Flashback: Beck said he was against capitalizing on a ‘historical terrorist attack.’

beckTomorrow, Glenn Beck’s 912 Project will be holding a march in Washington, DC to showcase right-wing anger against President Obama, health care reform, “corruption,” and “an overall conversion to a socialist style government.” Beck’s pet project is clearly an attempt to capitalize on the memory of 9/11, coming just one day after the anniversary of the attacks. However, in the past, Beck has criticized the supporters of the Ron Paul “Revolution” who did a fundraiser on Guy Fawkes Day:

It’s really not the way I would go, tying my movement in with a historical terrorist attack, especially in post-9/11 America.

Beck, however, has also said that he “hates” the families of the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Although Beck conceived of the 912 Project, most of the day-to-day organizing has been orchestrated by a familiar set of lobbyists and Republican operatives who helped plan anti-Obama “grassroots” tea party events since February.

  2. misscoleopteramolly says:

You’re really going to hold Beck to something he said almost two years ago when the Republicans operate on the axiom that everybody’s attention span is only five minutes long?

Besides, Beck didn’t know at the time he said this that Barack Obama would actually WIN the election, causing him (plus most other wingnuts and all of Fox News) to have to backpedal like crazy.

Think for a moment about the fact that someone with an hour of air time each day on what claims to be a news network found on virtually every cable package in this country is using the anniversary of a terrorist attack to protest as illegitimate the programs and policies of a democratically elected president. You can’t reason with that kind of lunacy.

It was actually an ANTI-abortion activist (with Operation Rescue) who was shot and killed. The police have a suspect in custody.

I anticipate that Beck, Hannity, O’Reilly, Limbaugh, and all the other right wing talking heads will condemn liberals for their violence against peaceful protesters. Even though we do not yet know the motive for the murder.

  15. Zooey says:

    Alejandro,

Is this where we use the wingnut tactic of saying one of their own killed that anti-abortion protester (who was in front of a high school for what reason?) to make it look like the pro-choice people did it?

What is Beck? A greedy narcissist. It’s not surprising at all that he would want astroturfers involved with his little 912 project thing. We know his crying is fake, and his stances are manufactured to strike at the most fearful part of the human psyche. This gets him viewers, and that’s all he cares about.

As I mentioned in a comment on another site, Beck would sell out his own children if it meant a few thousand extra viewers.

Good point. The president may not be doing everything to our progressive liking, but he is doing a tremendous job as president, managing sharp political divisions and finding time to meaningfully cover just about every issue in the book. The president is a one-day-at-a-time guy, undertaking the slow and painstaking job of achieving agenda items. On defense, we feel safer and more secure despite deep scars of Bush’s pentagon neocon bureaucracy, an establishment that still threatens to unilaterally disarm our military through mercenaries, mucked-up weapons systems and unaccountable funds.

When Obama leaves office, the Office of the President will be the most daring white-collar job in the world.

    _____________________________________________________________

Very true. And I made that comment with a great deal of snark.

The double standard here (according to the wingnuts) is that anything a Democrat says or does stays with him/her for life, but anything a Republican does or says has an extremely short shelf life.

This is why running up the national debt for the Bushco wars was OK, why it’s even OK for Bush’s bank bailout, but when Obama wants to stimulate the economy to get it going again, it’s “creating a burden for our grandchildren.”

This is why reconciliation is an acceptable way to get legislation passed when the Republicans are the majority, but totally unacceptable when the Democrats are in charge.

This is why it’s OK for Dubya to have about 40 “czars” in his administration, but Obama isn’t allowed to have any.

This is why it’s OK for Bushco to bomb Iraq and Afghanistan, but if Obama wants to take out known terrorist camps in Pakistan, he’s “attacking a sovereign nation”.

The list goes on and on. But the basic upshot is that the conservatives genuinely believe that any position they had more than five minutes ago doesn’t count.

Question: if they care about 9/11 and homeland security so much, why aren’t the right wingers pushing for a troop surge in Afghanistan? That was the country that bred the organization that perpretrated 9/11, after all. It seems that the GOP is weak on terror.

Also, it seems to be increasingly unclear what these demonstrations are supposed to be about, exactly. I mean, at first it was less spending. But then gun nuts started showing up, people showed up with all kinds of irrelevant signage, they started crying about secret takeovers and Hitler, so at this point all I can tell from these things is that the wingnuts are all completely freaked out and none of them have the slightest idea as to why.

I’ll be interested to see how few people show up to this thing this time. Based on their track record, it will be very surprising if they can get more than a couple hundred tops.

Please direct OT discussion items to the Thinkfast! link posted daily.

Your first link also provided this information:

At approximately 7:20 a.m., Jim Pouillon, a prolife activiest, was shot and killed at Owosso High School. The shooter then drove to Fuoss Gravel where, around 8:17 a.m., President Mike Fuoss was also shot and killed.

Police believe Fuoss and Pouillon knew each other, and probably were acquainted with the shooter.

While tragic, this event doesn’t seem to be politically relevant at this time. It’s far from established that his shooting had anything to do with the victim’s political activities.

Glenn Beck terrorizes on the fronts of pro-religion, pro-McCarthy, anti-free speech and slice and dicing the history books so George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are remembered for their “valiant struggles” against the total darkness of evil and against minorities, at home and abroad.

What’s important to Glenn is the feeling of impotent rage in many people (who get their thrills from indulging in impotent rage) that the event evoked and evokes, and the awesome way he can twist that into something that gets him money.

  80. Virtual Pebble says:

@ 13, Alejandro said, and Trollspotter and Bit went on to say, various things about the anti-abortion person whacked in Michigan today.

Last I heard, the anti-abortion protester was killed as a side issue; the guy that killed him was disgusted by the photoposters the protester used at protests. Think of it as killing for art or aesthetics (micro-snark).

The killer was just whacking people he was pissed at, and was on his way to a third when apprehended.

Several people are correct in calling you out on this, bit. Killing is killing, and Dr. Tiller’s killing was murder, unless you happen to be one of those people who think the end justifies the means. If that’s the case, you’re solidly in the company of such renowned folks as Mao Tse Tung, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Vladimir Lenin, Francisco Franco, Benito Mussolini, and other dictators to numerous to mention. Regardless of the differing socio-politcal models those guys were pushing, they all had that common element of thinking that the end justifies the means and the other commone element of all being murderers in service of their various ends. Truly excellent company for a Christianist to be in.
