Lou Dobbs heading to Fox Business?

dobbsThe New York Times’ Brian Stetler reports that Fox News is relishing its position as the leading voice of partisan opposition to Obama. Fox’s senior vice president for programming, Bill Shine, says of the criticism from the White House, “Every time they do it, our ratings go up.” Stetler reports that Fox is trying to bolster its oppositional forces by adding CNN’s Lou Dobbs to its roster:

Certainly, Fox continues to aggressively bolster its on-air talent, most recently with the hiring of John Stossel, the libertarian investigative journalist from ABC News, for its spin-off channel, Fox Business. The business channel is also keen on another administration critic, Lou Dobbs, who met for dinner with Mr. Ailes last month, according to two people with direct knowledge of the meeting.

Dobbs would of course be a natural fit for the Fox News network. He has given inordinate airtime to the “birther” conspiracies and mused about whether President Obama himself is “undocumented.” CNN might be content to part with Dobbs, given that he has become a “publicity nightmare” for the network.

Update Rachel Sklar: "Dobbs, for his part, has shown that he has no problem picking fights; it only makes sense for him to find a home at a network where they do, too."
Update On the New York Times' Media Decoder blog, Stelter adds that a CNN spokesperson refused to comment on whether Dobbs is "seeking to leave CNN."

As an on-the-go mom, it saves time to have the loonies consolidated onto one channel.

    – - Quick, name one person at Fox Business. Dobbs’ll never be heard from again.

  4. Pilotshark says:

WOW >>>>>>> Did not see that coming>>>>>>>.

    NOT

its a prefect match a dieing channel FBN and ranting LOU

  5. A Patriot Acting says:

Lou has had one foot in the toilet for awhile now. He might as well make the jump over to FAUX feet first and hit the flusher once and for all.

FAUX is slowly becoming the elephant burial ground that it has been long striving for. It’s where “journalists” and pundits go to die.

  6. brothejr says:

Great and good riddance to Mr. Dobbs. Maybe now I won’t have to change the channel from CNN at that hour. Plus, if I want the new’s at 7pm est I might actually get some unbiased news from CNN now at that time.

  7. Marie says:

That would be a good thing; I hope he goes to Fox — then I wouldn’t have to see his arrogant face – ever!

  8. Wiz says:

Dobbs must be in trouble if he goes to a network that nobody watches and most people have never heard of.

  9. Pilotshark says:

So didn’t he start the debunk cnn business news? and now going to one that even is worst off.

So he must be feeling the heat from CNN

    In REAL news:

Health insurers to release report projecting rising premiums

Washington – After months of collaboration on President Obama’s attempt to overhaul the nation’s healthcare system, the insurance industry plans to strike out against the effort today with a report warning that the typical family premium could rise over the next decade by $4,000 more than projected under current law.

The critique, coming one day before a key Senate committee vote on the legislation, sparked a sharp response from the Obama administration. It also signaled an end to the fragile detente between two central players in this year’s healthcare drama.

Lou Dobbs would be the perfect commentator for Fox Business Channel. Dobbs has nothing of substance to offer and Fox Business has nobody watching.

  13. jb says:

Fox could give a squat about Truth or Accuracy. Partisan propaganda with large doses of hate and spin to stir up the knuckle dragging victims that are the Republican base. Lou will fit right in. Fox loves to tout their ratings. How many cable packages only offer FOX…I know of a few…places like motel lobbies’ often have fox on as “company policy’? Everybody with half a brain knows that fox sucks.

  14. What the GOP REALLY means ... says:

Since when do my beloved insurance companies need to issue a report to jack up premiums?

  15. EnnuiDivine says:

    Bwa ha ha.

It’s just oh-so-fitting. Maybe he can have a roundtable discussion with Neil “You’re-Damn-Right-I’m-Biased” Cavouto. With special guests Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and John Gibson!

Just as Glenn Beck got considerably more deranged when he left CNN for Fox, I can only imagine the kind of xenophobic fear mongering Dobbs will do at Fox.

