Radical, Racist Signs Featured At 9/12 March

This morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) embraced the protesters at today’s 9/12 March in Washington, DC, saying that he was “glad they’re here to take back their country.” He characterized the attendees as nonpartisan, adding that “it’s not about President Obama. It’s not about the Democrats.” Several other Republican lawmakers, including Reps. Tom Price (GA), Mike Pence (IN), Marsha Blackburn (T), and Phil Gingrey (GA) planned to attend and speak at the event.

Members of ThinkProgress attended today’s march and the signs carried by these protesters were hardly nonpartisan — and were often racist, radical portrayals of Obama, despite DeMint’s claim. Some examples of what we saw:

In an interview with the Washington Independent, DeMint claimed that the attendees at the march were “a cross-section of the population.” When it was pointed out to him that almost everyone there was white, DeMint simply said, “It’s probably just the time and organization and the media that promoted it.”

Mark McKinnon, a former adviser to Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) presidential campaign, has warned conservatives from embracing events like the 9/12 March. “It’s bad for Republicans because in the absence of any real leadership, the freaks fill the void and define the party,” McKinnon said.

Update More signs from the event here, including ones that say, "Thank 'God' 4 Fox" and "Ayn Rand was right." Other signs showed Obama as a "Democratic Socialism" and called him a "bloodsucking...alien." More offensive signs here and here and here.
Update At today's march, DeMint repeated his Waterloo remarks, announcing to the crowd, "Ladies and Gentlemen: Welcome to Waterloo!" He claimed that the health care debate is "a critical battle for the heart and soul of America, and for freedom itself. Freedom fighters are outnumbered in congress, but not in America. If you continue to stand up and speak out, we will save freedom in America."
Update Birthers also showed up today:

Update We saw another protester wearing a t-shirt calling himself a "freedom rider." The real freedom riders were civil rights activists who rode buses into the segregated South in the 1960s:

Update DeMint told Fox News that today's attendees were "informed" and "outraged." "I've never been so proud to be an American," he said.

I don’t understand the Ayn Rand sneaking in. In the early 60s When I was a kid in an independent Baptist Church (the Southern Baptists were too liberal), Ayn Rand was on a par with Satan and corrupting the good ole USA.

DeMint (and gang) are afraid of losing “their” country. They are hidding behind these idiots. For them not to distance themselves indicates that they agree. If the white protestors think that Blacks (or any other race) are reverting back to the times of “old,” they have another thought comming – no matter how loudly they scream.

So many of the “protesters” are aging fat white guys.

These men will have problems with diabetes and will have heart problems, if they don’t already.

After the first whiff of medical disaster, many of their insurers will drop them.

Many of those protesters don’t seem to have much material wealth or education.

What will they do in the event of catastrophic illness?

I hope that for their sake a Public Option will be around so even those morons can receive help.

    maple,

the rad right loves rand. but they

overlook this part of her philosophy:

    Abortion

“An embryo has no rights. Rights do not pertain to a potential, only to an actual being. A child cannot acquire any rights until it is born. The living take precedence over the not-yet-living (or the unborn).

Abortion is a moral right—which should be left to the sole discretion of the woman involved; morally, nothing other than her wish in the matter is to be considered. Who can conceivably have the right to dictate to her what disposition she is to make of the functions of her own body?”

Maple Street brings up a fascinating point concerning the seemingly intractable differences between Ayn Rand’s philosophy and evangelical fundamentalism.

Those folks are not true libertarians.

They would avidly support an evangelical Sharia at the drop of a hat.

They just don’t want to pay any taxes, but they would gladly use a massive, all-intrusive government to enforce their “morality” agenda.

They throw the name of Jesus around with abandon, but quite honestly they have nailed John Galt (Atlas Shrugged) to the cross, and have transformed their notion of Jesus into an angry libertarian.

From the photos I have seen of that crowd today, I seriously doubt that very many of them have ever even read Ayn Rand, let alone ever having studied Objectivism.

    It gets crazier and crazier.

@36 EmmTee – Thanks for the thumbs up on homeschoolers. I schooled my grandson for all of his years because we settled in KY and I saw how dismal education here was and is – compared to the schooling our daughters received in DOD (Dept. of Defense) schools and we wanted better for him. We developed our own curriculum and supplemented it with materials and programs from on-line. We believe in God and try to be good people but we don’t go to any church regularly. Our grandson was in a wide variety of activities like scouts, bowling league, martial arts, guitar lessons, etc. and had a wide variety of other kids his age to socialize with. He did well in school, graduating with a 3.8 gpa, continues to take college courses and works full time, has a wide circle of friends and activities, and turned out AOK – not like some of them that are socially-deprived and indoctrinated with a surfeit of religion.

    – - On every major measurement, the Census Bureau report shows that the country lost ground during Bush’s two terms. While Bush was in office, the median household income declined, poverty increased, childhood poverty increased even more, and the number of Americans without health insurance spiked. By contrast, the country’s condition improved on each of those measures during Bill Clinton’s two terms, often substantially.

Not once. He only said that they were underage during the voiceovers. Not once is he on film telling them that the girls were underage. Prostitutes? Yes. Underage? Absolutely false.

