Reuters reports that a new global survey has found that the United States is the most admired country in the world. The U.S. nabbed the top spot of this year’s National Brand Index (NBI), which ranks countries by how admired they are globally, up from number seven last year:
The United States is the most admired country globally thanks largely to the star power of President Barack Obama and his administration, according to a new poll.
It climbed from seventh place last year, ahead of France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan which completed the top five nations in the Nation Brand Index (NBI). “What’s really remarkable is that in all my years studying national reputation, I have never seen any country experience such a dramatic change in its standing as we see for the United States for 2009,” said Simon Anholt, the founder of NBI, which measured the global image of 50 countries each year.
When asked about why he believes the United States shot up to the top of the list, Anholt explained that it likely is because of the election of Barack Obama. “There is no other explanation,” he said.
But, but, but Limbaugh said the world loved Bush better.

Could be simply the unseating of George Bush and his band of criminals, but I’m sure Obama had something to do with it also.
Why is Bush/Cheney not on trial for War Crimes?
October 6th, 2009 at 2:09 pmYes, they will tell us how much they hate the world.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:10 pmBTW,
Well done, President Obama.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:10 pmYou won’t be hearing this on MSM. From what MSM tells me Obama is a failure, day after day, week after week. I doesn’t matter that Sonia Sotomoyer is a SCJ. It doesn’t matter S-Chip was passed. It doesn’t matter the Lily Ledbetter Law was passed…
October 6th, 2009 at 2:10 pmBut, but, but Limbaugh said the world loved Bush better.
I think Limpballs has lost all recognition of GDumbya . . . as is true of most right-wingers. It’s as if he never existed. It’s as if the U.S. existed in a vacuum for the eight years between Clinton and President Obama.
What else would explain the fact that they can’t see the obvious connection between GDumbya and the mess we’re in today?
October 6th, 2009 at 2:13 pmIt’s more than Obama, it’s the fact we elected him and got rid of the Bush cabal.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:13 pmIt’s that we the people took steps to heal our country.
I agree with Zooey, Kudo`s to the Obama administration for all of their efforts.Tell the Shrub talking out problems works much better than democracy from a barrel of a gun.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:14 pmAren’t you guys gonna give the credit to where it is due.
Bush ran on a platform of returning America to being admired the world around. He ran on a platform of restoring honor and dignity to the White House.
He accomplished both in January 2009.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:14 pmThese are facts incompatible with Fox News’s mission.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:17 pmSweet.
The reactionary right will somehow spin this as saying the world is ungrateful to America, or that the world is socialist, or that Obama sold out America so the world will like us, or that the world is seceretly a Marxist muslim from Kenya.
And so on.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:19 pmBut, but, but, i hear that Obama didn’t do anything in 8 months. Doesn’t matter that in this period of time he has done more than any president in recent memory, stopped the economy from going to a complete hell, made tons of all kinds of changes, and, touch wood, kept America safe at least one month more than what’s-his-name.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:20 pmHAHAHHAHA! Rightwingnut heads are exploding everywhere.

October 6th, 2009 at 2:27 pmThe election of Obama is a great thing for our country, in that it shows that a non-white as well as a person from humble origins can rise to the highest office in the land.
Of course, the repiggies will beshite themselves over this, but who cares?

October 6th, 2009 at 2:39 pmObama has made amazing progress is regaining our status in the world after the horrid, destructive, despised Bush administration, whose foreign policies helped make everything in the world worse for their presence.
Great Job Barack!!
October 6th, 2009 at 2:40 pmThis is a remarkable transformation of opinion world wide.
The toughest part of ‘being #1 is staying there.
America has a huge amount of work to do. Republics’ mission is straightforward enough; oppose, block, lie and defeat any meaningful social reform. You name the topic, this will not change anytime soon.
OTOH, it appears the rest of the planet sees through the sham of the Republic Party as easily as we progressives do. Global news cycles and blogging carry instantaneous input to anyone with an interest in following our political challenges.
My point?
Even Republics are beginning to realize it’s a fool’s game to denounce and resist reform that’s obviously of social benefit.
The ball’s in your court, Republics…let’s play oddball!

This is really funny because the Republicans brought this on themselves.
Republicans screamed that Obama is a Muslim so loudly that hundreds of millions of Muslims heard it, and some of them believe it. Now, Muslims generally like Obama a lot better than they liked Bush.
Republicans screamed that Obama might have been born in Kenya so loudly, that millions of Africans heard it, and some of them believe it. Now, Africans generally like Obama a lot better than they liked Bush.
Republicans are hated world wide for their fascist ways and the world is very happy that Americans have been able to kick them out of power. We must continue to purge Republicans from all levels of our government lest they continue to drag down the reputation of the United States of America.

Again, Obama is just trying to clean up the mess much the same way as Clinton had to clean up a mess, but this time, the mess is even bigger.

