, the petition could receive a friendly hearing.

Austin will get a lot of good songs out of this.

Here comes the second Civil War.

  3. ElBruce says:

I hope you have more guns than the entire United States, Texas. Oh yeah, also planes, bombs, aircraft carriers and nukes.

I predict the next Civil War will last less than 24 hours.

Y’all mean the right to have only White Presidents, right?

  6. Adamkun says:

Let them secede. Then we’ll send in the army to put down the rebellion. And then I say we do to Texas what Rome did to Carthage.

  7. Krazny says:

As long as Texas takes over the debt run up by W, and military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am all for them seceding.

  8. Levi the Dungbeetle says:

Can you imagine Texas trying to defend itself against the entire US military? I mean, one cluster bomb dropped on those marching on the Texas capital, and it’s all over. Texas is an embarrassment to this country and needs a serious wingnut enema.

  9. Shayne says:

That means they lose all US government contracts right? Adios mother phu(kers.

  10. Dirty Hippie says:

We get Austin. The rest of you knuckleheads are free to go.

  11. Shayne says:

I can’t imagine Texas defending itself from a hostile takeover by drug gangs. But at least we wouldn’t be paying to fight it for them any more.

  13. ElBruce says:

    Funny part:

We are calling for an orderly process that will allow our federal government to fall back in line with the Constitution.

They’re too chickensh!t to actually back up anything they say. Remember, these are the teabaggers who wouldn’t throw their tea in the Delaware after a cop pointed out that doing so would violate environmental protection laws.

    Wait, what?

Texas officials must either “immediately move for the restoration of the complete and unadulterated Sovereignty of Texas, explicitly adhering to the 10th Amendment wording of the U.S. Constitution,”

I was just looking at the 10th Amendment, and I didn’t see a damn thing in there about “the sovereignty of Texas” or any other state.

    Amendment 10
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

    Bold added by me.

The Constitution delegates pleny of powers to the United States. In fact, most of it consists just of delegating buttloads of specific powers to the United States.

    Especially this part:

    Section 8
    The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

    To borrow money on the credit of the United States;

    To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;

The simple fact is, there has been no long train of abuses. The black guy has been in office less than 9 months. Even if you view having a black guy in charge of your government as “abuse,” it hardly constitutes a “long train” in any case.

  19. gummble-bee-itch says:

    B’bye!

Don’t forget to give back all the US property, however, including all the military bases.

    Personnel Totals

    Army 60,945
    Navy & Marine Corps 6,909
    Air Force 40,981
    Coast Guard 1,409
    Active Duty Military 108,835
    Reserve and National Guard 84,721
    Total Personnel 194,965

I guess they get to keep the National Guard, but losing more than 100,000 active duty personnel is going to be a punch to the wallet. And, naturally, we’ll be taking all the equipment. All of it. No reason to leave any in the hands of a hostile government.

And all the defense contractors. My my, there must be a lot of those.

And it looks like Texas might have some folks to care for. Almost exactly one-third of a million people on welfare. Funny, isn’t it? They’re number three after New York and California.

  20. Mike Hunt says:

Good. Leave the nation as soon as possible and be sure you take Rick Perry and Kay Bailey Hutchinson and the rest of you fanatic dimwits with you. Be sure, however, to return all of the Federal dollars that have been poured into Texas in recent years.

  21. nofltwlt says:

    Cut Texas loose.

They will love the war with Mexico when that country tries to annex them (again). Even if they remain independent they will need passports to enter our country. This will be good because we can regulate entrance to our country by redneck Texans.

  22. aquarius2 says:

Let them secede, when Mexico invades Texas to reclaim land watch them scream and cry for help from the USA. :)

  23. QuaylePLUSChenowethEQUALSPalin says:

We’ll take all the NASA $$$ and facilities too.

God, you just can’t make this shit up if you tried. If you tried to pass this off as a movie script, you would get laughed out of town.

  25. Levi the Dungbeetle says:

The government of the United States is not going to “let” Texas secede from the union over wingnut propaganda. Texas may like to talk tough, but when it comes down to it, they are totally dependant on the rest of us.

So let them try to secede, the US will send in a few units pulled out of Iraq, and Texas will surrender. Then we just arrest all the troublemakers that signed the petition, and put them in a nice education camp for their deprogramming.

  26. 5th Estate says:

So that would be 1 million people demanding

    a) no Coast Guard, NOAA warnings or FEMA at the beginning of hurricane season
    b) no FBI, ICE, INS, DEA or DHS
    c) no FAA or NTSB
    d) no more DoD or any other federal jobs, and no more minimum wage
    e) no more government handouts like food stamps. medicare, medicaid or social security benefits
    f) no more assistance to veterans
    g) no more anti-terrorism grants
    h) no more highway funds
    i) a new currency and all new trade agreements
    j) no more FDIC

  27. Shayne says:

No more Secret Service protecting Bush. And just for kicks they get booted out of the NFL and Ms. America. Texans love them some football and beauty pageants.

  28. Marie says:

So they’d like to start another civil war?
Considering their antics of late, I think I’d like to see them go. They’ll have to pay to use federal roads, their citizens would lose federal aid, their schools would lose federal dollars (they would like that, because they could teach creationism, and erase anything liberal from their text books).
So, keep it up, Texas, secede from the union and while you’re at it, take the Connecticut-blue-blood – turned-Texan, Dumbya with you.

  29. Marie says:

Is this protest against the law? Is it Constitutional?

  30. Levi the Dungbeetle says:

Bush without secret service protection equals a world without Bush.

  31. Doom Siren says:

I can’t believe the mass hysteria that has taken hold in that state. Surely they can’t be serious? I mean, this does defy all logic and reason. What they are wanting is to start another war right here on U.S. soil and engage in the killing of thier fellow Americans… and for what? Because an African-American is President?

How did it come to this?

  32. Above the Clouds says:

How do I donate to the secession efforts? Rove, Bush, and DeLay can then be labeled “foreign alien terrorists” and be detained indefinitely, tortured, and denied that wacky habeas corpus silliness.

  33. stjack says:

i’d sign a texas secession petition if they’d promise to oklahoma, or at least its congressional delegation, with them.

  34. Doom Siren says:

I would like to hope that cooler and saner heads will prevail in this matter, but when 1 million people in that state sign a petition sanctioning this madness, I’m not sure I have any faith that there are cooler and saner heads down there anymore.

  35. songoterre says:

First, I say let the crazy buggers go. But not until they’ve returned whatever money has gone to surveying or building the border fence. Use that money to build a border fence between TX and whatever bordering stats are populated by sane people. If we have to exclude the entire Old South, so be it. Good riddance. They’ve miscalculated the likely consequences of their idiotic actions even more than they’ve misinterpreted the Constitution.

BTW, nutbags: Ak-47s, bazookas, whatever—bring’em on. I’m sick of your loopy sh*t.

Let them go. I’m tired of Texans thinking they are better then everyone else. What will they do when the federal government removes all the jobs that are down there cause of the federal government? 2 in 5 texans are employed by the federal government. They are 2nd behind Maryland.

And the socialist charge. It never gets old enough for Texans. Texans get some of the oil profits socialized, like what Sarah Palin was trying to do in Alaska. I guess socialism is ok when Texans do it. What a joke they and their 10 gallon hats are.

