On Saturday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) hosted a town hall event on health care where she basically claimed that President Obama is lying when he says that undocumented immigrants won’t be covered under any health care reform plan:
BACHMANN: The real issue is, will illegal aliens have access to taxpayer-subsidized health care? Well, the answer is yes, they will. In the bill, 3200 has a section that says illegal aliens will not have access to health care, and that’s why President Obama is able to say that. But the practical effect is that illegal aliens will have access to health care because there is no provision for enforcement in the bill.
In other words, someone could walk into a Health and Human Services office and say, “I’d like to have free health care for me and my family.” And the Health and Human Services office wouldn’t have any ability to ask, “Are you a legal citizen of the United States?” They would have no ability to ask, “Could you show me your documentation to prove that you’re a United States citizen?” Without that law of enforcement, the practical effect is that illegal aliens will have health care.
Watch it:
Of course, this claim is the same one made by Rep. Joe “You Lie!” Wilson (R-SC). At a tea party later on Saturday, Bachmann expressed her support for Wilson by saying that “she thanked God” for him, although she added that his conduct “is not how things should be handled.”
Many policy experts point out that if verification mechanisms are put in place, they are best done after legislation is passed so that they can best match the processes in place. On the Wonk Room, Andrea Nill explained why the House voted down verification measures:
The two amendments to verify citizenship were voted down because one would have given private insurance providers unprecedented access to the sensitive income and identity information of all those applying for health care assistance and the other would have “imposed a burdensome and costly documentation procedure that we know has been a sledgehammer for a non-existent problem.”
Verification measures aren’t always effective either. A House Oversight Committee investigation “reviewed six state Medicaid programs in 2007 and concluded that verification rules had cost the federal government an additional $8.3 million. They caught exactly eight illegal immigrants.” The Government Accountability Office has found that such requirements caused eligible U.S. citizens to lose Medicaid coverage.
Additionally, the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act already prohibits undocumented immigrants from being eligible for most public benefits, restricts the eligibility of legal immigrants, and codifies procedures for verifying eligibility.
From now on everybody who hopes to get treated in an emergency room better have their passport with them. /eyeroll
September 14th, 2009 at 11:35 amWould whites be required to verify their citizenship too?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:35 amGOP dream ticket for 2012: Palin/Bachmann.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:36 amstay classy you Batshit-crazyBachmann
Don’t House members have access to decent mental health care? It is obvious Congressman Bachmann does not avail herself of that benefit.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:36 amI thouhgt these guys were for LESS Government interference? I mean, isn’t this the same broad who told her constituents NOT to fill out their Census forms?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:37 amIf this twit gets re-elected again we all need to start to worry about the mental health of her district…
PS: Not from Texas, thank God…
September 14th, 2009 at 11:38 amThank god Jon Stewart is back tonight. It’s been a looooong three weeks. No wonder I’ve been so edgy, I needed my “Daily Show” fix of sanity to combat the crazy.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:40 amlap@7, I can’t wait for Colbert. His perspective of the politics going on in SC. should be interesting.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:42 amWHY SHOULD THEY NOT RAISE THESE ISSUES AND LIE. THE DEMOCRATS WILL ONLY BEND OVER AND GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:43 amAnd god forbid, Shelley, that someone who is sick gets medical treatment. It’s more important that we determine their legal status. More of your Christian values I guess. Hey, Shel, when you’re not having a paranoid delusion, why don’t you take a minute and look up “hypocrite”?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:43 amThere’s lots of illegal Polish and Irish people in Chicago. But they’re all white so they should get health care. But just to be safe we’re better block all brown people from getting coverage, right Michelle?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:44 ampd@8: how could I have forgotten Colbert and SC??? Listening to too much crazy must be rotting my brain. Thanks for the reminder, now I can have the popcorn ready!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:45 amWe in the GOP will find a way to crave the lies more than intelligent people crave the truth. If we can beat them in a numbers game, we win.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:46 amMichele wasn’t in office in 2003 when Republicans passed the Bill that allowed immigrants to have free Medical Care but Rep. Wilson was and he voted for it. Now with no candidate to run for President in 2012 it would be interesting to see the two female idiots on a ticket Palin/Bachmann. Girl fight as to who will be the President. Watching the protesters who knows Bush/Cheney stole the White House it could happen again. Now I know Little Ricky wants the job for the free money but he could be Secretary of State and get some oil money with corrupt deals.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:47 amThe most hateful people in this country are the reich-wing, white-wing, Christianista RePugniScums.
Their Jeebus weeps 24/7 watching this hatred.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:47 amDo you want the government running your health care? Apparently my party thinks so. Stick the INS on ‘em, boys!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:49 amThe tenbirfcondeathers are going to get some hefty fines…
September 14th, 2009 at 11:51 amRepublicans keep digging their hole with hispanic voters deeper and deeper. If they keep it up hispanics will vote over 90% for the dems just like african americans are doing now. By then it will be too late to recover. They will forever be a minority party.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:51 amIn other words, someone could walk into a Health and Human Services office and say, “I’d like to have free health care for me and my family.”
– - Oh, I guess that means even US citizens can demand free health care, right Michele?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:52 amOnly people like Michelle would DENY Health Care to people in Emergency Rooms. How Christian! I thougt Christians were supposed to care for the poor, sick, elderly and those in need. I ask myself, “What would Jesus do, ask for Documantaion?”
September 14th, 2009 at 11:53 amGO HERE and tell her she’s an idiot.
…she doesn’t make it easy and you have to work at getting to her…
http://bachmann.house.gov/
September 14th, 2009 at 11:53 amAnd everyone knows that having sick people with untreated, infectious (sic?) diseases living among us is much better for all of us right? /snark
These people, RePugniScums, are stupid the core.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:53 amBachman does have a point.
Therefore, perhaps we should also not renew or give out new driver’s licenses because some illegal immigrants get them.
And let’s get rid of interstate highways and airlines, since drug runners use them.
And since Bachman believes ACORN gets people to vote illegally, we should get rid of voting rights.
Yes, she has a point that some illegal immigrants might try to get healthcare coverage. But, children should not play with sharp, pointed things as they can too easily hurt themselves or others. Bachman should leave this to the adults.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:55 amDear Bat$hit crazy Bachmann,
I thank GOD for many things, but never for an individual heckling and bearing false witness to the leader of our country.
You may want to reread that little BOOK in all those hotel rooms.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:56 amI think it’s great policy for America to be a barbed-wire-fenced nation. Appearing barbaric towards our own sends a message to the terrorists. And France. And U.S.S. Russia.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:57 amWell, if this ding-bat wins re-election (Yet, again) I’m with texasrick@6, there is something really wrong with the water in Minnesoda. This woman is nuts.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:58 amSmacks of HR3722:
If that isn’t sadistic legislation, i don’t know what is. Luckily, it didn’t pass.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:59 amDRxJ, I have come to the conclusion that there are significant numbers of people who have read that little BOOK, but identify with the antagonist rather than the protagonist.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:59 amLaw enforcement is not Obama’s job. It is not the Congress’s job.
If it was, Bachmann would be complaining that government was involved with too much.
Enforcement is the job of those who give the health care. And YES they should have every authority to ask for identification.
With that, I’m still waiting for Rep. Dining-Room Table to produce her birth certificate.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:59 amBachmann and Republicans should really be asking what the last president did about illegal aliens. Bush did nothing because the business community preys on the illegals. These companies prefer illegals because they work for minimum wage. This is why the Republicans never went after this issue.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:00 pmJoe “You Lie!” Wilson
i wish you’d stop repeating that, TP…
just call him ‘joe the heckler’… more than he deserves…
September 14th, 2009 at 12:01 pmP.D. says:
lap@7, I can’t wait for Colbert. His perspective of the politics going on in SC. should be interesting.
Indeed, he’s got a lot of catching up to do–Colbert especially. How someone can go three weeks w/o offending the liberals is beyond me!
September 14th, 2009 at 12:01 pmSome of these people with (R) associated to their name may not be liars but they may be dumb as their constituents, if you know what I mean. How did she ever get to DC?
September 14th, 2009 at 12:03 pmYes, good point, Michele. I mean, if you were living in a foreign country illegally, eking out a meager income and sending home whatever tiny remittance you could, while constantly hiding from authorities out of constant fear of being deported – wouldn’t you march right into one of that country’s Federal Government offices and demand that they give you services?
Actually, scratch that. Someone as verifiably insane as Michele Bachmann might. But a NORMAL-brained person would probably not.
Also, could someone please explain to me why it’s okay for an undocumented immigrant to have access to very expensive emergency care at taxpayer expense, but not to have access relatively cheap preventative care that could eliminate the need to very expensive emergency care?
September 14th, 2009 at 12:03 pmI don’t remember that as being part of the hippocratic oath.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:04 pmWho does God decide to talk to?
Are criterion used to gauge your worthiness, or does one have to be schizo-affective to actually ‘hear’ God calling?
Does God use a mobile connection, or do you just hear ‘it’?
Does one get billed for the call? If billed, what happens when you’re late on a payment?
Does God require a 2 year contract with an early exit penalty?
How good is the connection, and will video be available soon?
How expensive is this ‘land to eternity’ line? Are calls billed by the nanosecond?
Secular Humanists have a lot of questions about this…
September 14th, 2009 at 12:05 pmMeanwhile, murder is also legal.
Sure, the law technically says that murder is illegal, but it doesn’t specify any means for preventing people from committing murders, does it?
September 14th, 2009 at 12:06 pmAdditionally, the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act already prohibits undocumented immigrants blah blah blah…
the frighties don’t care about any of that… they don’t want illegals to get ANY TREATMENT AT ALL… they think they should just suffer and/or die…
if any country of the world would refuse medical treatment to any american because of these idiots, i would not blame that country one bit…
paybacks are hell…
September 14th, 2009 at 12:06 pmCall him Joe ‘the screamer’ Wilson…worked against Dean.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:07 pmgood for a repeat:

Thank god Jon Stewart is back tonight. It’s been a looooong three weeks. No wonder I’ve been so edgy, I needed my “Daily Show” fix of sanity to combat the crazy.
me too!
September 14th, 2009 at 12:09 pmBachmann repeats lie; dog bites man.
Yawn. Nobody is listening to this idiotic witch any more. Her screeds’ incredulity rises in proportion.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:10 pmkas@33, The corporations bused them in. I don’t think they could have found the way without SOMEONE leading the way. After all, these people don’t even know how to dispose of their garbage. they certainly left a mess didn’t they. Although I got a chuckle looking at all the posters with ‘Thank God for Fox News!’ Sitting in the garbage cans. Seemed kind of funny and appropriate.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:10 pmHealth care is either free or impossibly expensive. Under my beloved party’s leadership, all middle ground ceased. And I’m thankful we as a nation are tangled in a web of catch-22s. It better allows the peasants to wither away or battle to their deaths. Our policies made the middle class into a burden on the government and I’m disappointed they fell victim to our policies. I’d rather not see them back on their feet, I’d rather they just not exist. Maybe their replacements on this earth will better appreciate and withstand our disastrous policies.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:15 pmRhymes with “hunt”.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:15 pmSo why don’t you add it in Bachmann? Instead of stone walling the bill how about improving it. Hell has a place for you on hold.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:16 pmIn America we more often use a method where we punish those who are later found to have broken the rules. I’m sure big government Bachmann wants everyone to carry a national ID card and for there to be lengthy bureaucratic checks in the E.R., or, hell, before you can even get in an ambulance. But, that might not be the best way of structuring things.

