People reluctant to book Palin for speaking engagements because ‘they think she is a blithering idiot.’

Since Sarah Palin resigned as Alaska’s governor, she has signed on with the Washington Speakers Bureau, hoping to cash in on her fame. While Palin did do one speech — to mixed reviews — in Asia recently, she is reportedly having trouble getting booked for more:

Palin’s bookers are said to be asking for $100,000 per speech, but an industry expert tells Page Six: “The big lecture buyers in the US are paralyzed with fear about booking her, basically because they think she is a blithering idiot.

Many big lecture venues are subscription series, “and they don’t want to tick people off,” said our source. “Palin is polarizing, and some subscribers might cancel if she’s on the lineup.” Other lecture buyers are universities, which have a leftist slant, and corporations, which dislike controversy.

“Palin is so uninteresting to so many groups — unless they are interested in moose hunting,” said our insider. “What does she have to say? She can’t even describe what she reads.

Sarah Palin is really only good as a dispenser of red meat to a snarling, rabid crowd. And she can really only do that if somebody else writes the speech (when she tries to do it herself, it’s just fodder for The Daily Show).

She isn’t inspirational. She doesn’t have worthwhile new ideas. She doesn’t provoke the intellect. And (once the novelty of listening to somebody this ill-informed wears off) she’s not even interesting.

Unless somebody has a wingnut crowd they want to get fired up, I don’t see a niche for Palin in this arena.

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin could probably get more bookings.

Nice to see the Post sum her up so aptly.

By now, most of her “supporters” are either justifiably frightened of the prospect that she might have been President, or are Machieavellian enough to believe she would be incredibly easy to manipulate to further a far-right social and foreign policy agenda.

    Either way…

    Blithering Idiot.

And when they can’t give them away, they will have them shredded rather than returning them for a refund just to keep her “sales” numbers up. I worked for a book publisher and once talked to a distributor who told me how it works. These folks buy pallets of her books before it is even published to push her up on the “best seller” list and then give them away. When they can’t give them away, they shred them. If the “best seller” lists relied simply on actual sales to a customer, very few right wing authors would be on any list.

September 30, 2009 at 10:57 AM First of all just because you think she is stupid, does not make it so. Most on the left do not have a clue about her and her accomplishments. They have allowed the media, political pundits, and talk show hosts to create their opinion of Palin instead of taking the time to do their own research and draw their own opinion. Many people are just lazy. On the other hand, maybe it is because you are just so partisan that no matter what the circumstance you would still call her names and think she is an idiot. I am certain many on the left saw the Saturday night Skit with Tina Fey impersonating Palin and that helped them form their skewed opinion of her. Look at Speaker Pelosi; she is hailed as this wonderful madam speaker, who is so smart. She wrote a book, and it tanked. So, what does this all mean? Furthermore, if she is so brilliant why did her book not go to print with 1.5 million copies as Palin? The fact is you should not judge a book by its cover no more than you should judge a person without taking the time yourself to get to know more about them before passing judgment. Nobody knows how well her book will do, but I wish her well. Your comments prove the point in my post. The incivility from the left is out of fear and it is shocking. It only makes sense that the relentless attacks prove there is fear from the left and they think if they keep up the barrage of attacks on her it will destroy her and any political desires she may have in the future. You accuse me of being brainwashed and Fox and Rush tell me what to think and say. Have you ever bothered to watch Fox, or listen to Rush? Fox presents the facts; even though I disagree with them at times, I still keep an open mind. You can then decide for yourself. Rush is a conservative talk show host and his job is to present the facts that I do not seem to get from watching other news and media outlets. There is no indoctrination going on with Fox or Rush, it is a matter of having the facts presented to you, and then you decide, you make your own decision. I choose to remain open minded. How many networks do you have to watch that actually report as Fox does? How many actually do what Fox does, present both sides, and let you decide? I have watched all of them from the alphabets to the cable networks and they do not report fair and balanced. It is false reporting always slanted negatively towards the right and favorably towards the left. There is just no disputing this fact. I happen to think journalism is dead, as we have known it. Why are so many people turning into Fox, or on radio to Rush for their news and reporting and turning off all those other networks? They are tired of the biased reproting, and uncivil behavior. They want to hear both sides and not listen to biased reporting. The left wants no criticism no opposition or they become uncivil, they rant they say it is all lies, or it is racist blah, blah, people are getting turned off by this, they just want the truth and then want to decide for themselves what they want. If anyone parrots and is brainwashed and partisan, it is you and your friends on the left. You are the ones who appear to not have an open mind and incapable of deciding things for yourself.

I have to ask you a direct question, how do you read this garbage and feel like having an aneurysm? My head just about exploded halfway down the article.

    Update to yesterday’s drinking game:

    1. Every time Palin uses an exclamation point in her book — drink one.

    2. Every time Palin claims she’s been misquoted in the book she “wrote” — drink two.

Zooey, I’ll pass on rule #1 because I don’t want to become an alcoholic and, really, I don’t want to even see the cover of her book much less search for exclamation points.

I will, however, take on rule 2!!!!!!!!!!!!

