Scarborough rips conservatives for seeking ratings by scaremongering about Obama’s education speech.

Earlier today, ThinkProgress noted that conservatives are freaking out over President Obama’s upcoming speech to schoolchildren about “persisting and succeeding in school,” claiming that it is actually aimed at political indoctrination. On MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, host Joe Scarborough ripped into the hyperventilating conservatives. “Seriously, why don’t we want the president of the United States, any president of the United States, delivering the message to kids: work hard, stay in school, succeed,” said Scarborough, adding, “get your ratings if you want, you’re just screwing your political party.” Watch it:

It is utterly flabbergasting that ANYONE would generally have an issue with this but the far-right, neo-nutbags that get their news from the local Klan church and newsletters that are dropped from Rove’s office every morning, and actually BELIEVE something that Glenn Beck is spewing and getting this to the level of ANY debate is wing-nuttery at it’s peak…

PLEASE IGNORE THIS CRAP IN THE FUTURE…..

Every once in awhile Mr. Scarborough says something against his party, and everytime he does it gets reported as if we should ge grateful or something. This man was part of the “Contract ON America” Congress, so I dont care what he says he’s irrelevant.

I said this before and I’ll say it again, there is no such thing as a clear thinking, respectful, stand up for what’s right, Republican. Mr. Scareborough should do his show from the house floor and say that to all of his buddy’s faces, then we’ll have us a show.

If anyone’s seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail, there’s a scene where Lancelot is attacking a castle, and the build up is that the two door guards have been seeing him coming for hundreds of yards. He finally gets to the door, kills one of the guards and rushes into the castle. At this point, the second guard looks into the castle and says, very quietly, “Hey?”

Joe Scarborough is the second guard.

I assume you aren’t saying that in a good way.

  14. Wiz says:

This kind of radical behavior from the right is going to be their downfall, reasonable people will be turned off. Education is not a goal of the GOP, they are afraid of the message stay in school, get a good education, learn to think. An educated population will be a lot less susceptable to lies and misrepresentations that the GOP is so famous for. The right fear Obama giving a message that most people would consider as a great thing to be telling young people.

  15. GeeDubs says:

My hope is the Republicans KEEP digging a hole, never to see the light of day again. The more they rant and rave like this, the less they are seen as capable of THINKING, much less governing. And if your espoused viewpoint is that government can’t govern, they GET THE HELL OUT OF GOVERNMENT and let people who want to do right by government be in those positions.

Are there some who dont, hell yea, and there are too many that think that education is BS, but there are many more who dont think that way. Don’t be too hard on the troll. Since he is basing his opinion solely on his experience in a public school, one must presume he hasn’t seen much beyond the remedial classes, where students of all colors probably aren’t wild about school.

If he could see the AP classes, he’d see almost all of the students there — black, white, and all other colors — place quite a bit of emphasis on education.

While that may be true, 5 public schools is not that many. Take Brockport New york

Second and third grade – Barclay Elementary
Fourth and fifth Grade – Fred w Hill School

That the rightwingers would take an inocuous address to children, reminding them to do their homework, study hard and get ahead in school so they can be better adults is beyond the pale.
Yet, they have riled up a large portion of the populace, including eductors who should know better.

Both former presidents, Bush, addressed school children. And their sainted Ronald Reagan – during his address to school children – actually extolled the benefits of tax cuts!!
I do not remember any outcry from anyone on any of these former addresses.

Obama is releasing the text of the address one day early so schools can pre-screen it for suitability. Can you believe that?!
Our school children are being discouraged from the president – is this before or after they say the pledge of allegiance?

And if it were Bush 41, Bush 43, Carter, or Clinton, I would say it is ridiculous to deny the children the right to hear the President of the United States’ address. In fact, I would go so far as to say it is downright unpatriotic. You don’t have to agree with him, but you should respect the office of the Presidency no matter who is in it.

Actually, the question really should be that if a school is keeping their students from hearing a public address from the President, aren’t they the one’s guilty of indoctrination, particulalry those who say they have to record the address on tape and review it before they present it to their school.

In fact, I would recommend that if your children’s schools are doing this, you ask for the lesson plans from the teachers the day before, because in my opinion this is leading to a Michel (slit-out-wrists) Bachmann – like cult following.

I thought you were Mr. P. Now you’re a 17 year old? Yes your opinions are strictly racist. You probably don’t realize because your parents are ignorant crackers too. Realizing you have a problem is the first step. You have several. And the word is “patent” Einstein.

