In an interview with Katie Couric, Fox News pundit Glenn Beck said John McCain would have been a worse president for this country than Barack Obama. As ThinkProgress reported, Beck’s comments generated an angry response from right-wing radio host Mark Levin, who called Beck “mindless,” “incoherent,” and “pathetic.”
Yesterday on his Fox News show, Beck responded to Levin’s criticisms. “I’m getting all kinds of heat from conservatives,” he said. “No, I shouldn’t say conservatives. I think I’m getting heat from Republicans.” After ripping Republicans and Democrats for being essentially “the same thing,” Beck justified his earlier comments about McCain by saying the country would not be witnessing tea party protests if he were president:
BECK: If John McCain were in office, you might hear some complaints about cap-and-trade here and there, but a march on Washington? I don’t think so. Fat chance! … At least now we’ve been tossed into the boiling water and we’re awake.
Watch it:
Right-wing radio host Mark Levin immediately fired back with another attack on Beck, whom Levin calls “the 5 pm’er” (because Beck’s Fox show airs at 5 pm). “I’m told the 5 pm’er said today that if John McCain were president, would there be marching in the street?,” Levin began. “I thought to myself, are you not aware of even recent history that the entire Reagan revolution rose up against the RINOs [Republicans in name only]?”
Levin quickly escalated the tone of his criticism against Beck. “Have you no sense of your own history?” he said, addressing Beck. “This is why you refuse to consider yourself a conservative! Still searching around in the dark, in the shadows, trying to figure out who you are and who we should be. Some of us know who we are and what we must be! And we also know where we must go!” Then Levin took a personal jab at Beck:
LEVIN: If you’re not going to be politically sensible and have a strategy and have an end-game, you’ll keep winding up on weekly magazines, you’ll keep making a lot of money, but in the end you won’t make a difference.
Listen here:
Many on the right are worried about Beck’s ascendancy. Peter Wehner, a former political adviser to President Bush, recently wrote that Beck is “harmful to the conservative movement” because he’s “erratic,” “bizarre,” and is too interested in “conspiracy theories.” Rush Limbaugh recently suggested to Politico that Beck’s role in promoting the 9/12 protest was “cheap and disingenuous.” And MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said conservatives need to call out Beck’s “hatred.”
pass the popcorn please.

September 24th, 2009 at 3:51 pmLOL!!!!!!
SUDDENLY…..the reich wing glue sniffers are all ‘concerned about Becks ascendency’ as soon as he is critical of one of their own.
What a bunch of losers in EVERY sense of the word!
September 24th, 2009 at 3:52 pmNormally, I find cannibalism to be too disgusting to even contemplate.
In this case, tombaker, care to share your popcorn?
September 24th, 2009 at 3:53 pmThis piece of sht beck has been getting alot of media coverage lately, rightfully so. I like to think that we are starting to see him go down. He is one sick individual and he is dangerous. Has beck mentioned the censor taker who was found dead? How about that wingnut btch bachmann, has she mentioned it?
September 24th, 2009 at 3:53 pmNice to see the wingnut fratricide kick into gear. I suggest tossing whichever one of these two survives the catfight into a pot of boiling water, you know, just to wake them up.
September 24th, 2009 at 3:54 pmBeck is an uneducated clod Can’t the right at least find somebody well educated to clomp along in lock-step with.
September 24th, 2009 at 3:54 pmBeck, You don’t have to HOPE you are WRONG.
September 24th, 2009 at 3:56 pmSo Beck says McCain would be a worse president than Obama and uses the 75,000 teagaggers stroll in DC as proof.
Beck, walk away from the crack pipe.
September 24th, 2009 at 3:59 pmI don’t think either of them is going to make much of a difference.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:00 pmBeck is as relevant as the PET ROCK stooopids . .
Lunatics who actually paid money for a r-o-c-k !!
This, too, shall pass as did the pet rock and Becky will IMPLODE and hit the bottle AGAIN!!