Expect a lot of charts “correlating” the rise of Mexican immigration with…

    er..

    Crime?
    Terrorism?
    Leprosy?

Wait. Lou’s already pulled that shite….

  16. conniptionfit says:

Thank god for that! Now maybe we can get some real insurance reform without our own president cutting deals with the enemy and standing in the way….

  17. RUCerious says:

He’s not really very entertaining. Except to the nutjobwhacko crowd. A perfect fit at the LyingBastardNutJobWhacko channel.

  18. EnnuiDivine says:

Also, re: the health insurance premiums…

This can be a positive motivator. If the bill escapes the Finance Committe (which it almost certainly will, even with the insurance companies pulling support from their Congressional playthings), it’ll set up for one hell of a fierce floor fight.

I think this will be the one time Harry stands strong. The guy’s been in Vegas his entire career. He once punched someone who tried offering him a bribe. He’s the damn Senate Majority Leader, facing the toughest re-election campaign of his life. Insurance industry money won’t save him, so he’s going for broke (literally). He’ll insert the public option and lean hard on Durbin to whip up as many votes as possible.

In the end, I say the public-option bill passes 61-39.

  30. bsober says:

After the untimely death of Tim Russert last year a lot of conversation (at least by intelligent people) was about “who will host Meet the Press”? Being a sarcastic smart ass I always said it should be Lou Dobbs. The reaction I received from people was hilarious. Everything from dropped jaws, spitting out beverages, and stopping folks in mid-step. Of course all of this was followed by uproarious laughter. Lou Dobbs IS a f#*king joke and he has found a home with others in the same sad category.

  31. noseeum says:

re: insurance rates… just got my yearly notice… biggest increase ever…

after my divorce, and COBRA being out of my budget, i shopped around and found a new local start up insurance company…

    $153/mo – ‘04 no Rx
    $170/mo – ‘05 ”
    $202 – ‘06 ”
    $277 – ‘07 w/ Rx
    $331 – ‘08 ”
    $388 – ‘09 ”
    $489 – ‘10 ”

being “math phobic” i never understood how to get a percentage…
guessing, it looks like about to 20%…? that’s a hefty increase…

and i should point out it’s pretty basic, PPO 80/50, $1500 deduct.,
    no dental, eyes, etc… $25 co-pay…
    “free” mammograms…!

and a 3% discount if i pay for the whole year in january…!

It strikes me that Rupert Murdoch is becoming the Al Davis of infotainment.

Just as the Raiders have steadily been catering to their primary fan base demographic of gangbangers and thugs by collecting every ethically-challenged castoff they can attract to their roster, so is Faux News becoming ever more wingnutty with each new high-profile acquisition. Glenn Beck was a no-brainer for Faux (in more ways than one) and Lou Dobbs is the next natural fit.

  43. ralph the wonder llama says:

katy, a quick glance tells me that this latest increase is more than 25%.

(The increase is $101, and four times that amount would be over $400.)

Welcome to what wingnuts think is “The Best Healthcare on the Planet™”.

  44. evangenital says:

The only problem that I see would be the major jealousy on the part of Hannity and O’Reilly, who are now be crowded out by Beck, Rove, Caputo, Ingraham and the rest of the white-wing muckety-mucks.

Will those evolution-denying nitwits indulge in a bit of Darwinian “survival of the fittest” stuff?

It won’t really matter to me, because I won’t even waste my time watching FoxNews.

  45. katy says:

    thanks ralph! wow… it’s even worse…
    maybe that’s why i hate the math…

i have no gripes about my health care providers, and not even the insurance provider, till now…

i’ll be making the phone calls shortly…

thing is, i’ve been seeing some new commercials for Health Alliance, and they are getting into the Medicare supplemental game now…
    wonder if it’s related…

  48. deebaser says:

    katy,

In a lot of markets, carriers play games with lowering their premiums to gain market share and rapidly increasing them to catch up. Also, when they want to phase out certain products often they’ll just keep raising the rates astronomically to get you to either leave, or buy a different individual policy.

