Since Rush Limbaugh came out and expressed interest in buying the St. Louis Rams, black NFL players have let it be known that they would never play for a team owned by the hate radio host. “He’s a jerk. … He could offer me whatever he wanted, I wouldn’t play for him,” said New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott. Now, NFL Players executive director DeMaurice Smith is also opposing Limbaugh’s bid. In an e-mail to the union’s executive committee yesterday, Smith wrote:
I’ve spoken to the Commissioner [Roger Goodell] and I understand that this ownership consideration is in the early stages. But sport in America is at its best when it unifies, gives all of us reason to cheer, and when it transcends. Our sport does exactly that when it overcomes division and rejects discrimination and hatred. [...]
I have asked our players to embrace their roles not only in the game of football but also as players and partners in the business of the NFL,” said Smith in the e-mail. “They risk everything to play this game, they understand that risk and they live with that risk and its consequences for the rest of their life. We also know that there is an ugly part of history and we will not risk going backwards, giving up, giving in or lying down to it.
Our men are strong and proud sons, fathers, spouses and I am proud when they stand up, understand this is their profession and speak with candor and blunt honesty about how they feel.
In 2003, ESPN fired Limbaugh from Sunday NFL Countdown for saying that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because the “media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well.”
Limbaugh seems more like a synchronized swim team owner
October 11th, 2009 at 3:19 pm“Head of NFL players union opposes Limbaugh’s bid: Sports are meant to reject ‘discrimination and hatred.’”
When I heard that Boss Limbaugh expressed interest of buying the Rams, I had to wonder what bad pain killer did he take. Having Limbaugh buy any football team which have predominently African-American players is like having the KKK buy a football team. This would put a black eye on the NFL franchise if EL Rushbo brought the Rams.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:20 pmOops, no corporate box seat for the blob.
The beer and hot dog concession will just have to make do with normal sales.
It’s just as well, nobody wants a pig at a ball game.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:21 pmJust wait. Rush’s deal to buy the Rams will fall through, and Obama will get the blame.

Except maybe Arkansas.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:22 pmGolly, I hope b-cup’s Sunday isn’t so busy that he can’t stop by and explain why Limbaugh is not a racist and perhaps the NFLPA are being racially divisive with this stance.
After all, when Limbaugh told an African-American caller to “take the bone out of his nose”, he was just “commenting on race”.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:25 pmHead of NFL players union opposes Limbaugh’s bid {to buy the Rams}: Sports are meant to reject ‘discrimination and hatred.’
– - As if I needed another reason to hate the Rams. There’ll be a lockout next year anyway so this issue will be pushed down the road.
I’m sure plenty of owners have racist tendencies. The only difference is that Rush’s feelings are on the record.

(R)ush for Team Bigot!

October 11th, 2009 at 3:30 pmit would be a real hoot if after tub-o-lard shelled out all that dough and bought the team, the entire team walked out on his fat ass.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:31 pmRush couldn’t even pass the NFL’s drug abuse policy.

October 11th, 2009 at 3:32 pmRush Limbaugh came out and expressed interest in buying the St. Louis Rams
October 11th, 2009 at 3:34 pm– - I’m thinking, perfect, an NFL owner who can compete with his players for abuse of prescription drugs.
The team should buy Limbaugh and use him as a practice dummy.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:34 pmRush just wants a bevy of team doctors to shop from.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:37 pmBadmoodman says:
I’m sure plenty of owners have racist tendencies. The only difference is that Rush’s feelings are on the record.
Rush will say that he was only joking.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:37 pmLimbaugh so rightfully chided Obami for dismantling the institutions this country was founded on, or something to that effect. And yet El Rushbo doesn’t feel hampered in his bid for a team or any other business. Free enterprise is dead for everyone but Limp, I suppose.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:37 pmThrow in some Dominican boys to seal the deal.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:38 pmLimpballs has so thoroughly immersed himself in white-wing racism that it will be a monumental task for any team he would own to keep non-white players.
Limpballs has catered to the stereotypical dumb white bozo who hates anyone non-white.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:42 pmThis is great news…
After Limberger’s ego gets back into shape after finding out he can’t change the symbol on the St. Louis Cards helmets to a burning cross, and that they refused to wear white hoods under their helmets, he’ll go on a two-week rant about his being singled out for discrimination…..
What joke this lump is…
October 11th, 2009 at 3:42 pmYou folks are thinking the wrong way about Rush. He thought that, by buying the team, he was actually buying the players. He figured that this would be an end run around the 13th Amendment and that he could treat his black players like the slaves he wishes he could own.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:43 pmHe also fantasizes about hanging around the locker room ogling his big, strapping athletes and ordering them to do nasty things to him.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:46 pmAw damn. Kentucky vs Texas Western was before my time. I was really hoping to see round 2. Sigh.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:53 pmThe last time I watched an NFL game was pretty close to the last time I listened to Limbaugh on the radio — 1995, give or take a year or two — and my interest in both continues to remain on the wane up to and through this very day. Still, it’s nice to read that a fat, white boy, loudmouth racist bigot druggie from the Mo Boot heel outrages almost everyone in the country save for the nation’s fat, white boy, loudmouth racist bigot druggie population. Maybe things aren’t quite so bad out there as Fux News would have us believe.