    - – From Andrew Sullivan. Very much worth reading:

Congrats to the tea-partiers for the impressive crowds in DC today. One wonders where these people were when Bush was massively increasing debt, spending like LBJ, detaining citizens without charges and torturing them, and nation-building in Iraq and Afghanistan? I guess limited government is an elastic notion. But any serious grass-roots movement against constantly expanding government is fine by me. But then you see the images and pictures and hysterical rhetoric … and you see that this extremism and demonization of the president is as damaging to their cause as ANSWER was to the anti-war movement.

Here’s a test: when you see as many posters lambasting Bush and Cheney and the GOP for getting us into this crisis in the first place, I will take these people seriously as genuine small government non-partisan conservatives and independents. In so far as they can pressure the Congress and president into taking the debt seriously in the future, good for them. In so far as they are proposing no practical solutions, and echo truly disturbing hatred of a president barely eight months in office, facing huge crises on all fronts, they are doing their own cause far more harm than good.

The fact remains that the U.S. is at #37 in overall quality of health care, and the #1 nation does it for 40% less than what it costs us per person. Your claims that not adopting a system which is similar to the many, many industrialized nations who have an actual health care system because

China doesn’t have a good health care system at all (#144), so I don’t see how it’s very relevant. But as Rich H. points out, the mere fact that they cover people nationally means that “not being rich” isn’t a terminal condition there, as it too often is here.

  193. Trollspotter says:

    Dear Conservatives,

You may not all be racist yourselves, but you clearly haven’t done enough to stop crazy white racists in your midst. Ever since the Southern Strategy, you’ve been courting racists because you need the votes. This is why the vast majority of non-whites won’t vote for right-wing candidates now.

It’s a losing game for you because with every passing year the country gets a little more racially diverse and the racists in your party get a little louder and crankier. This is one of the many reasons why you’re well on your way to becoming a Southern regional party with no ability to shape the future of this great nation.

    Good luck with that.

    Signed,

    America

I am giving you an up vote for being clever enough to derail this thread with the ridiculous prenatal care for seniors strawman argument.

This is what happens when you accept any argumentative premise from a wingnut as true for the purposes of any discussion. Don’t believe anything they say, no matter how apparently innocuous it may seem at the time. If a wingnut mentions in passing that they’re left handed, it’s a lie. It doesn’t matter whether or not what they mentioned seems relevant to the discussion at hand. It doesn’t matter whether it would be unsurprising if that was true. Call them on it before they use it to construct a bigger lie.

I can’t find any evidence that medicare covers prenatal care. Unless Tundra cares to provide a credible citation, I am going to firmly believe that it does not. Not that it even matters, but never give a wingnut an inch.

You are requiring me to purchase. Regardless if I would or not.

We’ve already established that you couldn’t afford a large medical bill. So you also want to deny us the opportunity to offer you preventive care that could make it cheaper on the rest of us, or to finance your coverage through an open system rather than piling unpaid emergency bills onto other peoples’ bills off-book, which is more expensive.

Just like the requirement for automotive collision insurance, there are some (rare but catastrophic) circumstances under which others would have to pay for what you seem to view as only “your problem.” That makes it everybody’s problem.

Face it, you’re just another wingnut freeloader trying to leech off of my taxes while also trying to deny me the option of structuring your leeching so it’ll be more efficient and cost me less.

It is my contention that Rush, Beck, O’Reily, Hannity and their brothers nationwide (I could have used world wide but these folks don’t recognize that the rest of the world actually exists) have communicated repeatedly and are on a mission to destroy not only Obama and his administration – this is PURE racism, but are also take the US BACK 100 years to another time in our nations existence when white people ruled the roost but we as a nation were coming into our own and could beat up any one we pleased… That’s is EXACTLY what chimpy bush and his gangs of thugs represented to these folks.

Sure, at least some of it. Go ahead and list me FOX shows, E! Entertainment, Stewart, Colbert, Olbermann, Maddow and that Ed guy.

My point still stands that it wouldn’t prove whether anyone was right or wrong about anything, only how entertaining the shows were based on how many people they draw. Fox doesn’t do news.

Also, this whole tangent is completely irrelevant to any matter of political fact.

They have joined a religious/political cult of sorts. Therefore, they will probably have to be deprogrammed just like the victims of other well known cults. How many of the victims of Jim Jones and David Koresh could have been saved had they been deprogrammed?

America will probably experience a “civil war” where they will attack Americans across the entire nation, all at once. They operating much like the Taliban, in that they are formed up into sleeper cells. They are currently arming themselves and preparing for the “go” command. They ply fear through their propaganda, and with their violent terrorism.

Once they receive the order to go, a lot of American blood will spill. Some of them are currently having difficulty remaining in the preparation mode, and have already spilt American blood.

There is only the hope that we can round them up before the killing begins and put them in some nice education camps. Unfortunately, it can be very difficult to deprogram cultists. They are taught to be close minded, because if they allow themselves to think, they will start to question their dogma.

Can’t agree on education camps and razor wire. Don’t know what that’s about.

