Sign at 9/12 march: ‘Bury Obamacare with Kennedy.’

Thousands of right-wing protesters are in DC for the 9/12 Project march today, inspired by Glenn Beck and organized by Republican lobbyists. One rally attendee caught a particularly tasteless sign being distributed to protesters:

buryobamacare

Today on ABC’s Good Morning America, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) tried to portray the protesters as a bipartisan group of moderates, saying that “it’s not about President Obama. It’s not about the Democrats. … I’m glad they’re here to take back their country.” DeMint, of course, has made it all “about President Obama,” saying that the health care debate will be Obama’s “Waterloo” because it will “break him.”

Update TP reader JD sent in another photo of an Obamacare/Kennedy sign:

The republicans have successfully riled these ignoramuses up to the point where they’d be willing to condemn their own kids if they opposed their positions. This just shows how destructive and despicable they are. Their supporters have no idea that they are being used as tools for profit.

  16. Marie says:

When hundreds of thousands marched in opposition to the war in Iraq, the media barely covered it, they dismissed marchers as sore losers of the election, and didn’t accurately report the number of marchers.

Will these extremists who want to see American destroyed for all except the very wealthy – all because they hate having a black man as president – will they get coverage? Will their numbers be exaggerated? Will their slogans get repeated ad nauseum? Will they be given legitimacy?

Glenn Beck is interviewing a fake liberal at the moment! *shaking head* HIS VIEWERS WILL BELIEVE, THOUGH, THAT ON THE MORNING OF 9/11 SHE WAS A LIBERAL AND AFTER THE ATTACK WAS OVER, SHE ASKED, “How did this [the attack] happen?”, and her husband/boyfriend said, “BECAUSE OF YOU AND YOUR LIBERAL FRIENDS!”. LOL Oh yeah right! Like a real liberal would have responded like this woman just did, “You’re right!” and then become a fascist jackboot licking Brownshirt!

  38. Tawdry says:

I felt nauseous, swallowed hard and went to DeMint’s web site. First, it says ‘We the People.’ Which they aren’t, just a minority of the people, seemingly forgetting the last election. Then there’s this:

“If the government can seize freedom in health care using obscure tricks in the middle of the dead night, how can Americans have confidence that our other freedoms are safe?”

This from CBS 60 Minutes concerning the 3 a.m. voting in the House for Medicare prescription drug coverage:

According to Rep. congressman Dan Burton, “A lot of shenanigans that were going on that night, they didn’t want on national television in primetime. I’ve been in politics for 22 years and it was the ugliest night I have ever seen in 22 years.”

He and Rep Walter Jones go on to talk about arm twisting, a female Rep crying. And then there was the congressman who told another congressman if he didn’t vote for the bill, that congressman’s son would be ‘dog meat’ if he ran for office.

Are these Republicans so stupid or so full of themselves they don’t know or care that their history will be found out? Boggles the mind.

So it’s a classic cutting off the nose to spite the face.

  45. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Or will you just follow along like the rest of the robots on the left?

Wow, talk about a delusional mind. Considering that the conservative opposition to health care reform in this current debate is not based on one single accurate fact, I would say it’s the righties that “follow along”, since there is no rationale for their views.

The Republicans have not been debating this honestly. They have been lying and making stuff up and then saying stupid, idiotic things like “We shouldn’t have death panels that want to pull the plug on Grandma.” (And that was from one of the Senators supposedly negotiating in good faith.) Of course we aren’t going to have that and no one was proposing it.

If the Republicans were debating this honestly, they would be asking their constituents, “Do you think this country should be controlled by the people or do you think it should be controlled by the corporations?” Because that is what they are defending – the right of corporations to control your life. They ask people, “Do you want the government making your health care decisions?” They never explain that the alternative, the system we have now, is that corporations are making your health care decisions for you, and most of the time you don’t even know about it.

The Republicans are lying every chance they get, and every time a citizen believes what they say, the truth dies a little more.

[its a long post but can be read in full here
    http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Stories/2009/September/03/nixon-proposal.aspx ]

    *conclusion

Comprehensive health insurance is an idea whose time has come in America.

There has long been a need to assure every American financial access to high quality health care. As medical costs go up, that need grows more pressing.

Now, for the first time, we have not just the need but the will to get this job done. There is widespread support in the Congress and in the Nation for some form of comprehensive health insurance.

Surely if we have the will, 1974 should also be the year that we find the way.

The plan that I am proposing today is, I believe, the very best way. Improvements can be made in it, of course, and the Administration stands ready to work with the Congress, the medical profession, and others in making those changes.

But let us not be led to an extreme program that would place the entire health care system under the dominion of social planners in Washington.

