Thousands of right-wing protesters are in DC for the 9/12 Project march today, inspired by Glenn Beck and organized by Republican lobbyists. One rally attendee caught a particularly tasteless sign being distributed to protesters:

Today on ABC’s Good Morning America, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) tried to portray the protesters as a bipartisan group of moderates, saying that “it’s not about President Obama. It’s not about the Democrats. … I’m glad they’re here to take back their country.” DeMint, of course, has made it all “about President Obama,” saying that the health care debate will be Obama’s “Waterloo” because it will “break him.”

My hope is Ted Kennedy’s spirit will rise up and give these neocons some much needed karma!

September 12th, 2009 at 12:43 pmThe republicans have successfully riled these ignoramuses up to the point where they’d be willing to condemn their own kids if they opposed their positions. This just shows how destructive and despicable they are. Their supporters have no idea that they are being used as tools for profit.
September 12th, 2009 at 12:47 pmThis is another indication of how low Repubs are willing to go with their cruelty and disrespectful behavior. It’s disgusting.
September 12th, 2009 at 12:55 pmWhen hundreds of thousands marched in opposition to the war in Iraq, the media barely covered it, they dismissed marchers as sore losers of the election, and didn’t accurately report the number of marchers.
Will these extremists who want to see American destroyed for all except the very wealthy – all because they hate having a black man as president – will they get coverage? Will their numbers be exaggerated? Will their slogans get repeated ad nauseum? Will they be given legitimacy?

September 12th, 2009 at 12:57 pmWhy does the media give credence to these ignoramuses, racists and other miscreants?
The right wingers are out of control in England as well.
The violence that has hit Luton, Birmingham and London in the last few months has involved a loose collection of far-right groups
September 12th, 2009 at 12:58 pmI will defend with my life their right to freedom of speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances, all of which they are doing. But that doesn’t mean I have to respect them as human beings, which they are not.

September 12th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
I felt nauseous, swallowed hard and went to DeMint’s web site. First, it says ‘We the People.’ Which they aren’t, just a minority of the people, seemingly forgetting the last election. Then there’s this:
“If the government can seize freedom in health care using obscure tricks in the middle of the dead night, how can Americans have confidence that our other freedoms are safe?”
This from CBS 60 Minutes concerning the 3 a.m. voting in the House for Medicare prescription drug coverage:
According to Rep. congressman Dan Burton, “A lot of shenanigans that were going on that night, they didn’t want on national television in primetime. I’ve been in politics for 22 years and it was the ugliest night I have ever seen in 22 years.”
He and Rep Walter Jones go on to talk about arm twisting, a female Rep crying. And then there was the congressman who told another congressman if he didn’t vote for the bill, that congressman’s son would be ‘dog meat’ if he ran for office.
Are these Republicans so stupid or so full of themselves they don’t know or care that their history will be found out? Boggles the mind.
September 12th, 2009 at 1:25 pmtimmy and the right hate Ted because he was right and he stood against them his whole life.

September 12th, 2009 at 1:27 pmRe: ALL.
I got a hit here.
Freedom of speech does not include yelling fire in a theater when there is no fire. It does not include telling lies to damage a person’s reputation for personal gain. You can’t advertise something as being something it’s not.
Here they are luring vulnerable idiots into doing stuff that is decidedly against the idiot’s best interests. I don’t even see how this is in the best interests of the perps!
So it’s a classic cutting off the nose to spite the face.
September 12th, 2009 at 1:27 pmOr will you just follow along like the rest of the robots on the left?
Wow, talk about a delusional mind. Considering that the conservative opposition to health care reform in this current debate is not based on one single accurate fact, I would say it’s the righties that “follow along”, since there is no rationale for their views.
The Republicans have not been debating this honestly. They have been lying and making stuff up and then saying stupid, idiotic things like “We shouldn’t have death panels that want to pull the plug on Grandma.” (And that was from one of the Senators supposedly negotiating in good faith.) Of course we aren’t going to have that and no one was proposing it.
If the Republicans were debating this honestly, they would be asking their constituents, “Do you think this country should be controlled by the people or do you think it should be controlled by the corporations?” Because that is what they are defending – the right of corporations to control your life. They ask people, “Do you want the government making your health care decisions?” They never explain that the alternative, the system we have now, is that corporations are making your health care decisions for you, and most of the time you don’t even know about it.
The Republicans are lying every chance they get, and every time a citizen believes what they say, the truth dies a little more.

Or will you just follow along like the rest of the robots on the left?
Where were you when Bush/Cheney were getting rid of habeus corpus, using warrantless wiretaps on everyone, torturing people, imprisoning people without charge, politicizing the justice department, outing covert CIA agents, lying to the American people about Iraq’s (non)involvement in 9-11, giving away hundreds of billions of dollars in tax cuts to the super rich while the rest of us were left to pay for them. Just a simple question for you, Tim. Would you rather our (yours included) taxes go for helping you, your family, your friends, their families and friends and so on? Actually, it was about the English Crown supporting the Corporate TEA Company over the tea companies of the Colonies( the British East India Tea Company). The Tea tax was on the local tea companies. The Colonists were rebelling about corporatism getting the influence of the English government to tax individual colonists.
Back then, the colonists were fighting about the corrupting influence of BIG Business on the Government.

