Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-SC) shameful screed from the back-benches of the congressional gallery last night has made him a cause célèbre for the far right. The “freeper” posters at the Free Republic called for donations to Wilson (that post was subsequently removed). Republican activist Patrick Ruffini encouraged his Twitter followers to contribute to Wilson. Calling the South Carolina congressman a “great American hero,” RedState.com’s Erick Erickson posted this fundraising solicitation on his site:
Joe Wilson has been identified as the Republican who yelled out that Barack Obama was a liar.
He gets a drink on me!
CONTRIBUTE TO JOE WILSON HERE. Joe Wilson’s opponent raised $11,000.00 in an hour after Joe Wilson stood up to Barack Obama. We must help Joe Wilson.
While the far right circled the wagons around Wilson, Democratic activists quickly opened their pocketbooks for Rob Miller, “an Iraq War veteran who unsuccessfully challenged Wilson in 2008 and is seeking a rematch next year.” By 10 am this morning, nearly $60,000 had been donated on Miller’s ActBlue’s page.
Cool
More money for his opponent
Less money for right wing idiots to pay trailer rental and lot fees.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:42 amHis actions leave no doubt that racism is not dead in South Carolina. There’s no other explanation for it, none at all.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:43 amI’m sure he will have a lifetime gig making the rounds on fix news and other wingnut functions.
Look out Sarah and Bachmann…you have some competition in the nut house!!!
September 10th, 2009 at 10:44 amHardly unexpected, folks.
The White Wing feels threatened right now. An uppity Black man stole the show last night, while a retarded redneck blew it.
Let’s move on to health care reform & join our President…
September 10th, 2009 at 10:44 amI don’t suppose Joe Wilson or any of his fans would care to explain WHY what the President said was a “lie”?
Any evidence? Anything to back up that accusation? Anything at all?
I thought not. The goal here is to brand the POTUS as a “liar” for political points. It’s not like any of their choir is going to demand some justification before reaching for their checkbooks.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:46 amStupid White Men.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:48 amhmmm… two threads in a row now…
so it worked… this oaf managed to steal the thunder after all…
even at TP…
September 10th, 2009 at 10:49 am***
joe,
that’s an ugly tie.
:)
September 10th, 2009 at 10:49 amRight-wing activists seek to reward Rep. Joe Wilson with campaign donations.
– - Good work, Joe. Keep it up and you can run for President of the Confederacy.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:54 amI do not give a rabid rat’s reeking ass about heckling. I only wish the Dims had had the stones to do it when the Chimp was making free with the truth about WMDs and the invasion of Iraq.
What bothers me is that I don’t read a WORD of what Obama said last night that would cause a fleeting (fellating) second’s anxiety among the Health Insurance Parasites (HIP) as to the continued excess profitability of the ‘industry.’ Their stocks are rising quite nicely this morning…
As long as there’s a profit incentive, there will be corruption. They will cheat us and pfuque us, and rip us off, and leave us dying; they just don’t give a shit, as long as the money’s there…
To the extent that the HIP ‘can live’ with any Congressional reform, that is the index of how far Obama and the Dims will shove CorpoRat profits up our asses…And laugh all the way to the industrially financed polls…
September 10th, 2009 at 10:55 amReward rude behavior?
September 10th, 2009 at 10:55 amThe Republicans don’t even realize how far out of step they are with the rest of the country.
We must help Joe Wilson.
Yeah …………You can start be teaching the brainless oaf some fu(king manners …………..
September 10th, 2009 at 10:56 amJoe Wilson’s outburst is the best thing to happen to ObamaCare, ever.
Watch.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:57 amRep. Wilson is alreadying collecting from the Insurance Company big bucks to make sure the Health Plan fails now his friends are helping him along. As the middle class and poor voters of South Carolina suffer their Rep. Wilson is making sure they get nothing but he wants their vote to keep getting his kick back money. Even Rep. Wilson’s son is running for office as he’s following his Father’s advice. At lease Rep. Wilson made the History Books as no Law Makers has been disrespectful to a US President in 200 years while the President gives his speech to the House live on TV. Just think how young people will now use Rep. Wilson when they show disrespect to adults. Wilson was paid very well to preform last night and he earned his money. Now the apology was for show only and he’ll tell the wing nuts he never really didn’t mean the apology. Just how much lower will the GOP go as we see Rep. Wilson and even Duvall got money and sex for his vote.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:57 amRight-wing activists seek to reward Rep. Joe Wilson with campaign donations.
– - At the next joint session of Congress speech, Wilson will be wearing a pointy, white hood. He’ll be the envy of everyone on his side of the aisle.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:57 amThe New Hysterical Right never ceases to amaze me with their out of control, feverish pitches.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:57 amExcite the fringes, lose the middle.