After they form there own country they wont last long. They will invade some middle eastern country for oil and the U.S. military will not be there to defend them. Let Russia and China blow Texas off the map.

No matter how many times you post that (lacking any original thought of your own), it’s still astonishingly stupid. This is one of my favorite bits:

Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces – with Alaska reverting to Russian control.

This guy is as silly as the Texans and all those Southrons who want to replay the Civil War.

  41. timboimbo says:

I know there are a lot of very good Texans, even ones i disagree with. It’s a vast state with an interesting history. But I’m sick of brush-clearin’ blowhards talking trash.

Apparently they were just fine w/ endless deficits, torture, wiretapping, systemic, deliberate corruption of the DoJ, and endless bloody war started under false pretenses.

I propose that Texas tries secession in stages.

Stage One: Refuse to accept any Federal Funds in excess of the amounts Texans pay to the Federal government.

    Stage Two: erect border crossings.

Stage Three: remove Texas from NAFTA.

Stage Four: wait for a category four or higher hurricane to hit. Texas will be on its own.

  72. RUCerious says:

Shayne, imagine what they’d do to Sherriff Bart!!

  73. Bluestocking says:

I say, fine…let ‘em secede. Wonder how long it will take them to realize that this means any and all kinds of federal funding or protection will cease to apply to them. After all, if they’re so opposed to what they perceive as intrusions by our federal government that they wish to separate themselves from it, then they no longer deserve to claim whatever benefits they gain from it.

One thing this would mean, just for starters, is that they should be required to either purchase or turn over most of the heavy equipment belonging to the armed forces because it’s US government property and not Texas property — if they’re not part of the country anymore, then it no longer belongs to them and they have no legal or ethical right to claim it as theirs.

The Republican Party (the one to which many Tenthers belong) loves to pontificate on the importance of taking personal responsibility and accepting the consequences of one’s own choices. Well, if they’re determined to secede, this will be the perfect opportunity for them to do just that. Let’s just see how well they do at taking care of all the tasks which the federal government used to do for them. My guess is that when the consequences of their decision really start to hit home and they begin to notice ways in which they took federal services for granted or overlooked them, they might just rue their decision. However, in my opinion, it’s one thing for a foreign country to apply to the United States for aid — but it would be quite another for a state which deliberately chose to reject and separate itself from us to do so. Frankly, if a majority of Texans should choose to reject the United States and secede, then I think perhaps we should consider extending the withdrawal of aid from the federal sector into the private sector — as in, no trade between the United States and Texas. It’s not nice to bite the hand which helps feed you — so where would be the point or the virtue in rewarding them for it?

  74. Shayne says:

This could get interesting. Maybe there’ll be a war between the secessionists and the loyal Americans.

  75. Shayne says:

I meant a civil war amongst Texans.

  76. DallasNE says:

If they dispise it enough here to no longer want to be part of the union – then it’s o.k. with me. Stip them of citizenship and deport the bastards.

  79. Levi the Dungbeetle says:

It is possible that there could be violence erupting within the state of Texas itself. Unfortunate for the Republicans, the loyalists would have the full support of the United States of America.

You do not get to remove the rights of your neighbors.

Fix your Tom Delay era gerrymandering and you should be fine. That means focusing on state legislative positions first. But I do believe Texas can dig themselves out of this deep, deep hole of pure stupid. It’s just going to take some persistence and tenacity, two things of which I am assured Texas has no dearth.

If Texas decided to secede, I wonder how long it would be before people from Texas started trying to sneak across the border into the United States in the hope of getting better jobs and/or enjoying some of the benefits which they used to have when they were still US citizens…

Now that would indeed be brutally — perhaps even painfully — ironic, wouldn’t you say? Texans choosing to make the very same choices that they used to hate and vilify other people for making…

Isn’t there an old saying to the effect that the world often looks a lot different when you stand in the other person’s shoes? In my experience, people all too often find that the other man’s shoes aren’t nearly as comfortable as they’d assumed they’d be — or else they find out that they fit far too well for comfort!

We want rational Americans (like Obama) to put their heads together and get us out of the mess that the “special needs” states (like Texas) created. Don’t we get an equal chance to “not be ignored?” Because it sounds a lot to me like Texas is trying to ignore us.

It wouldn’t be long before they’d be clammoring to rejoin the Union.

I would, personally, look forward to Texans having to have a passport to cross the border into the U.S. And I guess we’ll just have to build fences between Texas and the U.S. now since they will be invaded by all those scary “illegal aliens” they hate so much. And with no federal border security guards, they’ll have to hire the Minutemen and other such militia groups. Really…it tickles me to imagine all the various comedic scenes created by their idiocy. Actually, this is called “petitioning the government” and is certainly NOT treason, until it were to evolve into actual planning and action. That action, and actual secession would be considered so. As I stated above, however, let them do so. Just withdraw all federal support, dollars, aid and so forth. Well now there is a state to brag about. The state that refused Barbara Wagner, a 64-year-old Oregon woman, the cancer medicine that she needed to fight cancer. Oregon Health Plan wouldn’t pay for it but it would pay for drugs for a physician-assisted death.

And you know for sure that a private insurance company would have gone ahead and paid $4,000 per month for a medication that “does not meet the “five-year, 5 percent rule” — that is, a 5 percent survival rate after five years.” A drug that has a success rate marginally above a placebo. When you started injecting talking points, you might have asked for a little detail that didn’t make you look stupid.

Yup that is a state that I would brag about being from. By the way the only part of that state that is Democratic is Portland, Salem, and Eugene-Springfield. and that is getting to be questionable.

You should look at the voting for November 2008 before you again look like an idiot. Pay particular attention to the central portion of the south, which voted for Obama. You should also know, if actual facts aren’t too difficult to digest, that Portland/Salem/Eugene happens to have the bulk of the state’s population. And that the Oregon GOP holds absolutely no statewide positions, hasn’t had any for years, has minority status in both houses of the legislature, and had so little money they had to give up their headquarters because they couldn’t pay the rent. Any suggestion that the Democratic lead in the state is in danger is so unbelievably stupid that even you should be embarrassed.

Try dishing out your bullsh!t around people that don’t know any better — like your fellow GOPers. Just don’t try it around people from Oregon, fool.

  172. wiley says:

Oh, this article chaps my butt. The doctor who prescribed the $4,000 dollar a month medication gave her another six months to live. That’s the median survival rate for this drug. These wing-nuts are using this as argument that the government would have “death panels” and kill people when they had a substantial chance of surviving for a long period of time with routine treatment.

Thousands die every year for lack of routine care that used to be affordable for a working class family to pay for with cash, if it were absolutely necessary. Our system stinks.

The state wasn’t encouraging to kill herself, either. They were simply informing her of an option. If you have lung cancer, have previously undergone chemo and radiation therapy, and it returns after a remission, you should consider your option.

I hate the current theme that life-threatening illness is the sole province of the elderly and people who abuse their bodies, but this woman was 64 and a heavy smoker, and all of a sudden in the wingnut world, it’s the gravest tragedy that the state didn’t pull out all the stops to save her for six months (maybe).