I don’t know which is more pathetic — that you are perpetuating a debunked urban legend (check out http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/memorial.asp ), that you are apparently presenting this drivel as your own words (since you aren’t crediting any other source for it), or that even if this fairy tale really was true you appear to be blaming President Obama for it (need I remind you that the WWII memorial was built and dedicated before he became President?).

October 6th, 2009 at 3:58 pmSpeaking as someone who lives outside the U.S., I can only reiterate how depressing it was to look on during the Bush/Cheney years to see a country going from respected to despised. Obama (and his family, to give full credit) have restored intelligence, integrity, & a spirit of cooperation that Bush/Cheney never had. While all Americans should be proud, even joyful about this, hateful conservatives & Repubs continue to show us the dark, negative side of America– wanting the President to fail, cheering when the U.S. loses an Olympics bid, using blatantly racist slogans & posters, etc. While we realize this is a small (& growing smaller) radical extremist group, it is unfortunate that they get so much airtime & publicity on U.S. media outlets, which, ironically, the propagandist right-wingers continually blast as being “liberal”, which the outlets certainly are not. Apparently the shrieky wheels still gets the grease.

Conservatives are ALWAYS very troubled about debt when Democrats are controlling the White House. In 1993, after staring off into space for 12 years while Reagan and Bush tripled the deficit and the debt, they suddenly became “deficit hawks.” In 2009, after staring off into space for 8 years while Bush took a surplus and turned it into the biggest deficit in history, they’ve suddenly found their voice again on deficits.
Why does anyone even listen to them? They’re complete B.S.

Crazy Legs says:
On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the
words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor:
Yesterday, December 7, 1941– a date which will live in infamy–the
United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.
One elderly woman read the words aloud:
‘With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph.’
But as she read, she was suddenly turned angry. ‘Wait a minute,’ she said, ‘they left out the end of the quote. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended the message with ’so help us God.’
Thanks, obama, you pos!
Interesting.
You should check your facts before rushing here to complain about that astounding email your grandma forwarded to you. I mean, unless you really enjoy humiliation. As a side note, the email in question stated the WWII memorial is in Arlington; it is not, it’s on the D.C. mall.

October 6th, 2009 at 4:19 pmIt’s not that Obama IS President,
it’s that a ridiculous sockpuppet of the radical right IS NOT.
October 6th, 2009 at 4:32 pmI hate to tell you this, but that makes no sense at all. Why would the world begin to respect us again if President Obama was telling everyone we are bad?
Do you always talk complete nonsense in your everyday life? Do your friends and family often complain that you are incoherent?
October 6th, 2009 at 4:45 pmStop listening to that massive heart attack waiting to happen, con guy.
As you know, we’re extremely desperate to force our depiction of dems as anti-American, and it doesn’t jibe with history and reality. In fact, we put country over party and act as if we’re the grand exception to the rule, sticking our head up in the air, snobbishly expecting to go unscathed.
Too bad, so sad. The left gets to rub the now-infamous right-wing celebration of being voted off the Olympics in our faces every time we try to beat that mythical “anti-America” dead horse (and trust us, we will force-feed that myth down voters’ throats; we ain’t never gonna stop).
October 6th, 2009 at 4:55 pmSome republicans use words like “messiah,” “rockstar,” “Hollywood,” etc. as a means to delegitimize President Obama, but look where it has gotten them.
It always amuses me that the party of God is so willing to pimp Jesus’ name out and assign it to a mere human.
I’ve never heard or read of any progressive/liberal/democrat using these terms when referring to the president.
This is one more sign of that alternate reality that republicans inhabit if they think Obama is the “messiah,” a “rock star,” “Hollywood,” etc.
Their name-calling and infantile behavior is all that’s left in their political arsenal. If they had anything substantive in their arsenal, they’d use it.
October 6th, 2009 at 4:57 pmconservative guy says:
Must have been Obamas I hate America tour that got us ranked #1.
Could you link me to some video of the things you say he said? Thanks.