“…this oaf managed to steal the thunder after all…”
I wouldn’t want it any other way. Don’t you guys get it? All these headlines are HELPING. They’re pushing back against this idiot.
I swear, it’s as if Wilson had been bribed by George Soros to help.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:59 amYou ever read Free Republic? There are a serious bunch of lunatics that post there.I am endlessly amused and shocked at the same time. They lierally worship Sarah Palin and think she is the smartest, most adroit politician on the planet. The freepers will believe till the day they die that Obama was born in Kenya and groomed by extremists to destroy America. I can’t figure out how that can even hang together.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:00 amAnd we expect anything else from these losers? Who cares what FreeRepublic thinks. Last I heard, the right wing was rendered irrelevant in Novermber, 2006 and continues down its death spiral at an astonishing pace.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:05 amCould you imagine the reaction if someone had the balls to call ‘The Gipper’ Reagan a liar? Could you imagine how the Righties would have reacted? They would be screaming for blood! I wrote yesterday how these Repugs would destroy themselves. Maybe Karma will kick butt this time.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:08 amLast night just reinforced what the President said on Monday at a Labor Day speech – the opposition has no ideas.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:08 am- – Henry Fairlie on Wilson:
“Just as Americans in general do not have the habits of deference, so the conservative in America does not have them either. Ultimately he does not defer even to the country’s institutions. If one of these institutions, such as the Supreme Court, makes decisions he detests, he will defame that institution. He is as ready as is the common man to bypass the institutions he ought to defend.”
September 10th, 2009 at 11:09 amEverytime time the wingnuts do something completely out of touch with reality I ask myself, “how much lower can they get?” But I guess their crazy and stupid is a bottomless pit.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:10 amFrom the Huffington Post: here is a Paul Hipp video celebrating America’s proud ranking in the World Health Organization’s list of world health systems for all the obstructionist hecklers to sing as they continue down the road to total irrelevance.
Enjoy!!
“We’re Number 37!”
September 10th, 2009 at 11:12 amIt’s on. Not that we all didn’t know that already. But now it’s out there in plain sight.
From now until the 2010 election this jerk’s face will be right up there smirking and oinking. The fact that his Democratic opponent, Rob Miller, made it a surprisingly close race in the last election, AND that he is an Iraq veteran and a Marine, will certainly make this fight interesting. And potentially very ugly.
Obama looked like he wanted to go over and sock Wilson and did NOT look happy after the speech. Any remaining vestiges of hope for bi-partisanship went out the door right then and there.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:13 amSmokin’ Joe Wilson has already been rewarded for his bad behavior! Over his entire congressional career, health professionals represent Wilson?s top industry contributors, donating a total of $244,196 to his campaign, according to the Center for Responsive Politics OpenSecrets.org database. He received another $86,150 from pharmaceutical companies, $73,050 from insurance companies and $68,000 from hospitals and nursing homes.
What will more contributions encourage? More bad behavior, no doubt.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:14 amNo ideas, can`t believe the truth when it`s staring them in the face and spew forth hate to everyone who is not Reich(right),white and wealthy……..all because we have a Democrat in the W.H. who just happens to be of African descent. So much for their Christian (Aryan ) beliefs.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:15 amYou know this is kind of Off Topic but I have to say something. On CNNs ‘Ticker’ they have a article about how Wilson’s opponent raised over $100,000 after Wilson’s petty outburst, and after only two comments, CNN closed down the article. This kind of thing has been going on for months now. Anything that looks somewhat favorable to Dems or Obama, they shut down. Unless it is about Palin. Then they let people fire off because she is no longer a pol.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:16 amMore and more the right wing is becoming scary. It has been bad enough to have them act nutty like Bachmann and Palin, but overt anger displayed by Wilson and the little sign carriers give a really scary/frightening message to their deranged followers. Respected conservative leaders have to speak up and say…”ENOUGH!”
September 10th, 2009 at 11:16 amWell, ya know, katy… it’s not really true in politics that “any publicity is good publicity”.
Just ask Van Jones.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:17 amJoe Wilson violated the Code of Official Conduct.
This is clear. What’s also clear is the GOP is backed into a corner. Now is the time to respond with facts. Grow a spine democrats and come out swinging.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:18 amExcellent. If the right-wing keeps reinforcing their own petulance and bad behavior, that can only help the relatively more mature party with the independents who actually decide elections.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:20 amLooks like Wilson has activated the domestic terrorist cells.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:20 amTom at #27: Do you have more of this kind of info on others in Congress? Thanks. Well done and proof that the No Sayers are paid off, and care only about their own welfare.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:22 amDifference between Fox & CNN:
Fox is staffed 99% with KKK while CNN is controlled by KKK at top level, enough to beam anti-Obama news all the time.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:23 amIt’s like the New Hysterical Right wants to turn our country into a Jerry Springer show.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:24 amThis brain dead hick may have done more with two words to move reform forward than Obama’s entire speech. Americans are not used to heckling in Congress and it usually is not well received. Stripping the thin veneer away and seeing the Republics for their brutal, oafish selves can only help the process.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:26 amHas anyone noticed the absence of trolls today? They must all be busy at Rednecksstate and Freeperville, plotting their next act of domestic terrorism.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:28 amWorking American says:
It’s like the New Hysterical Right HAVE TURNED our country into a Jerry Springer show.