Hear, hear. It’s only government bureaucracy if it’s the liberal kind. If my party prefaces an order to the citizenry with “We hate big government!”, the sheeple are more likely to believe it’s one of those rare moments where government is good for soul–the wisdom of our party’s “restraint.”
September 14th, 2009 at 12:25 pmSome one needs to stand up and call this verification the disingenuous argument that it really is, a back door immigration reform.
Any verification of citizenship provision will require an infrastructure all its own to administer. Just a simple device like issuing an ID card is big and beyond the health care industry’s ability to provide and the Repugs know that so this is a win win argument for them, kill the health care reform or get the immigration reform they want. Both results are fine in their book.

BACHMANN: The real issue is, will messianic idiots like me have access to taxpayer-subsidized health care by becoming members of COngress? Well, the answer is yes, they will. But the practical effect is that messianic idiots like me can then deny affordable health care to everyone else just because it is a Democratic proposal championed by a Kenyan fascist Muslim.

good luck with that baker56.
September 14th, 2009 at 12:47 pmYeah, check white people’s “immigration status” just has hard. That white guy could be an illegal Canadian or German or Brit. Can’t just picture it? “I’ll just have to check online with INS. Oh, darn, the internet is congested, this will take awhile. Sit over there and get sicker, maybe die. Oh, and I’ve got 50 other people’s status to e-verify ahead of you.” And thus, the problem. HELP people first, check on their status later. If you accidentally spend money on, God forbid, saving someone’s life, too bad. Eat it.

