Pence embraces town hall questioner who compares Obama to Hitler.

Yesterday, Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), who serves as chairman of the House Republican Conference, held a town hall-style meeting at Madison Park Church of God in Anderson, IN. During the event, an elderly woman stood to ask Pence a question, and in the midst of doing so, told the congressman that President Obama wants members of Congress to be treated as “a superior race.” “And we know who came up with the terminology of a superior race,” she continued, “it sounds a lot like Hilter.” Many in the crowd applauded. Rather than reject the questioner’s false assertion, Pence simply said, “Thank you.” Watch it (beginning at 1:50):

Obama has two arms and two legs. You know who else had two arms and two legs? Hitler.

Obama eats three meals a day. You know who else ate three meals a day? Hitler.

Obama uses his mouth and vocal cords to produce words that he puts in a particular order as a way to communicate with people. You know who else was able to do this so called “talking?” Hitler.

Obama sleeps for several hours each night, and then awakens each morning. You know who else went to sleep every night? Hitler.

The only possible conclusion is that Obama IS Hitler. The comparisons are so OBVIOUS that I can’t believe no one noticed them before now.

Pence is a total and absolute dolt. I wouldn’t buy a used car from the slickster. The good people of Indiana deserve better representation than they are getting from this snake.

  7. NinerFan says:

As far as the House is concerned, Pence and his moronic supporters are irrelevant. The House will pass a bill with a strong public option and they’ll do it with zero Repub votes just like they did the stimulus package.

That idiot is really going to say that the first mixed race President is like Hitler?

God Bless free speech (it makes the morons easier to spot).

  10. politicscorner says:

As a member of Congress (or in general) maybe Pence likes to think of himself as superior. And likes the talk of Hitler. The guy is a freakin’ Aryan.

Comparing Obama to Hitler is so preposterous though.

White supremacist, KKK, Right winger, Nazi, Hitler, brownshirts, teabaggers, birthers, deathers… those are the appropriate comparisons.

  11. margarine says:

Where in the world did she get that idea anyway…?

  12. Luis Chapulin M says:

Obama wants members of Congress to be treated like a superior race? No. Members of Congress ARE being treated (and acting) like members of a superior CLASS.

They have access to health care (amongst other things) with an ease an ordinary american citizen can’t afford. This reform is about making sure Regular Joe can get the same level of health care that Lieberman Joe gets.

    _____________________________________________________________

The person who’s using the terminology of “superior race” is this elderly woman, not President Obama.

So maybe it’s the elderly woman who needs to be compared to Hitler.

This entire group appears to be made up of people who would much rather hang negative labels on Obama than engage in any meaningful conversation about health care. Socialist, Communist, Hitler, etc. — and they don’t know what any of the labels mean nor do they care. They’re just using them in place of “assh*le”, and calling the president an assh*le is all that’s important to them.

The comparisons ,from a crowd who applauded secret prisons , wars for resources and the gutting of the constitution as heroic acts of Americanism by the previous administration ,of Obama’s agenda on health care as being Hitler-like are laughable .
The fact that all the changes Bush made have been swept under the rug and continue unabated is very troubling indeed !

The Obama administration has cut more $30 million in non-humanitarian aid to Honduras — calling it a signal that Washington is not happy with the status quo. President Manuel Zelaya was ousted in June and the de facto rulers won’t let him back —even as the country prepares for new elections. Zelaya met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday.
ALthough the secretary of states former campaign manager represents the “business interests” in Honduras ,this is still welcome news .

We’ve all known this clod isn’t the most attentive congressman. After all, he believed rural Indiana looked exactly like downtown Baghdad post-invasion.

Just another fine, “Christian” politician who believes the unborn are entitled to full protection under the 14th amendment, but if the child is born gay, the protections fly away.

Warrantless wiretapping on American citizens? Sure! Let’s report illegal aliens to the authorities if they’re lying near death and have to head to an emergency room. And, of course, being the fine, “Christian” politician he is, he fully supported the Iraq War and has no problems with moving the conflict east a few clicks…

  20. mary lacewing says:

The first comment to this story in The Herald Bulletin link took exception with the story’s title, “Pence town hall crowd outraged, but civil” and said this:

I would barely consider any kind of meeting, town hall or not, as being civil so long as people are comparing our President to Adolf Hitler. Hitler attempted to extinguish an entire race of people, President Obama is seeking to get medical coverage to every citizen of this country. As a citizen of this county I’m embarassed to be in any way associated with the people who so flippantly made that awful comparison. And to the people making that comparison I would say that the next time you come to discuss important, “adult-type” issues in public you should come prepared with more than just grade school insults. Fact, Mike Pence both supports Medicare (a government run health care system) and participates in the Congressional health care plan, run by….you guessed it, the government. So for him to not support this legislation is like someone saying, “What is good for the goose, is not good for the gander.” Representative Pence, your hypocracy is going to be exposed and the errors in your ideology proven wrong and when that happens I ask what other lies and half-truths will you tell us to win our vote?

A long comment (and it could use a few breaks) but a good one.

Predictably, another commenter accused the comment’s writer, Kevin, of having “facist, socialistic views”. There seem to be a lot of really stupid people in this country. Sounds like the president better exhort our youth to stay in school or something…

Hey watchpoop, where do you stand on the issue of the 1989 thesis from the then-34-year-old Republican who is currently the G-NO-P candidate for the governorship of Virginia?