September 12th, 2009 at 2:00 pmTo Mike Hunt: I agree, why do these monstrous degenerates grab all the headlines? Even from the left wing blogs? Even after the momentous speech by Obama, the display of Democratic solidarity on the issue of health care, all we are hearing is “Pelosi might drop the public option’ or ‘Obama is struggling” or endless Joe Wilson blah blah blah. Shouldn’t we let these idiots stay offstage? Instead, when I look back on the last nine months, all that stands out is their nonsense, rather than the rather considerable accomplishments of a president and even a Congress who have quietly gone about doing their jobs as well as they could be expected to do them…

The birthers, tenthers, deathers, secessionist, all pissed because we have a black President—all out there.
Where were they when Bush was shredding the Constitution? They kept their children out of school, because the President was going to tell them to stay in school—how did they explain that one. “Johnny, we have a president that mommy and daddy think is a socialist Nazi, pinko” He is a black man, who believes in science, and does not know his place. We do not want you to hear anything he has to say. And I want you to let us know if your teacher mentions him in class all this year”.
What reasons are they giving their children and grandchildren, today as they, the example their children will emulate– watch.

Poorly educated white people who do not have the facility to accept the result of the presidenial election and the fact that we the majority elected a man who is half black to be our leader for the next eight years. The world is very scary to bigots and racists.
September 12th, 2009 at 2:55 pm“Right 200,000 morons”

CCC, YOU LIE!
September 12th, 2009 at 2:58 pmDeath Counselor,
I’m still for calling a day of national strike to get real healthcare reform passed.
Mandating most everyone buy “affordable” healthcare is not what we need – with a small public option.
Hell, I can’t even afford my car insurance.
September 12th, 2009 at 2:59 pm“Sign at 9/12 march: ‘Bury Obamacare with Kennedy.’”
Nothing new by the wingnuts. Trashing the dead [Senator Kennedy] that served his state and his constituents. How much lower can the GOP and wingnuts go. The right wing loons has been known for staying classy.
September 12th, 2009 at 2:59 pmIf Beckys saying tens of thousands, that means about 500.
September 12th, 2009 at 3:00 pmYes, I was there [snark]
The difference is, today, that its our government taxing folks, yet the very lobbyists who are co-opting the movement are doing it for MORE of your tax dollars for private insurance, not less.
September 12th, 2009 at 3:02 pmYeh, they claimed that the other day but when you read the article it was a Hank Williams Jr they went to see, not the politicians. Basically they tried to co-opt the whole concert and say tens of thousands showed up for the astroturf. Such fibbers those folks.

Has anyone heard if there have been any arrests of people carrying guns around the streets of D.C.?
September 12th, 2009 at 3:16 pmSome of these idiots seem to be begging for a beat down. Like the playground bully, who will not cheer when somebody steps up and kicks some sense into him. That sign is beyond belief. what possible point can it be attempting to make except to incite violence against the carrier?
September 12th, 2009 at 3:18 pmI’ll give the stupid troll half credit. The will of the American people is the force that removed the incompetent boobs who betrayed our trust.

September 12th, 2009 at 3:19 pmOh kenneth, you poor, poor flatulance laced idjit. Little will you worry about such things while you await a trial from Gitmo for being with the Corporate Insurrectionists. You are a pawn in the larger scheme of things. We will not only blow you away, like the shell of the dust mite that bothers us in our slumber, but we will eradicate you infestations when we finally get good and bothered by your parasitic cannibalism.
Poor, poor shit for brains. You will be left HOLD THE TEABAG when it all done, and corporate powers retreat to their off-shore havens, fore they never had a dog in the fight, just traitors like yourself who are willing to subvert the Constitution to allow corporate powers to win out over living, breathing, humans.
You will rue the day a$$hole, rue the day.

Why am I not surprised that “good Christians” would NOT consider anything but a fetus worthy of a decent healthy life?
September 12th, 2009 at 3:25 pmI think we all need to be community organizers. By that I mean we need to let the black community that we support President Obama and detest the racist pigs that are denigrating him. And we need to let them know who the enemy is. That way if something unspeakable happens to President Obama that community will know who to take their outrage out on instead of taking it out on themselves. They should go to South Carolina and Texas and Oklahoma and find the haters who have been working so hard to incite some maniac to harm the President. And we need to give them the addresses of Limbaugh, Beck, O’Reilly, Malkin and various senators and reps. so they can take their revenge.
Well a girl can dream.

