On Monday, during his Fox Business Network debut, Don Imus hosted Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who tweeted that it was “great to be back on with Don Imus again.” Contemplating the prospects for Imus’ return to boost the Fox network, the Daily Beast’s Lloyd Grove writes today about an exchange between Imus and McCain, in which McCain laughed at an Imus joke comparing President Obama to the 9/11 attacks:
“Ha ha,” she added dryly, when I told her that Imus, in a discussion with another first-day guest, Sen. John McCain, repeated a “joke” that after 9/11 “President Obama was the second attack on America.” (McCain, on the phone, laughed more heartily.)
After McCain laughed at the joke, Imus attempted to distance himself from the comparison, calling it “an idiotic thing to say.” Watch it:
Transcript:
MCCAIN: Well, you’ve got to hand it to our law enforcement and homeland security people that they’ve been finding out about these plots, several of them before they’ve been able to act. I think we ought to give them some credit. And maybe we might give George Bush a little credit for the fact that we’ve not had another attack on the United States since 9/11. We blame him for everything else. HahahahaIMUS: Somebody told me, somebody told me off the record — well, they didn’t tell me off the record. They just, I just couldn’t use their name, but they said — we’re talking about why there’d been no second attack — and they said they thought President Obama was the second attack.
MCCAIN: Hehe.
IMUS: That was an idiotic thing to say.
IMUS: That was an idiotic thing to say.
________
McCain? Saying something idiotic?
Naaaaaaaaaaaaaah… never…
October 7th, 2009 at 1:34 pmInteresting… JOhn McCain now recognizes that it’s law enforcement that has stopped these attacks, not military action.
I seem to remember a presidential candidate making that case in 2004 and getting ridiculed by the Right for it…
And perhaps someone should point out to Grampy when he’s trying to solicit “credit” for George Bush in keeping America safe… Barack Obama has kept the nation safe longer than George Bush did at the start of his term.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:35 pmHow ironic that that 9-11 attack probably wouldn’t have taken place if conservatives hadn’t stole the election for Bush.
If the guy who actually won took office, I’m guessing he would have placed more emphasis on terrorism than the zero amount the Bush administration put into it for their first 9 months. And, I’m guessing that a President Gore would have implemented the suggestions from his own “Gore Commission” rather than ignoring them as Bush and Cheney did. Any one of those Gore Commission suggestions might have prevented the attack.
Conservatives, you really screwed this country up good.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:35 pmImus used that same cop out for years: saying it was and idiotic thing to say, after saying it doesn’t make it go away.
And Grampy, If bush gets credit for us not being attacked again after 9-11, he gets credit for us being attacked on 9-11…And Obama now has a better record on keeping us safe than bush does.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:35 pmWho is the biggest joke here, Don Imus or John McCain?

Who is the biggest joke here, Don Imus or John McCain?
You’re comparing a$$holes to orifices here. They’re both jokes, in their own catagories. Imus is an over the hill shock jock who thinks he’s hip because he still does Nixon bits. McCain is an over the hill pol who has become a mavericky mockery of what he wanted us to think he was.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:41 pmOh, that was a quick moderation, thanks!
October 7th, 2009 at 1:41 pm.
… Because deep down inside, (R)epublicans dream of that second wave.
.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:46 pmIn his continued campaign for relevance, John McCain will laugh at, laugh with, and deny hearing any joke, comment or quote all in the same sentence.
The consummate Republican
October 7th, 2009 at 1:46 pmAfter McCain laughed at the joke, Imus attempted to distance himself from the comparison, calling it “an idiotic thing to say”
– - That Don Rickles method doesn’t work so well when comparing the murder of 3000 Americans to an elected President.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:47 pmIt’s refreshing to see bigots interviewing bigots on a bigot network put on the air for bigots…At least they’re keeping it in the family..it also says we can TURN THEM OFF any time we like….
A M F!!!!
October 7th, 2009 at 1:48 pmLeave it to FOX to continue broadcasting a living corpse like Imus.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:49 pmThat’s what qualifies for ‘humor’ for a rightie. Especially one who works for Murdoch.
“What we have done in Iraq — Iraq no longer poses a threat to the United States of America,” said McCain (on Imus’s show).
Just what we need, another outlet that will allow the liars to spout more uncontested lies!
October 7th, 2009 at 1:49 pmTwo a$$h0les walk into a bar. The bartender says where did you get that?
They both say at the same time, “ClusterFox nOoze. They are everywhere over there.”