  95. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Scare mongering, fear mongering, obstructionism, spewing hatred, thinly veiled racism, promoting lies, encouraging hatred, these are the only things the gNOp have left to offer the American people, other than war, tax cuts for the wealthy and tax breaks for the corporations.

  96. LibertyLover says:

I have to wonder about the people that are worried that President Obama is going to indoctrinate their kids in school. I mean who is going to do something about the indoctrination of the people that listen to Rush and Glenn and Sean that aren’t even in school?

And if the logic follows that presidents shouldn’t come to a classroom, then what the heck was President Bush indoctrinating the 2nd grade class in Florida when he was reading My Pet Goat to them?

  97. Shayne says:

My 14 year old daughter was in France, Germany and Italy for a month this summer. And she said she’s never seen anything like the Italian boys/men. I don’t think they’re black Athena.

  98. EugeneDebs says:

Learn the first rule of holes Athena. By the way often what we observe is colored by the preconceptions we bring to the observation. Quantum mechanics says that the very act of observing a phenomena effects it. Here is an observation. Anytime you begin hating in a group you are making a mistake. Anytime you push an observation of a small set to be universal to a larger set you are almost certainly making a mistake. You are young. Take stock of the preconceptions you bring to your observations AS you make them. Identify them. Analyize whether or not they are valid universally or at all.

  99. Shayne says:

They worry about President Obama indoctrinating their children but they’re anxious to send them to God Camp and routinely have the military coming to recruit them.

  100. YoungSloshee says:

Scarborough, you are a mystery wrapped in an enigma…

Half the time you’re chumming up with big corporations (Starbucks) and repeated controversial conservative talking points, then on other weeks you flip around and say something respectable, if not downright hilarious. Which man are you? Do you have multiple personalities? Quit toying with me!

  101. pete says:

I might add that a lot of good, smart, people are racists. Often they don’t even realize it. My late step-mother is a perfect example.

She was a life-long self-professed “liberal” and wouldn’t have voted for a Republican to save her life. She even spoke out against discrimination of all kinds. And yet?

I witnessed on many occasions that she would clutch her purse or even shift it to the other side of her body when she approached anyone who wasn’t of “her kind”. Over time, being observant, I came to realize that just about everybody wasn’t “her kind”. She was, in fact, the single most bigoted and judgmental person I’ve ever met. Yet she went to the grave believing that she wasn’t so.

  102. Shayne says:

The market is up and retailers are doing better than they expected. Fox has to make up this hateful insanity so they don’t have to talk about the fact that the President’s economic policy is working.

  103. pete says:

It would be amusing if the stakes were not so high, Shayne. Even when they try to argue about a legitimate issue, military policy for example, they don’t rationally question the policy. They blabber about him “giving aid to terrorists” or some other made-up rot.

  104. LibertyLover says:

I find it very ironic that the people who object to President Obama speaking to their children because they fear that Obama will indoctrinate them about a socialist agenda while they are sitting in a PUBLIC (socialized) school.

  105. pete says:

I don’t know that it’s terribly ironic, LibertyLover. At least not to them. It seems like they are from a group which is pretty hostile to public education to begin with. They are definitely the type who “don’t want their school associated with evolution” or much anything else that accurately examines the real world.

The really sad part is that they will deprive, and damage, their own children to preserve their delusions.

  106. Pennsylvanianne says:

Why do I have the feeling that people objected to Obama conveying his message to schoolchildren because they think the message might encourage more black children to succeed and eventually become President, too? Or ascend to positions they think should go to them? That can’t be behind this ridiculous scaremongering, can it?
LibertyLover is oh so right. People who are frightened of Obama’s “socialism” are also more than happy to take Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security or SSI benefits or to call police and fire in emergencies or drive on public roads. All are paid for in common and are forms of socialism.

  107. Marie says:

They tried to portray Obama and his wife as terrorists (remember the fist-jab?), they tried to manufacture a deeper relationship between Obama and Bil Ayers, they tried to assign the anger (justified as it were) of Reverend Wright to Obama, in addition, they tried to portray him as too young to be president. So they have done their best to characterize him as a young, angry black man.

Now, as president, the stimulus package has passed which is surpassing early estimates in success, the auto bailout has been effective in getting clunkers off the road, while clearing dealer inventories.
These are being portrayed as socialist (gasp!) programs.

He is promising to change our health care system from the profit driven exclusive club for healthy persons to an all inclusive, public plan where everyone has a choice to participate and he is being compared to a communist.

He is planning to give a “Bill Cosby” address to kids returning to school, admonishing them to study hard and succeed. That is compared to Hitler’s brown shirts.

