A decision by the University of Wyoming to name a center for international students after former Vice President Dick Cheney is “stirring conflict and protest in an otherwise conservative state.” Protesters have voiced concerns that Cheney’s support for the Iraq war and torture should “disqualify him from that distinction”:
“We feel that by naming it the Cheney International Center, that the programs and UW can’t avoid being identified with that ideology and that approach to global politics that the Bush-Cheney administration championed,” [Suzanne] Pelican said Tuesday. […]
“Mr. Cheney is not the best example of demonstrating how nations should get along with each other,” said [Nancy] Sindelar, who is retired. “Putting his name on an international center is counterintuitive.”
Cheney and wife Lynne are expected to attend a dedication tomorrow of the new Cheney International Center (CIC) (we think that’s pronounced “sick”). The center is funded in part with $3.2 million the Cheneys donated to the university.
CIC Dick,indeed.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:39 pmRepuke-licans love them some hypocrisy, shove up everyone else a$$.
Fcuking losers.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:39 pmI have a better title: Cheney International Torture Center….CITC.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:39 pmAtta way, U.W.! Academic integrity at its finest! If I were on the faculty, I would start a boycott. The administration obviously has no shame.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:40 pmNow we know why they gave such short notice…
I wonder how much Cheney gave the school for this honer?
September 9th, 2009 at 12:41 pmI suspect that Cheney doesn’t like the word International in the title.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:42 pmGet busy with your “letter writin’ pens”:

September 9th, 2009 at 12:42 pmOops, I missed the last sentence. *blush*
September 9th, 2009 at 12:42 pmConsidering Cheney may have moved to rendition certain of the international students, that’s pretty reprehensible.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:43 pmThe international students should begin packing their bags immediately, and transfer to other schools in this country.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:45 pmWill this new center have displays of Cheney’s favorite toys…Hot coals, the rack, waterboarding, whips, etc?
September 9th, 2009 at 12:46 pmDick says – (Grumble, mutter, grimace) I pull the strings here, ME, the DICKSTER, I spied on heads of that University and they are now MY puppets, MINE. They would be wise not to do anything but what I tell them or they may end up in a plane crash like Connell, or maybe be found hung in their closet with a suicide note like the DC Madam. What I would really like though is to pull off another 911 on someone, anyone, MY master, Satan, just loves that stuff, all fire and chaos. I could then blame Obama for it too, double payoff, my crack team of corrupt criminals in congress and the senate could then reap the rewards by blaming the Democrat Party of being weak on National Security, I could unlease the hounds of hell, you know the MSM and they will do what ever my master tells them to do…now what did I tell you to do George?
George says – Uh? Get you some fresh blood from cute kittens and puppies?
Dick says – DO IT NOW, my master, Satan requires their sacrifice.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:46 pmI’m living in Bizzaro world.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:47 pmThere will be a lot of name changing in the future when Bush and Cheney are found guilty of international war crimes, and domestic corruption.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:47 pmDick Cheney, the most hated man in this country? Or the most hated man on the planet?
September 9th, 2009 at 12:48 pmZooey,
Good one. I’m going with the most hated man on the planet.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:49 pmMaybe “Cheney International Detention Center”.
Or just Gitmo, North Campus.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:50 pmGood choice, Rich.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:50 pm…
…
Yeah, when I think of Dick Cheney, I think international relations…It’s OBVIOUS…
(sigh)
September 9th, 2009 at 12:51 pmMaybe they intend to use “Enhanced Interrogation” as a Entrance “test”?

Protesters? You think they give a fck about protesters? Boycott, protest, write letters, fcking dick will say, ’so go fck yourself’.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:51 pmThe center is funded in part with $3.2 million the Cheneys donated to the university.
And we all paid for this thru his WAR PROFITING and corruption.
Dick is an admitted WAR CRIMINAL, which shows what kind of morals the University of Wyomin upholds.
And GeorgeandDick, that was pretty f’n funny. Me likey.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:52 pmnext Dick will have all the libur professors rendition flighted to a undisclosed re-ed camp. So they be able to see the world correctly CIC-DICKS way.

September 9th, 2009 at 12:55 pmI think that it would be more fitting to rename the Army War College in honor of “Dick”. The the war college could be moved to Wyoming perhaps near the Little Bighorn site. It seems appropriate to me.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:55 pmPutting the “why” in Wyoming.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:55 pm3.2 million isn’t much when you consider all the money he and Bush (if he was smart enough) funneled off the war profiteers – along with the millions of $100 bills stacked on pallets that disappeared in Iraq.
Probably much less than 10% of what he stole – I’d guess 2- 3% tops.
September 9th, 2009 at 12:57 pmThat three million dollars that the Cheneys have “donated” is blood money from their Halliburton earnings due to the Iraq crap.
How many Iraqis died horrible deaths for this money?
How many American soldiers died horrible deaths, or are living with mutilated, broken bodies for this money?
Why isn’t Cheney facing criminal prosecution?
September 9th, 2009 at 12:57 pmOne more thing: are we sure that Wyoming has a universiy? Are we sure its not a high school?
September 9th, 2009 at 12:57 pmtundra and storm, enjoy wallowing in your assumed victory.

Can we give Cheney one more student deferment here?
September 9th, 2009 at 12:58 pmtundra and storm, enjoy wallowing in your assumed victory.
What victory? Honestly it’s pretty stupid to name anything with a foreign relations slant after Cheney. But you have to admit the irony is marketing you just cant buy.
September 9th, 2009 at 1:00 pmAfter Duhbya’s Lieberry at SMU, the CIC aspires to be America’s Second Most Pissed-On college campus building.
I’m sure it won’t disappoint when it comes to attracting the urinary ire of inebriated collegians for decades to come.
September 9th, 2009 at 1:00 pmWell we have Columbus Day, cruel and not even the first caucasian to land here (Vikings).
We have some Jefferson Davis high schools… that went well.
Actually this is a good idea. Just have everything from 1994 when he denounced invading to Baghdad for obvious military reasons.
And have some commemorative portraits on porcelain… toilets and maybe some killer showers.
Maybe the mascot can change to the Chickenhawks.