    Levi the Dungbeetle

So just how is wanting to secede treason. It is a states right if they get the votes from the people to do it. There is nothing that the Federal Government can do about it.

Proof? Because in the world of reality, we fought a war in the 19th Century the last time states tried. Where is the wording in the Constitution that says, “If a state gets sick of being in the union, they just call a mulligan, and walk away.”

The United States Supreme Court ruled in Texas v. White, 74 U.S. 700 (1869), that while the union was “perpetual” and that secession ordinances were “absolutely null,” membership nevertheless could be revoked “through revolution, or through consent of the States.”

So if the rest of us decide we’re sick of Texas, we will be happy to wave goodbye, right after the state returns all the federal property they’re sitting on, and start squabbling with Mexico about whether they really had the right to steal that land in the first place–and they’ll have to do it without the US military.

Obama, if they DO secede, don’t you DARE try to be a second Lincoln and instigate a war to “preserve the union.” There is absolutely nothing better in this world than to watch Texas dig its own grave by trying to be its own nation. We don’t NEED Texas, nor the rest of the south. If anything, we NEED them to secede.

The state that refused Barbara Wagner, a 64-year-old Oregon woman, the cancer medicine that she needed to fight cancer. Oregon Health Plan wouldn’t pay for it but it would pay for drugs for a physician-assisted death.

Yep, and then we fixed the loophole that exactly one person fell into. But at least we’re trying. Wherever you live, you’re happy to let unnamed people die left and right for no reason at all. Our “Death With Dignity” and “Medical Marijuana” laws have been administered responsibly for years, and all of the chicken-little predictions the right wing complained about have failed to come true. Check this out:

In Oregon, meanwhile, just 541 prescriptions for lethal medications were written during the years 1998-2007, and only 341 people died using them (compare that with 85,755 Oregonians who died from the same underlying diseases during the same period). Annual reports, which the law requires the state to publish, show that those numbers don’t reflect greater use among demographically disadvantaged groups, as opponents of the law argued would happen. Claims that physicians and families would abuse the law appear to be unfounded.

We don’t kill anybody. But if a terminally ill person wants to choose how they go out and is consistent through counseling and therapy, then we won’t stop them. And we’ve carefully monitored to make sure we aren’t creating an incentive or trend towards any form of euthanasia. The factual results continue to bear our approach out.

    .

    Outlaw284 says:

By the way the only part of that state that is Democratic is Portland, Salem, and Eugene-Springfield. and that is getting to be questionable.

Before I lived here, I lived in Washington State. They both work pretty much the same – over 70% of the population is left-wing and lives on the West side of the Cascade mountain range, which cuts each state vertically down the center. The remaining 30% trends right-wing and lives in the flat East side, which basically amounts to the West edge of the Great Plains region. But Oregon is hardly trending-conservative overall, no more than Washington is.

I’ve always thought it would be much more reasonable for Western Washington and Western Oregon to join as a single state, and let Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon create their own state as well. At least the East-siders would have fair representation in the Senate. And the West-siders could stop having to deal with bible-thumping wingnuts encroaching on our Cascadian utopia.

You know the right-wing method of repeatedly attacking various regions of America as being “unamerican” is merely serving to exclude you from the greater portion of the country, right? What happen in the U.S. between 1940 and 2007? The Great Society, a U.S. Federal welfare program, happened around 1965. If the Texas Nation has to end the U.S. Federal welfare programs, the Texas Nation might find that some of the importance of the family is restored and regained.

When bitblt brings the stupid, it’s difficult to find a competitor. Of course, nothing happened between 1940 and 2007 except the Great Society. Nothing. So, naturally, everything would be perfect and wonderful if we all just magically returned to 1940 (ignore WWI, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Civil Rights, etc etc etc).

And, heck and gosh, if one-third of a million Texans have to eat dirt because welfare has dried up, the rest will be stronger as a result. Of course, they’ll also lose a lot of income when all those military bases close, and when they lose all their defense contracts, but what the heck? They’ll still magically have family values!

In 1860, the worse that could happen to a seceding state was that it could be invaded and conquered by men with rifles on horseback.

Today, what could happen to a seceding state is that it gets set free to fend off agressive foreign neighbors by itself, gets thrust into the world economy with an unproven government and currency, is invaded by men on APCs carring battle rifles, gets its infrastructure blown up by precision laser guided missiles, or at an extreme, has a close encounter with either fission or fusion and a new sun rises over that state. There are so many ways we could f*** over the troll and his side that it’s amusing to think of how some could go. But hey. Go for it. Perfect example of why Texas should secede.

That would be an incredible boost to the US economy and fund health care for all, knock a big fat dent in the deficit, Bush and Cheney’s tyrannical legacy would be null and void and their books would banned books in the US. No more US military bases or help they would have to hand over all DOD arms and WMD’s. And they would have to handle all the illegal immigrants.

We get to watch a bunch of conservatives maim each other and rob from each other all, while blaming each other for their misdeeds. That would provide great fodder for MSM.

    McCain (R): 738,475 – 40%

Have you ever even been to Oregon? I’ve lived here, this time, for 25 years. I lived here in the late 1950s and again in the early 70s. You, on the other hand, appear never to have crossed the state line.

As to your totally stupid claim about the state not having any industry. What do you call the Timber Industry or the Fishing Industry or the farming or the wine. That state could survive with no problem without those citys and the people in them. So by all means keep bragging about what you think you know about the state of Oregon. Or should I say don’t know.

Timber and fishing is dead in Oregon, and has been for a long time. That’s the reason the economy has been so depressed in southern Oregon for decades, and why Congress had to create a special benefit to help out those counties which had been devastated by the loss of jobs.

The wine “industry” is healthy enough, but hardly sufficient to sustain an economy — and, for your information, it is focused on the Willamette Valley which is exactly the region you are so contemptuous of.

And why do you keep ignoring the information provide by ElBruce and myself about the state of the Democratic and Republican parties in this state? Oh, that’s right, because it doesn’t fit your fantasy about a state you know absolutely nothing about. Just like you’ve ignored the population map I linked to that should make clear, even to someone so deeply ignorant as yourself, that it’s a great big state and the majority of the population lives in just the region you keep claiming doesn’t matter.

Give it up and pretend you didn’t say anything at all about Oregon, because you truly have no frickin’ idea what you’re talking about.

No sales tax, but there is an income tax. Thanks to tax “activists” — and the collapse of the timber industry (which appears to have escaped Outwitted284) — the southern part of the state has taken it in the shorts and have had trouble keeping libraries open. Sure, we’ve got a lot of linux development going on here, as well as Norton, but seeing as we’re located pretty evenly between Seattle and San Francisco, you’d think we’d be reaping a lot more tech industry than we are.

PS: I personally think it’s awesome how we’re turning this thread into a discussion of a far more interesting state than Tejas.

OK Texas here’s what you lose by leaving the United States:

    1) You own almost no oil or gas. The rights to almost all of your natural resources were sold to international conglomerates. Any attack on pipelines or infrastructure would be considered an act of war.

    2) You have no currency, and nothing to back it with (see item #1). The federal reserve in Fort Worth? Gone.

    3) You have no military. All the military bases and equipment (and federal funding dollars) will leave. NO more NASA, military contractors or colleges.