I suspect the groups in the “preparation mode” you talk about are heavily infiltrated by federal agents. That should count for something.

    http://www.journalism.org/node/780

In the battle between Fox and CNN for cable television news supremacy, one point of contention is time versus people. Television ratings measure sets at any given moment, but they cannot tell whether the people watching one program during the day are the same as those watching another later on. On television, Fox cable news is currently winning the ratings war. But CNN argues its overall television audience through the day is larger than Fox’s, because more distinct individuals (the television equivalent of unique visitors) sample CNN, while Fox has a smaller loyal audience that watches more hours of the day. (See Cable)

The Web, with its more detailed audience numbers, sheds light on the debate. Online, Fox’s audience is smaller but apparently sticks around longer. CNN’s is bigger but apparently sticks around a little less.

Indeed, FoxNews.com commands the highest time spent per average visitor, just over 36 minutes for the first 11 months of 2003. In April 2003, during the war, FoxNews.com averaged more than 51 minutes per unique visitor, more than 15 minutes higher than any of the other top 20 sites and a full half-hour more than the average.25

CNN.com averages slightly less time per user (29.7 minutes). That ties it for third place with AOL in most time spent. But, when it comes to the number of visitors, the relationship flips. CNN.com has four times more visitors than FoxNews.com. Fox failed to crack the top 10 most visited Web sites in 2003 and has hovered around the 15th spot on the list.26

Does anyone here think this ideaology would be better for us than what we have? Um, I realize that so many college professors laud the advantages of “Progressivism” but they conveniently omit the disadvantages: Loss of freedom of speech, the press, expression and religion(although some of you here would applaud the absence of the latter). Also it forbids the ownership of property, and anyone who makes more income than their neighbor will find that income “redistributed” arbitrarily. If you think this ideology is better than Capitalism, watch the movie “Dr. Zhivago”. You won’t think so anymore.

By the way, an annoyed American Communist Party spokesperson stated that the Democratic Party had stolen so many of their party platforms that they were going to have to come up with some new ones! How revealing.

Dancer1977, you got it!! Both parties use fear and intimidation, often through race to achieve their desired results. YOu have idiots in this demonstration that were holding confederate flags or what have you, and you show the picture of the small percentage of racist morons that were there and you get your “its all angry racist white men” response. Just like if the right showed clips of the LA riots, youd get a response that all black and latinos are violent. Face it, there are idiots of all races, political affiliations, economic backgrounds and religions. We have right wing fear mongering on FOX and left wing propaganda on MSNBC. It never ends…

As someone who wants government to work for me and stay out of my moral and financial life while regulating the markets and enforcing reasonable laws (neither party seems willing to do that), I am saddened by both parties. I agree with some of these demonstrators in that the government is running out of control. I disagree with them that its Obama’s doing. There is ONE thing that both parties are interested in… monopolizing the power, neither one of the parties give a crap about you or me beyond the one vote we each represent (ok, 3 or 4 votes in Chicago and Las Vegas nowadays!).

The bigger the Federal Government gets, the bigger that crowd is going to get. The more aggressive the Federal Government gets the more aggressive they will get.
It is becoming plainly obvious that this country will be headed towards civil unrest if more failing Government programs are added, more laws restricting freedom are passed and more debt is incurred.

Bush is gonna be remembered in history as one of the most freedom-robbing presidents in our generation, as well as an over-zealous war monger.
Here’s what I really want. Bring me a real hero to the presidency that promotes tolerance of differences and bring back respect of the individual. Don’t “force” into law, what SOME people want. Offer something that EVERYONE wants. Some people would rather have government involved in every aspect of their lives. But, for those of us that want a more free-market approach, allow us to have that as well.

  444. KinBee says:

Freedom is not a racist issue, downriver. Government responsibility is not a racist issue, downriver. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is not a racist issue, downriver. I challenge you to explain where you come to the conclusion.

  445. KinBee says:

The whole point of the march had ZERO to do with race. Thank goodness more and more of our society can overlook color as a reason to judge people. I am certainly more apt to judge people by what comes out of their mouth than youth, beauty, gender, race, or appearance. Afterall, the true person is the one behind the eyes.
Do you not see that the government is spending money that is printed out of thin air? Did, we, the people, give them that permission? Do you realize we, the people, will have to pay that back? And you’re ok with that? Do you know that the actual debt of this country, including federal expenditures is over $56 TRILLION dollars? I don’t know about you, but since I am making my money, can I decide what I spend it on without them stuffing me into impossible debt?

  446. Zooey says:

    KinBee,

Take a look at the pictures above and the video on the thread above this.

What’s the purpose of the Confederate flag, if that woman is protesting for freedom and against spending?

What’s the purpose of the sign that says “Long Legged Mack Daddy,” if those people are protesting for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?

And finally, where were these people in the Bush years? Why no signs proclaiming Bush was a dry drunk over-spending war-mongering elitist?

Clearly you don’t understand racism when it stares you in the face. Maybe because you think exactly like those idiots, and can’t acknowledge your innate racism. I think you should take a little time to think over your racist leanings. You can only change a thing once you acknowledge it.

  447. tombaker says:

KinBee – if you supported the unnecessary, 3 trillion dollar invasion and occupation of Iraq, you have absolutely no standing to comment on, let alone protest against, sending some people to the Doctor who can’t go now.

Your morality is evidently as skewed as that of a cold-blooded killer, and no decent person should heed a word you say.