October 11th, 2009 at 4:08 pmHope.
This.

Any white player would be crazy to play for him. I wouldn’t want to get traded to a regular team after agreeing to play for the racist. I’d bet the only players he could get would be those not good enough to get picked up by anybody else.
October 11th, 2009 at 4:18 pmRush can be the Marge Schott of footbal.
October 11th, 2009 at 4:19 pmOh, and by the way?
CL gone is a very nice thing.
But I’m sure it won’t last.
October 11th, 2009 at 4:24 pmI think Limbaugh should be allowed to buy the team, but only if he can play one full game on the team. Think body slams.
October 11th, 2009 at 4:38 pmI’ve got to admit, he couldn’t have picked a more appropriate
team.
After all, his dittoheads are the perfect sheeple.

October 11th, 2009 at 5:02 pmAre you being intentionally disingenuous?
Juan, do you believe that Rush is racist? Do you believe that his comments were warranted? Is owning an NFL franchise a ‘right?’
All these are questions I have… can you answer?
October 11th, 2009 at 5:03 pmHow soon I forget….
October 11th, 2009 at 5:03 pm–
So when did you know? What event triggered your loss of memory? What recent event convinced you you had forgotten?
After what is happening to Glenn Beck and his former sponsors, the NFL ..or any national sports Franchise…wouldn’t touch Rush with a 10 foot pole.
In addition to being a great example of racial Harmony, Professional Sports Teams exist to make $$$.
October 11th, 2009 at 5:07 pmThe NFL is in the tank for Obami!
October 11th, 2009 at 5:12 pmI get the feeling that our friend Juan here isn’t going to answer any of our questions.
October 11th, 2009 at 5:12 pmIt would be horrible for the city of St Louis when all the players refuse to play. Of course the upside would be that Rush would waste his money. This deal was dead 5 minutes after it was announced.

lol – last night I was watching a bit of a program in which researchers were lowering themselves down into the Grand Canyon and explaining how many million years old the different layers were. How can anyone who has half a brain cell actually believe the 6,000 year theory? Crazy, and kind of scary.
October 11th, 2009 at 5:57 pmI must agree with Badmoodman who said that there are probably plenty owners out there with racist tendencies. But Rush has made himself not only quite clear about his racism but also seems to wallow in it.

October 11th, 2009 at 6:57 pm‘Sports are meant to reject ‘discrimination and hatred.’
October 11th, 2009 at 6:58 pmWell, that sure as hell eliminates Limbaugh from ANYTHING to do with sports. On the other hand, look at that big, fat, balloon of a hateful, racist man. Has he EVER participated in sports? Does he know what sports are? What sports promotes? Limbaugh has no clue whatsoever. His whole life revolves around, lies, hate, racism, sexism, & more lies. He is the blimp of hatred, sexism & racism. If he wants to be a benefactor for skinheads, Naziism, or cults, maybe I could understand. But he has no right to become involved in activities that promote equality & understanding.
Poor, poor Rush. The NFL players don’t want him, and soon the NFL owners are going to say, no way in hell are we letting this racist in.
Whats a fat drug induced racist going to do? All his money can’t buy him a NFL football team. Boo Hoo…
October 11th, 2009 at 7:06 pmActually, I don’t begrudge Limpo for this move.
It’s his coin, and he can damn spend it as he pleases to make himself look more stupid if he wants.
As the article notes, already there are players who wouldn’t play under Limpo’s ownership.
If people want to go see the games, fine with me.
If Limpo sez anything stupid, which he does regularly, people could boycott his toy.
I am rooting for Limpo. Go HOGGS!

Of course it was. By his stats alone McNabb was clearly one of the best QBs in the league and Sir Oxymoron saying he ONLY got the attention only because he was black was flat out racist. He was illogically diminshing his accomplishments because of his race. What is it with people who just appologize for racism and refuse to see clear racism?