    4) You will have no diplomatic relations on this continent. You are not part of NAFTA, the WTO, and are not recognized by the United Nations. No country will do business with you nor extend you a line of credit because you have nothing of value to back it up with. So, no international trade.

    5) You will have no telephone or internet access. How many satellites does Texas own? ANYTHING that connects you to the other lower 47 is now severed.

    6) You will have no electricity since most of your electricity is generated by coal which would have to be imported from the United States.

    7) All the corporations whose headquarters are currently located in Texas will have to leave, such as General Motors and Bell Helicopter. Along with their equipment. And those jobs.

    8) You will be responsible for defending your own borders. So good luck with that.

Stop acting like five year olds or we will give you what you want. Lord Jesus, please forgive me, but I hate stupid people.

When one state makes war on another, all previous agreements and treaties are nullified.

When one state surrenders to another after making war, they cannot, they do not, expect prior treaties to be upheld. That’s what it means to surrender.

When Texas surrendered to the United States, all previous treaties were voided. Texas has no more “right to secede” due to a previous treaty with the United States than does Germany have to the Sudetenland because of a prior treaty with Czechoslovakia.

  286. Rich H says:

    Outlaw284 says:

I am sorry that you don’t know anything about the southern part of the state you live in…

I didn’t say I didn’t know anything about it. SW OR is a weird patchwork of super-hippy liberal vs. ex-logger conservative. Talk about your clash of extremes! I mean, the Baghwan set up shop there. There’s honest-to-God hippie communes down there to this day, relics of the 60’s who migrated North from Cali. The Ashland Shakespeare Festival. “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” was based in Salem. Seriously, to try to characterize that whole area as being politically – anything – would be sheer insanity.

Or the sort of thing that a poser with Internet access would try to do… although why is beyond me.

But Portland’s politics still dominate the state, which is the original point you were trying to discredit, and which you have failed to do.

Look dude, if I lived in Texas, even if I was in Austin, I’d admit on the Internet that the state as a whole went in a political direction that I disagreed with. I wouldn’t try to convince conservatives that Texas was really liberal.

You’re trying to do the reverse of that. And frankly, it’s a really, really retarded thing to do.

Business is business after all. — Druthers

    *********************************************************

I stand by what I said in an earlier post — if Texas secedes, they ought to be regarded and treated as a hostile nation (or at the very least, a neutral nation). After all, the whole issue of secession supposedly revolves around their hatred for the U.S. government and their desire to turn their backs upon it — how much more clear does it need to be that this would not be a nation that we could really consider an ally (certainly not at first)? As I said before, it’s one thing for most foreign countries to request aid or trade agreements from the United States — quite another, in my opinion, for a nation of people who chose to deliberately reject and dissociate themselves from the United States to do so. Business is business, yes…but why reward people for biting the hand which used to help feed them? I know, I know — it’s not as if we’ve never done it before — but it almost always proves to be more trouble than it’s worth.

Consider another historical precedent apart from the Civil War. The United States and the United Kingdom technically shared borders for several decades following the Revolution — but even though we engaged in trade with them. we did not regard each other as allies. For one thing, we were also engaging in trade with Napoleonic France as we had every right to do — but the British were at war with the French, and they tried to prevent this. They were also concerned that the expansion of our merchant marine fleet might pose competition to their own maritime empire. As well as giving support to the Native Americans in their efforts to resist westward expansion by the United States, the British were also forcibly recruiting U.S. citizens into the Royal Navy (although to be fair, the Americans were welcoming Royal Navy deserters into the U.S. merchant marine fleet). Ironically and paradoxically, British and American relations improved in the aftermath of the War of 1812.

Oh I see. You are one of those who support spending $100,000 in the last 6 months of someone’s life when there is no hope for recovery.

My daughter’s mother-in-law died of ovarian cancer. There was no hope for her. But in the last six months of her life her doctors ordered over $50,000 in tests and treatments even though they knew she would die any day. And now the health care providers are coming after my daughter and son-in-law to pay the unpaid portions of those bills, even though they had nothing to do with incurring the bills. This woman never got around to end-of-life counseling and didn’t have a living will. That made it impossible for my daughter and her husband to refuse these treatments and test.

Oh, BTW, her physician was part owner in the facility she was in and the lab that did all the testing. Talk about a conflict of interest.

Blue States: Ready for a Less Progressive TaxCode?

“Spending does lean red, but the reason is demographic, not political. Most federal money is spent on retirees, especially Social Security and Medicare. And of course the elderly have been moving south and west for years. Every large blue state saw its elderly population depleted during the late 1990s. As might be expected, red Florida and Arizona took in many of the elderly, but they weren’t alone. Almost every Mountain and Southern state expanded its elderly population.”

“Despite the red dominance of retirement destinations, the spending tilt toward red states isn’t extreme. The ten states where Uncle Sam spent the least money per capita in 2003 include three solid reds — Utah, Georgia and Indiana; two solid blues – New Jersey and Illinois; and five battleground states — one barely red, Nevada and four barely blue, New Hampshire, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.”

“Which brings us to the real culprit: high blue-state income taxes.
States with the highest incomes per capita — and they’re all solid blue — pay much higher federal taxes per capita. An income of $132,000 in San Francisco buys the same standard of living as $71,000 in Phoenix, but when it’s time to fill out the 1040, the San Francisco family pays 17.3 percent of its income in federal income taxes. That’s $22,812, almost triple the national median. Meanwhile, the Phoenix family pays $7,576, about $400 less than the median. A similar comparison could be drawn of Boston and Atlanta, not to mention New York and almost anywhere.”

    http://www.taxfoundation.org/news/show/75.html

The foolishness of the secession idea aside, surely you don’t fault red states for their elderly residents or for blue state’s high tax rates?

  385. Rich H says:

    Upright Left,

Of course not. I don’t mind paying taxes. And I don’t mind when they are used for the common good. I was responding to a poster who said Texas was a “donor” state. That doesn’t jibe with any stat I’ve seen.

“When Texas became one of the United States, she entered into an indissoluble relation. The union between Texas and the other States was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, except through revolution or through consent of the States.

“…The obligations of the State, as a member of the Union …remained perfect and unimpaired. …the State did not cease to be a State, nor her citizens to be citizens of the Union.

“…Our conclusion therefore is, that Texas continued to be a State, and a State of the Union.”

It’s also referred to as “Boeing”, because Boeing bought McDonnell-Douglas in the mid 90s.

Boeing, and hence MD, doesn’t have to relocate if TX seceeds; Boeing isn’t headquartered there. Boeing corporate HQ is in Chicago, and the MD product line HQ is still in St. Louis.
All they’d have to do is pull the plug on their facilities in the state, unless they want to do a deal with the Tejanos new federal masters in Mexico DF. I think Lockheed-Martin has more of a problem because I believe their General Dynamics division is still headquartered in Ft. Worth.

Same thing is true for a few others on the list. They may have major facilities in TX, but they aren’t incorporated there nor headquartered there. Dell has a problem; they’re still centered in Round Rock.

Of course, if there’s a Douglas TX and there’s a Mickie Dee’s there, they might have to change their menu to TexMex & Spanglish from Low Texas PsuedoEnglish. But they don’t have to move.