R E M E M B E R:
As of October 7, 2009, President Barack Obama has kept America safer than one George W. BushCo did during the same comparable time period.
As of October 7, 2008, President Barack Obama has seen less Americans die on American soil than one George W. BushCo did during the same comparable time period.
Facts that McCrazy refuses to acknowledge.

October 7th, 2009 at 1:51 pmYou can be funny or you can be a conservative. You can’t be both.
Proof.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:54 pmOnly on Fox.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:55 pmIMUS: That was an idiotic thing to say.
– - Prepare to use that phrase ad nauseum if you ever get Palin on your show, Don.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:55 pmThe coolest thing about Imus is that fancy cowboy outfit he likes to dress up in. It’s similar to a Halloween costume I used to wear when I was in grammar school.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:56 pmfox = POTTERS FIELD
October 7th, 2009 at 1:58 pm…and be sure to stayed tuned for the next edition of “Those Darn Klansmen! …with your host Don Imus, and today’s special guest…Jon McCain!”
And just so they don’t sue me, I will add that “that was an idiotic thing for me to say.” There, that makes it all better, doesn’t it, Mr. Imus.
October 7th, 2009 at 1:58 pmI’m just waiting for Imus to use “nappy headed hos” again.
But Fox wouldn’t drop him for that, it’s the kind of insult repukes approve of.
October 7th, 2009 at 2:02 pmYou know, if McCain wears his military uniform and Beck comes in dressed as a fireman, those guys could get together with Imus in his cowboy costume and put together another Village People!
October 7th, 2009 at 2:06 pmAcclowns of the Week #78: Nattering Nabobs of Negativism edition is just up and still steaming. On the spit this week:
Right wing stooge Dan Riehl
Birther Orly Taitz
John “Trog” Derbyshire
Armchair General John L. Perkins
American Private Police Force
and much, much more!
Looks like Imus gave me a jump start on next week’s list.
October 7th, 2009 at 2:07 pmBush should get credit for McCain never becoming president.
October 7th, 2009 at 2:08 pmIs Rootin Tootin Cowboy Don going to agree with Derbyshire that our biggest mistake was giving women the right to vote?

Is Rootin Tootin Cowboy Don going to agree with Derbyshire that our biggest mistake was giving women the right to vote?
– - Yep, especially the nappy-headed ones.
October 7th, 2009 at 2:12 pmMCCAIN: And maybe we might give George Bush a little credit for the fact that we’ve not had another attack on the United States since 9/11.
Sure , McCrappyPilot ; so long as you and your equally dishonest and ignorant GOP brethren acknowledge Bush WAS RESPONSIBLE for allowing 9/11 to occur , along with being the worst president in US history …………

Two racist old men yelling at the clouds. Imus kicked off a reputable network for bigotry, hired by a fake network. McSame rejected by the American people still trying to act relevant.
October 7th, 2009 at 2:26 pmThose are two nappy headed, racist, old codgers!
October 7th, 2009 at 2:28 pmMcInsane doesn’t realize he is the real joke
October 7th, 2009 at 2:29 pm“What we have done in Iraq — Iraq no longer poses a threat to the United States of America,” said McCain (on Imus’s show).
Iraq never posed a threat to the USA. The war was totally unnecessary, unlawful, and immoral. The liars like McSame are accomplices to war crimes. To say that Iraq was a threat is just an outright lie.
October 7th, 2009 at 2:38 pmEverybody knows that Don Imus is racist and hates African Americans. That’s why they kicked him off the air a few years ago. I’m surpised they allowed him to return. And now we have to listen to his racist jokes again.
October 7th, 2009 at 2:44 pmKasinca: “To say that Iraq was a threat is just an outright lie.”
Lies are all they have anymore. The facts are not their friend.