Let us continue to have doctors who work for their patients, not for the Federal Government. Let us build upon the strengths of the medical system we have now, not destroy it.

Indeed, let us act sensibly. And let us act now–in 1974–to assure all Americans financial access to high quality medical care.

    RICHARD NIXON
    The White House,
    February 6, 1974. ]

  47. KayInMaine says:

They should go to South Carolina and Texas and Oklahoma and find the haters who have been working so hard to incite some maniac to harm the President. STORM says:

‘Obama fibbed: Illegals to get free medical care in ERs’

(MSNBC) Administration concedes hospitals would be compensated with public funds for the care of undocumented immigrants

    Joe Wilson was right!

    Factcheck.org says otherwise.

Hospitals are already compensated for care to undocumented immigrants under some currently existing laws. The bill in question doesn’t change that, but it does explicitly guarantee that any new spending it creates does not go to undocumented immigrants. So basically all you’re complaining about is the bill not changing the status quo in your xenophobic favor.

But in any case, Obama didn’t lie. Wilson did. And now, so did you.

Besides, undocumented immigrants work harder than you do, and aren’t undeserving of anything. Maybe we should deport a lazy Amer’kin for every hard-working immigrant in the country who needs citizenship. That would save the country a lot of money. You’re all for saving the country money, right?

    Jane E. Schneider says:

Fox is not a news channel, it’s a protest organization.

Fox ia an anti-news channel. In regular journalism, they find an event you’re concerned about and go find the actual facts and explain them to you, so that any confusion you had is settled, and you understand the issue in a logical way, settling your emotional response. Watching Fox, you start out not knowing much about something that you thought was unimportant, then they get you all freaked out about how it’s a big deal and completely confuse you regarding what the facts are. The viewer is left with a sense of alarm and doubt. What they do is the exact opposite of reporting.

  138. Shayne says:

  141. SP Biloxi says:

Ah, another GOP hypocrite: Rep. Joe Wilson voted to provide taxpayer money for illegal immigrants’ healthcare in 2003. And he voted yes.

On Wednesday night, Rep. Joe Wilson [R, SC-2], shouted “You lie!” at President Obama when he said that the healthcare bill would not cover illegal immigrants. “The supporters of the government takeover of healthcare and liberals who want to give healthcare to illegals are using my opposition as an excuse to distract from the critical questions being raised about this poorly conceived plan,” Wilson said the next day in a campaign fundraising video.

However, in 2003, Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ healthcare. The vote came on the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, which contained Sec. 1011 authorizing $250,000 annually between 2003 and 2008 for government reimbursements to hospitals who provide treatment for uninsured illegal immigrants. The program has been extended through 2009 and there is currently a bipartisan bill in Congress to make it permanent.

Hospitals have a legal obligation to treat everyone who comes in seeking care, regardless of citizenship status, insurance or other characteristics. This means that hospitals treat millions of people every year who don’t have the means to pay. Obviously, this drives up the nation’s healthcare costs overall. Section 1011 helps cushion the costs for hospitals, but it’s not nearly enough to cover the actual costs in most areas.

    http://www.opencongress.org/articles/view/1219-Joe-Wilson-Voted-to-Provide-Taxpayer-Money-for-Illegal-Immigrants-Healthcare

Wilson got some ’splaining to do.

I was sitting in the waiting area of a multi-practice medical clinic waiting on Thursday to see my neurologist.

While there, a woman walks in with child in tow to see a different specialist. That specialist’s staff explained he could not take on the child as a new patient. Why? – Her provider, Humana, had but one physician in that specialty in all of Saint Johns County (Florida) authorized to accept new patients. In addition, when she called Humana on her cell, she was told that she could not go to a similar specialist outside her primary area and still be covered. She was trying to switch from that single authorized specialist as she was disatisfied with what he offered in the way of care. At that point I was called in to see my neurologist.

Twenty minutes later, she was still talking to Humana and getting nowhere. She was also near tears. As I was only picking up a script and doing the copay thing (Not required under Medicare, but since I know the amount, I do it.) I was only in on about 90 seconds of that part of her ordeal before I left the waiting area.

I bleed for that woman. I’m on Medicare and experience no problems in the selection of a provider. I also think that the staff of the specialist who she was trying to take on should have offered her space and a phone in a back area.

You know, if I was a pro-lifer who donated money to ALL for anti-abortion purposes, and they turned around and spent that money to protest the health care plan instead, I’d be pretty upset about that.

The way that right-wing special interest groups are bleeding into each other only goes to guarantee that none of them are serving even their right-wing constituencies. Setting aside the fact that they’re wrong, they’re not even doing what they’re supposed to be doing wrongly to begin with.