The first one, which I don’t remember, was when I was born, and the second one, also not recalled, was at age three when my parents relocated to northern NM. I’ve since spent a couple of years back in TX, in El Paso, but the general scuzziness of the place didn’t really effect me much because I spent most of my waking time at work. Been away from TX since 2002, back in northern NM, where the politics and the climate are somewhat more congenial.

Sorry it does seem I and others toss out blanket statements in response to “National news media” on Texas and their politicians…

My only excuse is that if all we see is the negative and no one from Texas is refuting these assertions loud and clear…then some of us…like me i’m guilty…have knee jerk reactions to the lack of reasoning and sanity behind all these reports.

With no dissenting voice we assume passive silence is akin to agreement with these inane assertions.

  415. Virtual Pebble says:

    412. beebee08 sez: Wow so because a bunch of lunatics want to do this you all generalize what ALL Texans want?

I think it’s called hyperbole, BB, although there may be some who really wish that TX would go away. Most of us could probably do without the secessionist crazies, and maybe even some of us recognize that there’s more to TX than the crazies.

On the other hand, they are bizarrely entertaining and some of us are in states where there’s nothing quite so fracking publicly nutty. I just hope this silliness doesn’t spread to SE NM because I may be moving there shortly, and when Texas gets the drunken dizzies, ‘Little Texas’ gets the dry heaves.

  416. Xisithrus says:

Good point, evangenital, but I wouldn’t get up on any high horse soon. I’m from the SW and we have a fair number of political crazies in this state, NM, and in every adjacent state, but the very first honest-to-god real deal righty crazy I ever met was in Mount Vernon NY. This was some years ago; guy was a Minute Man, not one of the present day border bozos, but the armed wing of the John Birch Society kind of Minute Men; guys like that went on to become survivalists and righty militia types.

Anyway, there are still wackos in the NE and Mid-Atlantic states, as evidenced by that ambush of police officers recently, plus that unconcealed carry business outside President Obama’s NH townhall, so throwing TX and the south out of the Union won’t really solve the problem. There are realistic solutions but I’m not inclined to spoil a venting session any more than I already have.

Heh. NM will probably have passport inspection and immigration control stations on TX’s west side (our east side).

We’ve frequently been mistaken for being part of our sourthern neighbor so it won’t take us long to gear up for that. Since our state tourism department is frequently asked whether a passport or visa is required to visit NM, they’ll be mighty relieved to finally be able to say, “Yes, if you arrive from Texas.”

    THE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT (2010-2050)

    (THE DEMOGRAPHICS)

The fact of the matter is that the North American Continent between (2010-2050) will become a Demographically, Third World Country, that is simply the pure stated facts even excepted and stated by William “Bubba” Bill Jefferson Clinton. Now, since the discovery of the New World, along with establishing fact that the World was a Sphere, complete families have packed up lock, stock and barrel to move to wear they felt they had a chance for a better life for both themselves and the generations that were to follow them, often leaving everything, and everyone they knew and loved behind. Those areas which were once separate Republics or Territories chose to unite with others to become what they saw as the promise of a first rate if not the number one nation upon the face of the globe. But, Bigger has in fact turned out not to be better, and the map of the North American Continent will, as the map of Europe, change along with the demographics and decline of the Empire.

(THE MAP OF CHANGE / SECESSION)

It has come to the time when a collision between, the many groups under the umbrella, of the growing Take Back America Movement, and the Empire, will begin, bringing with it the Map of Change to the North American Continent. No, group or groups of peoples simply stands by as their standard of living and work that has been generation upon generation in the making goes down the drain, do to a failed system of government, but will either over throw that system or simply separate by Secession from it. Bigger has proven not to be better, and much like the Old World change will happen, Old Republics will once again be upon a new North American Map, The Republic of Alaska, The Republic of California, The Republic of Texas, The Confederate States of America, etc., and how that effects the present Global Community is financially, it is now the time to take steps to end the (Empire Dollar) based World Community of Nations, Economic Structure, Europeans understand this process, and have been thru it many time, the Former Soviet Republic of Georgia just one of the latest, and as with Vietnam the (U.S. Empire’s) is interfering in normal historic change, which will fail as will its Blood for Oil Wars upon the Islamic Crescent.

(A NEW ECONOMIC BASE CURRENCY TIME)

It has come time for the Worlds Economic Community to come to the common sense conclusion that nothing last forever and no Empire lasts forever, and based upon that, the single (Empire Based), currency is not in the best interests of the Worlds Economic Community of Nations, especially since that of the ( U.S. Empire) which will be a, Third World Currency, of a Third World County, if it still remains, in tack which as history has shown time and time again is very unlikely, when an Empire fall’s its like Humpty Dumpty, after his fall, all the King’s Horses and All The King’s Men, Couldn’t Put Humpty Dumpty, Back Together Again! The Empire is made up of (NYC/NYSE) New York City, The New York Stock Exchange (Wall St.), The (AIPAC/AZC) American Israel Public Affairs Committee/American Zionist Council, a (100K) One-hundred membership neo-conservative Jewish [LOBBYISTS GROUP] group, connected to various caucus members of influential members of the Empire’s pro-Israel lawmakers, and their hired hand (544/DC) Five-Hundred-Forty-Four, Dumb Democratic and Crooked Republican electorate who have not only forgotten who rules when it comes to a show down, between (Wall St., & The Beltway Vs Main St.), in today era these boys could be shown maps or globes, even be flown around this Blue Sphere, but view themselves as Gods, and the World Community is there oyster!!! And, the Republics and Terror ties which formed The United States of America will form the New North American Map.

COMMON SENSE DICTATES A NEW BASE LINE CURRENCY!!!

When i was a young woman in 1940 we were at war with Japan. We stood together and cared for each other as a nation. We all pulled together, men going to war and women building the planes for war . I ask this question ? if we were attacked today by N. Korea or some other country what would happen if the South is against the North and the East against the West or say Democrates are against the Republicans or visa versie and we are hit with a Bomb? If it were hit in the North is the South and East and West going to just sit there and let our fellow Americans fight alone? What if it hit the South are people in the North or East or West going to say,” Good ridance, let the scum bags face it alone.”? Wheather you believe it or not we all still need each other. We are still as a nation also a family. It would be to all our benifits if we would learn to give and take. Lets quite calling each other names like 2nd graders and try to see each others side of things. Both sides do not have to have every thing they wont all the time absolutely their own way and no other way will do. Thats how kids act. This country should run like a marriage between the Democrate and Republican Parties where there would be some give and take on both sides till every one is reasonably happy and can live with the results.

The way the Constitution is written has served us well for many years. Should we as a nation throw out the baby with the bath water so to speak when there is a problem? The Constitution is like the baby. Let us work together on the problems fellow Party Democrates and Party Republicans but let us also keep our Constitution and not cut out any of its parts . If we cut parts out of the Constitution it would lose it’s power as a legal document and we as a nation would lose our uniqueness.