October 11th, 2009 at 7:30 pmAaron K, there is a difference between working with someone who was ranting (according to the white cop) while drunk (who later apologized). and working FOR someone who is admittedly racist and makes his living spewing hate. October 11th, 2009 at 7:48 pmThe NFL represents hard core Americana. Linbaugh’s money can’t buy the status of owning a NFL team (he be a real man). All the money he owns can’t buy the very thing he desperately seeks, status.
Linbaugh’s ego is crushed and all his money is worthless. These are two most important things in Linbaugh’s life.
Isn’t this ironic?

McNabb in 2003:
Led an undermanned offense to the NFC Championship ghame for the second year in a row.
Yeah, I’d say Top 5 quarterback.
Jason Campbell was the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins in 2006, 2007 and 2008. He is also African American.
I wonder how Limpballs explains his failure to achieve the notoriety and respect that McNabb enjoys? If McNabb’s success were due to his being a black quarterback, why wouldn’t Jason Campbell get the same treatment?
In 2003, Quincy Carter led the Dallas Cowboys to a playoff berth. Carter is African=American.
What is Limpball’s explanation for Carter’s failure to ignite the same kind of interest that McNabb has attracted during his career?
If McNabb’s success has truly been due to the media being “desirous that a black quarterback succeed” then why, alone among black quarterbacks in the NFL, has McNabb been favored with such acclaim?
October 11th, 2009 at 8:55 pmHe broke his ankle in 02 while EARLY in 03 he did start slowly over the second half of the season he had the highest QB rating in the NFL over 97. That with sub par for the NFL recievers. He threw for over 3000 yards that year and led the Eagles to the NFC championship game. ALL THAT HURT. Rush was full of it. He also RAN for over 600yrds in 00 and over 400 in 01 and 02 making him the best running QB in the NFL. Its BS. His stats were good enough for him to be a pro bowler in THREE SEASONS.

October 11th, 2009 at 10:00 pmMaybe Rush hasn’t admitted that he is a racist. But how many years was he on drugs before he admitted that? I never listen to him. thank jebus he isn’t on the radio in maine. But I hear enough about him to know that none of his writers are black. actually I wonder if he employes any minorities or gays? That would be a mildly interesting story TP could do, find out the demographics of his staff.
Did Rush start this interest in buying an NFL team JUST to hurt the republican image even more? if so he might just be the best democrat there is…
October 11th, 2009 at 10:07 pmWhy is this complex-ed dough-boy showing an interest in ownership of an NFL team? Doesn’t that Oxycontin-stewed brain realize that his “investment” would turn to dust as the players refuse to take part in his silly little game. Perhaps the noisome one wants to purge the NFL of black players and his ownership of the Saint Louis Rams could, in his demented view, be a start. Or just maybe he’d like to get up close and personal with men who aren’t limpballs in the locker room.
October 11th, 2009 at 10:10 pmLarry Septic. YOU are a liar. You lied in your first two words. You have never thought in your entire life. You flat out dont have the equipment.

BUNK his QB rating THIS year is 122. THAT is phenomenal. You are full of it. The guy is a great QB. Running QBs get hurt. Thats the way it goes. He PLAYS hurt. You are only showing your ignorance here. I always HATED Roger Stauback. Always thought he was a dick. I would NEVER have denied he was a great QB. Get over your obsessive need to make appologies for Limbaughs racism. You are making yourself look foolish
October 11th, 2009 at 10:20 pmI noticed aaronk skipped right past the question of why McNabb would be overrated because he’s a black quarterback but Quincy Carter wouldn’t.
October 11th, 2009 at 10:24 pmIt certainly wasn’t due to great receivers. McNabb has always been saddled with mediocre receivers and he still put up winning numbers. The one season he had a marquee wideout, he took the team to the Super Bowl.
Regardless, Limpballs didn’t just say McNabb was overrated — he said he was overrated because of HIS RACE.
October 11th, 2009 at 10:28 pmRalph I noticed that too. He hold NFL records for most consecutive complestion, third best TD to inteception ration of ALL TIME, Least intercepted QB per pass attempts of ALL TIME, He is one of only SIX QBs EVER to have 25,000 pass yards and 3,000 rushing yards. His hall of fame is assured. Aaron is full of it
October 11th, 2009 at 10:40 pmaaronk says:
McNabb’s success was due to a great defense.
—————————————————————-
Okay…I admit, you’re right. It’s the defense who throws all of the passes and catches all of the passes that go for touchdowns, rushes for touchdowns, leads the offense on scoring drives, blocks for the runners and the quarterback.
*Rolling Eyes*
October 11th, 2009 at 11:17 pmRush had a plan, a master plan, because of his impotence he couldn’t create a master race of his own so he wanted to create an all white pro football team to show President Obama what’s what.
His plan could of led to the creation of a few more new jobs for unemployed clan members. The new team name would be the St. Louis Clan…The bonfires and burning crosses the night before each game would be spectacular….
October 11th, 2009 at 11:24 pmRush won’t get the team. This is a publicity stunt. He knows that the very thought will outrage African-American players and Americans who hate bigotry, i.e., progressives. He is positively giddy that he’s stirred up progressive animosity while generating such publicity for himself.
Black players won’t play for any team Rush owns (again, Rush’s delusion that he might “own” blacks is reprehensible, not only to black players, but to the vast majority of Americans and sane people everywhere). White players are equally offended. Hard to imagine a quality player of any color or religion who would play under Rush’s ownership.
Any player who did sign on to a Rush-owned team would be stigmatized for life, not that they’d have much ability to play after their first season . . . talk about fired up . . . their opponents would be rabid. Ugly.