September 10th, 2009 at 11:30 amWell… somebody just guaranteed themselves a paying gig w/ Fox Snooze…
Now that their political career is coming to an end…
September 10th, 2009 at 11:32 amI don’t believe Wilson, an attorney and former judge, “lost control”. THAT’S a Lie!
September 10th, 2009 at 11:34 amrj1008 says:
“while CNN is controlled by KKK at top level…”
_____________
Could this be described as “trickle-down management”?
September 10th, 2009 at 11:34 amNo need to help Wilson who has got over 250k dollars from the private IV yanker industry.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:35 amAli played “rope-a-dope” because he thought his opponent was stupid and he was right.
Last night, it became clear to me that Wilson and his repub friends have been rope-a-doped. Obama and his very intelligent staff probably knew early on that repubs were not going to cooperate with anything. There were no repub votes for the stimulus package and before that, repubs stunk up the nation with their absurd charges that Obama was a terrorist during the election. Now, it is clearer than ever to all but the lunatic fringe that repubs have gone around the bend and they will not cooperate with anything. This demonstrates to the independents in the middle that Obama is not to blame if a health care bill has no republican support and undercuts the mainstream media’s ridiculous demand for bipartisanship.
Republicans have been rope-a-doped!
September 10th, 2009 at 11:36 amToo the Joe Wilsons of the Republican Party:
Know this:
When the Joe Wilsons’ disrespect the President of the United States of America by calling him a liar; you should have your facts correct.
The Joe Wilsons’ of the Republican Party represent the “Jim Crow” style of governing that are disrespectful, out dated and disingenuous.
Where are the Republicans HR 3200 Amendments to prevent or disallow illegal to receive federal dollars in this Health Care Plan? It is already law and its statue is referenced in HR 3200.
Rep. Joe Wilsons you have single handedly did what the president could not do. You Sir have united the Democratic Party on Health Care Reform. Your Apology is not accepted.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:42 amRepugs and wingnuts are so pathetic lately. They dont give a sht about the American people. The dems know that repugs will never agree with them, they are the party of no. So I say fck the repugs and just push healthcare reform thru. When the repugs stop acting like children when they dont get their way, then the dems should invite them back to the adult table.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:42 amRemember when the republican party stood for decency and honor?
Yeah, me neither…just asking
September 10th, 2009 at 11:43 amHow did a war vet lose in a race to this p.o.s.?
September 10th, 2009 at 11:43 amLet’s never let it be forgotten that Repubs have no respect for the President of the United States.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:43 amThe gNOp are really sore losers — and even sorer winners.
They look and sound ridiculous and will further shrink the tent as sensible minded folks stray away from Geraldo antics
September 10th, 2009 at 11:47 amRich: “How did a war vet lose in a race to this p.o.s.?”
Conservatives don’t respect the military. They just say they do. Remember when they beat a triple-amputee veteran by showing pictures of him morphing into Osama bin Laden? Remember how they allowed the VA hospitals to crumble and fall apart? Remember how they swiftboated a multiple medal winner veteran of the war in Viet Nam? Remember how they loved a guy who couldn’t even fulfill his obligations to the National Guard? Conservatives don’t give a damn about military service unless it serves their political goals.