As a matter of History, Texas never wanted any part of Slavery or the Slaves. This mis-information about Texas being a slave state comes from a provision allowing slave owners from the U.S. to come into Texas with their slaves. The citizens of The Republic never bought nor sold any slave in Texas. Those slaves that were here were brought in by owners who were originally not Texians, but came asking to become citizens. Below is that section of the General Provision of the Constitution of The Republic which addresses the admittance of people from the U.S.:

SEC. 9. All persons of color who were slaves for life previous to their emigration to Texas, and who are now held in bondage, shall remain in the like state of servitude: provided, the said slave shall be the bona fide property of the person so holding said slave as aforesaid. Congress shall pass no laws to prohibit emigrants from the United States of America from bringing their slaves into the republic with them, and holding them by the same tenure by which such slaves were held in the United States; nor shall congress have power to emancipate slaves; nor shall any slave-holder be allowed to emancipate his or her slave or slaves, without the consent of congress, unless he or she shall send his or her slave or slaves without the limits of the republic. No free person of African descent, either in whole or in part, shall be permitted to reside permanently in the republic, without the consent of congress, and the importation or admission of Africans or negroes into this republic, excepting from the United States of America, is forever prohibited, and declared to be piracy.

SEC. 10. All persons, (Africans, the descendants of Africans, and Indians excepted,) who were residing in Texas on the day of the declaration of independence, shall be considered citizens of the republic, and entitled to all the privileges of such. All citizens now living in Texas, who have not received their portion of land, in like manner as colonists, shall be entitled to their land in the following proportion and manner: Every head of a family shall be entitled to one league and labor of land, and every single man of the age of seventeen and upwards, shall be entitled to the third part of one league of land. All citizens who may have, previously to the adoption of this constitution, received their league of land as heads of families, and their quarter of a league of land as single persons, shall receive such additional quantity as will make the quantity of land received by them equal to one league and “labor” and one-third of a league, unless by bargain, sale, or exchange, they have transferred, or may henceforth transfer their right to said land, or a portion thereof, to some other citizen of the republic; and in such case the person to whom such right shall have been transferred, shall be entitled to the same, as fully and amply as the person making the transfer might or could have been. No alien shall hold land in Texas, except by titles emanating directly from the government of this republic. But if any citizen of this republic should die intestate or otherwise, his children or heirs shall inherit his estate, and aliens shall have a reasonable time to take possession of and dispose of the same, in a manner hereafter to be pointed out by law. Orphan children, whose parents were entitled to land under the colonization law of Mexico, and who now reside in the republic, shall be entitled to all the rights of which their parents were possessed at the time of their death. The citizens of the republic shall not be compelled to reside on the land, but shall have their lines plainly marked. All orders of survey legally obtained by any citizen of the republic, from any legally authorized commissioner, prior to the act of the late consultation closing the land offices, shall be valid. In all cases the actual settler and occupant of the soil shall be entitled, in locating his land, to include his improvement, in preference to all other claims not acquired previous to his settlement, according to the law of the land and this constitution: Provided, That nothing herein contained shall prejudice the rights of any citizen from whom a settler may hold land by rent or lease. And whereas, the protection of the public domain from unjust and fraudulent claims, and quieting the People in the enjoyment of their lands, is one of the great duties of this convention; and whereas the legislature of Coahuila and Texas having passed an act in the year eighteen hundred and thirty-four, in behalf of general John T. Mason, of New York, and another on the fourteenth day of March, eighteen hundred and thirty-five, under which the enormous amount of eleven hundred leagues of land has been claimed by sundry individuals, some of whom reside in foreign countries, and are not citizens of the republic, which said acts are contrary to articles fourth, twelfth, and fifteenth of the laws of eighteen hundred and twenty-four of the general congress of Mexico, and one of said acts, for that cause has, by the said general congress of Mexico, been declared null and void: It is hereby declared that the said act of eighteen hundred and thirty-four, in favor of John T. Mason, and of the fourteenth of March, eighteen hundred and thirty-five, of the said legislatue of Coahuila and Texas, and each and every grant founded thereon, is, and was from the beginning, null and void; and all surveys made under pretence of authority derived from said acts are hereby declared to be null and void; and all eleven-league claims, located within twenty leagues of the boundary line between Texas and the United States of America, which have been located contrary to the laws of Mexico, are hereby declared to be null and void; and whereas many surveys and titles to land have been made whilst most of the people of Texas were absent from home, serving in the campaign against Bexar, it is hereby declared that all the surveys and locations of land made since the act of the late consultation closing the land offices, and all titles to land made since that time, are and shall be null and void. And whereas the present unsettled state of the country and the general welfare of the people demand that the operations of the land offices and the whole land system shall be suspended until persons serving in the army can have a fair and equal chance with those remaining at home to select and locate their lands, it is hereby declared that no survey or title which may hereafter be made shall be valid, unless such survey or title shall be authorized by this convention or some future congress of the republic. And with a view to the simplification of the land system, and protection of the people and the government from litigation and fraud, a general land office shall be established, where all the land titles of the republic shall be registered, and the whole territory of the republic shall be sectionized, in a manner hereafter to be prescribed by law, which shall enable the officers of the government or any citizen to ascertain with certainty the lands that are vacant, and those lands which may be covered by valid titles.

The Government of the Republic of Texas has always co-existed with it’s sister U.S. State government. It isn’t a shadow left wing or right wing government, and those born in Texas with ancestry to the beginning of the Republic know this. The U.S. State of Texas is well aware of this too. Generally Texans do not want to separate from their sister states, merely limit the Federal Government which is every Citizens right under both their State and U.S. Constitution. It isn’t a matter of Left or Right-Democrat or Republican, they’ve been in bed together a long time before stripping away the freedoms and rights of the individual in each of their repective states.
There is a solution or reform if you will to caring for our people, no matter their status in our society. It is up to We The People to Take care of our own, without the intervention of a government who will arbitrarily take and spend your hard earned $$ in a manner that is wasteful and one that lines their pockets..from now til?
Even if the Healthcare bill passed tomorrow, the same millions who are uninsured (they do have publicly funded options, don’t know about your state, but here in Texas they do)would not have an “Insurance Policy” for another 3-7 years by the time implementation begins. This is a huge undertaking and a whole new agency by the government. We can’t afford to go into a new poorly administered program. We need to focus instead our efforts on reforming both Medicare and Medicaid as a “Social” form of insurance (gov programs-which work when the powers that be quit borrowing the monies and not repaying them) Working on reforming or initiating tiers in these two programs, eradicating those who are supposedly overseeing the budgets – assigning those who really do have the people’s best interest as their mission. We can overhaul and reform quicker than it would be to implement a whole new program and set aside the monies for it. (We supply a ton of $$ to the existing Fed programs now.) Use it/manage it wisely, stop allowing the Feds to borrow from it. Then…and this is a good one: Regulate the hell out of the Insurance Industry…They are the problem and “they” co-exist with EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE CONGRESS, Not one congressman, senator has ever refused the special interest money from them. Has no one ever wondered why the Government can manage many, many huge corporations and yet not one entity in the government has EVER put real oversight or regulations upon the Insurance Industry or their “Holders”
All this back and forth “We’re Right” “Your Wrong” is exactly the issue our government wants us to focus on, this way they maintain their control over all facets of our income producing endeavors.

Everyone please step back, take a deep breath and say hey…we can do this ourselves, we don’t need a new “Daddy” we are grown people.

