Steele Admits RNC ‘Seniors’ Bill Of Rights’ Is Pure Politics, Dismisses Critics As ‘Washington Inside Poop’

Today on Laura Ingraham’s radio program, RNC Chairman Michael Steele responded to recent criticisms that he was rooting for America to lose its 2016 Olympics bid. Although both Steele and Ingraham had ferociously cheered for President Obama to fail in his bid to grant Chicago the Olympics, Steele scoffed at those critical of his cynicism as “so typical Washington inside poop.”

Ingraham then pressed Steele about a Politico report that GOP leaders had delivered him a “heated message” to stop meddling in Republican policy proposals:

INGRAHAM: GOP leaders to Steele: back off. GOP leaders in a private meeting last month delivered a blunt and at times heated message to the RNC Chairman Michael Steele and they said essentially quit meddling in policy. [...]

STEELE: No I’m not going rogue and that’s a factual inaccuracy, I did consult with Senator McConnell and Congressman Boehner [...] Again that is typical Washington stuff, trying to create a tempest in a teapot. [...] The one thing I’ve always stated from day one is I don’t do policy, I do politics. [...]

INGRAHAM: Were you told to stop meddling in policy?

STEELE: No I wasn’t told to stop meddling in politics. A certain one or two senators wanted to know what that was all about. [...] There’s some staffers who clearly have a bug up their you know what. That’s their problem.

Watch it:

In August, Steele released a “Seniors’ Health Care Bill of Rights” declaration stating that Medicare should not be “cut.” Given the fact that the Republican Party — and Steele himself — has long sought healthcare entitlement cuts, and often the outright elimination of Medicare, the move was seen as a transparent attempt to scare seniors from supporting healthcare reform. The move not only drew widespread media ridicule, but apparently an angry backlash from GOP leaders like Rep. John Boehner (R-OH), Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sen. John Thune (R-SD), and Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) for Steele’s role in crafting policy.

Sources say Steele initially defended his efforts to push a protection of Medicare, at one point telling fellow Republicans that his upbringing on the “streets” made him a fighter. However, Steele apparently backed down. By again admitting that he “doesn’t do policy,” only politics, Steele also concedes that his entire effort was a hollow attempt to confuse the public.

As Steele has said, there is “no reason, none, to trust our words or our actions at this point.”

Michael Steele is the least of the Republican Party’s problem. Their party as a whole have not one damn thing to offer this country that’s both positive and progressive.

I didn’t like Michael Steele much when he was an analyst during the election. Then I felt sort of bad for him when the far right fruitcakes starting going after him. But once he signed on to their way of doing things, I just dismissed him completely.

He’s just one more in a long line of empty suits in the GOP, whether it be the media or the politicians.

They’ve got nothin’, and are so desperate that they ridicule President Obama for wanting to bring the USA back towards respectability.

What a bunch of losers. Each and every one of them.

I hope you’re right. If Steele is removed, Ken Blackwell is the most likely favored to replace him. And if that happens the 2012 election will be a cakewalk for the dems.

  10. AngryOne says:

As Politico reported Monday, Republicans leaders took RNC chairman Michael Steele to the woodshed for his high profile role in the health care debate. Furious that Steele’s so-called “seniors’ bill of rights” committed the GOP to “no cuts to Medicare,” the Congressional Republicans told their chairman to “quit meddling in policy.” Of course, given the GOP’s 50-year war on Medicare, their fury should come as no surprise.

Beyond his almost daily, run of the mill buffoonery, the leading lights among the Capitol Hill Republicans were apparently livid over Steele’s foray in their turf when it comes to scaring the bejesus out of the 46 million American seniors served by Medicare. While Mitch McConnell and company want to terrify the elderly about mythical benefits cuts they falsely claim President Obama will produce, the GOP braintrust is even more terrified by Steele’s pledge in a Washington Post op-ed and August RNC ad calling for a “Seniors’ Bill of Rights”:

“Let’s agree in both parties that Congress should only consider health reform proposals that protect senior citizens. For starters, no cuts to Medicare to pay for another program. Zero.”

Of course, Politico’s description of the GOP as a “a party not known for its attachment to entitlements” is a comical understatement when its comes to the perpetual Republican war on Medicare.

    For the details, see:
“Republican Leaders Remind Steele GOP Hates Medicare.”

Republicans are good at screwing up the economy, leaving a giant mess for demlibs to clean up.

Which policy did democrats implement in their initial two years in power–fraught with obstructionism and the wielding of a cowboy’s veto pen–that caused things to go “downhill ever since”?

Name the demlib policy, one tax raised during that time. Thanks.