  449. KinBee says:

Do I support war? No. Do I actually understand why racism is such an issue with you guys? No. Do I actually think that either of you research beyond the mainstream media? No. Both opf you have this thirsty desire to discredit anyone that just don’t accept your take on issues. Personally, that’s one thing I applaud about individuality, is that we can never really be the same.
Out of a crowd of over two million people, the photographer centered in on some of the “racist” individuals to stir up dissent for the actual cause. Are you actually gonna believe that I would make my way through that size of a crowd, seek out the blatant racism, and go pat them on the back for their opinions? Get a life. I have several friends of all creeds and nationalities. You people need to get out more and realize that just because a picture insults you that it is reflective of the national average. I don’t care what race you. I wish noone cared what race you were. However, if I heard your slanderous spouts of prejudice at a party, I certainly wouldn’t go introduce myself… I like people that are already over it.

  450. tombaker says:

912′ers are poorly informed and massively manipulated.

  451. downriver says:

Kinbee, all it takes is a few minutes looking at the faces in the crowd and their blatant racist signs. An example or two:

  452. tombaker says:

Perhaps you like having the Government hand out every thing to you for free at the cost of the entire tax payers earnings, but guess what, I do not want to support you or your family, you need to do that for yourself or stop having children that you cannot be responsible for

I have a family I take care of myself. I get, and have gotten, nothing other than the privilege of living in a developed country from my government.

And I disagree with you 10,000%.

Insult, insinuation, and rank prejudice is all you exhibit.

I’m ok with that, though, because I live in a Democracy, and you are part of a tiny minority of our electorate.

  453. Zooey says:

    “American”Dan,

I can’t believe you just used the “I know you are, but what am I” defense.

    Hilarious.

You and KinBee need to go out and get some real world experience, and then someone might take you seriously.

    Thanks for playing.

  454. KinBee says:

This place has some very weak debaters. Clearly, regardless of what AmericanDan and I say, we must be grand wizards of the KKK, rather than offering a discussion of some substance. Both of you are totally disregarding what we are saying. I feel for you both. But the good news is, you have to tolerate yourselves, I don’t.
    Ta ta.

  455. Zooey says:

That’s funny, KinBee, because you are totally disregarding the evidence glaring in your face.

I notice that you didn’t answer a single question I posed to you. I guess you just don’t have those answers, do you?

  456. downriver says:

Kinbee, I found your argument ludicrous for the fact that these people ignored fiscal responsibility for the past 10 years but now that a black man sits in the oval office 60,000 WHITES descend on Washington demanding accountability.

This is nothing but corporate sponsored racism and it is a SAD DAY for our country. The images from yesterday’s little party tell the story graphically.

  457. Zooey says:

    downriver,

All I can say is “there are none so blind as they who will not see.”

  458. Stock Biltson says:

I can see that it really upsets you foul mouthed commies when over 2 million America loving patriots come together in one spot like DC.

Democrats were the party of the KKK
A Republican president freed the slaves.
Abortion was started by a communist to limit the number of blacks born.
A majority of republicans voted for the civil rights act
and a majority of democrats voted against it.
A government that does everything for you, will do anything to you.

This is your lesson for today, you can go back to your drugs now little kids.

God bless America and Glen Beck

  459. Zooey says:

    Ah, it’s 2 million now.

    You teabaggers are hilarious.

  460. KinBee says:

But you ignorant racists have the best view, huh? Got to find avenues for insult? Go for it… it’s a free country.
Yes, I did answer your questions, racist.
And, by all means, prove it’s corporate sponsored racism…
I DON’T CARE WHAT COLOR PEOPLE ARE .. Can’t you get that through your uneducated head!!?
Personally, Herman Cain would make a better president… research him….. he’s BLACK!!

  461. Stock Biltson says:

    Zooey says:

    Ah, it’s 2 million now.

    You teabaggers are hilarious.
    ——————————————————

Over 2 million..I am glad you are laughing.

  462. KinBee says:

Yeah…over 2 million… but you people at this rag wouldn’t care about anything called proven facts… you feel much better relying on fabricated assumptions just so your immature attitudes don’t get bruised

  463. tombaker says:

Dream on, little wingnuts, dream on…

  464. KinBee says:

Actually, I did serve in the USAF and was called a wingnut… how about you, tombaker? DO any time serving your country? Nah… you’d have a much different attitude about “whities”

  465. tombaker says:

If it were truly 20 million, it would still amount to no more than a reactionary fringe movement.

But it was 60-70,000 instead. There are bigger Star Trek Fan Club events.

  466. KinBee says:

2 million…. not 20 million. and if you know how to use a Google search engine, and know who held the event, you can find the truth out for yourself… but, as I said, factual details aren’t that important to you, just insulting your fellow man, which seems to be much more entertaining for you… too bad.

  467. tombaker says:

Tossing tantrum in here all day does nothing to improve the R’s image or influence, Kin.

All that was accomplished in DC yesterday was the further repulsion of Independent voters, who do not want to be associated, personally or politically, with a bunch of foaming-at-the-mouth reactionary fringers.

  468. downriver says:

FreedomWorks freely admits it is corporate sponsored, and if there were two million racists at the fruitloop Messiah’s little whites only party it is time to lock and load. But of course 60,000 is a high estimate. Some sources are reporting 10,000.

If you really want to map connections there is a good website: http://www.muckety.com/

  469. tombaker says:

you don’t seem to have a problem insulting my intelligence with your outright lies, Kin.