  109. USNclerk says:

Sorry, I meant NOT feel like having an aneurysm. See? It’s so ludicrous I can’t type properly.

  110. Virtual Pebble says:

    @ 81. DNFP says: P R I C E L E S S ! Seriously, was Tina Fey writing for her all along???? September 30th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

    Only during the campaign.

Rupert’s a tightfisted old editwhore & publishturd and he won’t pony up for that quality until Caribooboo Barbie turns a better trick for him.

  111. NinerFan says:

I guess one of the instructive sentences in that long hysterical conservative rant was this: “The incivility from the left is out of fear and it is shocking.”

This is a huge challenge for Americans. How can you really deal with an American who has witnessed the last couple of months and comes away from it thinking that the left’s “incivility” is shocking? That’s just nuts, plain and simple.

  112. Game of Life says:

I wonder if she still lists as one of her bs accomplishments being a part-time pta attender.

repugs would rather have in office a blithering idiot than an African-American scholar.

mooseyak is a joke like the rest of her party.

  113. Rich H says:

When Palin goes clothes shopping, how many clothes did she buy?

    None.

  114. Virtual Pebble says:

@ 85. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says: missmolly says: Sarah Palin is really only good as a dispenser of red meat to a snarling, rabid crowd. And she can really only do that if somebody else writes the speech (when she tries to do it herself, it’s just fodder for The Daily Show)…. Can you imagine what her poor ghost writer went through trying to get the book out. That person deserves combat pay! September 30th, 2009 at 12:39 pm

When you do your duty in those circumstances stateside, even if it does include trips to the Northern Fish Camp (Alaska), it’s a hazardous duty allowance, not combat pay. The ghost writer will have to wait for Rupert’s Revolt & Righty Insurrection before he can draw combat pay at home.

  115. Gridlock says:

Maybe if she rocked a bigger Bump-It® they’d come crawling back.

Nah, Playboy is off the table – her ratings are going in the dumpster. She’ll have to go for the Penthouse or Hustler shoot instead; perhaps Field & Stream’s Coogah of the Month?

  117. DNFP says:

    Hey GOP idiots,

How’d the bimbo vote work out for ya’ll, hmmm?

  118. Parlezvous says:

I believe that Sarah could do well selling sex toys on a late night infomercial. She could have a device named for her, perhaps an autographed model called “Twisted Sarah”, that would include a “rogue” setting in white only. Another model could be named “Oh God, It’s Todd”.

  119. Shayne says:

Maybe we need to boycott all outlets run by Rupert Murdoch. After all we can’t stop watching Fox News. But we could stop watching all things Fox. Remember Murdoch took over 20th Century Fox and so all programs and movies produced by them could be boycotted.

  120. Shayne says:

    Rupert Murdoch-Fox:

With financial stability came new owners, and in 1978 control passed to the investors Marc Rich and Marvin Davis. In early 1985, Davis sold Rich’s (who had fled the U.S. after evading $100,000,000 in U.S. income taxes) half of Fox to News Corp. Six months later, Davis sold his half of Fox, giving Rupert Murdoch’s company complete control. To run the studio, Murdoch hired Barry Diller from Paramount. Diller brought with him a plan which Paramount’s board had refused: a studio-backed, fourth free-to-air commercial television-network.

But to gain FCC approval of Fox’s purchase of Metromedia’s television holdings (once the stations of the old DuMont network), Murdoch had to become an American citizen. He did so in 1985 (the same year Twentieth Century Fox dropped the hyphen from its name), and in 1986, the new Fox Broadcasting Company took to the air. Over the next twenty-odd years the network and owned-stations group have expanded to become extremely profitable for News Corp. The film studio has prospered too, with Fox choosing to back away from its reputation for literary adaptations and adult themes to concentrate on larger movies such as the Star Wars trilogies (1977-1983 and 1999-2005), 1997’s Titanic (a co-production with Paramount Pictures), and others.

…an industry expert tells Page Six:”…she is a blithering idiot.”

Jeez, it took an industry expert to figure that out?

  124. shoeless says:

Hmmm, there aren’t even any trolls on the “blithering idiot” thread. I guess you don’t have much spare time when you are trying to foment a military coup.

  125. Reggie says:

    John Warner:

You’ve got that right, the ghost author is a far right wing

Sarah Palin’s Book Ghostwritten by Associate of White Supremacist McCain

  126. Mark701 says:

Well at 100k a pop it’s pretty obvious why she quit being govenor of Alaska which pays a measly 150k/year. So it was for the money eh girl? No surprise there.

  127. DNFP says:

Is there any question why the American press was forbidden to cover her speech in China?

    Too bad it didn’t work.

    :(

  130. ElBruce says:

    Virtual Pebble says:

I think a nude centerfold in either Field & Stream or Guns & Ammo would be tasteful and appropriate.

  131. Leftside Annie says:

    A ROGUE IDIOT????

    EEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!! SAVE US!!!!

  132. Hoodathunk says:

Since Sara has decided rogue is the way to go she should just appear on national TV in pasties and G string and declare she is proud to be a C Street concubine.