“President Obama was the second attack on America.”
Actually, it’s not funny. Imus is right.
your are right it`s not funny and he should have never brough it up as well.
October 7th, 2009 at 3:10 pmLady Edith Hasselhoff says:
To all TP commentators,
I’m going to each post and appealing to one and all to protest Crazy Legs’ comment number 158 in the “Bachmann: ‘I have no reason to doubt that [Obama] wasn’t born in the United States.’” post. He’s gone and used the “c” word again and I really think he should be flagged for it. His comment should be scrubbed and he himself should be banned. This is way over the line.
Thank you.
PS – ralph the wonder llama has graciously agreed to join the campaign.
I`m in as well.
October 7th, 2009 at 3:14 pmDitto, I’m going to e-mail TP and ask to have crazy legs banned.
October 7th, 2009 at 3:22 pmHe contributes nothing but foul commentary.
Crazy Legs should have been banned a long time ago.
October 7th, 2009 at 3:27 pmdelafield @36 – I really don’t think Don Imus hates African-Americans. There is a decent side to him where his ranch is concerned. I’ve followed the growth of it for years and have even made donations. He has terminally ill children and family members from all races and walks of life and he and wife Deidre and their crew are wonderful to them. He’s raised millions of dollars for very good causes, including the Intrepid Fund and the new military hospital in Texas, so we should give credit where it is due.
On the other hand, what we have is what someone else said – an old shockjock – and when he gets the microphone in front of him, all common sense goes out the window and stupidity kicks in, especially when he’s got someone like McCain to rant with. I’ve watched him interview many good people through the years and he does have spells where he can talk decently, sanely, and with reasonable knowledge on the subject at hand.
That said – I can see why Patrick wasn’t pleased with him on RFD-TV, that isn’t a venue to tolerate Imus’ grumpy old man attitude. He will fit in fine with Fox and they’ll let him say anything. Personally, I think he ought to pack it up and just spend his last years tending to the kids with cancer.
October 7th, 2009 at 3:30 pmhow long will it be before don slimeus calls the obamas a “bunch of nappy headed ho’s” thus getting tossed off the FBN and giving it’s two viewers a case of the sads?
October 7th, 2009 at 3:32 pmCrazy person: “Progressive hypocrisy knows NO bounds. With proof!”
Translation: “Whaaaaa, sniff, sob, choke, they’re… not… going to take, sniff, sob, my…. crap anymore! Blubber”
October 7th, 2009 at 5:07 pmGreatGranny, I thank Don Imus for taking care of sick children, but the fact that he does that doesn’t automatically mean he isn’t a racist. Maybe he’s got a guilty conscience.
At any rate, you’re right. He should get a little slack just because he does that. I have to confess that I often forget that he does those things because he’s such a jackass.

I like the addition of the “with proof” thing. It is sort of amusing to me. As much as the weirdo has grown old, the sick nature of the endless cries for attention still intrigue me.
October 7th, 2009 at 5:40 pmHow come jeff boste never runs a pool of whose hat is more stupid? Imus or Drudge?
October 7th, 2009 at 5:42 pmWe have become a nation that can give a joke, but can’t take a joke.

October 7th, 2009 at 6:42 pm#3, Gore lost get over it.
October 7th, 2009 at 6:52 pmHi conservative guy.
October 7th, 2009 at 6:57 pmyou seem sort of goofy…Are you goofy?
Gore won. Those are the facts. The analysis of the Florida ballots proves that. The Supreme Court installed the wrong guy by judicial coup.
And that guy basically set the world and our economy on fire.
October 7th, 2009 at 7:04 pmconservative guy says:
#3, Gore lost get over it.
Mccain lost, get over it.
October 7th, 2009 at 8:13 pmWHO CARES! WHO CARES!
October 7th, 2009 at 8:42 pmTwo dinosaurs talking to one another. The only one who cares are other dinosaurs. Who really cares about McCain.
By the way the Cardinals suck along with the rest of their teams.
In no way is that funny! And I don’t mean just because it is disrespecful to those who lost their lives. I mean in no way is that funny! If a person laughs at such a thing, it could be due to totally irrational hatred of Obama. It could be due to a release of nervousness. But in absolutely no way does it fall under the heading of humor! These Republicans are some sick people and sore losers.