That would be a true statement with a little modification. Something like: Christians must support some of the goals, though not necessarily the means, of the progressive agenda.

Fair enough. But they don’t support any of the means either. The right wing is literally advocating the side of pure evil in every issue.

No, group or groups of peoples simply stands by as their standard of living and work that has been generation upon generation in the making goes down the drain, do to a failed system of government, but will either over throw that system or simply separate by Secession from it.

The system of government isn’t what’s failing. Some of the populace is failing themselves, by buying into complete insanity. They are free to stop, or leave.

Man, one can turn pretty much anything into a complete and utter crazy-thon by throwing currency valuation into the issue. It seems like nobody understands it but everybody’s get their own extremely creative theory.

If mass-seceding will bring us to Third World status (and I agree that it would) then perhaps we should just not do that. Problem solved.

No such thing exists, nor has it for over 160 years. Stop pretending there is such a thing. That would be like me claiming the Roman empire is still in effect.

If we specify by statute the minimum of how will provide for the general welfare, then that guarantees that it’s not administered in an arbitrary fashion. As opposed to right-wingers donating to a televangelist and then claiming they made a charitable donation to help people, which is what happens now.

I mean, just listen to yourself: “let’s not help each other, let’s just help each other!” You’re literally claiming that we can do what isn’t being done by continuing to not do it. You’re advocating a double-blind fallacy solely to prevent real people from actually getting any real help.

  467. ezaxs99 says:

More Fodder; Everyone stay focused “Off Issue” with the U.S.Gov right now!

Is Texas part of the United States?

    Absolutely not!

There are over 2800 pages clearly confirming the fact that Texas never acceded to become a part of the United States or of the united States of America. There are many appearances that Texas is a State of the Union, however the State of Texas and the United States both know differently, as neither can produce a signed Treaty of Annexation.

There was a proposed Treaty, but the Senate did not approve it because of Texian demands.

At a later date, the Texian people voted down the annexation by a 2:1 margin. By the Law of Nations, annexation treaties must be unanimous by those annexed for annexation to be valid.

THE STATE OF TEXAS is, in law and bylaw, a business corporation that acts in collusion with the UNITED STATES corporation, another business.

Where is the Constitutional United States of America?

Corrupt politicians, in 1845, abandoned the Republic of Texas and appeared to join the United States business corporation. This was done for their personal gain.

The facts don’t support the assumption that Texas is a State of the Union.

Further, Texas has foreign embassies in eight foreign countries, and has treaties with foreign nations that are still recognized today.

The STATE OF TEXAS (Case # 95-1002) and THE HAGUE INTERNATIONAL COURT (Case # 94135) recognize the republic of Texas as a Sovereign Nation.

What is meant by sovereign person/people?

The Declaration of Independence and Constitution recognized and clearly stated that the government was created by “We the People”–the Sovereigns. The government is the created entity and derives its power from the people. It does not rule the people (unless the people give their permission to be ruled).

The land of Texas was given “to the people forever”; the people, not to the government!

There is no document in existence showing that the people gave the land to the government (by the terms of the treaty, it could not be taken by the government).

After the Revolutionary War King George gave the lands and Sovereignty to the American People – not the US Government. If you read and study the Constitution to the slightest degree, you will find that every one of “We the People” as individuals each have the power of 1200 presidents, congressmen, or judges be they local, federal, or the Supreme Court.

The Republic of Texas believes that the People should know these facts and take appropriate steps to hold their government and its agents responsible for their collective and individual breaches of duty.

A sovereign person is one from whom the government derives its authority. A sovereign assumes responsibility for their own actions and welfare. A sovereign does not look to the government to guide their life, provide their sustenance, health care, or myriad government services paid for by stealing money from other sovereigns to pay for those who don’t want to assume responsibility for their own well being.

The Sovereigns of the Republic of Texas understand that the best government is the one that governs the least.

Look at the current government of the UNITED STATES. Before its representatives voted in a central bank (the Federal Reserve, a privately owned monopoly)the US Government was among the wealthiest in the world.(see Karl Marx‘s Communist Manifesto Plank number 5)

After 91 years of depressions, recessions, and inflationary periods, the UNITED STATES is the world’s biggest debtor, and can not possibly pay the creditors, because the UNITED STATES has no money, only paper. The UNITED STATES has no currency of its own, it must borrow every dollar used from The Federal Reserve (not a government agency, but a private, for profit, corporation that pays no taxes on its profits).

The creditors control the country, instead of We the People(and you wondered why taxes are always increasing and wages are not keeping pace). The creditors understand that
in a democracy, the masses will always vote for the best government handout, thereby strengthening the creditors position of control over the government and the people.

The Republic of Texas Constitution provides for gold and silver as tender of payment for debt.

Having seen the consequences of paper or fiat currency, the Republic strictly abides by all its constitutional provisions regarding gold and silver.

Heard that the Republic of Texas is a white supremacy militia group, who believe that they are above the law. Is that true?

    Quite the contrary.

The republic of Texas Nation’s Black, Latino, Indian, and Caucasian Sovereign Citizens will tell you that our nation stands alone in its capacity to provide knowledgeable law abiding men and women, of any color and creed who believe in the law and government as established by the Texas American’s organic Constitutions – government of the People, by the People, for the People. We believe in responsibility and freedom.

An integral part of our foundation is the fact that I as a representative of the republic have no right to tell you how to live your life. Further, I can not get 10,000 people to join me and thereby subject you to my point of view and way of life because you are in the minority. Conversely, no group of 10,000 people acting under some supposed authority have the right to tell me how to think and act either.

We respect the rights of our fellow man and understand that our rights are given to us by our Creator, not our government. Our Creator gave each of us the same Unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness (among them – these are not our only rights). We believe in the fundamental tenet shared by all religions (and common sense) ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you‘.

My rights are inviolable and stop at the point that I infringe on your rights, and vice versa. Among one’s rights are not included the right to have something that one has not earned, yet is being provided by some politician who stole it from another under the guise of a tax, to give to someone who will vote for them.

As stated in the Constitutions, We the People are the government, and those who hold positions in government office are the servants of the People – not the Peoples’ ruler. How can the created (government) tell the creator (We the People) what to do and how to live our lives? Simply put, we believe in “truth in government”.

Plutarch, the Greek philosopher said over 2000 years ago “The real destroyer of liberties of any people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations, and largesse.”

As you read the following, please keep in mind what Thomas Jefferson said:

“Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of a day. But a series of oppressions,…pursued unalterably through every change of ministers, too plainly proves a deliberate systematic plan of reducing us to slavery.”

I am always amazed when I hear someone tell me how great it is to live in the land of the free and they are not allowed to marry, drive a car, operate a business, build a house, change out a water heater, install new windows, or have a pet in their private home without obtaining a license. After obtaining a license (revenue generating act under the guise of being protected) they then have to pay taxes on their earnings and sales tax on almost everything they buy.

They have been indoctrinated in the government school system to believe that paying half of everything one earns in the form of fees and taxes is not a form of slavery. Further, the ‘Land of the Free” has the highest per capita rates in the world of the following: incarceration, police and lawyers.