When audits of Fannie Mae indicated giving home loans to those who can’t afford it as well as pushing banks to lower their loan requirements was found, Chris Dodd and Barney Frank blocked all recommendations to improve

They actually passed the bill you say that blocked once they regained power. They weren’t at liberty to stop or move anything along before then. Please note that the McCain camp was filled with Mae/Mac lobbyists and that the company didn’t get into the subprime business until late in the game. You should also note that that Nixon took the biggest step removing the bulk of their government sponsorship, in 1970, where they were spun off into private companies. The lobbying arm became more powerful than the remaining thin film of government sponsorship.

So the math would not confirm that typical GOP claim on the merits, meaning that Mae/Mac’s spiral into conservatorship was a symptom, not the cause, of the economic downturn. No doubt, however, than leadership at the top was corrupt.

The aaronk you say you’re not claims to live in a blue state. Just as you do.

You talked about visiting a location within easy driving distance of the aaronk you say you’re not.

The aaronk you say you’re not claims to be a college student, while you claim you have 25 employees. Based on your posting (trolling) schedule, it’s far more likely that you’re the college student you say you’re not.

The aaronk you say you’re not believes some very strange, debunkable things. You believe Adolf Hitler was a leftist, which is equally strange and debunkable.

    You’re the same aaronk.

You say I’m wrong? Prove it. Right here, right no. Go.

I don’t doubt it. Loneliness is often a major factor in why a troll becomes a troll.

Man, why do you guys hate black people so much.

Arronk here has a point. Conservaties dont hate black people. They believe everyone should own one. Unfortunatly they found that they dont own Steele.

However he is one of the best spokesmen for the repug party.

Yup, and dat’s how Mike rolls baby. The sock puppet RNC chairman has been put in check and put in his place by his two bosses: GOP leaders and El Rushbo.

  98. Virtual Pebble says:

    Last sentence from the TPpost on Michael’s latest;

As Steele has said, there is “no reason, none, to trust our words or our actions at this point.”

Doesn’t Michael recognize that as a policy statement? When did he issue it; before or after being told to not meddle in policy? (Ah, pardon; it was originally posted on TP in February 2009, so before. Maybe.)

Anyway, that’s good. A truly tasteful political advertising campaign could be produced around the fact that the Republican Party policy is to do and say things that cannot be trusted by the American people. Lie, cheat, deceive, etc. I couldn’t have put it better myself, and it should be fed back to the Republipimps at every opportunity.

And I apologize for preaching at the choir…

  99. Virtual Pebble says:

@ 35. What the GOP REALLY means … says: “Zooey says: Maybe aaronk can spend a little time with his dictionary, learning the difference between “hate” and “contempt.”” The trolling floor expressly prohibits use of any dictionary sourced from elitist liberal universities. Conservapedia, NYPost, Americans for Prosperity, etc. are the only permitted vocabulary building sources. If employee aaronk comes within a millimeter of an Oxford Dictionary, he will be fired. October 5th, 2009 at 9:12 pm

psst, hey kid, yeah, you, aaronk. wanna nice scanned page from the Oxford English Dictionary? it’s better than that dumb old AFP PR vocabulary builder crap, it’s got (snurk snurk) real words, not ad cliches… hey, come on, it’s cheap, your bro’ Big Mike will let you charge it on the RNC card..

    Poop?

Steele comes up with the most fascinatingly creative ways to embarrass himself. Not through sex scandals, or racism, sexism, xenophobia or off-the-chart insanity, he’s somehow managing to do it through pure unadulterated ridiculous phrasing.

    It’s really quite impressive.

Income inequality? You want some of that Kennedy, Reid,Pelosi or Edwards compound? Are you proposing a new wealth tax? Perhaps something like what Russia did in 1920?

More like what America did from 1944 through 1963.

    aaronk says:

I realize it is your job to keep conservative viewpoints off of this board, no matter how unethical and dishonest the tactics are, but come one…

He must be doing a pretty good job, because I almost never hear a conservative viewpoint here. Extremist radical right-wing propagandists sure, but actual conservatives are few and far between these days. (hint: you’re the former)

Government admits filming torture of Gitmo inmate, alleged 9/11 plotter
    By Stephen C. Webster
    Monday, October 5th, 2009

    http://rawstory.com/2009/10/government-admits-recording-torture-of-alleged-911-plotter/

The United States government admitted on Monday that the torture of a Saudi man alleged to be part of the 9/11 plot was recorded on video, according to court documents procured by the Center for Constitutional Rights.