I believe that the covert and increasingly overt racism still existing in this nation is behind this latest attempt to destroy the character of the president.
They cannot beat him if they don’t practice these dirty, nasty tactics, and this appeals to more people than I like to imagine.

  108. SlappyBastinado says:

EugeneDebs says: Quantum mechanics says that the very act of observing a phenomena effects it.

    =========================================
I, have proven that theory to be true in the 12th dimension known only to ED.

The Heisenberg uncertainty principle in combination with general relativity can only begin to explain the specific gravity felt in the mind of E-debbi. A spin off of mathematical equations formulated in the quest to explain string theory was needed to calibrate the most sensitive of instruments in the attempt to explain the subjects very existence. This is a work in progress and the outcome at this time is yet to be explained.

  110. EugeneDebs says:

    SlappyMORON

Still here begging us to pity you. Still showing just how stupid and pathetic you are. It wont work. It is desperation. You are addicted to pity. You are stupid we know that but we have pitied you enough. Get help. Find some dignity and self respect. The principle I stated is well know. That you are so stupid you dont know ANYTHING except how much you crave out pity isnt anyones fault but your own. Have the self awareness to be embarassed at how stupid you are.

    pete says:

I try tomaintain a little pity for stupid people. Many of them are stupid through no fault of their own. That being said, there’s something profoundly wrong with anyone who would be afraid to have the President of the United States adress their children.

I recall, a long time ago, when I participated in the Presidential Fitness Testing. Using the technology of the day, it included a short film featuring John Kennedy, who was already dead, explaining the importance of fitness. It was an honor to hear the man himself.

And, a few short months ago, these same sick freaks would have seen this address in the same light. They would, correctly, see it as an honor to receive as personal a message as possible from our President. I guess it’s just another example that the opposition to Obama is neither logical nor patriotic.

    _________________________

I remember this too. It was a special time – the President’s fitness program – and I remember that ’60’s, ’70’s public educational system seemed excellent. We knew way more information and remembered it.

To complain and protest about the President of the United States speaking to our country’s school children is anti-American.

Great point. Most homeschoolers are white trash types. I think they have more of a problem with education than black communities.

    September 3rd, 2009 at 5:03 pm
    ______

    Most are white; but trash?

“Research from the mid-1990s through the mid-2000s is quite
consistent in regards to the demographics of who home schools. These families differ from the average American family in that they are: more likely to be white, more likely to be headed by a married couple, more likely to have greater numbers of children, more likely to be headed by college-educated parents, more likely to have larger annual incomes, and more likely to be state certified to teach.”

“A multitude of studies concerning the student achievement of home educated children have been conducted. Over 25 different studies indicate that these students score above national
averages. Only two studies have demonstrated otherwise.”

Let’s face it…He’s a black man talking to children..That is their problem with him…I thought we as a country were more evolved that this…so sad

  119. EdgeOnIt says:

The social concepts mentioned, have a lot to do with adults’ healthy attitudes : 1) A measure of ‘working hard’ is personal, because adults typically maintain a wide range of goals in their working lives, which may represent to a family the ‘fruits of their labor’! 2)’Staying in school’, probably should be considered best, along side of ’staying out of jail’, and 3) A ’success’ is probably a person who is both happy, and productive, and does what he or she likes compared to what his or her parents did, or presently do!

The Republic Party is screwing itself.

Enjoy it, Republics, it’s about as close to good sex as you’ll get!

Nah, Repugs get plenty of good sex. But I think they finally figured out that screwing themselves is cheaper than hiring prostitutes.

  122. Parlezvous says:

Let’s keep in mind that Bush was speaking to school children in Florida the morning of 911. Our country has apparently be come dumber through that process.

I would rather have an intelligent man with a command of the language speaking to kids.

  123. laworder says:

Hey GOPER’S, honestly are you people on the right insane? Don’t you know why we want a well-educated populace? It’s because if you don’t have an educated and well-informed public, people will vote for a Grecian Formula cowboy (Ronald Reagan) or some moron who never suceeded in anything in his whole self-absorbed life, (George W. Bush).

As a result of these two cowboys we had Iran-Contra (selling arms to Iran, the same country that took U.S. citizens hostage and had state-sponsored terrorism. Then taking those illegal profits and promoting a war in Central America). Or you can have 220 U.S. Marines killed in Beirut, Lebanon. Why they were their is still a mystery to me!

Or you can have a president invade the wrong country after 9-11. That is why education is important! If you’re well-educated and well-informed, you know your Geography and don’t invade and destroy the wrong country, after being attacked.