September 10th, 2009 at 11:52 amAnd for all the smear campaigns leading up to the election, just like today, didnt make for a republican win yet the are continuing the thing that caused them to lose, for people to want change.
Keep up the good work FOX.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:55 amgood morning Ninerfan,
Continuing the conversation from yesterday. I was really surprised by the speach. Maybe I’d become too jaded over the years. You were right, he kicked some butt – and it was great to watch.
Even though the right totally disrespects the military you’d think the common man wouldn’t. However, there’s nothing common about white men from the south, the single stupidest group in the country.
I guess that explains it – and they just happen to hate black people.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:55 amAccording to CNN’s Political Ticker, the contributions to Miller’s website are currently up to $200,000.
September 10th, 2009 at 12:00 pmThis isn’t necessarily a BAD thing. It forces the GOP (and their donors) to spend money in what would normally be a cakewalk.
Mmm, cake.
And still an hour before lunch. Damn.
September 10th, 2009 at 12:01 pmThe people of Wilson’s congressional district should realize his effectiveness as their representative is gone. He will have no credibility within the Congress from this point on. They should seriously consider getting a new congressman. Everytime Joe interacts with a another member, or a citizen, or special interest, they will know who he is, what he did, and that he is not a serious person.
September 10th, 2009 at 12:02 pmI would be glad to donate money to provide a drink for Rep. Wilson…
…but there are people on the street who are asking me the same thing.
They asked first. Sorry, Mr. Wilson.
September 10th, 2009 at 12:13 pmIt is time to PULL THE PLUG on the repugnant party once and for all!
Passing “Health Care Reform” will undoubtedly take care of that.
They’re irrelevant and they know it, all they can do is make as much noise as possible.

If I had the money, I’d give Joe Wilson’s competitor millions of dollars just to defeat this jackass. I think we should vote all republicans out of office. They are not worthy to be in office.

Rich H says:
How did a war vet lose in a race to this p.o.s.?
From what I’ve read Miller actually surprised Wilson by coming as close as he did in that race. Miller was new to the scene but Wilson was only able to beat him by 54%, in contrast to his three previous outings in which he beat his opponents by 62%-84%.
McCain also won SC by 54%.
Also, Wilson also claims strong support for the military and of course had stints in the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard. But calling his CIC a liar may influence some of our veterans.

September 10th, 2009 at 1:08 pmClearly the incivility in Washington has been, is being, and will be fueled by the wholly own subsidiary of special interests–the rich right and its mindless echo chambers at FAUX News, Murdoch papers, Reverend Moon’s Washington Times, Clear Channel radio, and funded by the Hunts, the Coors, and many other fat cats. It is time treating birthers, tenthers, and astro turfers as if they were a part of a dialogue aimed at steering America anywhere but into the pockets of the rich and their factotums.
September 10th, 2009 at 1:09 pmSTORM, nan4tjn, so typical of you to bring up “the Dems did it first” answer. Is that really what is most important right now, who did what first? This nation we both call home is in such a state of hatred and contempt that NOTHING is getting done and we’ve resorted to name calling, fist-fights and blatant acts of anarchy. When Republicans are in power we seem to start wars and fights and follow an agenda of international hate and contempt coupled with Tax breaks for the wealthy and deregulation. When a Democrat is POTUS, the right wing looneys get all worked up and commit heinous acts of violence against their fellow citizens instead. Can’t you guys see that that is what your leaders WANT? Or maybe that is what YOU want. How ’bout we all just step back and attempt to place our energy into something productive for ALL, like health care, like a fair and equitable tax code, like our own damned roads and highways, like education for crying out loud.
September 10th, 2009 at 1:17 pmHe was born in 1947 and should have served in Viet Nam. Lucky for him his political connections managed to keep him out of the war since he signed up in 1972 when they stopped sending troops. Coincidence? I don’t think so. But he should have learned enough to pay respect to the Commander in Chief.
September 10th, 2009 at 1:38 pmSTORM and nan4tjn, how does if feel to be dumber than a box of rocks?
September 10th, 2009 at 1:39 pmSTORM, those people weren’t saying “Booooo”.
They were saying that STORM’s evidence was “weeeeeeeeak”.
Did you hear anyone call him a liar? Did you hear anyone yell at the President? Interrupt him? I did not hear ANYONE speak out of turn.