September 14th, 2009 at 12:56 pmBachman is “batsh!it crazy.” Not sure where I first heard that term but I love it! What I’ve noticed in all of this “brouhaha” is that the Repubs just sit there (and sometimes they’re standing as they’re “protesting”) and whine.
I pose a question to all of you who are presently protesting our president: Why not be a mature adult and offer some sort of alternative solution if you don’t like what’s being offered???
I’m just asking a simple question but I know I won’t get an Intellectually Honest or “Mature Adult” answer from the Teabaggers…
In all of my years (and there have been quite a few of them…) I’ve never seen so much divisiveness, hate and fear-mongering as I’ve seen since Obama’s been in office.
As others here have said, the Repubs are sore losers and don’t like seeing someone who’s not white in the White House…
September 14th, 2009 at 1:01 pmWhy is it that the worst scum in congress always defends the worst scum in congress?
September 14th, 2009 at 1:02 pmWhen the Bach shows up for a mental health check up will she be able to prove she’s not from outer space?
September 14th, 2009 at 1:11 pmIn other words, someone could walk into a Health and Human Services office and say, “I’d like to have free health care for me and my family.” And the Health and Human Services office wouldn’t have any ability to ask, “Are you a legal citizen of the United States?” They would have no ability to ask, “Could you show me your documentation to prove that you’re a United States citizen?” Without that law of enforcement, the practical effect is that illegal aliens will have health care.
What prevents this now? How does health care reform make this any worse? This is a powerful technique to respond to the people who favor the status quo: remind them that the status quo doesn’t even address those things that they are screaming about.
Per the CBO’s estimates as noted by President Obama, only about 5% of the population will be eligible for and will sign up for the public option. Those people won’t just walk in to a hospital and ask for free health care. They will walk in, check in at the desk, and show their public option card. How will they get their public option card? Through the normal channels of application paperwork and approval. That’s where the vast majority of cases of illegals (aka a handful of cases) trying to get free health care will be turned away.
September 14th, 2009 at 1:13 pmUndocumented immigrants already get government-funded health care. The bill now under consideration does not affect that.

September 14th, 2009 at 1:30 pm“Bachmann Thanks God For Rep. Wilson, Repeats Lie That Undocumented Immigrants Will Get Federal Health Care”
Nothing new from the Queen of Planet Wingnuttia. Still giving her usual psycho talk.
Memo to Crazy Shelly: Go ask Old Yeller Wilson why he is against government-run healthcare before he was for it but only for his own flash and blood.
Adam Weinstein, an Iraq veteran and a freelance journalist who is uninsured wrote this piece on Newsweek here is an excerpt:
Cut the man some slack. He’s passionate! I know this because he told me, in the sole message that blazes across his campaign Web site: JOE WILSON IS PASSIONATE ABOUT STOPPING GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH CARE!
Except that he’s not?at least not when it comes to his, and his family’s, government-run health care. As a retired Army National Guard colonel, Wilson gets a lot of benefits (one of which, apparently, was not a full appreciation of the customs, traditions, and courtesies that mandate respect for one’s commander in chief).
And with four sons in the armed services, the entire Wilson brood has enjoyed multiple generations of free military medical coverage, known as TRICARE.
Yes, it’s true. As politicos and town-hall criers debate the finer points of the public option, employer mandates, coverage for undocumented immigrants, and who’s more Hitler-like, they seem to miss a larger point: the United States has single-payer health care. It covers 9.5 million active-duty servicemen and women, military retirees, and their dependents?including almost a 10th of all Californians and Floridians, and nearly a quarter of a million residents of Wilson’s home state.
Military beneficiaries like Wilson?who, as a retiree, is eligible for lifetime coverage?never have to worry about an eye exam, a CT scan, a prolonged labor, or an open-heart surgery. They have access not only to the military’s 133,500 uniformed health professionals, but cooperating private doctors as well?whose fees are paid by the Department of Defense. It’s high-quality care, too: surveys from 2007 and 2008 list TRICARE among “the best health insurer(s) in the nation” by customer satisfaction. Yet Wilson insists government-run health care is a problem.
To be fair, Wilson has been consistent in his policymaking if not his personal life: according to his last congressional opponent, Wilson voted 11 times against health care for veterans in eight years, even as he voted “aye” for the Iraq War (during the debate on the war vote, he even called one Democrat “viscerally anti-American”?several times). He voted to cut veterans’ benefits?not his own?to make room for President George W. Bush’s tax cuts. He repeatedly voted for budgets that slashed funding to the Veterans Administration and TRICARE.
And there is more:
In July, when the health-insurance debate just started heating up, he offered an amendment that would exempt TRICARE from any system of employer mandates in a health-care bill. It’s not clear whether this is necessary, since most such bills in Congress keep government benefits exempt from the rules as a matter of course. But Wilson took the opportunity to make his stand.
“As a 31-year Army Guard and Reserve veteran, I know the importance of TRICARE,” he said in a press release.

