Rove Says ‘Obama Doesn’t Need More TV Time,’ But He Argued Bush ‘Needed To Be Out Speaking Every Day’

Karl Rove speaks before leaving the Bush White HouseIn his WSJ op-ed today, which the paper headlined “The President Risks Getting Stale: Continuous TV appearances can’t rescue a bad argument,” former Bush adviser Karl Rove criticized President Obama’s interviews on five Sunday morning talk shows this past weekend. “Mr. Obama doesn’t need more TV time,” wrote Rove. “More talk doesn’t automatically lead to greater public support, but it can erode public confidence in your leadership.”

While the impact of Obama’s “full Ginsburg” is open for debate, it’s surprising to hear Rove criticize the White House for having Obama make so many public appearances. In his new memoir, former Bush speechwriter Matt Latimer writes that “Rove was of the belief that the president needed to be out speaking every day no matter what the subject”:

Other speeches were scheduled for no apparent reason at all. Karl Rove was of the belief that the president needed to be out speaking every day no matter what the subject. Sometimes Bush would be at the podium four separate times in twenty-four hours, talking about the war in Iraq, the Olympics, the economy, or the birth of Thomas Jefferson. And the next day there might be another speech on Iraq, one more on the economy and maybe a salute to Irish Americans. This obviously made it hard to broadcast a coherent message. [Latimer, pp. 181-182]

There has been concern among some that Obama’s media campaign to push health care reform could leave him overexposed. But the recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll says that’s not the case. Fifty-four percent of respondents said they see “the right amount” of the president.

Additionally, Rove asserts that “Americans have taken the measure of Mr. Obama’s health-care plan and, as his falling poll numbers attest, increasingly don’t like it.” But in reality, Pollster’s aggregation of public opinion surveys shows that support for both Obama’s health care plan and his handling of the issue has been increasing as of late.

Rove : idiot, liar, racist, anti-American, anti-Constitution, hate-monger, violence-monger, dishonesty-monger. A true American loser & buffoon. A sociopathic liar & hater. Let’s discard Rove ( & Limbaugh, his love-buddy) the racist/hater/America-hater to the depths he deserves. He is a lying, dishonest, smearing, fact-ignorant creep. How Rove (& Limbaugh, his buddy) can even pretend to be pro-American to his blind sheep is beyond me. He hates America, Hates the Constitution, hates anything America was founded on . He lives & breathes for hatred, racism, lies, deceit, & anti-Christian distortions. Yes, I’ve repeated, but Rove needs to be trounced for his lies, smears, racism & anti-Constitution crap. So does Limbaugh, his big, ugly, fat buddy. Tweedle dum & Tweedle dumber.

  16. Cal Malenky says:

Latimer also said that they scheduled mundane speeches and dedications to make political junkets appear to be official presidential trips so the taxpayer would pick up more of the cost of the trips.
And what’s Rove complaining about? He’s blabbing on Fox every day, helping Rupert and Roger catapult the propaganda.
The new IOKIYAR- the R stands for Rove

  17. 5th Estate says:

Advertising works, that’s why Rove used it so much and that’s why he doesn’t want Obama advertising himself and his product. .

But with that fact lies an important difference between the old and the new.
The old product was crap whereas the new product is pretty darn decent.

The Republican traitors can’t keep controlling the message and pushing propaganda if Obama undermines them and contradicts their lies. Of course they think he’s overexposed. Talking to the people is effective and Obama goes up in the polls every time he does it.

  22. mari2RR says:

I remember so well going to Republican precinct meetings in Oregon when party members were disgusted with Bush because he seemed at times to boycott the news outlets. A President needs to do just that to keep contact with Americans. Sadly, my party has shifted their point of view so they can gripe about President Obama. It is embarrassing to see our party shift stands just because Democrats are in control. Sadly, they sound like childish whiners. They will continue to take a drumming in the next election if they fail to link into the sad facts our country is facing now, most of which may be a problem due to the Bush era and the Republican Party. It is sad to think most of their whine comes from their Southern-led Senators and Representatives. I had thought Mr. Bush had led our party away from its racist past. I guess the final judgment on this issue is still out since the nasty rhetoric from folks like Beck and Limbaugh persists. I am encourage though, that Rush was called out for his totally inaccurate racist explanation of the school bus incident. Our party needs to hold these racist accountable for the way they attempt to stir the racist discussion.

In short, hardcore opposition is mainly confined to the Republican “base,” itself increasingly confined to the South.
Why has Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, started making conciliatory noises? Consider these remarkable statistics:
Voters in the Northeast overwhelmingly dislike congressional Republicans. The party’s favorability rating there is a
minuscule 7, yes 7, percent. Moreover, it’s a paltry 13 percent in the Midwest; 14 percent in the West.
Only in the South is the GOP politically relevant, with a 50 to 37 percent advantage over Democrats.

  61. ElBruce says:

It is the prerogative of the POTUS to use the “bully pulpit” to whatever degree and for whatever purpose he sees fit. Period.

I didn’t like Bush’s frequent speeches, so I didn’t watch them unless it was for something important. But I recognized his right to make them. And I didn’t postulate that it was the quantity of speeches he made that would make him more or less popular. Rather, it was the (extremely poor) quality of his decisions that resulted in his unprecedented unpopularity. What you do matters more than what you say, and what you say matters more than how much time you spend saying it.

GEORGE W. BUSH IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CRIMINAL STALKER AND SERIAL KILLER!

George W. Bush continuously criminally stalked Margie Schoedinger to the point that she could not get away from it, and she committed suicide in desperation to escape: he murdered her.

“In her suit, Margie Schoedinger states that George W. Bush committed sexual crimes against her, organized harassment and moral pressure on her, her family members and close relatives and friends. As Schoedinger said, she was strongly recommended to keep her mouth shut. . . . Furthermore, she alleges that George Bush ordered to show pressure on her to the point [that] she commits suicide” (go to Google, type “blog of drizzten Margie Schoedinger,” and hit “Enter”).

“George [Bush is personally complicit] in the death (murder to be precise) of my friend Margie Schoedinger in September of 2003. Determining the exact whereabouts and contacts of . . . George Bush on September 21 thru 22, 2003, should be entirely lacking in difficulty” (Leola McConnell, Nevada Progressive Democratic Candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010).

McConnell is correct: Bush applying pressure (continuously criminally stalking Margie Schoedinger) purposefully to force Schoedinger to commit suicide does in fact constitute murder where it culminated in her death.

Bush’s method of murdering Schoedinger cannot exist in a vacuum: he must have murdered other people in the same way.

Bush also used this sort of modus operandi to intimidate or terrorize people: it is physically impossible for it to have been otherwise insofar as he could implement such a modus operandi at all. Thus, sometimes Bush continuously criminally stalked people to terrify them by inflicting organized harassment against them, their family members, close relatives, and friends—and furthermore—possibly their employers and/or contacts otherwise. Some of Bush’s victims were so scared and realized that the worst thing that could happen to them was that they would ultimately be murdered by him—for example—like Schoedinger. So it might have behooved any number of them to step down to whatever arbitrary and capricious demands of Bush or else he might have ordered to show pressure on them to the point that they commit suicide.

(There are thousands of copies of the information above on the Internet. Please feel free to go to any major search engine, type “GEORGE W. BUSH IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CRIMINAL STALKER AND SERIAL KILLER” or “George W. Bush continuously criminally stalked Margie Schoedinger to the point that she could not get away from it, and she committed suicide in desperation to escape: he murdered her” or “George W.
