GOP congressional candidate pretends to shoot at Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

robertlowryThe Associated Press reports today that the South Florida-based Southeast Broward Republican Club held an event earlier this week at a gun range where targets included silhouettes of Muslim stereotypes and of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL). Among those who attended the event was real estate CEO Robert Lowry, who is vying to replace Wasserman Schultz in 2010:

South Florida Republicans held a weekly meeting at a gun range, shooting at targets including cut-outs of a Muslim holding a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.

The GOP candidate to replace U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz fired at a full-body silhouette with “DWS” written next to its head. [...]

Robert Lowry, who’s vying for Wasserman Schultz’s seat, initially described his target as a joke. Minutes later, he called it a mistake.

Others refused to apologized [sic] for the Southeast Broward Republican Club event, featuring assault rifles and handguns. A conservative activist said they should stand up for their beliefs in the heavily Democratic county.

Commenting on the event, Broward Palm Beach News Blog writes, “OK, so I suppose that target isn’t too offensive. Clearly, it’s a terrorist. That is, a religious radical who truly hates his political opponents, who arms himself to the teeth, and who uses violence as a means of achieving political ends. It’s just that in America, the Republicans have also been the religious radicals, the most hateful toward their opponents, and the most eager to use guns. So you all should be careful gunning down terrorists — you might hit one of your own.”

Update Rep. Wasserman Schultz issued this statement:

There is nothing light or funny about pretending to shoot someone. At a time in our country when people are bringing guns to Town Hall Meetings and a preacher is calling for the death of our President, I find this type of action serious and disturbing. Tonight I am going to have to talk to my young children about why someone is pretending to shoot their mother. Trivializing violent behavior is the kind of extreme view that has no place in American politics.

Republicans seem to have a lot of those incidents, don’t they? Y’know… first it was a “joke” then it was a “mistake”…

it’s almost like they have no ability to be funny.

If he is Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s opponent next year, he is the clown that will lose to her by a landslide.

I don’t think they should apologize. Everyone needs to know just what kind of scum they are.

Well one thing for sure is that you are a Mistake by your parents. And unlike your side doing the right thing or trying is not a joke.

So lets place a target of you there and shoot it i bet you have a great laugh at that. you better hope no one takes a shot at her. as they would not have to go to far out who the joker is.

  13. Virtual Pebble says:

Why hell yes, they should stand up for their beliefs, and if those beliefs include the murder of an elected official, maybe they ought to be willing to do a little time for conspiracy to murder or incitement or such.

It doesn’t do any good to ask if they have any decency. They clearly don’t. It’s stupid adolescent behaviour, they’ve no regard for the consequences of their encouraging words and actions, so they have to be called out. If they can’t bring themselves to stop, and criminal law can’t be invoked, perhaps a civil suit would get their attention.

  14. paleolib says:

If the belief for which you feel the need to stand up involves miming the assasination of political rivals you may wish to find somewhere else to live. Taliban-controlled regions of Pakistan for example. I assume this moron is running as a vanity project so he can get his name in the news a few times next fall. Then he can go back to his country club with DWS’s footprints stomped all over his a$$.

  16. P.D. says:

I think what is happening is that these guys can’t stand women in power. Just the last few days Pelosi was insulted, Limpballs practically threw a fit about Sebilus, Madeline Albright had her looks disparged, and Billo told Bachman that the ‘Lefties’ are jealous of her looks. These guys won’t be satified until they insult every woman on the planet.

    _________

I actually ran into this exact situation last night at another website, ralphie.

A right winger had posted a self-penned “essay” deriding ‘bitter, shrill Democrats” and asked why can’t lefties be pleasant, entertaining clowns like Al Franken. Not that Franken exhibits any true intelligence or worthy insights… just that he’s… well… entertaining.

One of the people who commented tried to come up with a list of funny conservative comedians…

He never got past Dennis Miller… and then proceeded to wonder why so many comedians are liberals…

    This is all true…

The person who posted the thread finished up decrying all the “tirades and invective” coming from: “the silly fairies and the tree-hugging environmentalists”, complaining about“the King of the Idiot Clowns, Obama” and ended up describing Franken as having a face “wrinkled like one of those wrinkly dog’s butt…”.

They’re TOTALLY destroying Irony and Satire

Women in power frighten them; women in power are not under the control of their men; women belong in the house, performing domestic chores for their men; women belong in the bed of their men, but when those men want anything kinky, they seek it outside of their marriage to those “pure” women.
They try to disguise their hatred of women by declaring their oppressive attitude toward women as protecting them, but it is obvious to even a casual observer that it is not paternalistic protection, it is authoritative subjugation.

And when they “go after” the accomplished women, it’s generally to make some negative comment about their looks. And when they praise Bachmann and Palin, that praise often has to do with their looks.

In other words, in the minds of these neanderthals, the only thing that matters about a woman is her looks. This should be offensive to any woman with an IQ higher than that of a head of cabbage.

OTOH, this dipshit Lowry, who looks like a used car salesman, is like Becky, searching for headlines. He should have to crawl through a live fire exercise like we did in the Marines, where if you don’t keep your ass down, you’ll be spending some time in hospital.

GOP congressional candidate pretends to shoot at Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Oh, the outrage. Did you feel the same way in 2006?

Death of a President (2006), directed by Gabriel Range, is a British fictional documentary about the assassination of George W. Bush, the 43rd U.S. President, on 19 October 2007, in Chicago. By means of archival film footage, actors, and computer-generated special effects, the assassination is the thematic beginning of serious discussions about civil disobedience, racial profiling, the U.S. Government’s reduction of the civil liberties of its populace, news sensationalism as agitational propaganda, and the theory of Just War.

The premiere showing was at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival on 10 September 2006, and in the UK, it was broadcast on More4 on 9 October, then on Channel 4 on 19 October 2006 — a year to the day before the assassination date in the film. It was broadcast in Finland on 18 October 2007 — the assassination date’s eve. In Japan, despite governmental interference, the film was exhibited in cinemas on 6 October 2007.

Newmarket paid one million dollars for the U.S. distribution rights the total production budget for the film was two million dollars. The film showed in theaters for 14 days, its widest release was 143 theaters, and worldwide it grossed $869,352.

Did you feel the same outrage?
