Obama to be first president to appear on Univision’s Sunday public affairs show, Al Punto.

This weekend, President Obama will be appearing on five Sunday morning talk shows, including CBS’s Face the Nation, NBC’s Meet the Press, CNN’s State of the Union, and ABC’s This Week. However, he is passing over Fox News Sunday in favor of Univision’s Al Punto. While other presidents have appeared on Univision, Marcy Wheeler notes that this is the first time a president will be on Al Punto:

As such, it seems to me, it ought to focus some attention on Al Punto’s role in the Sunday line-up. And, as it turns out, the White House can justify blowing off Fox for Univision not just to reach out to Latinos rather than white racists. According to Univision’s corporate communications, Al Punto (531,000) does better than FNS (417,000) in the all-important 18-49 demographic (and has done so for the last 10 months), and it often beats CBS’ Face the Nation in that demo as well.

    Whoa. That’s gotta hurt, huh?

Univision is even more AWESOME than Fox News… they must be great journalists and great Americans over there at Univision… it’s the only conclusion that can be drawn from those ratings, right Trolls?

I am glad to see the President is making rounds on the legitimate news outlets this Sunday.

It’s just as well that he passes over FoxSnooze. After all, if they had him on, they would hardly have room for Billy “The Bloody” Kristol, Johnny (”Got Milk?”) Bolton, KKKarl RoverBoy and Little Britty Hume. Besides, the President would only set up cognitive dissonance in their well-tuned echo chamber.

FoxNews is a total waste of time.

I haven’t looked at anything on that network since 2001.

Obama has an eye to the future with this appearance on AL PUNTO. Good for him.

Let the repiggies moan and complain. It won’t be lost on the few remaining Hispanic repiggies.

Moroni is baloney, and Beck is dreck.

Screw the repiggies, and screw the teabagger trash.

Why would Obama go on a Sunday News show that wasn’t the MOST AWESOME!

Or are there other measures besides ratings? ‘Cause I’ve never heard anything else referenced by you guys in any other thread.

We in the GOP, including each and every Great American ™ on Fox, do not have the balls to fight the wars we shill. We are wimps. We expect 19-y.o. kids to do our bidding. We drink blood but we don’t pour any. We were all inspired by the game battleship to grow up and make it someone else’s reality. We, however, continue collecting a paycheck in our dungeon.

I hope you’re conservative enough, conservative guy.

  21. Marie says:

Oh dear, oh dear – Obama is in danger of “overexposing” himself according to the righties.
Nevermind that he is fearless in appearing on the talk shows unaware of exactly what questions he will be asked and in what manner. Nevermind that he will be speaking freely, in complex sentences, on complex issues, and by the way, without the teleprompter that his critics are so fond of using as ammunition. (He often speaks extemporaneously in public, which his critics seem to ignore.)
The previous president could not speak coherently on simple matters, much less complex issues – he avoided the press because it would have been a mine field for him, except for his rare appearance on Fox’s friendly territory. He spoke in slogans, winks, and non sequiturs.

So the only criticism left to the opposition is to criticize Obama for appearing at all. )Note, if he avoided the cameras, he would be also criticized for doing so.)
In addition, the only channel Obama will not appear on Sunday is Fox – and they have their knickers in a twist.

  22. What the GOP REALLY means ... says:

We’re going to be keeping a close eye on this development. ACORN could be sponsoring this from the shadows. The GOP has a solid reputation for keen oversight.

Good for Obama. Fox is not a news network. They SAY they are leading the opposition they wont air his speeches. None of them in the WH press pool. Just shut them out.

    Alvaro Uribe, President of Colombia
    Manuel Zelaya, President of Honduras
Roberto Micheletti, Interim President of Honduras

Actually, I’ve got to agree with the attendees on that one. If I was near the back of the room trying to watch a speaker up at the front, I wouldn’t want somebody standing next to me talking into a camera. They should have quietly filmed some footage inside, done the talking-head part in the lobby, and edited them together afterwards. The MSNBC guy did mention that there was a FAUX Noise reporter on the other side of the room getting complained to for doing the same thing.

    .

    Marie says:

Oh dear, oh dear – Obama is in danger of “overexposing” himself according to the righties.

That’s what they say every time he makes effective use of the media and his popularity. You can tell how well he’s doing by which complaint they have to pull out about him.

    .

    Marie says:

Nevermind that he is fearless in appearing on the talk shows unaware of exactly what questions he will be asked and in what manner.

Yeah, I don’t think Bush ever did that. He always demanded pre-screened questions, if not Cheney sitting next to him as well.

  45. belaccifer lacca says:

The MSNBC guy did mention that there was a FAUX Noise reporter on the other side of the room getting complained to for doing the same thing.

But he also mentioned that that was the spot where the organizers had told them they could do their stand ups… I agree television news can be annoying but it seems a little unfair to blame them in this instance when they were where they were told to be.

  46. ElBruce says:

    Hoodathunk says:

America isn’t used to a considerate President. If he appeared on Faux, there would probably be a run on southern Walmarts for new tvs because of all the beer cans thrown.

If I wanted to break my TV, I’d throw a beer bottle. Which means that in your scenario either the rednecks have really fragile TV’s, or they’re throwing full beer cans.

Which I wouldn’t put past them.

  47. ElBruce says:

    belaccifer lacca says:

But he also mentioned that that was the spot where the organizers had told them they could do their stand ups…

Well, the organizers made a mistake. They should have moved once the people sitting right next to them started complaining. It’s not a right/left thing, it’s a “I’m here to hear the guy way up at the front, not you” thing. I think reporters sometimes forget that people are not just there to be their backdrops.

  48. NinerFan says:

I could have sworn I heard some Repub strategists saying they were going to make “inroads” with the Latino community and regain some of that demographic for 2010.

After the way they acted with Sonia Sotomajor, good luck with that! And now, the President responsible for putting her on the court is on Latino media.

  49. Xisithrus says:

Al Punto debuted on Univision in September 9, 2007 to coincide with the first Spanish language U.S. Presidential Debate hosted by Univision at the University of Miami on the same date. The show’s first guests were then Republican National Committee Chairman and Florida Senator Mel Martinez

  50. belaccifer lacca says:

The Republicans used Bush speaking Spanish in 2000, voting for Immigrants to have free US Health Care in 2003 and it will be interesting to see after the GOP has attacked Latinos for 9 months now what will they do to get the vote this time. Obama said he was a President for all the people, looks like he’s keeping his word.

  56. flight says:

My oh my how the fortunes have changed. The Republicans have spent their energies trying to marginalize this President. They assumed President Obama had rolled over and died, but it appears he was just playing dead, faking it. On one Sunday Moring he is going public and has network television at his disposal. In one simple, quite act he completely marginalizes the Republicans by snubbing their mouthpiece, FOX News.
I believe the Republicans are in for dealing with “Obama the determined politician”.
The President’s bully pulpit can be quite formidable.

I would agree, if and only if, there was a ‘reason’ this site qualified as “Western Civilized!”

And so it is the same with the word, “Democracy!”, because IMO, our system of government enables endless antinomies, or unresolved/unresolvable questions!

This is significant, because we have two eternal choices here-to subscribe to a religion, or to firmly, remain committed to the reality of physical and natural processes.

IMO, the antinomy of these latter two choices, suggests that religions in America, (as I have defined it in opposition to atheism), always preach some concrete, practical truth, or spiritual basis for reality!?