The tapes, allegedly showing the torture of Mohammed al Qahtani, 31, have long been kept under wraps, but a discovery motion for video of his interrogations led the court to acknowledge their existence and order their release.

“The videotapes the government is required to produce will reveal the time period at the end of three months of intensive solitary confinement and isolation that immediately preceded the implementation of the ‘First Special Interrogation Plan,’ a regime of systematic torture techniques approved by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for use against Mr. al Qahtani,” claimed a CCR media advisory.

I have noticed that the non-wealthy Republicans are very willing to defend the right of the wealthy Republicans to screw over the rest of us while complaining that the goverment is doing what they call “redistribution”. Just like those that don’t have health insurance defend the right of the insurance companies to deny them coverage.

  106. barfly says:

Sources say Steele initially defended his efforts to push a protection of Medicare, at one point telling fellow Republicans that his upbringing on the “streets” made him a fighter. However, Steele apparently backed down.

Ah, the communist/fascist decades. It’s a good thing the right-wing took over and ended all of that. Now look how wonderful everything is.

  109. Trollspotter says:

aaronk is arguing that the aaronk who went on an unhinged racist rant when Barack Obama became President is not actually him. He alleges it’s a case of mistaken identity.

    aaronk says:

this person couldn’t be much further apart from me

Here is further proof that our aaronk troll is the same violent, racist wingnut.

In his attempts to convince us that he is a reasonable person and not a far right whack job, our aaronk has repeatedly made a point of insisting that he disagrees with conservatives on the issue of gay marriage:

    aaronk says:

I often disagree with conservatives, for example on gay marriage

    aaronk says:

This is a great issue for me to discuss with progressives, because I tend to disagree with conservatives most of the time on this one.

Wouldn’t you know it? The openly racist aaronk (who our aaronk claims he’s not) also breaks from conservatives on this particular issue.

Because both aaronks believe in civil unions. Here’s the openly racist aaronk:

    aaronk says:

Anyone here opposed to gay marriage but in favor of state sanctioned civil liscenses that give homosexual couples the same rights as married couples? I have been in particular favor of this because it seems like a fair compromise to religious groups and proponents of gay marriage who are looking to receive the same benefits as everyone else.

And here is our aaronk, trying to “compromise” with a proponent of gay marriage, X4Progress. Instead of gay marriage, he offers a civil union.

    X4Progress says:

aaronk, through marriage, a person recognizes immediate benfits. In my case, I realized immediate access to health insurance (something my employer could not afford). I am also his heir apparent if, god forbid, something should happen to him. Being a bi-sexual American who has lived in both worlds, traditional marriage definitely provides many benfits and is a thousand times easier. Did I take the easy route? Probably. But believe me, commitment is commitment regardless of gender and all people should be entitled to the same benefits.

    aaronk says:

I see your points. In the event that a legally recognized civil union is present, does that serve the same purpose for you?

Now here’s the openly racist aaronk, agreeing with another poster that government should “get out of the marriage business altogether.”

    AnUnidentifiedMale says:

I’d like to see the government get out of the marriage business altogether and just give civil union licenses to everybody.

    aaronk says:

I actually find myself more in agreement with you.

    And here’s our aaronk:

    aaronk says:

I would like to see government get out of the marriage business all together, gay or otherwise. Why does the government need to recognize anyone’s marriage?

Look familiar? That’s no coincidence. It’s the same wingnut.

  110. Virtual Pebble says:

@ 114. Trollspotter, I looked at the comment the not-aaronk aaronk left at citydata right after the election and it sure does look like the aaronk aaronk. I concur in your assessment. He’s young, so there may be hope, but it’s difficult to stop being a bigot; you have to start seeing people as individuals, see people in their own persona, rather than projecting your own preconceptions and stereotypes. It isn’t easy to break out of that, especially if you’ve been trained in bigotry since childhood and if most of your friends were trained the same way it becomes really reinforcing. On top of that, he’s probably been in yet another environment where he’s been trained to conceal that bigotry, to be a hypocrit, a liar about it in public, because it’s not the done thing.

But nonetheless, a bigoted and perhaps racist troll be he.

  111. Trollspotter says:

Virtual Pebble, I like your optimism. Maybe there’s a chance for the aaronks of the world to shed their bigotry and duplicity and rehabilitate themselves. Maybe at some future date. I’d like to think it’s possible, but judging by his past comments I fear it’s not too bloody likely.

  112. Crazy Cat Lady says:

    Hi Trollspotter –

I think you forget to mention that aaronk is a pussy and a welcher too!

But then, it’s so nice of you to let me say it each time! :)

    Go Sharks!