STORM says:
‘Obama fibbed: Illegals to get free medical care in ERs’
(MSNBC) Administration concedes hospitals would be compensated with public funds for the care of undocumented immigrants
Joe Wilson was right!
Factcheck.org says otherwise.
Hospitals are already compensated for care to undocumented immigrants under some currently existing laws. The bill in question doesn’t change that, but it does explicitly guarantee that any new spending it creates does not go to undocumented immigrants. So basically all you’re complaining about is the bill not changing the status quo in your xenophobic favor.
But in any case, Obama didn’t lie. Wilson did. And now, so did you.
Besides, undocumented immigrants work harder than you do, and aren’t undeserving of anything. Maybe we should deport a lazy Amer’kin for every hard-working immigrant in the country who needs citizenship. That would save the country a lot of money. You’re all for saving the country money, right?

Jane E. Schneider says:
Fox is not a news channel, it’s a protest organization.
Fox ia an anti-news channel. In regular journalism, they find an event you’re concerned about and go find the actual facts and explain them to you, so that any confusion you had is settled, and you understand the issue in a logical way, settling your emotional response. Watching Fox, you start out not knowing much about something that you thought was unimportant, then they get you all freaked out about how it’s a big deal and completely confuse you regarding what the facts are. The viewer is left with a sense of alarm and doubt. What they do is the exact opposite of reporting.
September 12th, 2009 at 3:31 pmHey Kenneth. Have you ever watched The Wire on HBO. How many weapons do you think are in the average housing project. You know, the kind of places that really need community activists.

September 12th, 2009 at 3:40 pmAh, another GOP hypocrite: Rep. Joe Wilson voted to provide taxpayer money for illegal immigrants’ healthcare in 2003. And he voted yes.
On Wednesday night, Rep. Joe Wilson [R, SC-2], shouted “You lie!” at President Obama when he said that the healthcare bill would not cover illegal immigrants. “The supporters of the government takeover of healthcare and liberals who want to give healthcare to illegals are using my opposition as an excuse to distract from the critical questions being raised about this poorly conceived plan,” Wilson said the next day in a campaign fundraising video.
However, in 2003, Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ healthcare. The vote came on the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, which contained Sec. 1011 authorizing $250,000 annually between 2003 and 2008 for government reimbursements to hospitals who provide treatment for uninsured illegal immigrants. The program has been extended through 2009 and there is currently a bipartisan bill in Congress to make it permanent.
Hospitals have a legal obligation to treat everyone who comes in seeking care, regardless of citizenship status, insurance or other characteristics. This means that hospitals treat millions of people every year who don’t have the means to pay. Obviously, this drives up the nation’s healthcare costs overall. Section 1011 helps cushion the costs for hospitals, but it’s not nearly enough to cover the actual costs in most areas.

September 12th, 2009 at 3:44 pmThis 9-12 episode looks like the death rattle of a delusional bunch. Unabashed hatred of perceived enemies with only vaguest concepts of why. Chickenshits carrying real weapons with no idea how to actually use one responsibly. Signs meant to incite anger printed with money from the corporations that rip them off. Fake patriotism based on misconceptions or outright delusions. False claims and assertions with no basis in fact. This group can only attract so many and even the slow minded will eventually figure out how pathetic and foolish this “movement” is. Many of these people could improve themselves with actual gainful employment.

September 12th, 2009 at 4:27 pmI was sitting in the waiting area of a multi-practice medical clinic waiting on Thursday to see my neurologist.
While there, a woman walks in with child in tow to see a different specialist. That specialist’s staff explained he could not take on the child as a new patient. Why? – Her provider, Humana, had but one physician in that specialty in all of Saint Johns County (Florida) authorized to accept new patients. In addition, when she called Humana on her cell, she was told that she could not go to a similar specialist outside her primary area and still be covered. She was trying to switch from that single authorized specialist as she was disatisfied with what he offered in the way of care. At that point I was called in to see my neurologist.
Twenty minutes later, she was still talking to Humana and getting nowhere. She was also near tears. As I was only picking up a script and doing the copay thing (Not required under Medicare, but since I know the amount, I do it.) I was only in on about 90 seconds of that part of her ordeal before I left the waiting area.
I bleed for that woman. I’m on Medicare and experience no problems in the selection of a provider. I also think that the staff of the specialist who she was trying to take on should have offered her space and a phone in a back area.

Is there something that is *not* Pro-Life
about providing health care to the uninsured? Are these people saying that providing health care to prevent 18,000 unnecessary deaths per year is a bad thing?
How confused can these people be? I would love to see a functional PET scan of these people’s brains and see how little activity is present. It’s astounding.
September 12th, 2009 at 7:21 pmProgressives are being much too glib in their comments on the 9/12 demonstration. To me, it is a serious danger when so many nativists/know-nothings are organized, in the street, and succumbing to the big lie.
We need to have a better plan for opposing these views than snarky comments.

You know, if I was a pro-lifer who donated money to ALL for anti-abortion purposes, and they turned around and spent that money to protest the health care plan instead, I’d be pretty upset about that.
The way that right-wing special interest groups are bleeding into each other only goes to guarantee that none of them are serving even their right-wing constituencies. Setting aside the fact that they’re wrong, they’re not even doing what they’re supposed to be doing wrongly to begin with.
They now officially fail at failing.