Obama disrespected the nation by lying.
—
September 10th, 2009 at 1:57 pmAbout what? His small business?
Obama said the health care plan will not add to the national deficit. LMAO.
If medicare is some great, well-oiled, government health care plan, why do we need to cut out so much waste in it? And why do we have to wait to cut the waste. Do it right now. LMAO.
September 10th, 2009 at 2:13 pmWord is that Joe Wilson gets lots of money from insurance companies. He knows which side of his bread is buttered.
September 10th, 2009 at 2:19 pmpoor ol’ kws,
sooner or later, the meth gets to all of them…
nothing can be done for the poor sob now,
just some spare change as you pass him by outside the liquor store in Henderson, NV….
September 10th, 2009 at 2:27 pmkws, the deficit is not the part that Joe Wilson piped up about. Unless he was on severe tape delay, he was shouting about illegal immigrants and their access to health care.
And that is not a lie.
September 10th, 2009 at 2:31 pmI said lie or B.S. about a dozen times during Obama’s speech. It is hard to remember them all. They were coming fast and furious. But, just keep on repeating the same old lies over and over and after a while people seem to believe the nonsense. The oldest tactic in the book.
The best lie:
Any new health care plan will not add to the national debt. LMAO on that one.
September 10th, 2009 at 2:36 pmThat’s real neat, kws.
How many lies did you catch GWB telling?
September 10th, 2009 at 2:40 pmThis is predictable, and reprehensible.
Barrack Obama was elected President, not Joe Wilson.
There are times for dissent and times to voice opposition, last night was not that time.
Barack Obama earned the right to address the congress, not Joe Wilson.
Wilson’s outburst is an embarrassment.
Those willing to reward him for it, are only making it more likely that the traditions of respect for Presidential address will more likely become raucous partisan shouting matches.
It was right for Wilson to apologize. If he takes any opportunity to profit from his outburst, it will render his apology hollow.
September 10th, 2009 at 2:45 pmkwsventures says:

During the Bush years, the LIES where presented as fact.
Now, the FACTS are miss-represented as lies according to repugnants.
Nice going! Maybe some day you’ll figure out how to get your head out of your A**!
September 10th, 2009 at 3:07 pmkw believes anything that doesn’t agree with the propaganda spewed out of Fox is a lie.
September 10th, 2009 at 3:28 pmSomehow I can’t help but wonder if this “impromptu” outburst wasn’t previously discussed with other repubs and otherwise previously planned.
September 10th, 2009 at 3:28 pmMapleStreet. It’s possible it was either preplanned by Wilson or by a group of Republicans.
The bigger problem comes if Wilson is able to profit from it (appearances on t.v. and radio, contributios, etc)
If he does, it won’t take long for others to figure out that acting like a jerk during these functions can fatten their coffers and fill out their calendar.
If Wilson is truly sorry for his outburst, he should pass on the appearances and contributions that will come from it.
September 10th, 2009 at 3:45 pmThe Reich Wing may be supportive Joe Wilson but when he disgraced himself in the House chamber yesterday evening no one came to his support or cheered him on. He’s typical of those who have been elected yet are not able to bend or compromise or respect others positions. He is not child-like but more like a senseless amoeba awash in a system that he can’t control and doesn’t understand. He has been of great benefit to the effort to change health care as we know it.
Thanks Joe and keep up the good work of advancing the Democratic agenda. You should have lunch with Jeanne Schmidt, soon.

September 10th, 2009 at 4:11 pmJoe Wilson will become another “Fox News Contributor”.
This is good, they will all be in on place when they need to be rounded up and sent to internment campus.
September 10th, 2009 at 4:33 pmWhy is it that whenever conservatives pull out this chestnut, they never cite a specific example?
I’ll wager that it’s because when the facts are checked, it is crystal clear that the president is being honest and forthright (like he was in his address on the point that Wilson accused him of lying about).
Conservatives: a general rule of argument and debate is that your point has ZERO EFFECT if you can not back it up with evidence and examples. Otherwise, you’re just generating pointless noise and hot air. If you don’t have proof to back up your statements, DON’T MAKE THEM.
September 10th, 2009 at 6:35 pmWell, Miller is approaching $500,000 since this morning! Way to go Mo Wilson for your comment because you’ve helped this Democrat very well financially!
September 10th, 2009 at 6:38 pmActually, Rob Miller has surpassed $500,000! Wow. Impressive liberal grassroots!

Apparently you weren’t paying attention then. Obama didn’t say that. What he said was that the program would pay for itself – IIRC after about 10 years.
September 10th, 2009 at 7:56 pmheehee…
joe wilson’s official congressional site is either overloaded or taken down.
September 10th, 2009 at 11:14 pmI see that they’re selling “I’m With Joe” t-shirts as a fund raiser, but don’t despair if you can’t get one. Your old “I’m With Stupid” t-shirt is an indistinguishable substitute.
September 11th, 2009 at 3:22 amTotally classless, but what do you expect from the party that brought you the healthcare town hall “demonstrations” and the media smear campaigns? And the sad thing is, this was all over conservative talk radio yesterday (way to go, rush!!) and Rush was actually praising callers who had disrupted other people watching the speech and called them heroes for “standing up for what they believed in”.
