Hannity: Starting Now, My ‘Job’ Is To ‘Get Rid Of Every Other One’ Of Obama’s Czars

Yesterday, tens of thousands of people gathered in rural West Virginia for the coal-powered “Friends of America Rally.” The point of the event was to rail against the Waxman-Markey clean energy legislation. Massey CEO Don Blankenship, the driving force behind the rally, said that “America itself” was at stake if the bill wasn’t stopped.

Fox News personality Sean Hannity was one of the rally’s keynote speakers, and he took the opportunity to gloat about Van Jones’ resignation. He vowed to the audience that he would get rid of “every other one” of Obama’s so-called czars:

HANNITY: Do you want another czar?

CROWD: No!

HANNITY: I don’t think so. By the way, we got rid of one, and my job starting tomorrow night is to get rid of every other one. I promise you that!

Watch it:

Hannity’s pledge is part of a larger right-wing campaign. Glenn Beck has announced that Cass Sunstein, Mark Lloyd, and Carol Browner are his next targets and asked his followers to dig up all the dirt they can on them.

Republican lawmakers are trying to argue that Obama should be barred from appointing more advisers until the administration addresses their constitutional concerns. Yesterday on Fox News, Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA) said that all of Obama’s advisers should have to go through the same vetting and approval process through the Senate as Supreme Court nominees and Cabinet secretaries. Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) has said that the “president should suspend any further appointments of so-called ‘czars’ until Congress has an opportunity to examine the background and responsibilities of these individuals.”

The conservative strategy is to bring the executive branch to a screeching halt. Republicans in the Senate have tried to hold up key Obama nominees in what amounts to ideological witch hunts and self-interested horse-trading. Additionally, several of the so-called czars have actually already been confirmed by the Senate.

Update Kingston now has 34 co-sponsors to his bill that would prohibit taxpayer dollars being used for "any task force, council, or similar office which is established by or at the direction of the President and headed by an individual who has been inappropriately appointed to such position (on other than an interim basis), without the advice and consent of the Senate."

  3. Jackie says:

Now just think if these rules were in place for the Bush Administration. Yes Republicans gave Bush everything he wanted and of course President Cheney just did what ever he wanted to. Congress gave Bush a blank check and even Dems like Senator Feinstein said what ever President Bush wants he should have because he is our President. Yes Bush said he really didn’t care what people thought or what the polls said as he was President and if your not with him your agaisnt him. Now we see unqualified so call Journalist thinking they are President. Beck a recovering drug addict/alcoholic thinks he’s President. Rush is busy using drugs and attacking little girls.

  4. candide says:

What do we know about Hannity–his life and his politics? If he is going to go around taking broadsides at everything progressive, I want to know his history. No more playing defense. Everything needs to be offense. That is how these mud wrestling rethug pigs want it.

  5. lokidog says:

I’ve always felt these czars were unecessary and nothing but a way to water down congressional oversight, regardless of what party is in power.

But the rightwing only cares when they feel they can score cheap partisan points. Disgusting.

Congress should pass a law getting rid of all czars so scum like any of the anti-American wingnut blowards and the GOP can’t play politics with the issue.

  6. LibertyLover says:

Stir the pot some more Hannity. It’s a dangerous mixture you’re brewing.

  7. TXProgressive says:

I read – I believe on HuffPo – that it is perhaps better that Van Jones resigned because while in the administration, his hands are tied – but as an outside advocate, he and his mission would be more effective. In a way I agree with this stance, I just find it sad that the republicans are stooping to jr. high tactics, but here’s hoping that it backfires on them.

    … NOT to these folks.

  9. Uosdwis says:

That sounds like he wants to overthrow the government! I say our job is to get rid of Hannity, and Beck, and O’Reilly, and Fox and Friends. The whole lot of them.

Then how come you’re dressed like one?
    You dressed me like this!”

Near as I can tell, none of the President’s advisors are made of wood, so Hannity’s insanity is getting really grating.

  14. misscoleopteramolly says:

It’s not that Hannity hates czars — after all, Bush had czars, and so did many other presidents, and Sean never got worked up over them.

    It’s that OBAMA has czars.

    Bush czars good.

    Obama czars bad.

And Hannity’s audience will never see the double standard.

  15. delafield says:

I wish that the Democratic majority that we elected in 2008 would do something. It’s been nine months and I’m sick and tired of waiting.