September 14th, 2009 at 1:39 pmMichelle, honey — let me explain.
First, undocumented residents will always be with us, because nobody is serious about getting rid of them. Your party always makes the most xenophobic noise on the subject, but the dirty little secret is that our economy has become dependent upon cheap, “illegal” labor for work as diverse as construction, gardening, child care, hotel room cleaning, and discount store work.
Second, these people aren’t entitled to government-funded health insurance now. Not Medicaid. Not Medicare. Not SCHIP. Furthermore, they aren’t attempting to get these freebies in droves, because generally the last thing an undocumented person wants to be is — well — “documented”. When an $8.3 million net was cast to catch illegals freeloading off the system, a whopping total of EIGHT were caught.
So what do these undocumented people do when they get sick? Generally nothing. Which means if they get something contagious, they’ll spread it around to everybody else — particularly those who work in service jobs. And when they get so sick they can’t ignore it, they do what the other uninsured Americans do — they go to an emergency room, where nobody gets refused. And when they can’t pay, the rest of us get stuck with the bill. This will continue even after everybody else in the country has health insurance — it won’t change.
So, Michelle — you really needn’t worry about undocumented people ripping us off for free preventative medicine. It’s not going to happen. Instead, we’ll continue to pay for their high priced emergency room care for the results of untreated preventable conditions, as we have always done.
Feel better now?
September 14th, 2009 at 1:48 pmHeh, MissMolly, maybe Crazy Shelley will catch hepatitis from a food handled by a sick worker who couldn’t get any preventative care…
That would be poetic justice, wouldn’t it?
September 14th, 2009 at 2:03 pmI said it before, I’ll say it again–is Bachmann not taking her Haldol?
Somebody needs to check her meds–again.
September 14th, 2009 at 2:04 pmI hate to say this but healthcare reform should cover everyone.
Insurance with preventive care is cheaper than the ER. Unfortunately, no Dem has the balls to take this position. BTW, many illegals have children who are US citizens. While the kids will get the subsidy. I could also make the case that they deserve healthy parents.
September 14th, 2009 at 2:06 pmAs hypocritters go Mickey Bachmann has forgotten as usual that the G0D like Ray Gun Ronnie gave amnesty to millions of illegals………..so what`s the problem?Personally I love their cafeteria style Christianity towards people of color, gender and religious beliefs.I thought Jesus was a socialist, the last I heard he did not charge for healing the sick.
September 14th, 2009 at 2:08 pmMissMolly hits one out of the park again…!!!
May I ask if you were/are a Political Science major in college? You certainly have an awareness and a gift for the written word that I respect tremendously…

Excellent idea. Why should we pay for the healthcare of Legal Aliens?
September 14th, 2009 at 2:21 pmOoo. Michelle Bachmann is giving Joe Wilson a lecture on proper conduct? Snap.
September 14th, 2009 at 2:24 pmPLC – thanks for putting a much-need smile on my face this Monday morning…:D
PS I even gave you a “Vote Up!”
September 14th, 2009 at 2:24 pmAre people in general, and I.I.’s in particular, all just itching to go to the Dr. on a daily basis? Ms Batshit and others
The only people I know who are like that are thoroughly insured, comfortably middle-class, and so gripped with loathing for their lives that hypochondria seems to them a preferable alternative to their daily grind.
“Dr. Birnbaum, I saw this commercial over the weekend, and it made me think I must have Restless Leg Syndrome. Can you refer me to 3 specialists so I can get a battery of expensive tests done, then add another pill bottle to my bathroom trophy case of prescriptions? It’s just that when Bill and I entertain, our guests do so enjoy 3-4 hours of conversation that revolves around our obsessions over our health issues, and I’d hate to deprive them of that….you know….”
September 14th, 2009 at 2:25 pmI’ll be damned. Double damned. For Our Lady of the Loopy Loons, Joe Wilson is ‘Answered Prayers’? Holy hamburger.
These people are worse than fracking dingbats. As other commenters have noted, not necessarily on this thread, what we need to do is integrate the current ‘illegals’ into our society. Pay a nominal fine and proceed to a green card with possible citizenship? Sure.
There needs to be a regularized program for dealing with this faux issue though gowing forward. A process for simply clocking in people who are coming over either border to seek work or start a business, with reciprocal rights for US citizens who desire to go to Canada or Mexico for the same purpose, would be a good solution. Completely unsellable to the wingnuts though; they think they’re in a zero-sum game and if an immigrant wins, they lose. And they call themselves business friendly and capitalists. Sheesh.
September 14th, 2009 at 2:26 pmFrankly, I think disallowing ‘illegals’ medical treatment is a mistake. I imagine, for example, an illegal sneaking into the country who’s already infected with, say, a new and highly virulent bacteria and virus, slipping into a major urban ghetto somewhere in the US. What’s next? Tens of thousands infected, a potential pandemic, possibly tens or hundreds of thousands dead or dying — and no longer limited to those with brown skin.
But because we are a nation effectively still ‘ruled’ by dumb shit ignorant racists, the nation as a whole must act as stupidly as they demand. We deserve what we may well one day get.