October 11th, 2009 at 11:32 pmStatistically, St. Louis is about 51.2% black or African American (http://saintlouis.areaconnect.com/statistics.htm), perhaps Rush should look to a different franchise . . .
Then again, he’s already disenfranchised most of America, he’s just drilling down. Heck Rush, why not double-down, put in a bid for the Saints. In New Orleans, you could wreak some major offense.
October 11th, 2009 at 11:43 pmSnoBird @ 127…I don’t know…the way things are going racially in this country today…plus I believe I read somewhere recently that 27 of the 32 NFL owners all give money to the republican party. In a normal world, this would be a no brainer….but….?
October 11th, 2009 at 11:54 pmI bet if the drugster’s group is turned down, he will spin this for all it’s worth as reverse racism, just watch.

Limbaugh seems more like a synchronized swim team owner
You think so? I always pictured him as the boys wrestling coach.
____________
Nooo… the wraslin’ coach was Denny Hastert.
But I have to say… the mere thought of Limbaugh in a pair of Speedos makes me wanna claw my own eyes out…
October 12th, 2009 at 12:08 amRush could start up a synchronized swim team in New Orleans! Brilliant!
October 12th, 2009 at 12:41 amThe mental image of Rush in a Borat style one-piece teaching young people of color ballet moves in pools outside the Superdome doesn’t just pull at my heart strings, it makes my eyes bleed.
Not only would that move save the NFL, next hurricane, he can belly flop into Lake Pontchartrain and the backwash will save the city . . . a win, win.

Seems hypocritic to single out Rush.
Good thing it’s not. At the very least, the Rams are trying to protect themselves from future lawsuits.