60-70,000 – as reported by the agencies that know best, and who tally these kinds of events all the time.

if you were paying any attention to what i said, you’d have realized that i was saying

“even if the event was 10 times bigger than your lie about it, it would nonetheless be inconsequential”

you’re boring me now – i’ve got a football game to watch with my family.

    bye.

  470. KinBee says:

Dude, you and your buddies consistently slapped me with unfounded name-calling , and everyone else if you scroll back, since I arrived… all because we are not die hard liberals. And I’m a Libertarian, a party that welcomes all other parties. You love tossing unfounded opinions out without proving a damn thing… you have nothing to back up your tunnel-visioned perspective.

  471. KinBee says:

I hope your team wins, racist… have a great evening.
I won’t be back to this liberal rag ever again. I like debate.

  472. Jane E. Schneider says:

    AmericanDan says:
What happened to the US Constitution?

    Bush shredded it.

  473. Jane E. Schneider says:

“I won’t be back to this liberal rag ever again. I like debate.”

In other words, “You slapped me down on my lies, so I’m taking them somewhere less gullible.”

  474. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    KinBee says:

Actually, I did serve in the USAF and was called a wingnut… how about you, tombaker? DO any time serving your country? Nah… you’d have a much different attitude about “whities”

What the hell are you talking about? I served in the USAF and I really have no clue what you’re talking about.

Or did you already leave as you promised to do?

  475. Zooey says:

    KinBee says:
    September 13th, 2009 at 4:14 pm

    Heh. Touched a nerve, didn’t I?

    That’s a win for me.

    Sucker.

  476. Zooey says:

    KinBee says:

I won’t be back to this liberal rag ever again. I like debate.
    September 13th, 2009 at 4:36 pm

Well, we were waiting for you to start debating…

  477. i aint you says:

it is funny that this thread is about racism,,— i hear more rasist remarks from you libs as i read the posts, then any one else, i got the feeling that it is ok to be racist if you a libbie progesser.

  478. linda2 says:

“Marry the Church to a three-ring circus? To barkers who say they’re messengers of God? Who reduce frightened farmers to howling dogs? All very entertaining, I’m sure”…quote from Elmer Gantry, see the movie you get to see the truth about the crazy people being stirred up.

  479. tombaker says:

495 – you know what i think is funny?

Jim DeMint saying he hasn’t been proud to be an American in the past.

What kind of attitude is that?

  480. tombaker says:

    It’s never ok to be a racist “i ain’t”.

Especially not when you claim it’s really something else.

  481. ElBruce says:

    KinBee says:

Do I actually understand why racism is such an issue with you guys? No.

That pretty much says it all right there.

    .

    KinBee says:

2 million…. not 20 million. and if you know how to use a Google search engine, and know who held the event, you can find the truth out for yourself…

I found out. It was about 20,000.

I love watching wingnuts try to do math.

    .

    i aint you says:

it is funny that this thread is about racism,,— i hear more rasist remarks from you libs as i read the posts, then any one else, i got the feeling that it is ok to be racist if you a libbie progesser.

Pointing out that someone is a racist because they’re saying racist things is not being a racist. It’s the opposite.

I am just agog at the neocon meme that standing up to racism counts as racism. The sheer degree of chutzpah these bigots possess is just breathtaking.

  482. jnowlin says:

Here is a video of the lips are moving sign, its hilarious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5NsRdNre7c

  483. ElBruce says:

    KinBee says:

Here’s what I really want. Bring me a real hero to the presidency that promotes tolerance of differences and bring back respect of the individual.

    We did.

    .

    AmericanDan says:

How can YOU tell anyone about racism, Zooey, or ignorance, or to judge anyone else for that matter?

Well, seeing as how you’re an ignorant racist, it’s pretty easy to spot you, but damn difficult to explain anything to you.

    .

    AmericanDan says:

…but I do see several fingers pointing back at you when you point one single digit extended out towards others.

Clarification: typically although her hand may be extended out, the single digit is usually extended upwards.

    .

    AmericanDan says:

You can find someone RACISTS in any political party, city, town, but do NOT use that as a reason to label everyone else as racists…

You can if that party supports racist policies and promotes the worst of racists among them to leadership positions.

As has long been pointed out, the most pervasive kind of racism isn’t that which exposes itself by wearing hoods and actually wishing harm to minorities. Those are easy to call out and oppose. What’s actually more of a problem are the tacit racists who tolerate and lend quiet support to them. That would be you. That’s what you’re doing right here, in your post.

  484. Stock Biltson says:

ElBruce says:I found out. It was about 20,000.

I love watching wingnuts try to do math.

    ——————————————————
I love to watch you commie wingnuts trying do it too!

20,000…You must have learned math from the NYT.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1213056/Up-million-march-US-Capitol-protest-Obamas-spending-tea-party-demonstration.html

If you think these pictures show only 20,000 then you believe that your messiah Obama, is going to cut taxes.

    Million, Billion, Trillion, Brazillion, you
    don’t know the difference anyway.

  485. tombaker says:

    Hey Stock…

    it still doesn’t matter,

and it was still the largest gathering of dumb people in my lifetime.

You don’t know the difference anyway.