May I ask if you were/are a Political Science major in college?
_____________________________________________________________
Nope — never attended college. I had a public school education, graduated from high school, and then served a stint in the U.S. Navy as a photographer.
I just read a lot, try to stay informed, try not to let others make up my mind for me, and my snark probably comes from being the oldest child in my family.
But thanks for your kind words — they made my day!
September 14th, 2009 at 2:56 pmDoes anyone think people will be allowed to sign up for a public health insurance plan without a valid SSN? That, in itself, is the “enforcement” so I would guess that’s why no “enforcement” was put into the plan.
September 14th, 2009 at 2:56 pmEven convicted felons get some kind of care,
because withholding it would be evil.
Do righties think that I.I.’s are worse than murderers?
Immigrant health care and its impact on our systems is the cheapest, stinkiest red herring the R’s have in their arsenal. Something that decent people would just leave alone.
September 14th, 2009 at 3:01 pmIf the voices in Crazy Shelly’s head, which she calls “God”, tells her to build a bonfire out of babies? She would do it. I really don’t think there’s a worse politician on the national stage. She belongs in a mental institution, not the halls of power. She’s dangerous to democracy.

Bachmann and Republicans should really be asking what the last president did about illegal aliens. Bush did nothing because the business community preys on the illegals. These companies prefer illegals because they work for minimum wage. This is why the Republicans never went after this issue.
These companies prefer illegals because they work for minimum wage….and they don’t have to give them benefits like health insurance.
If the right really did want to do something about our undocumented immigrants, they would pass laws that would severely punish employers caught employing undocumented workers. But they have done nothing to stop the employers from offering the undocumented workers jobs. If there were no jobs, they would not come!

Actually, withholding it would be stupid, especially when it comes to communicable diseases. There’s already a theory that a pig farm in Mexico was the start of the swine flu. So, if we have the start of an epidemic and undocumented workers are not allowed access to treatment, just imagine how much worse the swine flu epidemic will be.
September 14th, 2009 at 3:14 pmAnd the people for less govt interference want to force doctors to be policemen. And without any extra money (means an unfunded mandate which I thought was also a bad word).