October 12th, 2009 at 1:08 amMr. Smith makes an excellent argument for not selling to Limpo.
At minimum, Limpo’s intentions and his exact standing as part owner should be examined and made clear; NFL doesn’t need a pervert clone of Marge-Schott-on-a-bad-day sitting in the driver’s seat.
October 12th, 2009 at 1:38 amI assume that this is the quote from the article that you reference:
“The suit alleged NBA Commissioner David Stern was present when Sterling allegedly said of Manning, “I’m offering a lot of money for a poor black kid.” That tone was echoed in another alleged incident in which Baylor claimed Sterling told him that “he [Sterling] wanted the Clippers team to be composed of ‘poor black boys from the South’ and a white head coach.” Another part of the lawsuit dealt with Baylor’s role in the organization. It alleged, as far back as 2004, Sterling and other club officials were employing “a campaign” to force Baylor into retirement — using “ageist comments” and “repeatedly hassling” him about quitting.”
Seems clear, sports franchises have a racial problem. That problem is not that black or minority interests might be sued, but that white ownership is a problem.
When cities pass bond issues to build new stadiums their citizens are unaware of the racism involved in their team ownership. When players take multimillion dollar contracts with the same owners, the consciously ignore the owners’ racial proclivities. Players make millions to be cheered on by working class minorities willing to pay top dollar to watch them play.
If black and minority players are in any way offended, let them speak. Seems more than a tad hypocritical that they only get jazzed when it’s Rush while they continue to enjoy all of the perks, and know that that same Rush is up in the owner’s box.
You guys are far richer than your fans. You actually do have a beef. Time to acknowledge it and address it. Otherwise, let Rush become your owner.
October 12th, 2009 at 1:40 amRush will probably fein outrage and claim reverse discrimination.
October 12th, 2009 at 2:08 amAgain.
Please don’t respond,
I find myself disillusioned that I speak out on behalf of Gay Lesbian rights on behalf of minority rights, I am neither, and the response is luke-warm to dead on arrival.
I honestly believe in the causes for which I advocate . . . yet the response is lame to none
Why don’t black atheletes shout out? Why don’t gays absolutely insist upon action now? I don’t know. I quit.
October 12th, 2009 at 2:23 amSnobird dont take it personally. when you say something well to people who agree with you it leaves nothing really to say. I tell you what. I am not a minority nor am I gay and I pretty much agree with everything you said. I just didnt see anything to add
October 12th, 2009 at 3:39 amEugene,
Thanks.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:10 amSeriously Eugene,
I’ve been trying to sleep but have visions of a beached whale in a tutu washed up along Pontchartrain beach . . . it’s Rush. Please, put me out of my misery. Rush has no place in the NFL and if he does, I suspect it’s in New Orleans not St. Louis for whatever reason. For all of the above reasons, don’t want to see Rush ownership in the NFL. For entirely different reasons, don’t want to see Rush in NOLa.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:25 amBest of luck Eugene
October 12th, 2009 at 5:51 amWell, McNabb looked very good against a very bad team yesterday.
And I found it a little funny when aaronk showed us that list of QBs in 2003. Yes, McNabb was middle-of-the-road at best that year, but he led his team to the Super Bowl the next year and could quite possibly do it this year.
The other thing of note? The best QB that year was Steve McNair, a black quarterback. May he rest in peace.
October 12th, 2009 at 8:39 amLet’s have Pus Phlegmball suit up and spend some time on the field with an All-Pro team. I would pay lots to watch that.
October 12th, 2009 at 8:59 amIf Rush is approved , he could change the name from Rams to the Nazis or KKK, have his own Brown Shirt Army and at half time have them drill march with swastika flags and have a KKK celebration with a burning cross at midfield. I don’t doubt there are racist owners in the NFL or other major leagues, but they are business men smart enough to keep silent about it. For proof, the NFL needs a “Rooney Rule” just to force owners to interview minority coaches for head coach positions. I think the Detroit Lions got fined $250,000 for ignoring it.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:09 amLimbaugh has ben long accustomed to having one set of rules for himself and another set for everyone else. It seems that carrying that meme over to professional football might be a considerable hurdle for ol’ Rush to hurl his considerable self over.
October 12th, 2009 at 1:32 pmI don’t think you can get it if the player’s union opposes it.
October 12th, 2009 at 1:51 pmAs much as I hate Rush, I actually want to see his bid go forward. Jerry Jones owns the Dallas Cowboys and made his fortune in the oil business. Then opened his new stadium with George W. Bush doing the coin flip. Then our esteemed former dullard in chief was yucking it up with John Madden in a private booth for public viewing consumption. Then there is the whole matter of a team being named the Redskins and the total inaction in light of that the name is racist and it was intended to be so from the start.
Certainly Rush Limbaugh’s bid for the Rams brings plenty of spectacle, but it’s overstated given that these owners are a majority conservative in base and many already stick it to the players without more than a few tidbits of their political motives known. I’d rather see this bid fall apart given that the finances behind it are shaky than people just don’t like Rush. Take him down with facts he can’t twist, then it can die on the vine.
Because sports fans certainly don’t like a whole lot of owners and front office people who do have jobs to begin with, but vocal direct democracies and accountability usually don’t mix until the sh#t hits the fan and the dinner is ruined.
October 12th, 2009 at 3:33 pmWe can always count on blacks and liberals playing the tired race card.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:04 pmConservaTROLL
We can always count on you to be excruciatingly stupid. Just kill yourself you ignorant pile of dogshit
October 12th, 2009 at 8:49 pmIt’s another one of his games. He knows he will never be allowed to buy a team, he will be denied and then he will get go on and on about how he was discriminated against and how it’s a big conspiracy against conservatives etc. Forget the race card, cons these days love playing the “oppressed minority” card. This a calculated move on his part.
October 12th, 2009 at 10:30 pmconservative guy says:
We can always count on blacks and liberals playing the tired race card.
We can always count on conservatives playing the tired victim card when you’re called on your racism… Zzzz…
October 12th, 2009 at 11:25 pmIt’s appalling to see so much hatred and vitriol expressed by so many people on the left, who are of course, the compassionate and understanding among us. I guess it just proves the point that those who run out of arguments resort to insults.
October 15th, 2009 at 6:49 pmLimbaugh living in the transparent NFL would be a living hell for him. Everything he said during his radio show would become daily meat for explanation and discussion in the media. karin germe ameliyatlari