  486. Stock Biltson says:

    tombaker says:

    Hey Stock…

    it still doesn’t matter,

and it was still the largest gathering of dumb people in my lifetime.

    ——————————————————

Guessing from the intelligence of your statement, I would say your lifetime is maybe 14 years so far.

  487. Keith says:

    Stock,

UHHH, that was a tabloid you were quoting. Didn’t you notice all the T&A and the editor’s top picks:

1)Where did Hollywood’s heroines go? Today’s films depict women as desperate, pathetic and frigid (but then, MEN make them)

2)Why men lie twice as often as women (and the 10 most common fibs)

3)The woman with a chronic fear of… kneecaps

4)Pictured: The Queen staying at a Best Western hotel (or is it really her?)

  488. Zooey says:

    Stock Biltson says:
    September 13th, 2009 at 8:26 pm

If it’s British, it’s not the National Enquirer. Is that it, dingleberry?

Face it, we’re laughing at you, not with you.

  489. Keith says:

    Zooey,

Rupert Murdoch made his money with sleazy Aussie and British tabloids. I know—I read them all. :)

  490. ElBruce says:

    Stock Biltson says:

If you think these pictures show only 20,000 then you believe that your messiah Obama, is going to cut taxes.

You don’t know what “up to” means, do you? Picture caption in your link: “Tens of thousands of people converged on Capitol Hill on Saturday to protest against government spending.” Tens of thousands doesn’t even add up to hundreds of thousands, much less any number of millions.

But here, let me find some more links and we’ll try to figure it out…

OK. So where did the Guardian get that “up to 2M” number? Why, from Michelle Malkin of course. But where did she get that number? By rounding up a number she got from a twitterer who said he got it from ABC News. But ABC never said that:

At no time did ABC News, or its affiliates, report a number anywhere near as large. ABCNews.com reported an approximate figure of 60,000 to 70,000 protesters, attributed to the Washington, D.C., fire department.

Here is the original media report on the D.C. fire department’s estimate.

Philip Bump breaks down how this got passed from a twitterer lying about a news item through a wingnut blogger to a news outlet, as well as an illustrative example of the scope of the exaggeration involved.

Think about that: Some right-wing guy twittered that ABC said 1 – 1.5 million attendees instead of 60 – 70 thousand. Michelle Malkin used that twitterer as a source to post that there were 2 million attendees. And now here you are, embarrassing yourself in front of us because of how they lied to you.

How can you stand to let yourself be used like this? Aren’t you angry at the people who put you up to it?

  491. Keith says:

Well, I mean if it’s on a “tweet”, then how could it be wrong? [snark]

BTW, I was at the Nov 1969 anti-war protest at The Mall that truly was about 550,000.

  492. tombaker says:

    Hey Stock,

    Wrong again, buddy.

I’ve been here long enough to witness Nixon’s disgrace, Reagan’s falsehood, Bush I’s impotence, and Bush II’s puppet-show act.

I’ve also been around long enough to have seen many of your type pass by,

but I’ve still never seen any of you be correct about anything.

  493. tombaker says:

oops – i must be gettin’ old – forgot all about Gerald Ford,

then again, so has pretty much everyone else.

  494. Keith says:

Well, I mean if it’s on a “tweet”, then how could it be wrong? [snark]

Or, would that be a “twit”? I don’t know all this new technology.

  495. Atlas says:

    Zooey says:

Yeah? Where were you and these stupid teabaggers in the Bush years?

As far as I can tell, y’all rolled over for Bush/Cheney to scratch your tummies, and all the while spent more money than all the previous presidents put together, and narrowed our freedoms more than ever.

Where were you then? Cuz you know where we were? PROTESTING.

My stupid tea bagger ass was against the Bush administration as well. My stupid tea bagger ass was against the “Patriot” act and didnt want the Bush stimulus package anymore than the Obama stimulus package. My stupid tea bagger ass knows that Obama has spent in 6+ months what Bush did in 8 years(and Bush spending was insane). My stupid tea bagger ass is educated and informed and trust me-Im awake. We need to end the Private Federal Reserve System and get back to a liberty loving republic once again. Dont Blame me-I supported Ron Paul.

  496. johnnypoo63 says:

They all forgot to wear their sheets and bring their burning crosses

  497. tombaker says:

    Atlas says:

sure guy. whatever you say, ’cause you’re a Independent/Libertarian/Conservative, arentcha?

did you forget that Regan proved deficits don’t matter?

good luck with the whole ronpaulism movement thingy, looks like it’s got a lot of potential.

  498. tombaker says:

    neo-larouchism will get you everywhere.

    seriously – ask a larouchie.

hell, for that matter, ask a naderite.

  499. ElBruce says:

    Atlas says:

Dont Blame me-I supported Ron Paul.

Oh yeah, like that would have worked out well.

Let’s count how many successful anarchies there have been in history… done.

  500. Dancer1977 says:

    Hey Tombaker:
You might think I’m illiterate, but last time I looked at the constitution we are a republic, not a democracy. That’s why we say “and to the republic for which it stands”. They probably had already deleted that from your text books by the time you went to school. There is a difference.

    KinBee, Stock and Atlas:
Save your breath – you’re better than this. All you are exposing yourselves to is childish name calling. I find it interesting how they think they know who we are. For all they know I could be one of the ACORN workers that blew the whistle. They only want to exchange their hate mongering amongst themselves. It’s kind of like masturbating.

