Last night, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly discussed why she is “second to Sarah Palin in far-left angst,” setting off a conversation between the two about why Bachmann faces so much criticism from her colleagues and the press. Bachmann claimed she has “stalkers” at “a competing cable network,” presumably referring to MSNBC. (Note to Michele: O’Reilly is actually a stalker.) O’Reilly then offered his own explanation as to why Bachmann is criticized so much, contending that it’s because she’s so “good-looking”:
O’REILLY: Do you think — and this is an off-the-wall question. And I’m telling the audience that it’s just something that’s occurred to me. Both you and Sarah Palin are good-looking women. I mean, you’re attractive, young — relatively young — women who other women can identify with. You’re a mom, a wife. You had a private-sector job.
I think that’s it. I think that the success of Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann drive the far left crazy because you don’t fit — they don’t like what you believe in, but you can attract others to listen to you. I think that’s what’s going on.
Bachmann responded that she and Palin are pulling away votes from Democrats, “especially in a woman block — a middle America woman block.” Watch it:

Bachmann and Palin have a magnetic pull similar to that of a bad traffic accident. There’s something about it that makes you look, even though you know what you see will appall you.
This “attention” should in no way be confused with popularity, let alone support. And the idea that either of these women is “pulling away votes from Democrats”, especially “middle America” women, is pure fantasy and delusion. As a bona fide member of the middle America women group, I can assure everyone we’re not that stupid or gullible — at least most of us aren’t.
Gracie Allen “ran” for POTUS in 1940 as a publicity stunt for the George Burns and Gracie Allen radio show (on the “Surprise Party” ticket). Her campaign got a lot of attention (as it was supposed to) and entertained many. But even though she got some actual votes, nobody really seriously believed her to be qualified to be President.
The difference here is that Gracie knew very well that her role was that of comedienne and entertainer — not serious politician. Sarah and Michelle are essentially playing the same role, but they have deluded themselves into thinking it’s something else.

If you’re going to try to spout facts, at least get them right.
She only won RE-election once — in 2008. She was elected for the first time in 2006.
It’s also worth pointing out that her margin of victory was considerably less in 2008 than it was in 2006 — kind of unusual for an incumbent Congressperson. And she hadn’t even really been exposed as batsh!t crazy until Barack Obama was elected, so it will be interesting to see what 2010 brings.

And indeed, while all other prominent pollsters show the balance of approval/disapproval at between +8 and +17, Rasmussen has it at -3 and has for weeks.
Given that the President will not run for reelection for three more years, the insistence on LVs seems a bit of a gimmick intended to produce a desired result.

Corporations leave the country because they can better exploit the environment and workers not because they are overtaxed. Here’s a very useful website which includes information about contributions. It’s true that Bachmann currently has an advantage in contributions (although not so much more cash in hand), but the “out of state” story is bogus. Check out the chart. More of Bachmann’s money is coming from out of state than her opponent’s. Also check the chart on who is making those contributions. 20% of her contributions are from PACs. 99% of her opponent’s contributions are from individuals.

Evidence? I don’t have anything that shows at a glance the trend of the various poillsters, but if you follow that sort of thing, it’s clear that Rasmussen’s numbers are almost always the highest for Republicans and lowest for Democrats among snapshot polls. The link I gave you earlier is one example.
Not only is Ras the only pollster who has Obama at a negative approval/disapproval, it’s also the only one that has Republicans favored in the generic Congressional ballot. This bias is not always pronounced, and as elections near their results tend to trend closer to other pollsters. Whether this is an attempt to maintain credibility or simply the result of greater clarity among the electorate I can’t say. But it’s pretty clear that when Rasmussen is an outlier among polls, it almost always favors the Republican side.

AND, as I said before, the FLOOR of the Senate is much more open to the ‘public option’ and we only need 60 votes there for cloture… and then 51 votes to pass the Senate’s version.
And then the House version and the Senate version will be combined in a CONFERENCE COMMITTEE and then both houses will vote to approve the CONFERENCE COMMITTEE’s report and then THAT BILL will be sent to Obama to sign…

The CBO scored that MARK UP.
The CBO will also score AT LEAST three (3) versions of the HOUSE BILL.
The FINANCE COMMITTEE’s MARK UP will be combined with other MARK UP’s before a BILL is PRESENTED to the FLOOR of the SENATE for debate.
At that time it will require a vote of 60 SENATORS to cease debate (cloture)
Then it will require a vote of 51 SENATORS to PASS the final DRAFT of the SENATE BILL
Then it will go to a CONFERENCE COMMITTEE that will combine it with whatever BILL the HOUSE finally passes (unless they PASS the same BILL, which seems unlikely)
Then the CONFERENCE COMMITTEE will issue a report on the changes/compromises they made to come to the FINAL BILL.
Both HOUSES of CONGRESS will vote to APPROVE that REPORT and the FINAL BILL and then it will be sent to OBAMA’s desk (he’s the PRESIDENT and head of the EXECUTIVE BRANCH) for his signature and then it will become a LAW