Although, they could also be re-rating based on the age band you’re in and/or utilization over the past year, but that depends on your state’s regulations.

  49. NinerFan says:

The most dangerous place in our house is getting between me or my wife and the remote control when Lou Dobbs’ big ugly mug comes on the screen.

  50. Dirty Hippie says:

They’ll just park him at Fox Business until Glen loses all his sponsors and martyrs himself for the teabags pinheads. I don’t think he can be as effective spreading xenophhobia on the biz channel.

  51. deebaser says:

  56. shoeless says:

Fox Business News is a really bad idea. Planning your finances in alternate reality would be a disaster. Rich right-wingers love their political propaganda, but they don’t want to be lied to about their money.

  58. Buckie Boy says:

That’d be a good place for him…somewhere where I will never see him again.

  59. Wayne A. Schneider says:

There is an important distinction to be made here. If Dobbs is going to Fox News Channel, then we have to keep an eye on the crap he will fling in the future there. But if he’s going to Fox Business Network, then, TP, you’ve won! You won’t have to report a single thing he ever says on that network (provided it’s never replayed on FNC) because at most thirty thousand people will see or hear it.

So, if Dobbs goes to FNC, then keep watching what he says. But if he goes to FBN, then repeat nothing of what he says that stays there, and there’s less chance that anything he says will get national exposure. (Same goes for Stossel.)

  60. tombaker says:

It’s just to spare old Lou the embarrassment of being kicked off a quasi-legitimate network.

  64. pags2 says:

Dobbs is going to be at FBN because there are too many political commentators on the regular news channel. Don’t assume Dobbs will stay at FBN. If he brings in some good ratings, it is possible he may move to Fox News.

  65. Just Hormiga says:

My goodness~I hope Dobb goes to Fox OuttaBusiness. It’s where he belongs. He’ll fit in well with the other propagandists.

  66. ElBruce says:

Does Lou Dobbs ever actually talk about business anyways? It seems to me that most all of the issues he brings up have nothing to do with business. Except for immigration, which from a pro-business perspective you’d think he’d be on the other side of.

  67. shoeless says:

Didn’t Murdoch lose about $500 million last year? He needs to stop watching Fox Business News.

This is not surprising. Dobbs would fit in with Fox News. After all, wingnuttery, racism, hate, anti-immigration, teabagging, anti-Obama, birtherism, and so on are the highly qualifications for Fox News.

Tracy: “Dave Ramsey know’s quite a bit about personal finances….far more than anyone at CNBC, MSNBC or CNN.”

Sure, you follow Dave Ramsey’s advice and I’ll go with Paul Krugman. I’m sure you know Krugman. He’s the one, in the early 00’s, who said people should be getting fixed rate mortgages and staying away from those adjustables Greenspan was pushing. Ramsey was saying get the adjustables.

You tell me: who was giving better advice on personal finance? Ramsey or Krugman?

There is a saturation point with political commentators and FNN is a good testing ground. There are few viewers and Dobbs will bring in some viewers. The question is how many. There is not enough business news to justify 24/7 broadcasting so Dobbs and Imus make perfect sense. There will be even more personalities brought to FNN. The ratings can only go up.

And I should be surprised ?

I mean Lou Dobbs auditioned on his radio show and began applying to FOX on his TV show shortly after his illegal immigrant hiring practice to tend to his horses was exposed while he flaunted his illegal immigrant position on his broadcasts.

Maybe he can get Liz Cheney as his side kick like morning Joe has Mika. Make it a team effort.

  101. flag@whitehouse.gov says:

Dobbs is looking for more fair and balanced.

A study by the Pew Research Center showed that 40 percent of Fox News stories on Obama in the last six weeks of the campaign were negative. Similarly, 40 percent of Fox News’ stories on Obama’s Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain, were negative. On CNN, by contrast, there was a 22-point disparity in the percentage of negative stories on Obama (39 percent) and McCain (61 percent). The disparity was even greater at MSNBC, according to Pew, where just 14 percent of Obama stories were negative, compared to a whopping 73 percent of McCain stories — a spread of 59 points.”