September 9th, 2009 at 1:00 pmjust heard that BAUCUS now says he doesn’t have a bill…
guess k-street didn’t like what he showed them earlier…
They honestly believe this is a good idea? Naming ANYTHING after Cheney is a very BAD idea. I thought the Spanish were looking to investigate not only the lawyers involved with torture, but good ole Dick himself. Awkward!
September 9th, 2009 at 1:01 pmYou got to be kidding me!!! This is absurd of UW to honor such a monster like this. Now we got Texas grooming future racist and now UW is grooming future tortures. The conservatives are turning America into such a hateful place to live.
September 9th, 2009 at 1:01 pmI’ll bet he waterboarded the board for this honor. This proves that all you need in America to get ahead or get honors is lots of money….not so different from those Middle Eastern countries where officials hold on to government positions year after year (Israel, Afganistan, Iraq).
September 9th, 2009 at 1:01 pmJoe,

September 9th, 2009 at 1:03 pmJust think of it as the Rocky Mountain campus of the School For The Americas. They’ll get training in terrorism, murder, disappearances, and in (conservative) Wyoming, nobody’ll care much if they practice on gays and other despised people…
September 9th, 2009 at 1:04 pmkaty, I never felt that BAUCUS ever had a bill. It was the “theoretical bi-partisan” bill that was never any such thing. It was ghost writing from the beginning. It is and always has been irrelivant.

September 9th, 2009 at 1:15 pmCheney, “I`m absolutely convinced that the threat we face now, the idea of a terrorist in the middle of one of our cities…, is very real and that we have to use extraordinary measures to deal with it.”
So their extraordinary measure was to name a building after him?
Dick, “Here’s 3.2 million, sorry about the blood. I sucked out all I could. If it’s any consolation it’s mostly American blood.”
Most often heard sentence on campus in the future, “Hey man, where’s the Cheney building, I REALLY have to take a piss?”

September 9th, 2009 at 1:27 pmI would think a more appropriate place to attach Cheney’s name to would be the infamous ‘School of the Americas’, aka ‘School of Assassins’, considering how much both the school and the Dick have eroded this country’s image over the years.
September 9th, 2009 at 1:29 pmTundra says:

September 9th, 2009 at 1:29 pm$3.2M reasons it was named after the former VP. That is how the world has always worked people.
September 9th, 2009 at 1:48 pmThe world doesnt need money nor does it put names on buildings.
September 9th, 2009 at 1:57 pmI missread the quote. I thought it read “Cheney informational Center” and I nearly choked.
September 9th, 2009 at 2:01 pmIs this center for international students a torture building, if so then very appropriate naming. Otherwise, it’s time for them to stop smoking meth.
September 9th, 2009 at 2:01 pmCheney hates foreigners this is probably his way of saying ‘Screw you’
September 9th, 2009 at 2:08 pmI think the Attila the Hun International Center has a nicer ring to it, yes?
September 9th, 2009 at 2:10 pmkwsventures says:

Maybe, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. And in this particular case, it’s a stupid one.
September 9th, 2009 at 2:16 pm3.2 miiliion, so he donated $1. for each person killed or displaced in Iraq.
September 9th, 2009 at 2:17 pmStupid question?:
Other than giving money to the University, just what has Cheney done to encourage internationals to come to the University ? Shouldn’t that be a measure of whether the building is named for him ?
Let’s see:
September 9th, 2009 at 2:21 pmInvade Afghanistan…check
Invade Iran …..check
Body cavity searches at the border….check
.
.
.
Why would anyone, including residents, want to attend the U of W? The university regents have overestimated the attraction that the center would create. In fact, it is more likely to dissuade many students, foreign and US, from going to the U of W.
September 9th, 2009 at 2:24 pmCheney wanted a legacy, so he bought it and kept the receipt from the University of Wyoming.
I just hope the name of the building is transferable when Dick’s heart shrivels up after that prune goes to pitch black.
September 9th, 2009 at 3:19 pmAs I recall the money was Halliburton stocks he gave to the university just before he was sworn in as vp. So he got a big tax write off and now a building named after him.
September 9th, 2009 at 3:32 pmWhy not call the “center” the “Cheney Torture Center” or the Cheney Center for Torture Studies”/ I’m sure that the CIA will endow t he chair.
September 9th, 2009 at 4:21 pmCheney International Center (CIC) (we think that’s pronounced “sick”).
BWAH! I say *this* is the best revenge!
September 9th, 2009 at 7:24 pmNaming a center for international students after D!ckless Cheney is comparable to naming a yeshiva after Herrmann Goering.
September 10th, 2009 at 7:08 pmThank you for your sharing.!
September 11th, 2009 at 3:29 pmAs a UW grad I would like to add a different view.
First, to the protesters, don’t expect change from an institution that has full time staff members who qualify for food stamps and yet spend millions on new buildings.
Second, UW has a long history with Dick. He earned two degrees at UW. He spoke on campus when he was Sec. of Def. and in 1990 he received an Honorary Degree.
Third, I find it funny all the discussion about his heart issues (do we know if he actually has one?). The building where CIC is, used to house the Student Health Center; it seems rather symbolic or ironic.
Fourth, while at UW I meet students their spouses and children who were from Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan and I now wonder how they (and others) will feel on campus now?
Fifth, the Little Big Horn Battlefield is actually in southern Montana (70 miles north of Sheridan, WY).