  16. lokidog says:

    Max says:

I’d just like to see these czars gone, but I do believe it would not be fair to the current president to not have the same ability as past presidents in building his administration.

Guess I’m dreaming to think congress could do something about the issue going forward in regards to whomever holds the White House after Obama.

Believe me, the day I buckle before a gutless little pinhead like Hanity and his braying wingnuts is the day I ask my wife to shoot me.

  17. P.D. says:

Oh Please. Not the ‘Czars’!! Run for cover Americans! The ‘Czars’ will ruin you’re life! Oh by the way. Didn’t Bush senior and Regan have ‘Czars’ too. I remember ‘The War on Drugs’. Wasn’t there a ‘Drug Czar’? If there was, he did a crappy job.

  19. Anonymouse says:

I have Republican friends that I respect. I was even willing to give Mr. Bush the benefit of the doubt after the fraud that was Florida.

I know that this is really nothing new, that this brand of hardball politics has a long tradition in American politics. Just the same, there is a point where partisanship crosses over into the subversion of democracy.

I am beginning to lose my patience with these people.

  20. Marie says:

Don’t we still have laws against sedition?

Also, someone here the other day printed a list of czars under the Bush administration.

  21. konchster says:

It should be no surprise that Glenn Beck is the darling of the right. He barely graduated high school was diagnosed with ADD early on .He Is a self proclaimed addict of alcohol and drugs. He was admitted to Yale under a special education grant took 1 course and didn’t finish it. This is one of the revered spokesmen of the right and where many of the ideas of the teabaggers, birthers, tenthers come from. A question I keep asking are these the principles we want our future based on? I hope not!

  22. Purple State says:

    There are no “czars”.

There are just appointments that the opposition despises.

So, in a way, Hannity might succeed. After all, “get(ting) rid of every other” “czar” will mean that there are none left to remove. Or that there never were any to remove.

The “czar” word. It’s all in that empty dead space Hannity calls a brain.

  23. Mark701 says:

Keith Olbermann just put out a call to everyone to dig up as much crap on these people as we can.

  24. EugeneDebs says:

Hannity is incredibly stupid, evil, and un-American. He cares only about his rightwing lies and fantasies and couldnt care less about America nor Americans. That he has a TV show where he can lie and propagandize people is a disgrace. Were there any justice in the world the only job Hannity could get would be asking if you wanted fries with that happy meal

  25. KaneJeeves says:

Sorry, no debate needed on this subject. The righties are now simple racists, nothing more. They can’t come out and say “because he’s black” so they throw any old crap out there as a substitute. But bottom-line it’s nothing but racism, and we need to call them out on that each and every time they speak.

  26. misscoleopteramolly says:

Hmmm…apparently all you have to do to be a “czar” is to be an advisor to the Executive Branch who has been referred to as a “czar” in at least one reliable medium.

Wikipedia, following that standard, sets Dubya’s number of “czar” jobs at 35 and Obama’s at 32.

Remind me again — what’s Hannity complaining about?

  27. Luis Chapulin M says:

HANNITY: Do you want another czar?
    CROWD: No!
    HANNITY: I don’t think so

As they said on Blazing Saddles:

“These are simple people, ranchers, farmers, the salt of the earth. You know, Morons!”

/We don’t need no steenkin’ badges!

  28. AIO says:

I’m guessing that Ted Nugent was in full agreement with Hannity.
Without Hannity’s nauseating red, white and blue bullsh¡t tours, Nugent would have virtually no audience.

  29. Xisithrus says:

Well, we always knew fair and balanced was a theatrical trope Hannity.

  30. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Hannity was fired from his first radio job, at KCSB, for homophobic comments. Guess who defended him and won a reversal (although Hannity did not return to the job) – the ACLU. Perhaps someone should ask Hannity how he feels having been a client of the ACLU (and who cares if he technically was not a “client” – like the GOP we can “correct” that later).

  31. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Who appointed Hannity the anti-czar czar?

  32. Xisithrus says:

  35. pags2 says:

I am surprised that Fox, Hannity, Beck, et al, have never been the targets of demonstrations since they are located in New York. Surely, there must be enough people in the New York area who detest Fox enough to make their employees enjoy the benefits of a reverse “tea bag” party outside their building. A few days of large demonstrations will make the Fox commentators uneasy. If Fox gives the demonstration coverage, they will look like fools and if they don’t, they will look silly for not covering a news event outside their own studios.