You do KNOW that will never happen right?
October 6th, 2009 at 5:45 pmMr.Duke says:
Obama has been in office for 9 months and the Fed printing press has been working overtime. Flooding the world with dollars. Nice economic policy. Print paper money out of thin air. The rest of the world knows this is bad policy. No change.
Where in the hell do you think those dollars came from when we went looking for WMD’s that don’t exist? Bush racked up most of the deficit with spending and tax cuts. To top all of that, he left us with a major recession that almost was a depression. The dollar was falling since Bush took office.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:01 pmIt was the neo-cons who came up with the phrase “We create our own reality.” wasn’t it? Reality isn’t something we get to create, it’s something we discover. There’s a name for the condition that causes people to “create their own reality” it’s called schizophrenia. There is no point in arguing with these people because their minds don’t operate on fact based reality. They’re nuts plain and simple. Trying to debate someone who uses the mantra “Country First” then cheers when their country loses the Olympics is like debating with a brick wall. I can’t wait to hear how the neo-cons spin the worlds admiration for our country as a bad thing.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:06 pmDon’t worry conservatives. We progressives will advocate for you to receive quality psychiatric treatment and not leave you to beg on the streets like your Republican leaders would.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:11 pmJust like the slow cleanup after Katrina hit Louisiana, you gotta sweep out the mud and the floodwaters– watching out for those water moccasins while doing so— put the water soaked furniture on the curb to be hauled away. You have to air out the wet wood and tear down what isn’t structurally sound anymore. Piece by piece you have to rebuilt the home. Replace the doors that have come off the hinges and say goodbye to things that weren’t working for you anymore anyway.
And then you can rebuild your home and restore your good name. It takes some time. But it is well worth the effort.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:27 pmSomewhere Dick Cheney is struggling to pull up his pants while trying not to trip over Jeff Gannon on his way to the phone. He needs to get his fat white @ss over to FAUX News and CNN ASAP! Gotta tell the world that Obama is making us less safe! Quick, someone get a hold of Dick’s daughter too. I think she was over John Bolton’s place getting a mustache ride.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:28 pmDON’T PANIC: Your popcorn is not popping spontaneously. That sound is Reichwhiner heads exploding all across America.
October 6th, 2009 at 7:14 pmWhat the GOP REALLY means … says:
Mr.Duke says:
More debt, awesome.
More obligations the government has no choice but to meet, thanks to the mess we left behind.
awesome.
That is B.S.

And Obama is ready to ramp up the war in Afghanistan.
October 6th, 2009 at 7:53 pmObama has been in office for 9 months, there has been zero “change”. It was a bogus campaign slogan to get fools to buy into his nonsense. He is a phony empty suit. If he continues on his current military and economic pace he will be out of office in 2012.

Obama has not committed the US to any major long term increase in troops for Afghanistan. Gitmo is still closing and we are leaving Iraq after 8 years and a couple trillion that Bush spent. The economy is starting to turn around. In light of the current crop of Republicans, I see a landslide win for Obama in 2012.
October 6th, 2009 at 8:08 pmI don’t think there will be another Republican President, Congress or Senate for a generation.
October 6th, 2009 at 8:14 pmOr as Glenn Beck would tell his FAUX Viewers:
But… But… But… This can’t be!! Wait a minute while I put some VIcks under my eyes….
Whaaaaaa!! Whaaaaaa!!! Mommy, our stupidity isn’t working!!! Whaaaaaaa!!
October 6th, 2009 at 8:16 pmSoon, Beck’s only sponsor will be Vick’s Vapor Rub.
October 6th, 2009 at 8:27 pmThe whole premise of this article is an effin’ joke. The world’s talking about dropping the dollar, and you drones on this site are defending this american idol “wordwide” poll that puts us back in first place! The band also kept playing as the Titanic sank.
October 6th, 2009 at 10:20 pmIf you think it’s bad that the world is talking about dropping the dollar, then maybe you shouldn’t vote for Republicans. The state of the dollar is a direct result of Republican fiscal conservatism.
October 6th, 2009 at 10:30 pmYeah, we’re great: no punishment for torture and murder, still occupying other countries and bombing innocent civilians, imprisonment of innocent people, citizens dying for lack of healthcare while our leaders whine about bipartisanship, tanking the world’s economy. Go Murika!
October 6th, 2009 at 11:18 pmObama-that’s the guy who’s being kicked around as an abject failure here.
October 7th, 2009 at 7:41 amWell Done Mr. President !!! Keep up the great work!! GOD BLESS his wonderful family.
October 7th, 2009 at 10:19 ambaker56 says:
The world’s talking about dropping the dollar…
Not so much. The dollar has only dropped a slight amount compared to how much it dropped under Bush. And that was only a slight trace amount compared to how much it dropped under Reagan. The recent decrease is within the realm of normal statistical fluctuation, at least the amount that would be expected since Iran decided to dump their U.S. currency holdings last month.
October 7th, 2009 at 11:55 amDuke
No it is NOT BS. You are just too stupid and brainwashed to even recognize reality
October 8th, 2009 at 10:59 amThe Liberty Handbook says:
And now you’re telling me that we’re the most admired country because of Barrack Obama? Why don’t you people get your story straight.
You are really VERY stupid. We ARE the most admired country, it just wasn’t enough to get us the Olympics for a third time in just 16 years. We got the Winter Olympics too! That was like 5 mins ago. We got the World Cup for football in 1994.
But basically, where does it say that the most admired country automatically gets all it wants, including the Olympics? If we would get all we wanted, all the crazy repuKKKes would be in some rundown hospital, being refused health care because of ‘pre-existing condition’ …….
October 11th, 2009 at 6:36 amThank you for your sharing.!
October 11th, 2009 at 5:04 pmThe Bush crime syndicate was the worst administration this country has ever seen. And our position in the world suffered mightily for its act–wars, economy, and general arrogant saber rattling. lazer epilasyon