Do you think Mr. McDonnell should be cut some slack over ignorant statements like these? Or should he be held to the same standard you wish to hold Mr. Jones?

I thought America would rise above the last 8 years but it seems we are sinking to a new low. More hate and division than ever. Outlandish rumors, lies, inuendoes, talk radio feeding the racist hatreds, news media not correcting the outright lies but building on them.
The few talking heads that try to disspell these insane lies are drowned out each day by new ones.
From healthcare to a 10 minute encouragement to stay in school they attack a man who is trying to clean up the corrupt stench of 8 years, clean up for the citizens that attack him. What has happened to America ?

The politicians in DC have shown themselves to be wolves, neutered and spineless rumpdraggers for certain, but a wolve nevertheless.

And thats what this health reform issue is about at its heart. Private profit or socialized debt, which you get either way. So, which one would cost less? Would be the fiscally logical question.

As we saw in pass 8 years if an American said anything about George W. Bush that person would be arrested by the FBI. Remember when anyone who spoke up against the lies Bush was telling was called un Patriotic even when we had proof he was lying. Now with racist and KKK members leading the way Americans can even threaten the Presidents life without anyone doing anything. This happen in 1960 until 1963 when the GOP finally completed the job on Nov. 22, 1963 at 12:30pm
from Dallas Texas live on TV as we watched the President get assassinated. Good move in killing the accused as it gave Senator Specter his chance to give the famous Magic Bullet story that even 5th Graders wouldn’t believe. Well we are the United States and we do kill our Presidents but we blame others and justify our conduct. Looks like Bush/Cheney put the US ahead of such countries as Iran and now has showned the World that the USA was the true Axis of Evil during 2000 and 2008.

  37. Peter C says:

Anyone notice how when a former bush employee does speak out he corrects himself in two days ? Tom Ridge a Bronze Star veteran could not even meet Rachel Maddow’s eyes when she asked him about his meanings in his book. Gonzalez former AG turned his comment regarding torture investigation totally around.
And they call Obama a dictator ? Has he silenced anyone ?
Even cheney shut up for a month after critizing bush. Tell me again about the warm, loving bush family. Evil, evil, evil.

Mccain, McConnel, Blount have all used Bethesda Hospital for health issues, yet per McCain, “the American public aren’t ready for government healthcare.” In other words Americans do not deserve the healthcare they pay for the Senators.

  41. Peter C says:

I somewhat understand these people’s fear of the rise of another Hitler; they are scared by a severe economic downturn. However, I’m astonished that they’d look for him in the party which believes ‘health care should be universal’ and not in the party that believes that ‘torture is necessary to keep us safe’. Personally, I’ve never found Quakers to be very threatening, whereas those who feel the need to spy on them do concern me.

Wow. So this person hears “superior race” when it was never said, apparantly thinks about “superior race” when he see Obama on TV…and then accuses Obama of being Hitler? Wow. We may have hit a new low in intelligence here.

It seems to me that if that person is seeing, hearing and thinking about “superior race” when nobody is actually saying or advocating any such thing…he may be the one with the issues.

Seriously, this is just f-ing stupid as hell. Who goes out and says, “I am going to interpret something I don’t like or understand in the worst possible way. 47. Wiz says:

We should have not been surprised at how the election of a black man as President of the United States would have brought to the surface a flood of hate and racism that hasn’t been seen since the 1950s. I guess it was always there lurking beneath the surface. I remember the time Bill Cosby first appeared on a major TV program, I Spy. In the southern town I grew up in there was a lot of discussion about how disgusting it was to have to look at a black person on television. After a while Cosby seem pretty harmless and likeable and everyone seemed to calm down, and the show was good too. I am wondering if the current infestation of racism will also die down. Of course then there was no such thing as the internet.

WTF? Seriously, what the fracking hell is this person talking about? Members of Congress a superior race? She has to be terribly, terribly confused or off her meds to have come up with that bit of irrationality.

Hitler wasn’t the first or last to wander around yammering about superior races, but even he wouldn’t have consented to the notion of the US Congress being superior, a race, or any combination there-of. Well, I can’t say what he would have considered to be an encompassing statement about our congress, but it probably wouldn’t have been complimentary.

The proper form for Congressman Pence to have used is not “Thank you.” He should have said “Thank you for sharing.”, then ran like hell for the exit. Oh, wait, he’s an R-Zombie; he wouldn’t have to run, he can wait for the brain salad snack following the meeting.

Adele Stan on Alternet has posted 6 Sept a piece on “Van Jones Resigns…” that includes more on Pence:

“Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, who lends his endorsement to Grassfire, an organization that organizes members of the armed Patriot movement through its ResistNet site, called on Jones to resign, saying, “His extremist views and coarse rhetoric have no place in this administration or the public debate.”

Grassfire is currently organizing ground-level opposition to the clean energy legislation — especially its cap-and-trade mechanism — supported by the White House.

AlterNet reported last month on the racist videos and statements posted on the ResistNet site, including a call for “white folks to riot in the streets” and a video that equates President Obama with Adolf Hitler. Van Jones is African-American.”

Why does a sitting congressman like Pence get a free pass to endorse an armed revolt against the government?