  36. spearNmagicHelmet says:

hannity, great american coward. who gives a shit?

  37. Xisithrus says:

Lets see, Hannity, A sychophant of Newt, demonizing people, nothing new there. Beck, an alcoholic and pot head. Oreilly, sexually harrassment expert. Ailes a DC (R) political hack. Kar Rove another partisan smear mongerer. Huckabee another (R) fear monger. Perino a serial Bushie…

Yes, my bad FOX is fair and balanced, I dont know how I didnt see that before.

  38. P.D. says:

This is great filler for the Repugs to focus on instead of the Spanish investigating the Bush White House. Or the fact that Cheney almost derailed the convictions of the bombers in the U.K. It seems to me these guys will always spread fear and nonsense instead of real news. Unreal. Why blame yourselves for your problems when you can look for the Boogie-man under the bed instead?

  43. YoungSloshee says:

How backwards is Hannity’s/Beck’s/Limbaugh’s thinking? They want to tear down the government that has NOT, say, killed thousands of American soldiers and tens of thousands of foreign innocents. The administration that ruined the U.S. image abroad and redefined “fuzzy ethics” is the one the Right-Wing Extreme wants to admire and preserve, yes?

Basically, they’ve imagined these problems they’ve accused the Obama administration of committing, and have resolved to enact unjustified campaigns to tear apart the duly-appointed staff of the duly-elected President of the United States of America. Yet they refer to themselves as the “real Americans”? That, my friends, is incredibly backwards thinking.

  44. Marie says:

I think Rush Limbaugh is the real name, but Jeff Christie was a radio alias he used to use.
There is a lot of evidence to suggest he is a closeted homosexual, which makes him a hypocrite.
He is a known drug offender, which makes him a felon.

  45. Pilotshark says:

Rush’s real name is Jeff Christie

No i think if you look that was his made up air name while in Pittsburgh. he is using his real name now.

but its a place to start and work up for him.

  46. Xisithrus says:

    Interesting factoid:

In 1930, when Hank Williams Sr was seven years old, his father began suffering from face paralysis. At a Veterans Affairs clinic in Pensacola, Florida, doctors determined that the cause was a brain aneurysm, so they sent Elonzo Williams to the VA Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana. Lonnie remained hospitalized for eight years and was therefore mostly absent throughout Hank’s childhood.

Is Hank Williams Jr against ’socialist healthcare’?

For all the good it will do, hannity should go on a campaign against Dijon mustard that Obama puts on his hamburger, its French. I was wondering when stupid became a Fox Republican News point of view.

  49. tballou says:

I am sure Obama will find a way to reach a bipartisan agreement with the Repugs on this matter – after all, that approach has been so successful in every other aspect of his feckless presidency.

Again the right wing shows their hypocrisy. Hannity spent at least a month covering one sentence from Jeremiah Wright but I haven’t heard him criticize “Pastor” Steven Anderson for his “Why I hate Barack Obama” sermon or Governor Mark Sanford for trashing the family values the right holds so dear. It’s frustrating to watch three college drop out radio show hosts use the less fortunate political underclass to run The United States of America into the gutter of a third world existence.

    People, stop using “czar”.

When all this mess over Obama’s election started, it was a few small and vocal fringe groups – each with their own agenda and none very powerful. However, I think we have underestimated what’s going on. These fringers are uniting, thanks to the likes of corporate money, Fox, Limbaugh, etc. and they are becoming extremely powerful. We have got to all do whatever we can to combat this.

There is no way that I can think of to get the message out to the Fox watchers. They won’t watch anything else and Fox certainly won’t allow opposing viewpoints, nor admit any lies and distortions. Fox-aholics won’t read blogs or websites that tell the truth, like this site, Media Matters, FactCheck, etc. From personal experience, our local newspaper and blog are both very conservative and refuse to print any of my letters to the editor or blogs.

MSM MUST get on the ball and start pointing out the fallacies and show support for our president. We also need a strong leader to come forward and start standing up to the nutters.

You have never been held accountable publically on the monies you’ve raised ( from Freedom Concerts) and the monies you’ve donated (to Freedom Alliance) and it’s about time!

Wow, considering Hannity’s unbridled hatred of czars I’d hate to be around the next time he runs into Karl Rove. Rove was appointed Domestic Policy Czar by GWB in 2004. Bush’s Abstinence Czar, Tobias Randall retired after being implicated in the DC Madam scandal. His Democracy Czar from 2005-2008 was PNAC signatory and unabashed neocon Elliott Abrams. Just a cursory glance at Bush’s picks in case Hannity wants to go there.

