Bachmann’s agenda: ‘After we defund the left, we pass repealer bill after repealer bill after repealer bill.’

At a briefing with conservative bloggers held at the Heritage Foundation today, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) articulated “the way forward for conservatives.” Bachmann’s strategy consisted of defeating Democrats in 2010, defunding the left and passing a series of “repealer” bills:

BACHMANN: We have to defund the left. And this is great. Gallup came out with a poll, I think last week or the week before, that said the American people believe that Congress wastes 50 percent — 50 cents or 50 percent of every dollar it spends. God love the American people. They get it. They understand the truth that actually there’s huge waste. So we defund that but then the third thing that we do, which you’re getting into with economic development, is we have to after we defund the left, we pass repealer bill after repealer bill after repealler bill. Because there’s a huge machinery that’s been built up in this town. And we have to just repeal it. And we have to campaign on that to the American people. That is a hugely winning message right now with the American people.

Watch it:

Bachmann isn’t the first conservative member of Congress to express a desire to “repeal” legislation passed under Obama if Republicans take back control of Congress again. In August, Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) said “we’ll repeal” health care reform if it passes. Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) said at the Values Voter Summit last month that he dreams of telling President Obama in 2010, “we need to repeal the disaster and the tyranny that you passed last session.”

After she’s defeated in 2010…can we have her involuntarily committed? Please?

Anyone GOP pol who claims that they’ll get back in power and repeal these pieces of legislation…is either pandering shamelessly to their increasingly ignorant and rabid base, or is so completely delusional that they need to resign for mental health reasons.

My party’s got some wads, still pickin’ at their scabs AND lusting for a quick return to power. Power for power’s sake is a beautiful thing, whether it’s in politics, education or business. A strong command-and-control leadership climate entails catching the hostage who tries to get away and tyin’ ‘em back up in the shack. America wants a daddy figure who says yes to suffering and no to relief. I love this party with all my heart.

By taking away every last penny we have and giving it directly to Wall Street? Michele Bachmann looked like she would win easily until she made some incendiary remarks calling for McCarthy-like investigations of members of Congress for alleged anti-Americanism. These comments raised $1 million for her challenger in 24 hours and he nearly took her down. Democrats really despise her and will go all out to get her in 2010. Although her district is R+7, she is so wacky, that she will really have to fight in 2010. The most likely challenger is the assistant majority leader of the state Senate, Tarryl Clark. If Clark is chosen at a springtime party convention, she probably won’t face any primary opponents and this will be one of the hottest races in 2010.

That is a real factor in the health care battle, the radical right is pissed that it didn’t work. I think last week or the week before, that said the American people believe that Congress wastes 50 percent — 50 cents or 50 percent of every dollar it spends.

That right there is how Republican “facts” work. She doesn’t cite a study showing that 50% of government spending is wasteful; rather, she cites a poll saying that people believe that 50% of government spending is wasteful. And treats it as if that was saying the same thing.

Now, I could understant politicians talking amongst themselves wording things in terms of addressing the concerns that most of their constituents have. But standing up and saying to us that, for example, since a majority of children believe in Santa Claus, we should shut down airline travel over Christmas so as not to threaten his sleigh with collision, is… what’s the word? Oh yeah, moronic.

WASHINGTON, October 2 – The Senate last night passed an amendment by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) that would require the Department of Defense to calculate how much the Pentagon pays companies that committed fraud.

The measure, added to a defense appropriations bill, also would make the Pentagon recommend how to penalize contractors that repeatedly cheated the government out of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Sanders contrasted the sweeping scope of defense contractor fraud to misdeeds by a few employees of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. The ACORN workers were fired for what Sanders called “an outrageous and absurd discussion with actors.” The sledge-hammer response in the House of Representatives and the Senate was to cut off federal funds for ACORN.

“Virtually every major defense contractor in this country has been engaged in systemic, illegal, and fraudulent behavior, while receiving hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer money. We’re not talking here about the $53 million that ACORN received over 15 years. We’re in fact talking about defense contractors who have received many, many billions in defense contracts and year after year, time after time, violated the law, ripping off the taxpayers of this country big time,” Sanders said.

According to the nonpartisan Project on Government Oversight, the three largest government contractors – Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman – all have a history riddled with fraud and other illegal behavior. Altogether, the three companies engaged in 109 instances of misconduct since 1995, and were fined $2.9 billion. How were they punished? In one year alone, the big-three pocketed $77 billion in government contracts in 2007.

With a $12 trillion national debt and the biggest budget deficit in history, Sanders said, “Taxpayers want to know that the money we spend – whether it is for defense, housing, education, or any other purpose – is spent as wisely and as cost-effectively as possible. They also want to know that the corporations and institutions and individuals who receive this funding are honest and trustworthy.”

Now THAT’S some waste that can be managed…
    … But will Bachmann?

    .

Is this a death threat or a threat of violence against everyone on the left? I clicked on Report Abuse, and I hope everyone else does as well.

Michele Bachmann has a great plan. Plus, she’s hot.

Like repealing schip, medicare, medicare, VETERANS BENEFITS, education, police, fire, FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT, welfare, all things that fall into “the general welfare of the people” (The Constitution of the United States of America)? Is that included in your anti American agenda too?

    Wow!!! That’s soooooo “hot”.

    NOT!

Could Texas secede sooner so you have a country to move to since you hate America so much? Now THAT would be “hot!”

  109. Intrepid says:

Bachmann’s agenda: ‘After we defund the left, we pass repealer bill after repealer bill after repealer bill.’

    Translation:

Bachmann’s agenda: When our party goes down in flames permanently, we want to take America down along with it.”

Is there a bed available at the mental hospital for this mentally ill patient?

What are the poll numbers on this woman?

Is it possible she could be reelected again?

What kind of people elect someone who is so obviously crazy?

    How does that happen?

  111. Alejandro says:

How about repealing the Patriot Act? How about repealing the Authorization for the use of force? And the Wiretapping bill? How about repealing the Military Commissions Act? The list goes on and on. So, let’s get to repealing.

There you have it America, in black and white. The GOP wants to try and take away EVERYTHING that the dems want to put in place to help us.

@ 33.Mr.Duke says: President Barack Obama has increased the U.S. marketable debt to an unprecedented $6.94 trillion as he borrows to spur the world’s largest economy. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. predicts the country will sell about $2.9 trillion of debt in the two years ending next September. More debt, awesome. October 6th, 2009 at 7:43 pm

Hey, Dukester, what’s the problem? That’s the American way, yanno? Heck, the Shrub and his boys sold Treasury bills to finance a couple of wars instead of holding off on tax cuts for Treasury bill buyers and coupon clippers, so what’s your problem with President Obama doing it? He’s still sending some of the proceeds to Halliburton and the other sole source contractors, he’s still pouring it into a rodent-hole in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. You annoyed because some of it is being spent here at home? You and Michele Bachman; ding-a-fracking-ling.

WTF is she doing with her hands? I wasn’t quite sure if she was putting on a puppet show without the socks or if she was attempting to do a sign language interpretation.

Hmmm….where are theose “death panels” when you need them?; here’s someone I would like to see be the 1st victim of it and, hey, maybe her “lemmings” will follow her…

  116. linzloo08 says:

The sad thing is that there are people dumb enough to follow her…. BTW, jk on the whole “death panels” thing… Just wanted to add my disclaimer, since I don’t agree with killing any elected official, even if they are stupid.

I wonder why 3 million people a year are leaving this country, could it be that it is so prosperous? I think not. I’m sure they’ll all still be sending their tax dollars, don’t you?