CAGEMATCH

who wants to split the pay-per-view?
September 24th, 2009 at 4:02 pmIf Levin knows where he and his ilk must go, then what’s taking them so long to leave? I’m sure there’s a certain dark lord of the underworld (and I don’t mean Cheney) who’s fixing a nice, warm place for them all…and take Becky and his Beckinazis with you, please…
September 24th, 2009 at 4:02 pmI’ve raised my wager to $10.00 that Becky will be the first media figure to call President Obama a “N word” in proximity of an open microphone. Unfortunately, even that may not shut him up if Rupert continues subsidizing his show.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:06 pmConservative circular firing squad. This will be fun to watch!
September 24th, 2009 at 4:07 pmWhere are the trolls? I would think they would be eager to call Mr. Levin a RINO traitor communist socialist fascist.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:08 pmPersonally, I think Beck is the perfect poster-boy for the Conservative movement:
September 24th, 2009 at 4:10 pm“erratic,” “bizarre,” “cheap, and disingenuous.”
This was inevitable. Republicans have traditionally turned on each other when they are out of power. It starts with tit-for-tat then turns ugly.
Circular firing squad is a good analogy.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:11 pmAlex, I’ll take Republicans Eating Their Own for $1000, please…
September 24th, 2009 at 4:11 pmHeh. To hear Rush Limbaugh call anything disingenuous is ironic, no?
September 24th, 2009 at 4:11 pmmarch on washington? That’s funny shit!
September 24th, 2009 at 4:14 pmyou won’t make a difference.
Sorry but I think there already may be one man dead of hanging because of beck and his ilk.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:19 pmWatching a bunch of whacko right-wing rant-jockeys criticize each other over their ridiculous opinions is just priceless!
Before this is all over, it will be much more entertaining than a topless mud-wrestling contest between Bimbo Bachmann and Flailin’ Bailin’ Failin’ Palin.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:20 pmIts like stepping in the same land mine [dog crap] three times
September 24th, 2009 at 4:21 pmPo(m)p Will Eat Itself.
For all of those who say that Beck is simply an entertainer…he certainly does not sound like an entertainer in this clip. He sounds like a professor backed into a corner when his students question his teachings one moment, and now he sounds like a professor forced to defend his tactics when his own faculty questions his statements.
At least Jon Stewart and Bill Maher have a studio audience to laugh at their material. Beck’s forced to subsist on popularity, and by doing so has flared the anger of the side that sees him as a conservative.
I think we’re all just starting to realize that Beck is representing a third dimension in the conservative-liberal spectrum. He’s not left-wing or right-wing; he’s anti-wing.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:22 pmNow if the Republifcuks would also devour Eric “Milhouse” Cantor along with each other this freakshow would be worth the price of admission.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:23 pmHow come aaronk isn’t here defending his favorite poster boy? That’s right, on the last thread (after dozens of posts) he said he doesn’t defend racists.
We’ll see.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:24 pmYet again, Mr. Beck hits on the truth and yet completely fails to undertand what that truth is. This is a far too common trend for Mr. Beck, and it really makes one wonder which is more correct… that Mr. Beck is purposefully dishonest, twisting and distorting the truth to suit his own beliefs… or that he’s far to intellectually lacking to actually understand that which he observes and he simply jumps at shadows.
He states that if John McCain had been elected and done the same things that Barack Obama is doing that “conservative” would not be holding Tea Parties.
He’s correct.
But yet again, he doesn’t actually understand why. The REAL reason why is two-fold.
1) McCain is a Republican.
Republicans don’t oppose policy, they oppose party. If a Republican introduces legislation, they support it. If a Democrat introduces the EXACT SAME legislation, they oppose it. Why? The legislation did not change. Only the party introducing it did. They would support McCain out of blind party allegience even if McCain were implementing the exact same policies that Barack Obama is implementing.
But Mr. Beck ignores that truth.
2) McCain is white.
Even if we still had a Democrat president, but it were a white man and not Barack Obama, many of the people at the Tea Parties wouldn’t be protesting. They aren’t against “big government”… they were fine with it when Reagan did it. They aren’t against “huge deficits”. They were fine with Bush’s. They are against the “scary Kenyan”.
So, Mr. Beck… you are correct. We wouldn’t have the Tea Parties if McCain was president, even if he had the policies as President Obama. We wouldn’t have them because many Republicans are blind party followers, simply repeating talking points and completely ignoring the actual issues, and because (to borrow from President Carter) “There is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president.”
September 24th, 2009 at 4:25 pmIts interesting how soon a word, with one definition, can become an all encompassing pejorative once pundits and politicians get a hold of them.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:25 pmgrey matter user, I believe that if mccain had been elected there would be real marches on washington as our economy would currently be steeped in a deep depression.

hes like the rest of the trolls they do not know what to do as no one has told them how to react or act either way.
rushboilbuttbo is having a hard time rewriting his talking points. It will depend on who (beck, Levin) will suck on his boil. before he gives the trolls there marching orders.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:44 pmSo, Beck and friends have been “thrown into the boiling water’ huh?
Obviously, it was not ‘boiling’ enough or maybe he didn’t stay in there long enough. Of course, as lard-laden as Beck is he’d be better deep-fried.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:46 pmTossed into boiling water?

Mark Levin inadvertently indicts capitalism! What makes money and is popular is not necessarily good. In Beck’s case, it definitely isn’t. (Of course, neither is the trash that comes out of Levin’s mouth). But the point is, capitalism is an amoral system that rewards money making over all else. Michael Moore would be proud.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:57 pm“Ultimately, Beck himself is just a histrionic intellectual mess: willing to latch onto any hysterical accusations and conspiracy theories that provide some momentary benefit, no matter how contradictory they might be from one moment to the next.”
Glenn Greenwald
That about sums it up!
September 24th, 2009 at 4:57 pmBECK: If John McCain were in office, you might hear some complaints about cap-and-trade here and there, but a march on Washington? I don’t think so. Fat chance!
This constitutes blatant admission that the teabaggers are racially motivated. McCain was for bailouts as much as anybody. He’s no more of an anti-government-spending guy than Bush was, and the right wing knows it.
September 24th, 2009 at 5:00 pmLet Beck continue his rants. People are getting to see what the conservative movement is about. He is a walking, talking ad for the Dems. And what could be better than having him on Fox.

September 24th, 2009 at 5:07 pmIts why I use the metaphor “Spin Wreck” for Glen Beck, not that I am demonizing him in any way just giving my view of his theatrical ‘Enlightenment thru Entertainment” spin
September 24th, 2009 at 5:12 pmBy 2012 will be there be a full scale battle over the control of the Republican party, it will be the radical right versus the moderate Republican. At this point the craziness of the radical right is drowning out the Repub moderates. The Repub moderates are on the retreat and are slammed by the radicals everytime they attempt to stand up for moderation. Beck makes his own crazy contribution, even at this moment he is one TV saying “nothing makes sense to me anymore”, I guess I have to agree with him on that one.

September 24th, 2009 at 5:34 pmThe radical right represents a large voting bloc. Republicans will be forced to choose a platform of the radical right or more in tune with middle of the road voters or lose another election. The radical right is a sure thing and I don’t see any moderate that will be able to unite the party. A few more election losses and the radical right will have to make a choice. They cannot exist as a regional party because that does not win the Congress or Presidency.

I don’t think Beck uses Republican National Committee talking points on his show, either, like the talking naybobs do. Levin, Limbaugh and Hannity are are to the Republican Party what Pravda is to the Soviet Communist Party. They are totally intertwined with the Republican Party and are its propaganda arm.