  88. Chickenbone Bill says:

    aaronk,
Hannity has never divulged what the name of his so-called charity is. It’s not Freedom Concerts.I have searched for 3 years trying to find out what his 501c3 is called, if he even has one!
He claims at premierespeakers.org/sean_hannity/bio that in 2007 he donated $10,000,000 to Freedom Alliance, however Freedom Alliance’s Form 990 (for 501c3 charities)in 2007 shows no such donation! Hannity claims that in 5 concerts he held in 07, that 60,000 donated 10 million! The highest priced ticket was only $125.00 and not all of that was donated to Freedom Alliance. Every single person attending those 5 concerts would have had to pay $166.6666… to make up the $10 million donation!
go to guidestar.org registrar, then type in Freedom Alliance, click on the first one in the list and read their 990’s, as you’ll see no donation of $10,000,000 by Hannity or anyone.

And they spend 90% sometimes on Admin fees….

religious agencies dont even have to report anything.

Why the focus on administration costs?

Charity rating agencies have very little information with which to work. In the US the only annual reporting required is the IRS I-90 form. Religious agencies don’t even have that requirement. As the Philanthrocapitalism article points out, getting any other information from aid agencies is extremely difficult.

Charities help themselves more often than they help others.

  96. dasm says:

Oh, & the “starting now” crap??? When has Hannity ever NOT tried to destroy the President?
Hannity is an anti-American who incites terrorism. He should be at least investigated, if not jailed. Imagine if all his lies & smears had been leveled against Bush? Hannity would be incarcerated for years. Repub pundits are liars, too lazy to look for truth, & don’t even care about honesty. They make up pretty well everything they say. No facts, no research, no honesty. Any lie, any untruth, any smear to promote themselves & the lying Repubs. Country be damned.

  97. aaronk says:

chickenbone, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hannity’s charity had problems all over it. I am a conservative on many issues, but I can’t stand Hannity at all. He blasts GM for their government deal on his show, then gives paid testimonials for them during his commercials. I wrote into his show about that, but got no response.

  100. Chickenbone Bill says:

    Fred,
Freedom Alliance since 2003 has only spent on average per year .032 on their reason to be a charity.Look at it this way: Since 2003 excluding 2008 they collected $48,241,571 in cash donations “BUT” only spent $1,781,782 on scholarships and direct cash grants to the wounded troops!
That’s it, for every $48 that’s donated they return roughly $1.78!
In Freedom Alliance’s last reportable year 2007 (2008 hasn’t been made public yet) they collected $12,459,317 in donations and returned $895,347 to the wounded veterans and their families! Look at 2004, collected $8,691,695 and returned back to the vets/families $105,250!
Hannity says he’s been donating to Freedom Alliance from his Freedom Concerts since 2003 but there is no proof!
In closing, on Fri Aug 21 at Kings Island, Hannity held a Freedom Concert and the media was banned from the concert!
    Wonder why?

  111. brothejr says:

These people are not about the constitution or fairness, they are only here to try and make Obama look as bad as possible. I have a feeling that if they continue on, they will find things getting much harder for themselves.

They only care when it is the opposite party in the white house.

  112. christopher wiwi says:

I know Insannity never graduated college, did Becky or Limpballs ever finish College?Do any of these HACKS know what a civics class is about? They keep fomenting the HATE?R/RACISM and some right wing nut job is going to unload a gun on some progressive again!

  113. Game of Life says:

This is a self-destructed game these teabagger are playing. They tried to politicized everything, take over everything without viable options for the people.

I doubt President Obama will call on bipartisanship on this loopy repug bullshit.

I say let the truth come out, that’s what we want. The truth.

repugs are the aholes that prevent progress.

teabaggers have this stupid notion that antonyms for progressives\liberals\dems are stupid\crazy\racist\tables.

It’s amazing how stupid people want a stupid leader. repugs have a small base and shouldn’t be taken seriously.

    The truth can’t be politicized.

Van should get his job back.

  114. christopher wiwi says:

brothejr, Not just a Democrat but a Black man is in the White House! They can`t help but foment the hate towards the president,if we would done have this during 8 years of SHRUB and Darth Cheney`s Administration we would have been branded unamerican or traitors, but they don`t see the HYPOCRISY at all, this all about their party and not about the country.