  501. Atlas says:

I’m Not talking about anarchy-but what this administration has done is expanded Government Control and Spending-as did the last administration. Even as a Liberal-you must concede that we as a nation will see continuous government intervention should the American people not stand up and say “Less Government NOW”. If that makes no sense to you there is no Olive branch left to extend to you-there is only division in this country. I beg of you-please let us sit down and reason with one another. Let us not perpetuate control over the lives of individual citizens. End the FED end Slavery.

  502. ElBruce says:

    Atlas says:

    I’m Not talking about anarchy…

That’s because you haven’t actually thought through the consequences of your own “philosophy.” Always assuming that any government equals maximal government inevitably leads you to no government, aka. anarchy.

The rest of us are pretty much moderates on these sorts of issues – some things should be private, others public, depending on whichever method actually works best. But let me ask you this – at what point would any libertarian say “that’s about the right amount of government, let’s not reduce it any more.” Try to imagine some circumstance under which a libertarian would hold that position. You can’t. That’s because libertarians are anarchists*.

    * Exception – if you say “only have military” then libertarians support military dictatorship regimes instead. If 100% of the remaining government is military, then that’s the result.

    .

    Atlas says:

I beg of you-please let us sit down and reason with one another.

OK, let’s be rational human beings and reach a reasonable compromise based on facts and logic…

    Atlas says:

    End the FED end Slavery.

    …well, that was short lived.

  503. Atlas says:

I think I will save my breath-you either get what I said or you do not believe in the Constitution of the United States of America. Thanks Dancer1977. I am better than this place. I tried reasoning with people and they choose to use broad generalizations and character defamations to further their close minded tyrannical Governmental control support over a purportedly “Free” populace. Never did they try to incorporate Consitutional principles into the debate. Ultimately we all meet the same fate on the path we are on-regardless of political affiliation.

  504. Atlas says:

  505. ElBruce says:

    Dancer1977 says:

You might think I’m illiterate, but last time I looked at the constitution we are a republic, not a democracy

Thanks folks, liberals just won. Good night!

Man, I can’t believe you actually just said that. I will be merciful this time and slip you a clue: the two terms are not mutually exclusive. A republic is one form of democracy.

    .

    Dancer1977 says:

For all they know I could be one of the ACORN workers that blew the whistle.

What whistle? What are you talking about?

    .

    Atlas says:

you either get what I said or you do not believe in the Constitution of the United States of America.

    … or I’ve read it.

    .

    Atlas says:

Never did they try to incorporate Consitutional principles into the debate.

    OK, let’s do that:

    Section 8

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be
    uniform throughout the United States;

    To borrow money on the credit of the United States;

    To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;

    Happy now?

Or how about this: under the U.S. Constitution, what body is empowered to settle disputes regarding the interpretation of the U.S. Constitution? Hint: it’s not crazy rednecks with ridiculous signage.

    .

    Atlas says:

    I just shrugged.

Ayn Rand is just what a stupid person imagines a smart person to be like. Her crap is nothing more than a description of pure moral evil wrapped up to look like a political philosophy.

  506. tombaker says:

    Dancer1977 says:
    Hey Tombaker:
    You might think I’m illiterate

probably not. unless of course you’re having someone read the page to you then dictating your responses, but I’d refrain from presuming that much.

i also don’t recall directing any comment in your direction.

here’s a little civics quiz question for you though:

In the Republic of the United States of America,

what political methodology is used to select leaders and make decisions?

I’ll give you a hint, because you seem to be struggling a little bit with the fundamentals:

it starts with the letter “D”.

Have a terrific Monday, my friend!

  507. barfly says:

I am sure you all have one common ideal, support a president that has a ZERO back ground, support idiot elected officials that want to continue destroying this nation with mindless spending.

Fox News has claimed another victim. America weeps.

  508. ctcadguy says:

It is not the South that is going to rise again – it will be Sherman who rises again.

These folks need to be expoused as the evil they are and rejected by the masses.

  509. ElBruce says:

    AmericanDan says:

I can tell that Zooey is a closet worker for ACORN

Oh crap, they’re on to us – everybody hide!

    .

    AmericanDan says:

…the evidence currently produced within the corruption of ACORN…

Cite some, please? Anything? Anything at all? Is all of this “produced evidence” kept at a password-protected site that only wingnuts can access? Because they keep talking about it, I keep looking for it, and it keeps failing to actually exist.

    .

    AmericanDan says:

YOU are no different than those that would say “no” to abortion yet would use a handgun and kill an abortion doctor, of which that doctor had a right to life…

Except for the little “not being murderers” part. A small but (I think) significant distinction there.

    .

    AmericanDan says:

…that have no clue what this country is all about.

Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, democracy, checks & balances, freedom of speech… but I digress.

    .

    AmericanDan says:

had every single ethnic back ground, blacks, oriental, jewish, white, middle eastern, you name it, they were there,

I’ll admit there might have been some tokens, but I await evidence of your claim.

    .

    AmericanDan says:

…and to STOP allowing corruption and useless “bills”…

Yes, Congress should stop passing all of those scare-quoted “bills!” Man, I can’t get enough of watching you people demonizing even the normal functioning of government. We can’t have the U.S.A. without a government, don’t you realize that? The day you “win” in eliminating government is the day the U.S.A. ceases to be.