September 14th, 2009 at 3:23 pm880 billion [Baucus plan] for private insurance, now thats some federal healthcare that 912ers can believe in!!
September 14th, 2009 at 3:33 pmAla Clockwork Orange, these people need to have their eyes propped open and be forced to watch undocumented immigrants die for lack of medical care.
September 14th, 2009 at 3:50 pmIllegal immigrants are not asked for citizenship papers in emergency rooms. No doctor is going to refuse anyone treatment.
Many cities do not get involved in immigration matters even when the police are involved. Unless the person is arrested, it is highly unlikely they will be reported to immigration or turned over to INS. Police departments do not check citizenship nor do the cities want to get involved with immigration matters because they have more important things to do. Second, many illegals pay income tax and Social Security despite the attempts to paint them as getting a free ride when it comes to these obligations. Third, by the time employers, etc., catch up to the illegal status, the worker is fired and moves before INS can get them.
The only argument against giving these illegals insurance coverage is because that will encourage more illegals to come here. And that takes you back to the above issues again. I think if we are going to do something about illegals then it needs to be done in the context of immigration.
September 14th, 2009 at 4:02 pmBachmann is now in deep trouble with God, who looks distastefully on blatant hate-mongers & liars like Wilson & herself. Bachmann needs a better understanding about what God & Christianity are all about. They are NOT about hate, inciting violence, falsehoods, & racism, which are apparently some of her favorite things.
September 14th, 2009 at 5:12 pmOf all the Immigration enforcements laws that really works E-Verify has settled in to removing illegal immigrants from the workplace. But there is a “Sunset Provision” that could determine its future, since it’s specially working for the millions of jobless Americans? Supposedly E-Verification expires on September 30, only days after a Federal judge turned down a desperate delay from the despicable Special interest lobbyists led by the US Chamber of Commerce. On September 8 E-Verify, a contingency of the SAVE ACT was fully implemented mandating that all federal contractors and sub-contractors–MUST–use this computerized identification system.
The American people must understand their is tremendous pressure on anemic members of both political parties to dismantle, store or hinder the E-Verify process as they are the puppets of rich business enterprises. Then Rep. JOE WILSON R-NC) opened the proverbial humongous can of worms in the full house chamber.
We must endeavor to continue on raising our voices against the powerful forces that think nothing more than to destroy this valuable commodity called E-Verify. Overtime it will rid from every workplaces of millions of illegal workers, who think they are safe from government intervention. It will save billions of dollars being exported to other lands and sever the tolerant welfare programs, health care, education accessed by illegal low wage earners. E-Verify could introduced in all medical facilities, to check a persons national identity. The expedited message will spread and these lawbreakers will realize that it’s fruitless to keep on applying for jobs. Eventually families will start to pack-up and depart for every corner of the earth. But it’s up to the American voter to keep relentlessly calling the Washington switchboard 202-224-3121contacting their politicians.
Evaluate each lawmaker at NUMBERSUSA or JUDICIAL WATCH and command them to enforce E-Verify permanently. Not Voluntary for every business, but a mandatory addition for each employer. Fulfill their obligation to build the fence according to Rep. Duncan Hunter R-CA. Keep training the regular police according to the Federal 287 G directive,. Not to Rescind the No Match letter or desist ICE raids or weaken any other enforcement law, such as the 1986 Immigration Control & Reform Act. Fed’s should restrict SANCTUARY CITY & STATE policies. NOW IT’S UP TO YOU? STARTLING WEBSITE! GOOGLE—IMMIGRATIONCOUNTERS.
September 14th, 2009 at 5:41 pmThis website will the first to cry when an illegal immigrant with no cash and no insurance goes to an emergency room and gets no treatment. … Of course, they will be treated and taxpayers be on the county or state level will pay for it. This is a giant shell game. There is no free lunch. Someone will have to pay. So Obamacare is cash in my right pocket. And the cash in my left pocket will end up paying. Shell game.

The scenario you describe has nothing to do with “Obamacare”, as you call it. That’s what’s going on right now, with ANY person with no insurance, whether they’re an American citizen, a legal resident, or an illegal resident. And for undocumented residents, it will continue just as before even when health reform passes and gets implemented.
If you don’t want to pay for emergency room treatment for people who can’t afford it, what would you suggest? And don’t say “deport ‘em all!” — nobody seems to want to do that. Especially in your party.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:24 pmAnother example of Republicans clearly playing to a subculture with a tendency towards racism, violence, and the key to G.O.P success, IGNORANCE!!! If Bachmann didn’t have a vote in the congress of these United States she would be hilarious. Her constituents should be ashamed of themselves. IF THEY HAVE THE CAPACITY. Joe Wilson is pond scum as well.

Well, for one, under *current* law, that’s illegal in and of itself. For two, it’s inhumane.
Of course, they will be treated and taxpayers be on the county or state level will pay for it. This is a giant shell game. There is no free lunch. Someone will have to pay. So Obamacare is cash in my right pocket.
Of course the taxpayers will pay, because it’s the law – put in effect years ago by Republicans. So when you say “Obamacare” here, you’re *really* saying “Republicancare”.
Seems to me kwsventures, that what you’re actually upset with is the Republicans’ law that enforces reimbursement for illegals who get emergency treatment. So why aren’t you railing against them? At the very least, you should be railing about the Democrats not repealing that particular Republican law. And yet, you seem intent on blaming Obama, when Obama has absolutely nothing to do with what you seem to be so upset about.