  115. Game of Life says:

    lokidog says:
Congress should pass a law getting rid of all czars so scum like any of the anti-American wingnut blowards and the GOP can’t play politics with the issue.

Yeah that will happen when the repugs start fcuking up again, OK? Until then this African-American President shall get all rights and privileges afforded to the office.

    repugs will fight with lint.
“Hey lint, you should be heavy,” said the smart repug.

  116. Incars says:

Repugs need to fought, I urge everyone on this thread to make that clear to their elected Democratic reps. I had the opportunity to talk to Sen. Franken and told him to fight the good fight, don’t back down. Sen. Franken is one we can count on, I know this, he IS for the little guy.

  120. EugeneDebs says:

If Hannity had an ounce of integrity he would come on his show tonight and tell his audience that he is a moron who is not even close to qualified to give political analysis. That if you have been taking him seriously you are an idiot and he is resigning in disgrace. Of course we could also say if pigs had wings they would fly

  121. kwsventures says:

I believe the last real czar and his family were exterminated by Lenin, Stalin, Trotsky and the boys. Loving, caring communists those guys.

  122. pete says:

That’s the most amusing part. The poor Reichwhiners, apparently, don’t realize that the Czar’s Imperial Russia was, virtually, the opposite of the Soviet Union. In fact, the mere existence of a Czar is anathema to communism. Alas, the poor freaks are not, largely, educated enough to even know what they are raving about.

So, what are they afraid of? Are they afraid that Obama is a communist or an imperialist. They don’t seem to realize that the two are mutually exclusive.

    http:/ /wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_czars_in_the_bush_administration
Many people want to downplay the number of Czars that Bush appointed, due to the controversy being created over President Obama’s use of Czars. Actually, Bush used many Czars! Here is a partial list of the czars that he appointed during his administration:
    Cyber Security Czar
    Regulatory Czar
    AIDS Czar
    Bird Flu Czar
    Intelligence Czar
    Health IT Czar
    Katrina Czar
    Manufacturing Czar
    Drug Czar
    Domestic Policy Czar
    War Czar
    Copyright Czar
    Abstinence Czar
    Mine Safety Czar
    Latin American Czar
    WTO Czar
    Corruption Czar
    Privacy Czar
    Sudan Czar
and Health Czar, to name more than a few.

    p.s.
    Bush II had 36 Czars…
    http:/ /en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._executive_branch_czars

    And SP Biloxi says:

Beck: “Never before have there been so many executive posts that were not confirmed by Congress and who answered only to the president.”

Let’s review some of the czar titles [which were wasteful titles] that the Sith Administration created:

    a. For information technology infrastructure, Bush named a cybersecurity czar.

    b. For Beck: “Never before have there been so many executive posts that were not confirmed by Congress and who answered only to the president.”

Let’s review some of the czar titles that the Sith Administration created:

    a. For information technology infrastructure, Bush named a cybersecurity czar.

    b. For corporate benefactors led to the creation of a “regulatory czar” at the Office of Management and Budget.

    c. “AIDS Czar” was created. Bush appointed Randall Tobias who later resigned becuase he was client of the DC Madam.

    d. For struggling manufacturing industries, Bush appointed a “manufacturing czar.”

    e. To correct the failed national security intelligence Bush created an “intelligence czar” position.

    f. “Bird-flu czar” created for the bird flu epidemic.

    g. In handling of the response to Hurricane Katrina, there was a “Katrina czar.”

Beck wouldn’t know the definition of a “czar” if it bit him in the butt. I bet if Obama created a media czar position that would oversee all the media coverages of the White House, Beck and Fox News would go through hoops to apply for that job in a heart beat.

  124. bellarose says:

There is no word for Hannity , Beck, et al in the English language. I may not agree with Obama all the time, but his life story is admirable and his intentions are honerable. The whiners at Fox with their paronid, victim mentality aren’t fit to shine Obama’s shoes. Multimillionares sitting in glitzy studios spreading cheap lies to fatten their wallets. How pitiful and what a dispicable life calling, while legions are out doing the real work of holding the country together these clowns beam their hate across the airways and try to bring the country down. They bring out the worst in people and encourage them to see themselves as victims and infantilize their viewers.
Sadly, it seems we are stuck with them under their protection of “free speech”.