    .

    AmericanDan says:

There was NOT a 20,000 crowd of people in the Capital supporting YOUR views….not a crowd of even 1,000 people.

    Jan 20. 2009

    .

    AmericanDan says:

…so much misinformation and sadness in your life…

I’m perfectly happy, educated and informed. Please quit making so many assumptions about people you don’t know – it leads to utter and abject failure in trying to debate with them.

    .

    AmericanDan says:

…when you got done with your toy, was it a girl ZOOEY or a boy ZOOEY that flopped out of you? Play? yeah that is all you are about.

I’m sorry AmericanDan, but could you go into some more detail regarding what you’re talking about here? I don’t quite follow the political scenario and/or economic model that you’re describing in this section. Perhaps a more detailed and in-depth explanation of what you’re proposing at this juncture could convince me to “see the light” and become a fiscal conservative. Thanks in advance.

P.S: Zooey, how do you manage to get their goat so thoroughly? I must know the trick to it.

  510. ElBruce says:

Wait, did AmericanDan just posit that masturbation makes babies?

    O_o

  511. Zooey says:

    “American”Dan says:

Too afraid to even be on video and to make yourself be shown? Oh right, I forgot, you were soooo busy with putting the batteries in that toy of yours to stimulate yourself, you did not care what was going on in the rest of the office at ACORN. So what was it ZOOEY, when you got done with your toy, was it a girl ZOOEY or a boy ZOOEY that flopped out of you? Play? yeah that is all you are about. Play. Get a mop and go back and clean up the mess that oozed out of you while in that closet, will you? Your co workers at ACORN say they don’t like your smell.

    You charmer, you.

I can tell you’ve put a lot of thought into your comment, and I’m sure your local authorities are on a first name basis with you, and roll their eyes when they roll up to your filthy apartment AGAIN.

Let’s do this again sometime. ;)

P.S: Zooey, how do you manage to get their goat so thoroughly? I must know the trick to it.

    It’s a gift. What else can I say? ;)

They always think they’re the first to post ugliness directed at me, and only the least intelligent of them fall for the taunting. Like our friend “American”Dan.

Goats? Are we discussing agricultural industry reform now?

  515. ElBruce says:

Speaking of the turnout again, the teabaggers have been sending around a fake photo to “prove” their claims. One problem:

There’s another big problem with the photograph: it doesn’t include the National Museum of the American Indian, a building located at the corner of Fourth St. and Independence Ave. that opened on Sept. 14, 2004.

    Oops!

Number wonk extraordinaire Nate Silver also tackles the headcount.

  519. westaugust says:

We need to get this Democrat vs. Republican thing out of our minds, it’s getting old!!

I know most of you all don’t agree with Glenn Beck, but he is the only one on television who holds both parties to task. I’ll bet many of you didn’t realize Beck called for George W. Bush to be impeached.

Don’t continue to follow a corrupt bunch because they have the letter “D” followed by the letters “emocrat”. The majority of the 9/12 marchers have thrown away the Republican party, and believe it or not, there were Democrats there doing the same thing.

When I see people on the board who marched against corruption, now following so willingly a corrupt administration- I see a group that is standing on a broken structure- a structure that will collapse.

A drop of bacteria infused water can ruin a bucket of water. Sometimes you need to dump out all the water and start over.

And by the way, these posters are friendly compared to some of the anti-Bush rallies a few years back. Some of the above posters actually speak to some truth, but the truth isn’t always popular as we’ve witnessed recently.

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

  520. downriver says:

American Dan you are a vile poster, a coward behind a keyboard. You and your kind are responsible for the mass migration of Independent voters to the Democratic Party and until such time as leadership emerges in the opposition that puts a lid on your type of obscene, peculiar “patriotism” you are destined to be marginalized to the fringe, where you obviously belong.

    UnamericanDan says:

I can only respond to your list of facts with grade school insults and unfocused anger!

    Yeah, good luck with that.

On a side note, it’s interesting how closely the photos from 9/12 resemble this photo of conservatives protesting from years gone by.

What a fascinating look at the conservative psyche. LOL!

  525. costeven says:

You know what I am sick of this liberal bull shit being spewed from the mouths of the masses, its not un-American it is American, we all have the right to protest, yet for thinking Obama is bad we are somehow radicals? I did not care when you protested against Bush you know why because it is American, so quit labeling us a Radical nut jobs!

  526. kungfoochimp says:

The sick leftist heart. It hates with all its might that which it cant control, corrupt or silence. Soon the patriot will turn the light of liberty back on. Not EPA-approved, mercury-laiden, compact fluorescents, but pure light. You cockroaches will scatter back into the shadows…into your filthy nests. Pray, if there is one cell inside you that believes in a higher power, that the light is peaceful. If not, you may wish you had chosen a different path.

  527. Trollspotter says:

    kungfoochimp says:

The sick leftist heart. It hates with all its might

Says the right-winger who hates his political opponents so much he dehumanizes them as “cockroaches” and warns them to “pray” that his fellow far right nutjobs will choose to be “peaceful.”

Nice job making terrorist threats against your fellow citizens. I’m sure Hannity thinks you’re a great American.