Crime is the leading growth industry in the UNITED STATES! Unconstitutional confiscation of property by government (not authorized by the Constitution), and many not-even-actual-government-agencies, is a multi-billion dollar per year industry.

In fact, confiscation laws allow government instrumentalities to take property without warrants, criminal charges, or convictions – just the agency or instrumentality’s whim. When a government officer, whether elected or appointed, takes their position, they swear an oath to uphold the Constitution. That officer should uphold that oath or be held accountable for not upholding it. Their job is to uphold and defend the Constitution, not pander to the money interests.

The United States Constitution provides that the government shall provide a republican form of government to each of the states. The pledge of allegiance states ‘to the flag and to the republic for which it stands’. It does not say democracy – it says republic. Article IV, Section 4 states “The United States shall guarantee every State in this Union a republican Form of Government”.

Our government agents have violated their Oaths of Office (betrayed their country and its principles) by allowing us to be taught that we live in a democracy. The government knows the difference and will go to many lengths to obfuscate the truth. Looking in the United States of America U.S. Government Training Manual, No. 2000-25, War Department, Washington, dated November 30, 1928 and prepared under the direction of the Chief of Staff. “Democracy: A Government of The Masses. Authority derived through mass meeting or any other form of “direct” expression. Results in mobocracy. Attitude toward property is communistic – negating property rights. Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences. Results in demagogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy.” (Demagogue – a leader who makes use of popular prejudices, false claims and promises in order to gain power).

“Democracy is a form of government that can not long survive, for as soon as people learn that they have a voice in fiscal policies of the government, they will vote for themselves all the money in the treasury, and bankrupt the nation.” Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto

“Republic: Authority is derived from the election by the people of public officials best fitted to represent them. Attitude toward property is respect for laws and individual rights, and a sensible economic procedure. Attitude toward law is the administration of justice in accord with fixed principles and established evidence, with strict regard to consequences. Avoids the dangerous extreme of either tyranny or monocracy. Results in statesmanship, liberty, reason, justice, contentment and progress. Is the “standard form” of government throughout the world. A republic form is a form of government under the Constitution which provides for the election of the executive, a legislative body (which legislates only for government) and a judiciary.” (Emphasis added) A republic is self-governing.

Another example; both the Texas Constitution (Article II, Section 2) and the United States of America Constitution (Article 1, Section 10) provide that only Gold and Silver (Coin or Specie) shall be offered as tender and payment of debt.

Can you recall when you last received gold or silver coin in payment? Both have been unlawfully banned by Congress – yet there were no constitutional amendments allowing the government to do so.

Back in 1918 the government wanted to ban alcohol. The Constitution was amended (18th Amendment) to take effect Jan. 29, 1920. After ten years of juries failing to convict the majority of alcohol related cases Prohibition was repealed by the 21st Amendment effective Feb. 6, 1933. Now you go to jail for smoking marijuana .

Where is the Constitutional Amendment that authorized that?

Under whose authority was that law passed? Is there even alaw passed that allows the enforcement ofincarceration of the We the People for smoking marijuana? The republic of Texas does not advocate smoking marijuana or doing anything else that may be harmful to your health, nor does the republic of Texas believe that anyone has the right or authority to tell another what they can or can’t do with respect to their values and lifestyle, nor do they have the right to impose their values upon the Sovereign People.

The point in the previous illustration is that something has changed! It is readily apparent that our government is not following its Constitution – the document from which it derives its authority. If the government is not following its own rules of existence, then it is not a lawful government, but a tyrannical anarchy using its force (guns, imprisonment, and theft ) to extort property from its Sovereigns!

Again, I emphasize the fact that I am neither Left nor Right, nor Democrat or Republican,
    Smoke on that a while,

  468. EugeneDebs says:

I will let someone else deal with your Republic of Texas fantasy. You were flat out wrong about Texas and slavery I doubt this is any more accurate. I will deal with the libertarian tripe that sovereign people blah blah. Sovieriegn people can decide DEMOCRATICALLY that we arent that enamored of the Ebenezer Scrooge philosophy known as economic darwinism. That the whole I got mine get yours or DIE BS is for lower lifeforms and not the ideals of a society. So when we DEMOCRATICALLY decide that healthcare, or the Air Force or highways or rural electrification or Social Security is good for ALL Americans that itself IS a function of soveriegnity which is NOT a synomym for selfishness and small mindedness. The idea is we are all in this together. Not MINE, MINE. This is the difference between a society and a large group of people living in the same geographic area. I HAVE healthcare. Great healthcare. I want to be sure my nieghbor has it too. Right now more than 40 million of my nieghbors DONT. Right now more than 18,000 people a year DIE from lack of access to healthcare. You obviously dont CARE which of your nieghbors die. YOU are one of the people John Kenneth Galbraith was talking about when he said this

“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”
    John Kenneth Galbraith

  469. Darksnark says:

After giving careful thought to the matter, I’ve decided to throw my full support to the movement for Texas secession. Think about it. With Texas out of the picture, the Republican Party will never win another national election, and we could then encourage all the birthers, teabaggers, neo-Nazis, militia nutcases and right-wing talk show hosts to emigrate there. We could even give them relocation fees to uproot their double-wides and hit the road! They could then live happily in their own little tax-free, supply-side paradise; that is until the Mexican Army comes north to greet the gringos with a little “historical payback”!

No, there aren’t. Texas joined the U.S.A. in 1845. It seceded in 1861, thereby abrogating any terms or documentation regarding its original statehood. It was unconditionally readmitted in 1870. Whether or not you “acceded to it” the second time around is moot.

Most of your rant is pure crazy, but I’ll pick out and touch on some points. However, omission of any ranty portions from my responses does not constitute condoning them. You are a freaking lunatic across the board.

    Section 10

    No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts;

This only governs what states can’t do. It does not restrict the federal government from printing currency, or from anything else.

The point I’m making is that Texas is full of clear-thinking, rational liberals and progressives, but these ‘tenthers’ are really stealing the spot light and giving Texans a bad wrap. you know i have never realized how many people or bitter, how many people are really smart and know a lot. How many wont to make a real point with good manners and then there are those that just wont to say mean stuff about their fellow human beings and call each other names and are just plain mean.
If a huge astroid was coming our way how would you mean, name calling, and bitter people act then? If the end of the world was at hand. What would you do?
Think about this. You would all be trying to find out where to go to be safe and you sure would not be calling people names. According to some this could happen as early as 2010. There may not be any Texas or New York left for that matter to fight about.
After reading all these comments i am sure that the most of us would, that is those of us left alive would still be fighting over something else because it looks like that is what most humans can do best is go to war and fight and if they cannot do that they call each other names … . My most of us are all so intelligent and mature we all must have come from New York or the East Coast and Texas or the South or South West, brilliant and sophisticated. I DON’T THINK SO.

We are all IGNORAMUSES if we cannot learn to get along and respect each other. A lot of what is written is just MEAN AND HATEFUL. IT DOES NOT SEEM TO MATTER WHERE THE MOST OF YOU COME FROM. CAN THE MOST OF YOU DO ANYTHING BESIDES CALL EACH OTHER NAMES AND FIGHT. TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE ONLY A FEW OF YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE A MEANINGFUL COMMENT.