    That would be rogue.

  133. pete says:

What took them so long? I knew she was a blithering idiot after two minutes of Googling her. And then she started talking, leading me to conclude that she’s stupider than I can even comprehend.

  134. Wiz says:

The conservative authors get bulk sales from the right wing organizations. This puts them on the best seller lists. The books sit in warehouses, the right wing orgs give to books to their contributors.

  135. Linus says:

We all know Sarah’s not camera shy in the least; so, there had to be a good reason why she insisted that her China speech be closed to the media. Turns out there was! And it’s precisely what I suspected from the get go. She and her handlers — well, her handlers anyway — knew full well that if any of her “speech” were to escape, Sarah would be hard pressed to find another group stupid enough, or foolish enough, or just plain masochistic enough to hire her for another speaking gig.

  136. jaleh says:

Well! The blithering idiots will pay to see her?

  137. pete says:

You got that right, Linus. About the only places with the cash and inclination to hear her speak would be megachurches. And I don’t see the Hagees of the world dipping into their swag for a moron like Bible Spice.

I wonder how long before she’ll claim she was misquoted in a book she “wrote.”

That doesn’t mean shit since we know repugs will buy pallets of book to boost numbers. She probably paid for her own books with her 100k.

Anyway, mann hit number 1 too.

  139. shoeless says:

Yes, it is obviously bulk sales. I mean, how many of her fans can read?

  141. SnowCritter says:

    Now wait a minute….

I know several blithering idiots — they’re smarter than Palin.

  142. MapleStreet says:

Listen, if you guys can’t have any mercy towards Palin,

At least think of William Shatner. He had a blossoming career in reading Palin speeches. Now that career is ended before he even had the chance to put out Palins book as book on CD.

  143. pete says:

    SnowCritter,

Is it possible that your acquaintances are “babbling fools” rather than “blithering idiots”? The two are difficult to distinguish without a side by side comparison.

  144. Rich H says:

    Linus @ 136,

Who among her handler was genius enough to let her speak for 75 minutes? They would have done her a favor if they kept her remarks to 10 – 15 minutes.

No matter how “well” prepared she was you know she must have totally wandered off script at least a few dozen times.

As for me, I can usually tell a moron after they speak for 30 seconds or less.

  145. Bozo The Neoclown says:

“basically because they think she is a blithering idiot.”

doing my best bette davis impersonation:

“butcha arh sarah, ya arh a blitherin’ idiot”

  146. dynasty8907 says:

$100,000 per speech are they joking? Nobody in their right mind would pay that much to see a woman who didn’t even govern Alaska for a full term.

  147. Rich H says:

    Mathazar,

I just read your link. I wonder what happened to THAT republican party?

  148. RUCerious says:

I’d bet some folks are buying it to see if it is written in shrillshriek.

  149. EmTee says:

Nah, there are still plenty of folks out there who will buy her book and would gladly go to hear her speak. There is no shortage of rabid right-wingers who still believe Palin is a “real American” and speaks for them.

    It’s unfortunate.

  150. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Yes, News Fox, it is idiotic.
    True, but idiotic.

  151. ElBruce says:

    shoeless says:

Yes, it is obviously bulk sales. I mean, how many of her fans can read?

    Both of them.

    (rimshot!)

    .

    EmTee says:

Nah, there are still plenty of folks out there who will buy her book and would gladly go to hear her speak.

Maybe if she billed it as free-form poetry. Have somebody play a bass walk behind her and then somebody else can ask her what the key foreign policy challenges are, and let her spew word salad for the next ninety minutes… I could see some entertainment value in that. But not a hundred grand’s worth.

  152. sscncturn64 says:

Well if she cant book speaking engagments im sure she can still get a gig over at fox noise.

  153. ElBruce says:

  154. blclem says:

Why are liberals so afraid of her? They are so afraid of her that they go after her family and her character. Have you no shame?

  155. mcthorogood says:

Palin’s bookers are said to be asking for $100,000 per speech.

Yea, that’s cheap considering that she needs $90K for a new outfit.

  156. ElBruce says:

    blclem says:

Why are liberals so afraid of her?

What you’re hearing from us, with the repeated exclamations while we hold our sides and roll on the floor… that ain’t fear.

    .

    blclem says:

They are so afraid of her that they go after her family and her character.

Anybody who bases their politics on “family values” and “character” should make damn sure that they meet the high bar that they have set for themselves. The only real political “sin” in America is hypocrisy.

That is an interesting comment, and it is worthwhile reading.

    News Fox says:

MORONS like you often react this way to the truth. You are so unfamiliar with it. Check the NYTimes best seller list. Books bolstered by bulk buys are indicated by a dagger. Pretty much all the rightwing idiocy books are marked with the dagger. It isnt our fault you are too stupid to know the facts.

  160. EugeneDebs says:

    blclem says:

Afraid of her? HA. My GOD you are stupid. I guess that is what Rush tells you to think so you HAVE to regurgitate it being far too stupid to think for yourself. Us liberals love to laugh at Simple Sarah Bimbostien
